I'll admit, its not a perfect metaphor - (few are) but it seems people are going out of their way to intentionally miss the point I'd attempted to make, No?
I'm not complaining - I stopped that long ago, and I'm not worried about my dealings there = I've spent enough time there to know the 'norms' for the stuff I tend to buy/use or marketeer with...
I've "lrnd2mrkt" or whatever it is that the cool kids say, And IF I enjoyed the game at lvl 50 as much as I enjoy leveling up normally & indulging my Altaholism - I'd be contributing more to inflation in the game.
Just trying to point out that "the give the market your INF and wait" mantra is really off-putting for some people, especially new players.
That, plus the typical snark & dooosh-snobbery in many replies to newbies' posts in a very bad thing IMO, the biggest problem with the market isn't how it functions, It's not Ebilness, or black-hattery that's the issue here.
It's all the condescending trash-talk and azz-hattery that I have a problem with, I'll go back to lurking/reading (and actually playing the game if I have time) now.
P.S.

Quote:I have a small problem with this...Disagree. The beauty of this consignment house is there is no time limit and no fee on bids. You simply put up whatever you are willing to pay for something, then come back for it later. Your friends are choosing to bid until they can get it immediately. No one is forcing them to pay more than 500 inf.
I understand that it's a "consignment house not a "store", but it's the only damn place to buy some stuff.
Kinda like living in a small town with a nearby Walmart, If you need something you can't get at the convenience store down the street - then you're probably going to Walmart, or doing without.
Ok, so lets say your cooking for a party and a recipe calls for something you don't have. So, you hop in the car and make a quick run to Wal-mart. When you get there, they don't have the (for fun = lets say) feta that your recipe calls for, and your Greek in-laws are going to be there for dinner!
(And you have plans to go on an family-only TF, or ski-trip, or whatever afterward.)
What are you going to do ask for a rain-check?
Wait around for the truck to come in at 3am and hope there's some that shipment?
Would you really hand them some cash as a 'down payment' on the next shipment of feta & tell them you'll be back later to see if there was any feta in the truck?
Would you do the same if it was Hummus or Pita Bread, or... IDK - Doritos?
What if you found out that from now on - you'll have to buy everything (non-perishable) on a layaway program?
"Oh, you want wheat bread... Okay then sir, you can pay now and come back later and see if we've gotten it in yet - I know that's insane sir but its our policy now. Well sir, I suppose you could go make your own bread."
I guarantee you there would be people going postal - hence the frustrations with the Market, particularly with Common Salvage. -
Quote:I like this idea, but I wouldn't even make it a recipe. Just a button in the email (like "claim") and click it.
Or make it from the SG window. A box for a global name and click "New Invite Email".
This would be fine, anything remotely resembling any of the plausible ideas above would be wonderful!
So... Who's gonna go beg/nag/plead with War Witch about this at the next Con or Party?
(I'm thinking "help us War Witch - you're our only hope" might work.) -
Well said Finduilas, Pardon me but - I'd like to add a few other notes of my own...
Quote:And in that same spirit, I'd also like to add two words = Power Customization!Your conclusion that it's never going to happen is pure speculation based on statements that bases were primarily intended for groups.
My response to that is two words: market merge
Oh wait, while I'm at it... a few more words "Cathedral of Pain". (Most commonly followed by "shelved indefinitely", and something along the lines of 'broken beyond all hope of a fix'.)
Quote:Positron et al were MUCH more vocal on the side of never merging the markets than they have been on the issue of start-up base costs, and yet, that happened. And AFAIK, they have never come right out and said that base costs would never change again. Even if they have, or do so tomorrow, doesn't mean they won't change their minds next month.
Besides, if I want to spend the time and effort to express the opinion that it needs to change, why do you care?
And that "Super Group or Villain Group - means a literal Group of players" - as opposed to - say... a group of characters. And that group could quite plausibly be comprised entirely of Alts belonging to a single "City of" player.
