  1. Offline SG/VG invites, and promotions - possibly via "Gleemail"?

Replace the IO Set Bonus "__% Debt Protection" with something else. Anything other than what it is now = WORTHLESS.
  2. What happened to the - 'right click for info/details' - functionality?

Am I missing something here, Because I previously used that a lot, now it seems to be gone... and that sucks.

It also seems to lack the ability to mouse-wheel scroll up & down thru the upper left panel = the tiny arrows STILL suck!

The lines/grab points for the adjustable windows are easy to miss and seem tiny as well.

FWIW, Some of the problems I'm having with this New UI - Can be 'worked around' - using a combination of the directional keys and the mouse. But this requires swapping back and forth from the mouse and keyboard in a manner that's... Far (from Market)-Vergnügen.
  3. Yep, this was my first thought when I saw that story in the news yesterday!
  4. Well, I'm having a similar issue Anti-Aliasing now looks borked on my PC even without Ambient Occlusion on, I have a couple plausible ideas why - But, I really just want to get my pre-I17 graphics back.

I have an old card = a 6800 GT, with an OLD driver. And, despite what Nvidia always claims, their "new drivers" - that are allegedly supposed to work my card, usually don't = based on my past experience.

The driver I'm running now is old but the last time I tried to update it - NONE of the newer Drivers, from the (at that point "current" driver) nor any of the other recommended "stable" drivers worked. So I ran it back to what I'm using now and haven't had any trouble since... Suffice it to say "updating to the newest driver" is something I'm REALLY leery about doing.

I haven't played any "new" games in a very long time - due to my now ancient system (I couldn't get past the character gen. screen in Aion without my video card overheating.) Which is fine - I can't afford a new PC and can't put any more Ram in this one to meet the suggested amounts for most anything new or even recent.

My main problem is, I can't risk fiddling with drivers and having to possibly re-install XP. My disk burning software went wonky on me awhile back - to the point I had to uninstall it - (its old as well, so there's no fix for it I can find) = So... trying to making an up to date "slipstream" install disk would be difficult at best - on top of the fact that My XP disk is the "SP0" version. (Yes, I should've made a 'current' slipstream disk long ago.)

At this point it looks like I may be stuck with jaggies - until I can afford a new PC, which could be a while...

On the positive side, my system is running a bit cooler, I've got some stuff turned of that I might be able to turn up or on - butI've had water effects at tha lowest level for a long time, And not worried about new eye-candy - I just wish I had less jaggies.
  5. An in game petition (under "general" iirc) will usually get a GM's attention - typically rather quickly... 15 mins. to maybe an hour tops. Unless it's a major extended holiday, although in the last year or so they've been pretty good about keeping at least a couple GM's - seemingly 2/47.

    Gleemail!

    "Offline SG invitation/promotion."
This is a must-have, ASAP! (IMO)
  7. I'd suggest you be very careful about updating Drivers for older Nvidia Cards.

In my experience - the older the card, the higher the probability that the "Most Recent", "Uniform", (one-size-fits-all), allegedly "backward compatible" Drivers... Won't actually work! They'll almost work, but not quite, something will be wonky. You may not notice it till later on, the next day or even next week.

Don't automatically believe the hype, "Use the newest drivers" - Can in fact be, The worst advice possible. If you insist on following this advice, make sure you have a copy of your current stable driver, and be prepared to spend some time hunting down a 'new-ish' Driver.

This automatic 'cure-all' advice is like - calling your ISP for tech support when your internet connection goes down for maintenance/or there's a local outage/or whatever - And having them insist that you power-cycle your modem. (if you didn't do this before calling them - you have no business using a PC in 2010)
They'll followed that up by insisting that you bypass your hardware firewall/router, hook your PC directly to the modem "and see if that solves your problem".
That's not a responsible solution, certainly not a long-term solution, although it MIGHT let them see the last time your cable modem was reset and/or send it a signal and attempt to reset it.
But some of those folks will happily tell you don't need a hardware firewall "we don't support them", or some other nonsense they're reading from a manual... When they should be telling you to go ahead and re-plug your PC back into your router - after they've fiddled with your modem.

Anywho, I'd suggest you find a handful of the more notably/reputably stable Driver versions for your video card, and possibly chipset, sound or other on-board drivers (? = depending on the age of your system).

Before following the standard advice to "update all your drivers". This is only slightly more helpful than "make sure your power cable, keyboard, and mouse are all properly plugged in" - I mean sure that was great advice 10 or 20 years ago. But these days, not so much.

