Hmmm. Now I want to rename my Dark/Sonic defender to "Negative Vibes"

Since you mentioned the long road to Fulcrum Shift I'd suggest Rad as the secondary, it's very early blooming indeed!
Fire/Rad you can be soloing vast swathes of enemies by level 10 or 12 or so. Plant/Rad would be pretty interesting too. It's basically how and why I created a Fire/Rad, to solo Hazard Zone spawns and survive through debuffs & the rain of Inspirations while you burn them to death. -
Quote:Yes, because it's impossible to post anywhere else in the forums. They've trapped us in a small electronic box, the fiends.Oh, there's no faith there. It's conviction that NC don't have the guts to take the chance and not give us the EU Closed Beta. They folded VERY fast over the I6 issue after it broke in the forums, and I doubt they'd risk that again, especially as they guaranteed us access.
I've commented on this before. IMO, the reason we were given the EU lounge was so that they could shovel us off into a corner and ignore us for the most part. -

Quote:Hurrah for Healing Arrow! (I slotted it there too, more so I could say that I'd a healing arrow rather than it's super powerful)Yup, it has a chance for each person hit, i use it as a health top up on my TA/A defender in poison gas. It's not gonna save you if your taking direct damage but if you take a bit each mob as an enemy or two escapes the trollers/tanks it can be handy just to whack a few hp back on.

Quote:Of course rumours are that with the new Cataclysm expansion that's exactly what WoW is going to be doing, EVE stylee. They are just rumours though.Bringing up WoW here is fair, because the article claims that CoX needs a revamp due to being five years old. WoW is also five years old; why does that rule apply for this game and not for that one? No point was made on CoX's subscriber numbers, or potential for growth. If CoX needs a revamp solely because it's five years old, then every five year old game needs a revamp, WoW included.
For me Going Rogue will really be an indication of how Paragon Studios & the CoH franchise will progress (or even if it will progress). Adding a few new zones and powersets alone for me will indicate a lack of ambition and ideas. -
Actually I think the chap in the article makes quite reasonable points. He's mostly saying "The game has still got a good community, now is the time for an upgrade / change since it'd be probably 2012 before any new game would go live".
The Heroic thing is a little biased though. I feel pretty powerful wading through spawns of 10+ enemies (compared to 1-2 for WoW and WAR and 3 or 4 with CO). But the storylines often aren't and certainly could do with a revamp. And a new engine would allow new possibilities.
That said I'm not certain Paragon Studios are up to developing a full game. A lot of their choices / implementations have been fairly tame and safe, especially in recent issues. Sometimes it feels like they're going through the wishlist from years ago rather than thinking of their own new smart ideas to implement. Even "Going Rogue" is hardly a new and original idea for them, people have been requesting it since Villains came out. -
Quote:But you'll also have access to the Closed Beta boards and can Rage at any imbalances or downward power readjustments that might happen (even if they make sense).Speaking as a battle-scarred software developer, I don't really think that's true (there's always a limited capacity to fix bugs before release) but even if it was true, I don't get it. When I go to eat dinner at a restaurant I don't particularly want to help prep the kitchen to make sure I get good food.
Don't get me wrong: I appreciate that a lot of people want to get in on the closed beta tests (if nothing else it helps detect any obvious load or performance issues), I just don't understand them. -

Quote:Given the Email they sent out on 1/10/09 contains this :I'm attending HeroCon, but this will not make me eligible for the GR closed beta because I'm not a US Citizen. I suspect this has to do with enforcing the NDA so...
Will the EU community be able to joing the GR CB? Ever?

Quote:Me too, asterisks indicate that it's got new info in it, like an *OMG, look at this new stuff*I clicked on this thread hoping for a breaking Going Rogue update (it has asterisks!). I am sadly disappointed.
I'm really looking forward to hearing more details on GR.
I came rushing in all excited to be rapidly deflated to find just another "So when" type post.

Quote:Yes. Why on earth would my Fire/Rad/Stone controller want to be in melee range using Fissure, Seismic Smash and Air Superiority? Clearly that'd be a stupid way to play him...Quote:
3)For the blasters and trollers trying to be like scrappers, its called thinking outside the box hun, you should try it. -
Quote:In fairness Vanessa looks like she's just got off a bus named Priscilla and is about to launch into a lip-synch and dance routine.I'd like Vanessa more if she didn't have the worst case of stag hair this side of an actual stag and an outfit that looks like she was in a high-speed collision with a clothes delivery truck and walked out of the incident like that. Then again, crazy and absurd never does it for me.

Quote:Well no, it takes down the market across all the servers, but the login and game servers over here can stay running. It often happened before when the maintence times over here didn't match the US ones (our servers are indeed in Germany), you could play the game but not access the Market or the Mission Architect. They did actually split the servers East/West coast on one occasion for maint, can't remember why, may have been the name purge, but anything that affects the market has to take all of them down including the European servers which are physically in Germany.
I've no idea why they changed ours to match the US times either. Not a huge difference to me usually (it happens around lunchtime over here now). Still, staggering it occasionally would show a less US-centric approach which might generate a fair bit of good will. Even just occasionally move them forward or back a few hours. -
Quote:Hmmm. War Mace/Elec would be an interesting combo actually. A less annoyingly slow Stone/Elec.Fire/Inv is sturdy. Good damage and survivability.
Check out War Mace/* also. It has good mitigation as an offensive set and is a heck of alot of fun.
*boink* *falldown* *boink* *stun* -