Quote:EDIT: By the way, this is certainly NOT only a single-player issue. A small SG just starting out could also find it very daunting to have to make the leap from 400,000 to 730,000 prestige to make any substantial improvements to their base. Finding a way to ramp up costs more smoothly would help every new SG, but small SGs in particular. If the devs won't improve the base building experience for a single person SG, what about a 3 person group? A ten person group? Or is building a base supposed to be enjoyable only for 50 player SGs?
Problem, (according to reports from a convention panel IIRC) they scrapped a bunch of that stuff, Because during both the "Friends and Family" Beta and in other "Internal Testing" the re-done Base Raiding sucked!
It was said to be no fun whatsoever (Note: I'm paraphrasing), it was hinted at being due to the system design of incorporating Base Item destruction SUCKED, to all but the very most masochistic testers/players.
I'll go out on a limband say it probably included many of the PVP power changes in I13 as well - considering how those went over (like lead balloon) among the PVP crowd, and did nothing to bring PVE'ers over into the PVP game - like they had "intended by design".
And thank FSM, they realized that "Base Builder" crowd who'd gotten into "stacking" and whatnot... would have loathed that garbage because they'd have to 'turn up the volume knob of the Base Pathing to 11' (so to speak) and we hated "Pathing" with a passion already!
So they turned it "off" and fiddled with a few other things and gave us uber-stacking and there was much rejoicing = "Hurray for Pohsyb!"
Long rant, made short = Just because something was "intended by design" to work a certain way, doesn't mean nearly as much these days as it used to, stuff like this has been changed more than once. IMO, Probably because the people that designed those things aren't responsible for them anymore, or they left the Dev Team long ago... so there's no 'crow to eat' - which has been a long-time barrier to all sorts of change. -
I'm afriad I'm gonna have to burst that bubble Tex...
I'm running Win XP SP3, Athlon 64 3200+, 1GB Corsair XMS twin-paired/dual channel DDR 400 (still kick-azz 5 years on) Ram...
And a BFG 6800 GT OC
*With an admittedly OLD driver = Because it's the last one that's worked well with my card - from back when they still gave a frak about the Series 6 cards. Every attempt I've made to install newer ones caused me a truckload of problems, I'm simply not doing that again on this system.*
(I'm looking at parts for a new system, but this one still works well given that it's nearly eligible for Social Security.)
I'm not even trying to run the UltraMode settings, I'd be happy with a fix for Anti-Aliasing, that's been "broken" since I17 went Live. -
You need Power (not much) a Combo Power/Control unit in an Oversight Center should work.

I've often wished that Mr Yin expanded his product lines/stock.
Just seems strange that there's such a limited variety of these things -
Quote:I've been having this problem a lot recently, specifically with scrolling...Other than the occasional spot or two the only real flicker I get is when dragging the scroll bar on the badge listing(Nav Bar). It is really bad though whenever I scroll the badges even just slightly.
Although I seem to get a similar jumpy-ness in FireFox as well, thought it was a problem with my mouse.
I cleaned the mouse (found one nearly invisible bit of fuzz/lint - that may appears to have helped somewhat), But I'm still having issues when scrolling fast in FF & CoH in the longer badge windows.
I've also tried adjusting all the available mouse settings - that are known to cause "issues" with scrolling in FireFox, and it seems to happen a bit less... but its still happening?
In Firefox it's just a jumpy-ness (up or down) like something recently "broke" 'smooth scrolling' or 'autoscrolling' = it's not a major problem.
BUT, In CoH the whole damn UI/screen flickers and this IS a major problem, anyone have any answers aside from the standard/generic ones? Because I've already tried all the "usual suspects"... -
A "Two by Four", or "Four By Four" for Mace.
Hasten/SS = A NoFX version (or even a 'non-obnoxious' version)
Medicine Pool = option(s)
Teleport = option(s)
"Less graphic" Versions of AoE Imobs/Holds - Specifically for Controllers & Doms = Example = Earth Control - causes my whole machine to heat-up, sometimes to the point of GFX card's ram overheating & forcing me to do shutdown and let it cool off.