(Sorry about the rant - This is just one of my worst pet peeves.)

    Nope... I didn't.
It would've been a major hassle, even during the 2 months (or so) when they had the "Free Server Transfers = 7/per week". And, I would've had to add more slots to the server(s) I wanted to create the HEAT's/VEAT's on.

It was always that if you had a 50 Hero on Freedom, you could make a Kheld on Virtue.
Well okay then, nevermind... Really glad I didn't attempt to do that, although I'm guessing - I would've noticed that fairly quick-like, Till now my only experience unlocking them was on the Test Servers = my bad.

I'm quite patient, and there were a number of things we didn't know about how side-switching would effect existing SG's - we still don't know a couple things I'm want to know before I start moving toons around.

I may move some of them - once we get all the 'deets', some of them may just switch sides (on a couple servers where I ended up with both a Hero SG and a Villain SG), and the cap on number of total "base storage items" - may be a PITA!
But, the ability to Email stuff should relieve some of that pain = mailing stuff to Alts that can use it "now" as opposed to stashing it away for "later on".

And then of course - I heard (at some point?) that the Epic AT's would unlock at Lvl 20 with I17, so I didn't bother trying to hustle around transferring Toons during the "Free Server Transfer" periods. Especially without knowing the entirety of how GR is going to impact Side-Switching, SG Bases, etc.
We know a fair bit more now, but afiak last they said at PAX they haven't really settled on how some of the variables may end-up working between now and GR going Live.

    VEATs and HEATs

Been playing since I4, just recently got my 63 months Vet Reward... No Lvl 50's.

I'm an altaholic, a badger, a base-builder, and a completionist! (And getting Powerseller and Field Crafter can tend to be serious time-sinks...)

I've got 7 servers full = with at least 12 characters, 3 servers with 1-3 toons each, and I've managed to stop myself from creating any toons on my last 'empty' server "just in case... of ?"

On a decent majority of those alts - I've got their XP switched off at either 14, 19, or 24-ish = the levels where you can no longer do mission for a level-range of Contacts and/or open up unlockable contacts. And, some of them spent long stretches of time at 10, 15, or 20 = Due to the cut-off level for Mayhem/Safeguard Missions.

I have a bunch of bases, a few of them are "themed SG's", and a some are tiny personal bases for the 1-3 toons on those servers, or it's 1 Alt in a Coalition-ed SG base - From back when you could still drop/store stuff in a Coalition's base storage.

And of course, I was also playing AA and then TR for a decent portion of those 63 months. FWIW, my "Main" Hero & Villain are each parked at 33 or 34, and good number of them sitting somewhere between 24 and 32.

And then there's RL... Seriously though since they changed it (about a year ago) so we don't have to obsess over logging into every character & going to the market - at least once every 60 days (or risk losing everything there) it's been more fun and easier to keep track of in my head.
I suppose I should consider doing the spreadsheet thing - but that doesn't seem very game-like to me. I never used Mid's or been unto PVP, which I'm sure has something to do with it.

Anywho, I'm psyched about being to play HEAT's & VEAT's on the Live Servers - Playing them on Test isn't nearly as much fun, but it was enough to keep me from feeling like I "needed" waste a character slot on each server & grind up to Level 50.

No need to blow-by all the nifty unlockable stuff - contacts, badges, accolades, mayhem/safeguards, etc.
AND what's probably as big (if not bigger) factor is - I'm not stuck with a bunch of toons that can only get level 50 Recipes as drops... Did I mention 'roughly' planning out dual-builds on some toons for Exemp'ing down "later" (whenever/if that actually happens) *shrug*

I think it's gonna be cool to choose the Epic AT's - example in a couple of my theme'd SG's and whatnot, and choose to do those low-level arcs instead of Kalinda/Burke for Villains or the Origin-based Contacts for Hero's (Finally, Azuria can go trackdown all of her own damn "lost" stuff on her own! )

Oh, one more thing - Since they put in server transfers you really only needed 1 50 Hero & 1 50 Villain = you can just send them around to various servers, log them in create the Epic toons you want and then transfer again... So, this just means people like myself get more "content", minus the hassle. And up until recently lvl 50 has pretty much equaled a shelved toon, GR may change that somewhat.

Unless the "endgame" stuff is 'PVP-centric', in which case I suspect a fair chunk of players will/may take the Incarnate stuff and politely hand it back to the Devs so they can "shove-it" (so to speak), no offense... just being honest!

