this games pretty easy.....but the fact is that most of you drool on your keyboard so hard that you might want to take useful powers, especially useful toggles. Lets you drool alot longer without anyone noticing.
-
honestly between temp and ninja run....I dont take travel powers.
Fly is stupid slow, STILL. Superspeed has too many flaws and Teleport is crap compared to how the computer can use it.
Superjump is my all time favorite and it does everything the rest of those powers cant, which is get me to a mission quickly with few slots. Jump pool also has Cj which is damn good, too bad jumpkick and Acro are so skippable.
If the devs wanted to sink some cash, they could make SJ a buyable temp power for a cool mil and Id pay it every time. That and monkey fight club betting.... -
just use a healbot, thats all bad teams want anyways....

My catch phrase is " I hate your face!"
you may use it. -
Quote:you can drop the sonic from that equation and still have an awesome team.No its not lacking.
I have a lvl 50 sonic/sonic defender and i'm able to buff everyone on the team with 50+% resistance to everything except psi including my bubble. The bubble gives resistance + mezz protection. I can slap my friendly debuff AoE on my tanker and debuff everything in its path. on top of that i can drop liquefy in large mobs and its the equivilent to giving everyone on the team Elude combined with power buildup ancillary pool. with my sonic attacks and debuffs I am seriously doing some -res debuffs. Its not a highly desireable set i think because most people are ga ga over defense buffs and frankly with Io's and stuff defense buffs are highly desireable stacking up passed the soft cap. I think when teams start to realizing that having 1 cold and 1 sonic on a team is epic they will start being desireable. if you have 1 cold and 1 sonic you can pretty much give your team awesome def buffs awesome res buffs slows -def -res -kb's -tohit control combine that with a rad or emp or kin and you have a serious killing machine.
sonic doesnt do enough of what its supposed to do. It has the same sleep hole as ff, gets hit exactly as much with status and rider effects and has far too many skippable powers all for a huge end cost or long rech(liquefy). It also has annoying graphics that just arent clear enough to see through even with tinting.
Many of us want Sonic to be good, it doesnt have to be great but it needs to be far better than it is now, and I cant remember the last time the devs buffed a buff/debuff set besides TA. -
Id suggest two trappers.....pick up stealth and a stealth io....dont be afraid to run n gun. Get in, one person throw down acid mortar, the other throw down poison trap.....then happy blast, no really....keep blasting and be happy about it.
Respec trials are youre bread n butter once you hit 26.....at least youll be doing something while the teams complaining they are bored....one takes the area directly next to the reactor, the other sets up just outside that zone...... when you hear things explode throw down an acid mortar.....and watch the cartwheeling bodies fly through your mines and caltrops..... laugh maniacly....
stealth is your major strength, so dont skimp. Poison and acid traps are your friends, so slot them, and FFg gets stuck alot, be mindful of where it is before you unleash hell.....it also takes agro for you so sacrifice it often.
The rest of your powers are fun powers so have alot of fun with them. -
Quote:I think this starts to stray more in to Defense vs Resistance overall. As being the top res-based set I should be able to provide the same amount of protection to my allies in my shields as well as FF does with their shields, but we all pretty much know that isn't the case due to the current state of the defense metagame on CoH. We all know defense is overpowered and that argument shouldn't be figured in to the usefulness/uselessness of Repulsion Field as a power.
Crap, i remember when Def sucked Vs Res......oh the old days.
This set really needs to mess with resistance (+ for your team, -res for the enemy) Its decent, and stacks well. 3 or 4 sonics are gonna be noticeable on a team (in a super team setting) vs 3 or 4 FF'ers. This is the sticking point Im almost positive that the devs have with Sonic and its prohibitive end costs....this set stacks too well, BUT its so bleh on its own that hardly anyone plays it.
Luckily/unluckily popularity doesnt mean nerf/buff....otherwise Empathy would be dirt right now. -
well the consensus seems to be that Sonic could use a very minor buff. Thats good though. Im almost positive that a buff to sonic siphon isnt gonna happen, the set has an aoe -res and an end redux to disruption field isnt gonna happen unless its from 1.04 to .75ish.
I think the major problem with saying Sonic is lacking, is that in a solo situation it is, but in a team its hard to quantify. If you were a dev, how would you visualize the set, then adjust for 1 other At (team of 2) with a min/max performance....then adjust for 7 others with a min/max....then figure out how 8 Sonic resonancers would fair against most game content (the super team if you will)
Want to thank everyone for contributing, this is going to be a long hard road. -
Quote:Im not in favor of the cottage rule either, but Having those lame phase powers (and sonic doesnt even accept Intangible enhs) means I have powers to skip. Now, having too many useful powers means I have hard choices to make or like many armor sets I need practically everything otherwise im boned.(Ignoring the Cottage Rule because it's existance is nothing but a burdon)
I say we replace -all- phase powers from all sets. They are chosen 0.5% of the time. They are properly used less than that. They can be replaced by pretty much anything. And they take up space that could potentially help a powerset be productive.
Now, I don't care what fills these slots but the Phase powers are essentially a wasted slot. After all these years of people saying they are 'barely even marginally useful', I think it's time to finally replace them with new powers that help powersets with them be more productive. -
BUT I am not sure how I would go about making a convincing argument that it is. My gut tells me that compared to its sister, Force Field, the glaring sleep hole isnt right. FF's defense, and easily stackable (maneuvers, hover/cj, stealth?) defense sans Io's avoids most damage and sleep effects, while the resist based set and lower comparative values (1 def=2 res) means Sonic gets pummeled hard most times.
What I'm asking, is what should I be asking? I want that sleep hole gone, but should it even be in FF? Are these sets just so awesome that sleep and psi holes were necessary or are they just holdovers from days of Jack? Any help would be appreciated.
PS, Ro is unwelcome in this thread. -

