I have a fire/kin at 40+ who I like playing (non-farmer), and a pair of mind/rad at 20+ and a pair of grav/rad at 14... I wanted to make a pair of ???/Rad to play for all out damage, because its a duo it plays quite differently from a solo character so I'd prefer to steer clear from fire... but with more character slots...
Or I could play on Union, but then I have no resources.
I'll have to see.
[/ QUOTE ]
So why the "No pets" stipulation? Illusion does better damage than Grav once you factor in the PAs & Phanty. -
[ QUOTE ]
Crumbs! And they just effect the player right or all the pets?
[/ QUOTE ]
Just pets. They're the uniques in the pet sets (+10% resist is one and +5% defense the other afaik).
Tough to get on villain-side though, never any for sale. -
I wouldn't leave Acid Mortar until level 28 personally. Get ASAP for my money, its a dead handy power. Great debuffs, and can pull and alpha for you if you drop it close enough to an unsuspecting mob.
Plus it can take the -resist Achilles Heel PROC.
Seekers I love too, as an alpha absorber & opener (always summon them right into the group). Great when you see a tough enemy, lay a load of traps at a corner, stay around the corner and summon them in the middle of the group to annoy the enemy and coax them to come running into your evil trap patch. -
The pet +Defense & +Resistance IOs?
Far as I know yes, once they're slotted in a pet power they're active. The gang doesn't need to be out.
And yes, Gangwar does accept them. -
Yep, Fire thanks to contained Hotfeet, then probably Mind and then Gravity.
-
The top tier power is Volatic Sentinel?
Urrgh. -

I was kind of replying to both you and Standoff. Should really have quoted both and explained myself better.
It should be:
powexec_name
not powerexec_name as Standoff mentioned.
Edit:
Scarlet, I'm not all that up on where the quotation marks go, I usually take a few trial and error attempts it until it works.

You're 100% right Biscuits...
Damn, that means I surrendered for no reason.

i'm loving my Ilu/storm, though the sound of wind blowing, is now stuck on a loop in my head :P
Ilu was a bit meh, till 18 but now it's great fun droping my freazing rain and calling my phantom army straight into a large group. Realy cant wait to get my real pet
Controlers realy are a nice ranged class, we dont do huge numbers, but if a mob is held we sudenly do alot more damage and we come in so many fun combos with flash effects...
[/ QUOTE ]
Illusion/Storm was my first controller too. Bit messy but very effective. I've heard people say "It's a bit tricky, not really suitable for first-timers" but I don't believe that really. Once you learn not to Gale every mob away from the tank you're good.
In terms of an easy-to-get-in-to close combat controller with a bit of healing I'd pick Fire/Rad though. Huge AOE damage in Hot Feet and Fire Cages from the off, a great, early AOE mez in Flashfire and defensive debuffs (Radiation Infection makes things miss you more often), heals and buffs (Accelerated Metabolism) in the Rad secondary. -

Er..
Isn't it powexec_name?

You're a week behind Standoff

To my shame, I used to take the Mickey out of the "weirdo's with the dice" at school.
I'm better now, though... And am a quick learner!

And oddly I don't really get online roleplaying, it seems way too restrictive to me to be shoehorning it into a game (and the game aspect distracts me too much).

Voice comms are useless in an RP environment, Londoner. Kind of immersion breaking when the cute Swedish blonde you're chatting to has the voice of a brickie from Glasgow.
[/ QUOTE ]
Really? What did ye used to do back in the PnP days?
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't.CoH is my first RPing experience!
I'd imagine, though, that generally people didn't switch genders... It's a bit immersion breaking afterall!

Really? I'd have sworn you'd have been an old skool PnPer FFM.
It was alright for the characters but as the GM/DM there was no choice sometimes but to aim vaguely for an accent and go for it (with thoughts of "Why did I make the chief antagonist a former 18th century East London prostitute turned vampire") -

Your Bruiser should be able to take it, but it'd only fire with Handclap AFAIK.
[/ QUOTE ]
So it should be firing off pretty often then
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh and maybe Hurl Boulder too (joy!) -
Explosive Strike is a Knockback set. Can Thugs take Knockback sets? I know they can do knockdown with some attacks but they mustn't be able to slot with knockback sets.

Erm....
Hey, look over there. Summer Glau in a bikini looking for someone to put suntan lotion on her back.