I don't even think about playing alts with some Powersets depending on the weather (particularly this summer), yeah I need a new PC, still that's not the point.
MinFX or NoFX Options for every Powerset where it's even remotely feasible/plausible.
Also (off topic) while I'm at it:
A "Restore to Default Colors" in Powerset Customization - accidentally changing something and realizing I've just screwed the proverbial pooch is heartbreaking.
An option to shutoff all "Music"... (I realized not long ago that Arachnos is into 80's/90's hair-metal/arena rock bands) even with the environmental Music turned down to 0%, but with my equalizer and Headset Volume cranked up far enough.)
And another option to shutoff ALL Sound FX/Music - (with the possible exception of glowies) = I want Freem Mode!
*I often have other stuff I should/(or actually need to) be listening to, even when I have time to play the game.* -
*In my best Dr. Zoidberg voice*
"Again, with the hassle..."
Seriously though - no, I can't. And in one specific case, I really don't even know who the heck the other couple semi-active people in that SG actually are - its been a bit like sharing an apartment with strangers for a couple years.
Almost all my friends left the game long, long ago (in a galaxy named "Pre-PVP & ED") round about I5-ish...
A few "holdouts" split not long before CoV/I6, (Specifically - back before they announced that there would only be 1 subscription fee for Both CoH & CoV - for along time it was presumed it would cost $30 a month to play both), With 1 or 2 staying sub'ed but inactive until about I7/I8.
I haven't been able to get them to leave their other games to come back... (Well, not for more than 2 weeks worth of reactivation via free key codes I had stashed away.)
This is just one of several things that the Devs seem perfectly content to leave as is = a major PITA - to people with only one account!
Of course, with 2 accounts - you can get around this and all kinds of similar headaches!Sorry, but relying on a semi-stranger's kindness (to get alts into SGs/VGs) and whatnot - simply isn't an acceptable solution IMO.
And now with GR (that I've bought), all the Booster packs (that I've bought), and the almost 6 years of Vet Rewards on my account = Trying to justify a second account subscription - just to avoid all these hassles & headaches that quietly nag at me when playing - is becoming a growing disincentive to play.
I'm paid up for something like the next 2 years, I'm not leaving... I just expected they would've addressed/fixed all this (*ahem*) stuff by now!
Oh, And FWIW - the free transfers don't seem to be working properly yet - according to various threads around here... -
Any chance of getting free Rename Tokens, (or whatever they're called - sorry I've just never been able to justify the cost of these), to minimize a bunch of unnecessary transferring = for people who just want to rename some characters.
Also (to anyone who's tried and knows...), If I were to transfer a horribly-named character that is the 1st rank "Leader" of a SG or VG, would I lose that spot to my alts OR to someone else that has alts in the SG/VG, who typically only logs in every few weeks or months?
(Or even worse losing the spot to some alt that hasn't logged in for years = literally, that I haven't booted in case just in they come back. I suppose I could just start booting en masse...) -
Any chance you could talk TPTB into giving us Free Re-Names during this same time-period?
Since it can be accomplished anyway, this would just eliminate/simplify - The hassle of swapping back and forth, and the quite likely creation of a temp character to act as a placeholder for the name being changed - while transferring the Character to be renamed.
And it would save whatever resources are used for the "transferring process" and reduce the load on the login servers... Which already seem to be straining a bit lately when people are shifting alts around to various Day-Job spots.
When they're mailing more than 20 items between Alts, and have to login to the "Destination Alt" to claim, things before logging back out & back in = so they can GleeMail 20 more items attached to emails. (Bumping that number up a bit might help some as well)
And all the extra logging/re-logging that will come along with people retrieving & re-posting, (or whatever) all their stuff on/in the newly merged Market - on every alt that has any current interaction with the Market...