Didn't it go like this :
Synapse: Let's just bug out and call it even, OK? What are we talking about this for?
Manticore: I say we take off and nuke the entire site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.
Synapse: ******' A...
Statesman: Ho-ho-hold on, hold on one second. This portal has a substantial dollar value attached to it.
Manticore: They can *bill* me. -
Quote:I play all 3 (Storm and Rad as controllers, Dark as a MM and a Defender), I've given you plenty of examples. I can't help you any more. Dark would add much more support than Storm does to pets, plus in many cases give you ranged stacking stuns (and still equalling Storms big debuff). Rad / Dark is closer but Fluffy + you would be better at keeping things like Imps alive, add more constant ranged control (which 4 Controller sets can stack)Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what here is actually more powerful than a controller with storm or rad and I'm just not seeing it.
Of course I am of the opinion that Controllers should never have gotten Rad or Kin either, they should have stayed Defender only sets. They're too capable of creating edge cases like the GM soloers and the best farmers in the game. I'd be worried that Dark would cause the same sort of edge cases when combined with some control sets.
Quote:Also, all these arguments that "This powerset should be unique to one AT blueside" will be irrelevant when Going Rogue comes and corruptors and masterminds can swap sides (or in the case of scrappers, brutes and stalkers).
(and yes, sorry. I misquoted you on the EMP doing a stun thing. Soz)
Quote:When you get them is pretty irrelevant, because if you level your character up, you'll be using them primarily in your 40s and at 50. It's not as if HT is some kind of awesome leveling tool.
Would I refuse to roll a Dark if it went to Controllers? Nope. I'd be all over it like a rash on someone who slept with Paris Hilton. But I would think Castle has lost it for allowing it
I've a feeling instead that Domis will get Dark Control & Dark Assault and that Dark Control will be proliferated to Controllers as well (along with maybe a renamed Poison and / or Traps at some point). That way things like Fearsome Stare can be copied across, along with the other controlling Dark Power animations. I've no idea if Fluffy would be though, I'd say a new Tier 9 would be made. -
Quote:Actually I believe Dark MMs show exactly why giving Controllers Dark Miasma would be a bad idea. Dark is easily the most powerful secondary MM set for normal PvE play. A Dark Servant + Fire Imps in the middle of a spawn would be insane. As would the amount of AOE Fear and -ToHit a Illusion/Dark could stack (somewhere up to 48%, before Fluffy and Darkest Night are even used).Fear's a soft control, hence mobs attacking when subjected to it.
Howling Twilight is on such a long cooldown it's equivalent to a nuke. What else has a long cooldown? EM Pulse. EM Pulse has a longer cooldown, but has a higher magnitude hold that lasts 50% longer than HT's stun. What exactly would HT do that EM pulse doesn't already?
And what exactly would dark fluffies do for controllers that they don't already do for masterminds?
EMP does a hold, not a stun. Yes it is more powerful. Which probably explains why you've to wait until level 38 to get it, compared to level 10 for Howling Twilight. And 180 seconds is 60% of the recharge of EMP. Plus EMP & EMP Arrow have a -Recovery built into them.
I love Dark Miasma, it's my favourite debuff set in the game. So much so that I really think it should stay unique to Defenders Blueside, it's that good. -
Quote:Erm, no. Dark Miasma is far better at hard control than Storm. A Cone Mez which affects Lieuts (and can also affect bosses), an auto-hit aoe stun and a hold. Plus a pet with a built-in hold and an aoe immob. The problem I'm having with your assertion that particular powersets should be unique to one AT is...none of them are unique to one AT. Two of them (EM, Dark Miasma) are available to three of four ATs that use that particular kind of powerset. The other one (Super Strength) is available to two of four ATs.
Additionally, Dark Miasma is not control heavy, certainly not moreso than Storm Summoning, which controllers already have.
Storm has an AOE stun (which only affects minions) and an erratic stunning pseudopet (whioch often doesn't go down well on teams). Other than that it's just soft control via knockback, which doesn't work nearly as well.
Mind you Trick Arrow has tonnes of Control. But it's not quite the debuff monster that Dark is.
Fearsome Stare & Howling Twilight would be sick on Controllers. As would another pet who heals.
I suspect either a cut-down version of Dark Miasma might be replicated across or Traps will be instead. -
Quote:My Claws/Elec Brute is a blast. Spin is brilliant AOE at level 6, plus you get Lightning Field to go with it. Building Fury, with Claws nice quick animations & recharges, is pretty trivial as well. Elec Aura is nice since you can basically skip the Fitness Pool and it has fewer holes than Fiery Aura (at the expense of less damage and less healing) and no End woes (eventually). I had to slot Stamina in in the 20s, but it's getting dropped for Boxing, Tough and Follow-Up in a level 36 or 37 respec. Annoying but needed to be done. With the double xp weekend on the horizon, I'm getting myself together to start a new toon. I'm not sure what will be up my alley and am not set on AT or hero/villain. I want to be a strong AoEer, capable of just decimating spawns, but when the 2x xp is over, I want to be able to solo effectively as well. Having enough survivability to take on large mobs is essential to me. Also early on, prefferably pre 10, I want to be a decent AoEer, moving up to a strong AoEer later. I don't want to start out with nothing and then suddenly become AoE godlyness like super strength. So what should I be looking out for?
I hear fire/kin is still a popular combo. Scrappers have elec and fire melee/aura and I can see a good pairing with them and spines. Claws used to be competing with spines for AoE back when I last played and with brutes having it now I can see the potential in that. I heard something about a nerf to dwarf form mire, what went on with that and are Warshades still god like bringers of doom?
All help is appretiated!
