em pulse does -regen on a troller version iirc?
Not sure about corrs...
[/ QUOTE ]
Same on Corrupters, its the same power with different AT modifiers.
The -regen is only 15 seconds though if I remember rightly. Use Lingering Rad instead vs AVs. -
Anyone got sample builds for their Thugs/Traps?
I'm really enjoying him, just about to hit the teens and start getting the really fun powers. Trying a Staminaless build (bolstered by IOs hopefully) and I have taken Dual Wield and Empty Clips. I play an attackless Necro MM and fancy a bit of a change.
Are Seeker Drones as pants as they seem from checking the figures? The Accuracy Debuff is tiny. The -Damage is alright but I reckon I'll skip it.
*Edit : Heres a sample SO build from SuckerPunches online builder:

Hi folks, I've just made the jump from Defiant to Union with a new Thugs and Traps MM, Johnny Moronic, and was wondering if you'd space in the VG for him? Soloing is all well and good but I'm entering my teens now and teamage would be great.
Usually on in the evenings after 9ish for a few hours. My Global is @carnifax
Cheers,

I've an Earth/Kin which works extremely well - Siphon Speed lets me cycle the controlly stuff in the primary very fast, you never want for an AOE control power. It knocks the socks off my Ice/Rad for team controlling in a lot of situations (basically because I've more viable alternatives to knock down powers if I end up teamed with someone who feels the urge to throw everything all over the place).
I teamed with an Earth/Storm a fair bit too, I have to say, I think I liked that better. Loads and loads of cool powers, lots of flashy stuff (noone is going to miss you that's for sure!) although very bloody noisy. Lightning Flash stacks nicely with Stompy Foot too (sorry, real power names escape me, I've been referring to them by stupid names for too long, the AOE stun from each set). Stone Cages with Freezing Rain or Quick Sand, Hurricane's just great.
[/ QUOTE ]
Staligmites & Thunderclap?
Tornado, Lightning Storm & Stone Cages looks like a fun combo too. With maybe Gasses theres too for the laugh.
Or Freezing Rain, Earthquake, Snow Storm and Quicksand. Mmmmm. -
[ QUOTE ]
I am interested to know why you think that SpecTerror/SnowS/Freezing Rain are slotted to their detriment?
[/ QUOTE ]
Because Spectral Terror and snow Storm don't need 6 slots at all. So they're slotted to the detriment of other powers.
[ QUOTE ]
(A) Pacing of the Turtle - Range/Slow: Level 45
(25) Pacing of the Turtle - Accuracy/Slow: Level 42
(27) Pacing of the Turtle - Damage/Slow: Level 33
(27) Pacing of the Turtle - Accuracy/Endurance: Level 42
(46) Pacing of the Turtle - Chance of -Recharge: Level 50
[/ QUOTE ]
It doesn't benefit from Acc or Damage. The range has a limited use too. So basically in terms of Enhancements you've 4 slots there which give only about a 60-70% bonus compared to Slow SOs. Also Slows only affect Run speed, not recharge. Which isn't that great. All for a 6.25% bonus to Accuracy which would be equalled by putting a Defense Debuff SO or IO in Freezing Rain. Not sure why you've the 5th slot in there either. 2.75% reduction in Hold times? Makes no sense to me.
[ QUOTE ]
Level 26: Spectral Terror
(A) Glimpse of the Abyss - Accuracy/Recharge: Level 43
(29) Glimpse of the Abyss - Endurance/Fear: Level 41
(29) Glimpse of the Abyss - Accuracy/Endurance: Level 42
(31) Glimpse of the Abyss - Fear/Range: Level 41
(31) Glimpse of the Abyss - Accuracy/Fear/Recharge: Level 30
(31) Glimpse of the Abyss - Chance of Damage(Psionic): Level 49
[/ QUOTE ]
This is a bit better, all the Enhancements at least work well in the power. But it doesn't need 6 slots. I'd drop one of them and put it somewhere more useful (like Steamy Mist which is underslotted).
Not sure why you've Recharges in Steamy mist. My IO slotting would be for Damage Resist, not Defense as its defense is pretty poor. I'd go with Imprevium Armour 4 slotted with End/Res, End/Rech/Res, +Mez Resist, Rech/Res and if I could squeeze em in then Kismet Increased ToHit (6%) and Luck of the Gambler Increased Recharge Speed.
I'd much prefer to use the Snow Storm and Spectral Slots there.