I know that for that last several weeks - about half the time ATTEMPT to login a character, i get booted back to the login page (And it shows the character has logged in "0 days ago" - and it had previously been several weeks or even months in a few cases) - So, it seems they login BUT timeout while loading whatever Zone they're in?
I suspect it might be due to characters that are receiving multiple badges = 1 (or 2) Vet Rewards badges, a Day Job badge, and often a Day Job Accolade badge, and sometimes a "You've gotten X number of badges" Badge!
It "feels" like it may also have to do with receiving the MOTD from a global or server channel, & a SG MOTD, and maybe a "announcement MOTD" = OR it might be something completely different?
Anyhow... with logging in being "buggy" - at least for me, it would be great to minimize the logging for the whole "transferring to rename" if possible! -
One thing they I really wish they'd do is have either a Vet Reward, or maybe as "Special Offer"(?)
That would let people with only one account - Add an additional CoH/CoV/GR Game Account = on the same Master Account, that would be tied to their Original COH Account for the sake of Vet Rewards.
Or... For those players with multiple accounts already - and/or those who've had extra accounts at some point) "Catch-Up" a second or third account to an equal level of Vet Reward time.
Is it a "Veteran Reward" for being a long time customer? Or is it for a person's specific account(s) being a certain degree of "Veteran"... ?
I've had 2 CoX extra game key codes for a LONG time.
One that was at the time 'just for CoH' (it was included as a "parting gift" when they shut down Auto Assault - along with a beta key & full game code for Tabula Rasa).
And as fate who have it, another CoX code (among a couple other things) that was a "parting gift" for when they shut down Tabula Rasa!
I'd love to have 2 other accounts that I could turn on when time & money allows, but so far (over the last 2-4 years)... I just haven't been able to get over the idea that any characters made on those accounts would be missing stuff that may not be "crucial", But it's stuff I'm VERY used to having, and new toons without that stuff would feel very wrong. I know this was true in the past when creating alts on a trial account.
Especially if I was trying to "duo" 2 toons and one doesn't have - lets say the SG Base TP power. For other people, it might be some important costumes bits for a Themed SG's, or whatever.
Seems to me like having (at least) one Active subscription for several years = From back before there were any Veteran Rewards, should be enough to prove a customer as loyal and apply to have ever many extra Game Accounts a person has, Maybe limit it to 1 extra account per "Vet year" or something.
As it stands those 2 account codes will probably be used once - when I have the time... to invite new Alts into SGs/VGs, like we used to do with trial accounts. Last time I mentioned this last bit someone offered to help me get my alts into a SG, I appreciated the offer and may take them up on it at some point.
But, right know - I'm waiting to create New Characters after GR comes out with the new Powersets & some VEATs (maybe EAT's) that I've been putting off for creating for just this reason - no way to get new toons into my solo SG's at 3:30AM! -
-
IDK what they're planning on doing, But I do wish they'd have figured this out awhile back - Oh maybe before they had the 'free server transfers' thing.
That's rhetorical really...
I doubt they knew what they were going to do about this back then, and it probably would've changed. IIRC at that point they were still saying they'd keep the markets separate, not allow trading of anything beyond Inspirations between opposite factions characters, keep Influence & Infamy separate at all costs, etc.
Although I really do hope they'll consider another period of (at least a few) free server transfers - sometime after they figure this out & announce it - sometime after GR goes live... Maybe a few weeks later to allow us time to have alts swap factions - as needed.
I have a dozen or more characters on servers where I have 12 (or more) slots filled and all but a couple are them either are Blueside or Redside. Leaving the rest in tiny (often solo) little SGs/VGs, it would be nice to take all these alts and gather them up in more logical/practical manner - on whichever side/faction is more appropriate for them to exist. -
-
Sun-nofva...
Dammitt!
Great, now I have to go out & buy a new Failometer. *sigh* -
At one point they had a small attack, last time I checked - the "right-click info" still shows them as having the teeny-tiny attack, but it was disabled (maybe? via a change to the AI) long ago.