Oh, I nearly forgot - having the "Reveal" Power is going a long way to clearing out the "fog o' dark" on zone maps, Yep that bugged me too - but no longer - Huzzah!

And as a side note, would adjusting the merit cost of random rolls be helpful regardless?
    Interesting...
I wouldn't be too surprised if they worked in a fix for this into the crafting system - possibly something resembling the way that you can now build the Craftable SG Base Items with either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Tier Salvage.

I can see them working something like this into Set IO Crafting to shift a Recipe 'up' or 'down' a tier, say... 5 levels, and then maybe even allowing for further tweaking of level = at an inflated Inf cost (aka Inf Sink) to adjust the final Level of a completed Crafted IO - by an additional 1 to 4 levels, allowing players to "fine tune" a Crafted Set IO's level for a specific build.

So if you wanted - you could to take a level 24 Recipe, and Craft it using the standard (for the recipe) next lowest Tier of salvage - (and an increased Inf "Crafting Fee" (on top of the current price) to bring it down to Level 19... and then optionally - pay another (more serious Inf Sink) to tweak it down another 1-4, to a specific level = somewhere between 18 to 15.
So that, if you REALLY wanted to have a 'Dual Build' IO'd, specifically for Exemp'ing down to the level of your favorite TF/SF... or maybe a particular Ouroboros Flashbacking Level Range.

Something similar to this could be an additional Inf Sink, AND make some of those "off-level" Recipes... Potentially much more useful. Which just might be enough to get people to list these Recipes on the market instead of having them becoming Vendor Fodder. Or it could keep them from falling victim to the dastardly 'Delete-On-Drop Syndrome' - that takes away so many good Recipes before their time.
  12. Maybe...
Access to repeatable Mayhem/Safeguard Missions? And/Or some new variant similar to them??
Note: IMO Mayhem's are way more fun than Safeguards = I dig demolishing everything on the map. (The appeal is a bit like that of 'vandalizing non-subscriber's homes' in "Paperboy", yes I am in fact getting old.)

Suggestion - Letting the "x_" difficulty slider increase the number of each item needed/allowed to get the bonus time (and hence increasing the number of each that count toward the various destruction badges - per mission).

    Shush!

I mean - of course you'll keep a second account active, *Ahem*
You wouldn't want to hurt their revenue, right?

On a serious note, I've got no doubt that there are plenty of people that keep multiple accounts for other reasons = to Dual-box/Triple-box/?-box TF's, or to have "a metric ****-ton" of alts on the same Server, or to have lots of AE arcs, and... probably some other stuff too.

Or more likely, it would be combination of all the above reasons to have multiple accounts.

Oh great and mighty Pohsyb, Please tell us we'll be able to mail SG/VG invites to our Global Names - and thus easily invite ALL of our Alts into a new or existing SG/VG, (assuming they aren't already in a SG/VG on that server).

Dang, I just realized - that could also make Server Transfers much more attractive!
We could move all our 'themed-characters' into existing SGs that actually fit their back story & concept!
We could move them from "lonely slots" (i.e. one Hero or Villain on a server otherwise full of the opposing faction), Or for characters that side-switch, this would still give them a friendly and/or more appropriate place to reside after a "faction-swap".

Hmm... that could result in a TON of server transfers. Maybe we'll get another chance at a few free transfers after GR goes Live => After we find out just how side-switching affects characters, SGs/VGs, Prestige, and all those sorts of things?

Now I'm seriously stoked about I17, I was afraid it was gonna be mostly Ultra-Mode that my current system won't be able to handle and some fluff. But, Ultra-Mode aside its still chock full of WIN!

    Base Storage

Yeah, I'm still hoping they'll do something about this "Soon™"!

I have characters on servers where I've only got a couple on red-side (or blue-side). And ideally, I really wish I could move them to one of the Server(s) where I have a large or decent-sized, "Solo" SG or VG Bases.
To make use of the Teleporters, Empowerment Stations, a Pillar of F&I, and whatnot.

    But...
In those Bases that I would like to move them to, I've already got 18 "storage items" (or I'm quite close and all the ones I have there are essentially full), which is problematic - to put it politely.
  15. Or maybe they'll see that most players don't care for PvP that much at all - (especailly after the I13 SNAFU) - Yet, they DO like the PvP IO's.
And they'll see that a significant number of players - would prefer to mindlessly Farm (or AFK Farm, or some combination of the two) for the darn things... Rather than even attempt to get them "as intended" - and adjust the drop rate in some manner ?=IDK how, So that PvP'ing for them "as intended" is at least a semi-attractive way to go about getting them!