Freezing Rain
(A) Pacing of the Turtle - Range/Slow: Level 42
(21) Pacing of the Turtle - Accuracy/Slow: Level 42
(21) Pacing of the Turtle - Damage/Slow: Level 46
(25) Pacing of the Turtle - Endurance/Recharge/Slow: Level 40
(45) Pacing of the Turtle - Chance of -Recharge: Level 50
(46) Damage Increase IO: Level 40
[/ QUOTE ]
FRs damage is pants first off. So the Damage IO is a waste. Freezing Rain does 30% Defense Debuff, so Defense Debuff IOs will add an extra 6%ish to the Defense Debuff of anyone in it which helps you, your team plus all your pets. I'm not sure Set Bonuses extend to PAs, Spectral Terror or Lightning Storm. But the enemy defense being lower will. So one slotted Defense Debuff here is as good as the Accuracy Set bonuses you are trying to achieve. Better in fact as they help your teammates too.
Again with this Set Acc, Damage and Range are useless or not much use really. Slow ain't the strongest for it either really as again it just affects Run Speed, and each Set IO you have there is providing just 25% (as oppose to about 40% for the equivelent Slow non-set IO).
3 recharge and Defense Debuffs would be better than the Accuracy Set bonus you're getting. Maybe 3 recharge, 1 defense Debuff, 1 slow and 1 Posi's Blast %Damage Proc.
In O2 Boost I'd slot with Miracle IOs. A pair of which (Heal & Heal/End) will give you a 2.5% Recovery Bonus.
Ditto with your Pets not sure why you went with Sovergien Right. Mez Resistance is pants for a controller really, it only lowers the time affected. You'll still be mezzed. I went with pairs of Commanding Presense & Blood Mandate, Acc/Dam and Acc/Dam/End each giving 1.5% recovery apiece or 6% altogether.
With Spectral Wounds I'd replace the Accuracy IOs with Thunderstrikes, Acc/Dam & Acc/Dam/Recharge and replace one of the Devestations with the Chance to Hold version, probably the Dam/End. You'll still have the Dev set bonus plus another 2.5% Recovery Bonus. And one in 5 Spectral Wounds will hold its target.
You don't need 2 Invises either and they shouldn't be slotted for Defense as the return is dreadful. Hurricane is far, far more effective as a Defensive Power. Group Invis has a 1.87% Defense Bonus, Superior 2.25%. Hurricane does a 30% Accuracy Debuff to foes. Haste & Hurricane are far better options IMO. Haste gives you more Recharge (far more than Set Bonuses ever will) and Hurricane, even unslotted for Acc Debuff (stick End in it), is way better than Superior & Group combined. -
Earth/Storm sounds like a lot of fun (Grav/Storm is pretty common).
Grav/TA is good fun too but not tonnes of hard control like you want. -
A little too focused on Set bonuses for my tastes. Spectral Terror, Freezing Rain and Snow Storm are Set slotted at the determent to their effectiveness or the effectiveness of other powers.
Freezing Rain and PAs should have maxed recharge. PAs work well with maxed damage too. Snow Storm and Spectral Terror don't need 6 slots. Your accuracy is too high for my tastes, just slap some Defense Debuffs in Freezing Rain. Flash can be maxed with 4 slots of the various Acc/Recharge/Hold.
Tornado doesn't need Accuracy at all. I just go with 2 stuns or some damage or defense debuff depending on what you want it for.
Super invis, group and steamy seems overkill to me. Replace one with Hurricane, its my second fav power in Storm. Slot with -Acc. I find it works great with TP.
+100% regen and no +recovery? Ill/Storm is very End heavy. -
Knightly has a good point with AM too, Illusion/Storm is bloody tiring
And Rad works as well as Dark with PAs since they're both Debuff sets. -
Hiya, welcome to the boards.
Scrapper isn't the best choice anyway due to the mess Illusion/storm makes, the poor scrappers tend to be running about after you.
I always liked teaming with a Dark/Dark defender, they have an AOE immob for holding things in your Freezing Rain and setting up Containment. And FR & Tar Patch is an evil combo. And they have a decent heal which works well with all the -defense storm does.
Plus nothing will hit you through Darkest Night and Hurricane.
I do love Dark Miasma though so I'm biased. -