They're great at taking alpha strikes for lowbies, depending on where you summon them and particularly if you have a stealth power. -
Quote:For the Love of God/FSM/_insert deity here_... Please make this possible!I'm curious as to why some form of SuperGroup self invite hasn't been incorporated into the game. Even if it only allows the founder of the SG to auto-invite their toon creations, I'm thinking this would be welcomed with open arms. Guild Wars offers this feature and everyone in that game seems to love it.
I have so many ideas for Characters, and I haven't created one in months - precisely due to this issue.
I pre-ordered GR (I had early access to DP & DS) - But I have yet to make a single Dual Pistols or Demon Summing toon...
Specifically due to the fact that, I know I won't be able to invite them into my existing SGs/VGs.
I just can't bring myself to "waste" slots on new toons I'm not gonna play, due to the inconvenience of not having the amenities of a SG base that I'm accustomed to having.
It also pains me greatly to create a bunch of characters like this, and start playing them outside of SG Mode & missing out on Prestige - I have a server full of "Themed Alts" on Protector. Along with the "Main" Character that I used to found an appropriately "Themed VG" and the beginnings of a Base = (translation) a single tiny Workshop just off the Entry Room.
I have an Similar setup on anther server that I managed to get someone with an open slot (or a Character not in any SG) to temporarily join my new SG & help me invite my alts...
But, I can't do that every single time I want to create a new Character - @3am, Noon, or whenever. I won't impose on others play time to due this. And, I can't afford to keep a 2nd account active for whenever I want to indulge my altaholism.
We used to be able to workaround this issue this with trial accounts, they killed that due to RMT'ers. It seems that now either with Gleemail, or some other method you could grant/implement this long requested wish/feature! -
Keep in mind there will be - roughly half - as many "niches" after the Market Merger as there are now.
I'm sure there may be some exception(s) to this = example: (If I'm not mistaken) YinO's will become available to Villains - via the market.
Now, I know that's not exactly a niche - but its an example of a "new" variable to the market.
There may also be some IO's that become worthwhile to sell/market - for hero's or villains that were previously vendor-fodder.
This could be due to the types of IO's slot-able in New Powersets, or some powersets that were under-represented on one side or the other - Certain Pet recipes, Mez's (?), or End Mod Sets = due to Electricity Control.
Kinetic Melee, might up the demand for 'neglected' Melee Set recipes. Dual Pistols may do the same for Ranged Sets - and all of the new Powersets could have have an effect on TAoE & PBAoE Set Recipes as well. (Although, just how "noticeable" any of the above factors might actually be, is anyone's guess.)
But, I still see/predict an overall decrease in "niches"... There will suddenly be only "one stack" of each Thunderstike recipe for sale - instead of one stack Blueside and one stack Redside. Same with Doctored Wounds, and all the others in that "useful/decent Yellow Recipes group".
Of course with this prediction, I can't say - with any real certainty - what the effects of some Characters running 'opposite faction content' may/will have on supply/drop rates - but I have some ideas on a handful of things that will come into play... But I won't pretend to know the full extent these factors might actually have.
There will be the influx of New Toons with the Kinetic Melee & Electric Control (and a 2nd wave of Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols - for people that didn't pre-order, are recently returning, etc.)
Along with - zone size/travel time, #of missions required for Contacts to give you their phone numbers, each Contacts' number of non-story arc missions (which = no progress toward Merit Rewards for Story-Arc completion)...
On top of the difference in "Merit Rewards" for TFs, SFs, Story Arcs - and the possibility of opposing faction AT's having enough of an impact on data-mined completion times for the Devs to adjust the Merit Rewards for any of them?
The other thing that occurred to me is whether there will be a reduction of stuff that has been coming from AE Ticket Rolls - If Badgers start working on whatever 'Opposing Faction' Badges for alts that may become available (IIRC some may just change to their equivalent for the other side).