EDIT: Or they could go the "What Would Jack Do?" route, and nerf/handslap all the attempts of players jumping through crazy hoops & hurdles to avoid actually PVP'ing to getting the PvP recipes w/ the currently laughable drop rate. And whats even more sad is that players are - more often than not - wanting to get them for use in PvE! *shakeshead*
  16. Uhm, How about the 'go to hospital' power?
Yep, I'm finding myself sliding across the hospital floor, face-first, quite a bit lately. Or doing the death fall, then sliding... Then standing up a good 10' or so out from the Hospital's med-porter.
I have no clue why - other than possibly server-client lag?

Edit: FWIW, I don't really care about it = IMO, don't bother trying to "fix it" - it's kinda funny.
  17. Well, it's listed under Inherent Powers IIRC, and not in a Travel Pool - so I'd think (& hope) it wouldn't be greyed-out in those 'No travel powers' flashbacks.

But... I'm pretty sure one of the "In my day - we walked up-hill, in the snow, both ways folks" will object.
  18. Cardiff_Giant

    Top 5 Builders

IMO - you'd have to separate this into (at least) 2 categories, builders that create:

    1. Bases that look awesome in Screen Caps, Vs.
    2. Bases that are actually functional (ie: load time) &
(possibly? 3.) Bases that still look amazing when you're actually walking through them... (= limited 'tearing' of objects where they're overlapped, etc.)
  19. Hell yeah,

You'd think they could have it in D/FW one of these years!
Heck, they could have the whole thing IN the DFW "airport-complex", I mean they have everything = you could live there if you wanted and could afford it... But, having the whole Con there without ever leaving the Airport, that could be fairly expensive.

I'm 98% certain that the overall 'cost of living' = aka the cost of basically everything, is much cheaper here in Texas. And with a little searching I'm sure we could find a very nice AND reasonably priced place to hold it somewhere in the 'DFW Metroplex'. Probably less than 3 to 5 miles from the main (DFW International) Airport.

If you wanted to get the absolute best deals you might settle on someplace 8-12 miles away at most. Six Flags over Texas - is just a few miles south of there in Arlington, as well... Plus all the shopping, eating, movies, dinner theater, stand-up comedy, concerts, sports, you name it & you can almost certainly find it nearby.

Yep, this would seem to 'present' a bit of a logic problem. (pesudo-pun intended)

    BINGO! This-^

This yer's Winter Event and this year's Halloween Event - seem like they were more likely designed by WoW Devs, rather than CoH/CoV Devs. I say that because in both cases the "new stuff" for this year is... pretty much (WoW-style) "Raids".
In the sense that - it might not, 'look like a duck' but it sure does 'quack like a duck'.

The real problem with this is that In my experience - the seasonal events have mostly PUG teams & been very solo-friendly. Which was fortunate - due to so many players/badgers rotating thru all their alts (or at least trying to) to get all the various badges - especially in the winter event to get all the candy canes required to unlock all the costume pieces/snag temp powers/etc.

And in previous years players only 'needed' to get a team together to fight Eaochi, Jack, or Winter Lord for that last badge or two. While this year it seems like the event are designed to primarily focus on that previous, typically "last hurdle" = of gathering a team (or possibly a pair of teams) to defeat GM's.

The trouble is, that's really only fun once or maybe a handful of times. And thereafter, it just becomes an annoying/boring chore, (or maybe an obssesive 'compulsion' for some die-hard badgers), and a probably a nightmare for those with some degree of actual OCD.

I know some people have gone on "GM Hunting/Farming Teams" for the 2 Merits per Kill - and they may have abused that to some extent(?)
And while I'm sure there were some people did this - they've taked about it, But it feels like this year's Winter Event was designed to:
    1. Heavy-handedly discourage "GM Farming" - doing the whole 'defeat ReichSnowman' aka LW & 3 WL GM's, for 6 Merits (now bumped to a grand total of 8! )
How long does the whole Lord Reichsnowman Raid take ?, compared to the time it would've taken last year to kill-off 4 Winter Lords for 8 Merits.
I don't know about you, But I definitely smell someone burning nerf around here!
    2. It seems like this was designed to emulate thee "Raids" in 'other games' - that might sound like a good idea, but I don't think it will sit well with the long-time vets around here... you may snag some recovering 'WoW-addicts' - but when the Winter Event is over they're going to find out that the only other things around here like that are Hamidon Raids (and maybe Reichsman - but that's only a team of 8), or possibly Rikti Ship Raids??