sigh....
Never said it annyoed me, nor did i say anyone was wrong for making a fire kin.....
what i said wasa someone please come up with a new idea for a farm toon as fire kins are getting boring...
im not attacking anyone for having fire kins, so theres no real need to jump on the defensive.
I never said i disagreed with farming, powerlevelling or anything else.
Maybe I should have written my OP like this instead so as to avoid upsetting people who obviously took offense...
Hey Arent fire kins AwesomeI love mine sooo much i dont play anything else now. But wouldnt it be great if someoone thought of a new build to farm with so i could choose between two farmers when i PL everyone..
Hope thats better
[/ QUOTE ]
So how does what other people play affect how you play at all? I'm confused here.
As Death Badger says you can farm happily with a lot of builds. It mightn't be quite as quick but it works.
I use Carni for earning Inf myself, just by focusing on Magical Groups. Don't want to get into a willy waving contest about who's more Uber but she does fine and earns at a nice rate. Since its mostly solo she gets a lot of Recipe Drops too which tend to go for 90k a pop in the stores. Plus all that nice Magical Salvage. -
Sorry, I'm being a little thick here.
Is it that :
Caging Powers are prohibited or
that you can have one cager as long as his teamy doesn't have it too or
that you can have one cager and a teamie who doesn't have Bubbles, Sonics, Dark Mez or Grav at all, regardless if they have the cage power or not? -
[ QUOTE ]
Just my 2c worth, I have been on a few PuGs with my stormie recently and both times I have been told not to use
a) freezing rain, because it makes the odd thing run.
b) snow storm, because people can't see what they are doing and it causes them lag
c) lightening storm, due to the knock back
d) Huricane, it moves mobs and people can't see whats happening.
e) Turn of steamy mist due to gfx lag.
Now I have been playing a storm defender for over 2 years, so I'm pretty good at knowing when to use KB and rain etc. But these lot didn't even give a chance, after the 1st of each one its "STOP RAIN" or "STOP KNOCK BACK N00B"
Thus basically turning me into a low dmg elec blaster with a heal.
Really makes me wonder why I do anything but solo on one of my scrappers......
[/ QUOTE ]
They're idiots, ignore them.
Hurricaning into the centre of a spawn and scattering is bad but someone telling you to drop Steamy Mist or Snow Storm due to GFX needs a new PC, its not your problem.
Snow Storms gotten better too, used to be truely awful.
Anyone telling you not to Freezing Rain is a plank too. I've had Tanks tell me the same thing, I just leave the team. Snow Storm & FR is a great combo.