And there are certainly some that will become much less "painful" to get on the other side like the Defeat Redcaps to unlock those Daggers, or maybe Isolator (?), etc.
I agree their will be chaos, but I suspect it will be a form of "ordered chaos" at least to some degree. -
Quote:Actually that's an excellent idea - Brainstorms will be listed in the market, probably forever...Brainstorms!
In all seriousness, for a real inf sink, make the payout tradeable on the market whatever form it is. If they trade hands that is even more inf destroyed per the transaction fee.
Why not use them as "chips" = the "Brainstorms" are copper-ish & would be worth 1. So, add in some silver-ish Silver Psyche "MindRiders" with with a value of 10, gold-ish "KingMidas" at 25, maybe "Gamesters" at 50.
There's already a way to turn these into Random Salvage (or Random within a type Tech or Arcane, and/or Rarity). So presumably - some of the Tech is already there, and there's no reason to let that go to waste when the last of the base salvage runs out = a sad day indeed- or maybe not
.

Quote:I really do wish they (Jay & IDK maybe David?) would revisit the Trench Coat....buh? The ridged bits on the torso are selectable with the trenchcoat (nice clipping problem on the boobular area, by the by) but how would the hands interfere with the trench? Especially sleeveless?
IMO - Its always looked more like a leather biker jacket with some sort of nearly weightless pseudo-cape attached at the waistline. It does kinda have the "Neo in the Matrix" look, but only the scenes when he was flying and/or fighting and it was whipping around like mad to emphasis the wire-work stunts.
It looks very much like Neo's coat did when he was flying at Mach~?, to catch Trinity and he had the big trail of cars and various debris sucked up in his 'wake'.
That's fine I suppose - But still, I've been asking (begging) for years if they would add another version of trench-coat, more of a "Duster" type - that you might see on:
A Private Eye/Gumshoe (I'm thinking 'London Fog'), a Horseman/Cattleman (Australian or "Old-West"), a WWI or WWII Soldier, a Prohibition-Era Mobster, or ANY sort of robber/hoodlum/"Natural" Origin AR Hero or Villain = (to conceal weapons)/etc.
I've settled on the Lab Coat from the Science Booster on some toons, but that one really limits what else can go with it, and there's the 2-color choice = 1-Coat, 2-Buttons.
I'm sure there would be some clipping issues when moving, But, I'd happily deal with that, rather than the top half of the current trench-coat having a semi-shiny leather/Naugahyde look...
The worst part is the lower half appearing to be made of a featherweight chiffon cloth - that's always flowing around back and forth - every time I move a half-step in any direction, or pivot round an inch or two. -

Quote:Word. So? I've been here 3 years now, loving almost every minute of it. I totally support them wanting to bring in new players and can see the point of bonus things. But to make them exclusive shortly after they got all of our money? Not fair
I mean, this is almost worthy of an SNL "Really? w/ Seth" segment, IF the Proc portion of these didn't stop working at above lvl 20.... Well, then I'd actually be seriously upset - atm its merely a big fresh 'cup of disappointment' to start off my day with...
More specifically - It's like a big steaming hot 32oz. insulated mug - full of coffee from the local convenience store. One so hot, (you just add in your standard amount of sugar/creamer and stir) - you don't even taste it until you're well on your way down the road (and don't have time to go back).
And when you DO taste it, you find out that its 'Mud & Bugspray'-flavored, and you're fairly sure its fraking Decaf! -
Quote:The market isn't what I come to play the game for, but it's functionally essential to what I do enjoy about it. Take the market away and my dose rate of new shinies drops off, and that reduces my interest in play.
Yep, I agree there is definitely a large degree of "Where The Shinies Are" to the market.
Not the "Wild" shinies per se = those are the ones you find street-sweeping or running radio/newspaper missions...
And while I'm logged in, I have to say that, using the market these days the most annoying thing to me is having to click in the quantity box
Quote:17. Add "up and down" arrows for the "quantity box"