Heck, what do I know? But, IMO it seems like a well intentioned... very bad idea. *sigh*

They could've been talking about Ninja Run or Walk.
Or maybe Hurdle - it won't except any Jumping Set IO's because of the Unbounded Leap Stealth IO. I'm not sure about Swift - I don't believe it accepts any Run or Fly Set IO's.
Although that was possible WAY-BACK, so somebody might still have one slotted on a toon - that they've never respec'd... maybe?

If they don't change this ASAP its gonna be a really crappy Winter Event IMHO.

Especially if the BNY mission doesn't award 5 Candy Canes as an option in the reward choices.
Unless, they have some other new mission that they're "hiding" for now - so as not to 'spoiler' it (maybe?)

This whole, "Fight Reichs-Snowman and 3 recycled Winter GM's" for 6 Merits, sounds like serious 'sucky-cide'. I'm betting that (unless they change it significantly) its gonna go over like a dead puppy in your stocking on Christmas morning.
Even 8 or 10 Merits AND 'basket' of 40-50 Candy Canes would make this - only slightly more appealing - than the "Supernatural Activity" part of the Halloween Event.
I mean a Medium Inspiration as a Reward?, yeah right... /em spit

And, while heaven only knows how sick to death I am of the BNY mission...(Specifically = Snaptooth and his redcap cronies!)
I'd still rather run that over and over to get Candy Canes/Badges for my badger-toons, costume parts for alts that they'd fit on, etc. Over trying to find/form/join multiple teams to "Defeat Reichs-Snowman".

Even considering the fact that my aging graphics card was already having overheating issues last year - with the graphics/textures maybe(?) on that kinda "frozen world" map, while soloing - but the idea of running with 2-3 teams? *shudder*

Note: No, I can't afford to get a new PC yet, (and IMO) its a bad time to do so right now until Nvidia catches up to ATI, Intel decides to stick with a compatible socket (or AMD catches up), man I hate the AMD/ATI thing (especially when it comes to CoH/CoV - who knows what will really be the best to run the game on after the upgrade in GR?), & until Windows 7 has been out a bit longer.
Also, just to head people off at the pass... No - I can't upgrade my current rig. Its a 5yr old SFF PC, and 'Small Form Factor' = I just barely squeezed in all the components when I built it.
Yeah I've looked into it, I could swap-out the 2 kickass 512MB sticks of RAM I have with 2 higher latency (much more generic) 1MB sticks.
That's not enough to justify the expense - when I'm looking to build a (full tower this time) whole new PC "Soon™".

Oops, Sorry about the upgrading rant... Uhm, its almost 'shopping season'... So, yeah that makes it relevant to the Winter Event! (kinda-sorta)

So, (Back to the topic) - UNLESS they make some serious changes to this mess.
I foresee a whole buncha "Present-clicking & WL minion defeating" for Candy Canes. And almost nobody bothering to mess with the "Lord of Winter" thing, at least not more than once with each of their "main badgers", & the detoggling B.S. would practically guarantee this...

What is with these (dare I say WoW-ish style) Event Raids?
If I wanted to have to gather 40 people (or even 3x8=24) to accomplish things I'd be playing WoW or some other similar game!
NO, I'm not gonna quit, heck I'm paid up thru next November & signed up/agreed to be billed for another 14 months after that! But I still reserve the right to be ticked-off about stuff from time to time...

I'm going to choose to believe that the people who don't understand this are still young and haven't been in the workplace yet.
Yep, I'm betting that the "Walk" animation was something they assigned to a new-ish animator to work on and learn the system.
I mean that sounds like something that will be spiffy for the folks that appreciate and/or want it - but also something that had no deadline = 'must been completed by date'.

I think it's something BaBs could get started - outline/explain - and then assign the job to an "apprentice" and maybe check their progress, would need minimal supervision, etc.

And if it didn't work out... Well, no harm no foul right?
Or he could come back in and assist said "apprentice" (IIRC, He DID say he had one of these awhile back right?) in fixing it and making it work properly - explaining where they missed stuff or whatever.

OR, I could be totally "off-base" here , *shrug*