Phantasm beating the snot out of somebody? Unthinkable!
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, I'll rephrase that...
"I love TPing around the battlefield with Hurricane on while my Pantsasm acts like a big n00b NRG blaster and knocks everything out of my debuffs."
It's like having Fusionette with you all the time
I end up playing Mob Tennis with him a lot. -
[ QUOTE ]
Thanks to the insightful labeling abilities of the devs, Kinetics Repel (the power) isnt repel (the effect). Neither are repulsion field of power mastery and forcefield powerset. All the three actually cause knockdown/knockback instead of repel. Examples of real repel powers are telekinesis and force bubble. Iirc singularity also does small repel but Im not sure. Knockback can still be useful, but its not nearly as effective.
The range of bodyguard mode is roughly the same as leadership toggles like assault and tactics.
[/ QUOTE ]
Singy does Knockback. He basically has the Kinetics "Repel" power without the Stamina drain. -
[ QUOTE ]
one toon i have very much enjoyed recently is an illusion/storm controller. Hell of alot of fun in teams or solo, very powerful, and can take some really good IO sets boosting +50%acc on all your powers, not a lot misses
Will add my support to Katana (very quick animation times), Martial Arts though i found the attack chain slower than Katana, but I am not enjoying broadsword/invul (lvl 34atm) as it feels like a slow and painful drag.
At the end of the day everyone is different so it wont matter what AT or powers you go for as long as you can have some fun, and altitis isnt that bad
[/ QUOTE ]
Agree with Diddy, Illusion/Storm: pure chaos control, so much fun and decent damage. I love TPing around the battlefield with Hurricane on while my army of pets scare and beat the snot out of the enemies. -
[ QUOTE ]
Thanks to the few that turned up, was a total loss as we didn't have anywhere near enough people.
[/ QUOTE ]
Soz MC, colicky baby had my undivided attention. I would have loved to try this. -
[ QUOTE ]
It certainly does, it's like painting a target around someone and saying 'kill this person first'. Even setting a bind to say that such a person is the anchor, please kill this person last' doesn't help.
What I have found is that if you press tab, the first person to come up in a mob is usually the same for everyone, the game appears to have a set 'order', so pressing tab a few times can soemtimes stop the anchor from dying immediately.
There's a bit of confusion about anchors IMO, do you put it on the boss to reduce his/her damage potential, knowing that the boss will probably be the first to go down, or do you put it on a minion, knowing they might go down easily? perhaps an Lt instead?
[/ QUOTE ]
I always go for Lieuts personally, and the tip on tabbing through a few mobs to pick your target is a great one. Any bosses etc should still be in the AOE and thus debuffed.
Given how hectic battle usually is I don't mind the anchor falling, I find its my responsibilty to pick a decent choice as anchor and thus get around the issues with people tabbing & clobbering the first target.
My pet hate when playing my Dark Defender is people who scatter the group. Especially any Gale & Hurricane users who just run into the middle and scatter to the four winds. -
[ QUOTE ]
Regarding Singy - So rather 6 slot him with the 1x Acc 3x Dmg 1x Hold? I agree that he doesn't get hit that often with my bubbles on him so I rarely need to recast him when the power is recharged.
Crushing Field - Have I got too much in there? Will Okton's 3 slots be a better idea? Oh and Damage PROCs???
GDF - Carnifax you refer to Acc/Rech/Hold set IOs, how would I go about it? Slot one of each IO type set that gives that specific enhancement?
Epics - I've not really made up my mind yet, I've got the dispersion bubble for some mitigation so not too sure if I really need another shield? I do need a self heal though since I've got nothing other than Inspirations which don't always help when you are out of greensI'd like to get another damage power to add a bit more to the attacks. Any advice is greatly appreciated
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, cherry-pick them from the sets since you don't care too much about bonuses. Try and get them at as high a level as you can but even with Paralytic capping out at 30 it may be worthwhile compared to SOs.
Ditto with Wormhole although I fitted a Stun/Range set IO or two in there too as Range is handy, you can be further away from the mobs and in cover when you trigger it.
As for Crushing Field it will take up to 3 Damage Procs from various Immob, Slow and Targetted AOE Damge. I've the three damage procs slotted plus 2 Acc/End set IOs to make it spammable and on teams I spam it in between other attacks. I'm even considering another slot to squeeze a -Recharge PROC in there too.
With Epics Crushing Field & Fireball is still a nice combo and gives you some AOE damage. Don't know how much of the rest of Fire will be of use to you though. -
Persnally I go with 1 Acc, 3 damage, 2 hold on Singy. He doesn't die that much really and you're FF so he should be well tough.
Crushing Field works well with Damage PROCs since it has a huge AOE and is quick to recharge. Otherwise you don't really need to 6 slot it, take one Immob out and throw it into GDF as a Hold Duration or Recharge.
Your AOE mezzes do really, really well out of IOs, you can max Acc, Recharge & Mez (hold or stun) with them. Its well worthwhile, especially in GDF. Slot with the four Acc/Recharge/Hold set IOs and you're up around 75% apiece with just 4 slots. Finish with a recharge or Acc/Recharge and you're laughing. -
I'll try to make it if I can with Quant (Grav/TA with Amazing Flying Pet) or Mal (Fire/Rad), whichever would suit better.
I reserve the right not to show due to Tiny Dictator though -
Following a comment by Extremus where it transpires I have to fight the PvPers for posting on this forum I got to thinking about respeccing my Grav/TA to a PvP(ish) build.
I profess my ignorance and invite you to rip this build apart. Note I'm only level 44 and I've tried to include the IOs I have currently anyway slotted into other powers. I've kept Accuracy up around 70%ish for most of my attacks.

@Carni: If you've posted here you agree to fight everyone else who posted on the Test server, it's an unwritten rule!

Hmmm. Wouldn't mind trying out my Grav/TA on Arena sometime for the laugh. Might try and make one of the PvP Mondays.
I'll be dogfood though, totally PvE, AOE, staminaless build and only level 43.
Actually hang on, I could always respec the Test version to something a bit more suitable. Interesting... -

I thought EM pulse drained end like a nuke anyway? Either way it was to use in the following formula:
tactics+assault+aim then EM Pulse, then Nova
So I won't have end afterwards - but was just curious to see how it'd fit in my excessive destruction method - and just cos I've never had a rad this high

Thats probably overkill. You may be better alternating between Nuke on one spawn, EMP on the second.
EMP doesn't drain all your End, it stops you Recovering it for a few seconds (about 10-15 I think). So you can follow up with moves and be safe as they're gonna be Held for a bit.