(yep, that last one looks right to me. I lose on penalties*)

You seem to be missing command deliminators in a lot of the chain binds.
EG :
/macro squid say SQUID FORM! powerexc_name Bright Nova
should be :
/macro squid say "SQUID FORM!"$$powerexc_name Bright Nova
or similiar.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've never seen powerexc_name used before - I'd go for:
/macro squid say "SQUID FORM!"$$powerexec_name Bright Nova"
...with a closing quote too.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bah. Damn you standoff, you win this round
(although you've got an extra quote in there somewhere so lets call it a score draw)
/macro squid say "SQUID FORM!"$$powerexec_name "Bright Nova"
? -

Ahh I see.
It makes sense then.
It's been suggested to me, but perhaps slotting in a Stealth IO in CJ and SJ will help with elusiveness also? I'm intending to place some on my Dark/Elec when the time comes.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aren't Stealth IOs unique?
Far as I knew you could only have one +stealth IO in a build (you can't even have a Fly one and a Run one in one build) -

Actually if you use Achilles Heel chance for res debuff in rad attacks you can debuff both defence and res. And the res debuff is much longer lasting than sonic attacks, ideal for AVs and the like.
[/ QUOTE ]
But it only crops up 20% of the time remember, so realistically its only worth it if the debuff lasts 5 times longer than the equivelent Sonic attack (and is also worth a slot plus however much inf they cost a pop).
Out of interest how long is the debuff? I have it in Acid Mortar myself but amn't sure how long it sticks about.
My Dark/Sonics defender is great vs AVs and for my money Dark is more fun to play than Rad. A Sonic/Dark Corrupter would be a lot of fun (and you can the -regen & -resist combo of Twilight Grasp + Howling Twilight + Tar Patch earlier than the Lingering Rad + Enervating Field combo). -
[ QUOTE ]
Forced Feedback is only up for 5 seconds and has a 10 second cooldown though. And it cannot stack.
So even if you could have FF up all the time somehow it'd still only be up 50% of the time due to the cooldown. And you'd need to have it on constantly. Not sure how you'd manage that once it gets fixed to being a 10% chance. Plus you have it in Singy, which as far as I know only buffs you when Singy is summoned, after that it boosts Singy once it PROCs due to his attacks.
Wormhole doesn't recharge quickly enough to give you anywhere near a perma PROC either. I'd say you'd get more benefit putting it in Lift instead since thats spammable. (Wormholes small AOE means you rarely get more than 4/5 targets at once unless you've somehow clustered them).
*Edit : Actually after looking over the sets the best place to put FF Procs for my money would be Ripper & Thorn Barrage, followed by Lift and then Wormhole and finally Singy (if you are talking purely towards getting FF up as much as possible. Personally I'd go Ripper & Thorn Barrage for yourself and Singy just to make him much more effective).
With the Damage PROCs in Fling Thorns I'd say Thorntrops might be a better place for them, coupled with 3 in Crushing Field (or 4 if you also want the -Recharge one in there).
Why do you have Damage PROCs in Fling Thorns rather than Damage IOs? Surely the damage enhancements do more damage than a 20% chance of doing minor NRG and/or Neg damage?
[/ QUOTE ]
Run out of editing time but I just compared Fling Thorns with PROCs vs Fling Thorns with 2 additional Damage IOs.
Fling Thorns does on average 46.97 damage each time its fired ( =(5*3.61*0.80) + 32.53). A PROC at 50 does 14.2 (71 *0.20).
So one Damage IO giving a 40% boost would add 18.9 damage to Fling Thorns, a second would give 14.09 (due to ED since it caps at around 95%). So the two Damage IOs give around 33 extra damage on average, the two PROCs 28.4. So the Damage IOs are more effective really, especially considering costs of the IOs. -
[ QUOTE ]
That's not the same. /ice and /fire are just no options.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think most people would understand he meant Ice = Cold and Fire = Thermal.
Obviously not all though. -

The command /selectpetname exists and will work. However you'll need to push the button twice.
I currently use /bind numpad1 "petselect 0$$powexecname Alkaloid" on my Necro/Poison MM to select and heal a pet. Have to hit the button twice though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Isn't this because commands are actually parsed backwards?
Try switching the two commands here Master Z and see if that helps (I've a similiar sort of bind for selecting and igniting Oil Slick). I think that fixes the double-click issue.
Like Maels I prefer to select Henchies by name rather than number when issuing commands. Nice thing about this is that its a partial select. I stick ' and . at the end of my petnames which lets me assign them to offensive and defensive groups and issue commands per group. So v maps to the macro
petcom_name "'" Attack Aggressive
and my Enforcers and Brute have the ' at the end of their names (they've all got l33t names anyway so it looks in place too). So those 3 Attack Aggressively.
I just use the number pad keys to select by number for each pet (including my traps) and numpad 0 to heal with Aid Other. -

Hypothetically i think you could. The toggle works on Phantom Army doesnt it? Would have thought the carrion vines work the same way, but I'm probably wrong!
[/ QUOTE ]
Thats what I was thinking too. Only problem might be that each vine isn't around for too long so it mightn't be worthwhile.
Did Audrey benefit from the same AI improvements as Jack and Mr Poo or does she prefer to stick to ranged? -

The storm debuffs will make them beat each other up less effectively...
[/ QUOTE ]
Indeed. Omit Snow Storm and its just the -recharge from FR though, countered by the -defense and -resist it does.
Personally I reckon I'll go Sonics, because I've got a Stormie already (but its so much fun)
Hmmm. Can the Carrion Creepers which sprout up take that AOE Sonic aura debuff thingie? (Disruption Field)