you mean the dev team isnt gonna let it rot for 3 months then nerf the crap out of it for a year then actually fix it so its a semblance of fun?
this wont do, time to send out the Jack Emmert signal. We need to get this dev team back on thier previous track pronto. -
after seeing some of the disturbing costumes....or ideas players have, Im sure 'ruined sleep' has a whole other meaning.

Quote:if more players need to take a hardball to the face to amuse me....Because, of course, leaving them totally ignorant as to what a Defender really can do for a team that doesn't result in "green numbers" is the best solution evar.
If someone's trying to play baseball and using their face as the bat, would you tell them there's a better way, or just let them "enjoy their playstyle?" Because, frankly, that's what the "need a healer" folks are doing. Making things far more painful for themselves than it has to be, and leaving a mess for others to clean up. -
Empathy is a mediocre set at best.
Ohhh I can AB one guy on the team and he will Roxxor!!!
I can Ha on auto and save the team because im the greatest h34lbot alive and you'll all die without me. (youre a ******)
I can spot heal a team, destroy a spawns chance to hit, slow them down Kill an Avs regen boost damage, boost recharge/dam/rec in whoever is nearby (upto however many can fit in the radius) in one power, Mutate a guy (emps rez is lame like the set) Because Rad is an awesome set. It mitigates the need for heals, does more and has a heal which is a great set mule.
Dark is just pure awesome with a great heal and murders a spawns tohit chance, just by doing its thing and adds damage to the whole team as opposed to 3 guys with fort.....
FF....who needs healz?
Sonic...well its all dead now...who needs healz?
Cold/storm/traps very toolboxy, who needs healz?
So every set does more than Empathy but you noobs gravitate to it like youre playing Every other MMO.... Get real. Lamepathy is just that.
Now for those of you that challenge yourself with gimped toons, I applaud youre use of Empathy in that light......None of this is directed at you. Youre man/woman build is admired and should post your triumphs!!! -

never get powers that benefit your team...ever!!! Build solo and beg other people to tp you around so you dont need a travel power and only team with kins who put Sb on you so you dont need stamina.
Of course if people would just pick up the leadership powers and marginally slot them (mostly endurance) you could take on significantly harder challenges or steam roll faster for the measley cost of staying in LOS of most everyone and within 30' of the team (mids says 60' so from lead member to rearguard not being over 60')..
nah, beg for tp's -
Quote:The test server is meant to test the code that's going to later be on live.
So the code just sits there, and they port it to live without any revisions or 'nah guys this is not gonna work'
man if only they had more control over TEST server and used it as a test bed....for things and changes.....glad you straightened that right out Castle....oh right youre not a dev. -
Oh noes a bunch of whiny fat lazy gamers may 'come get me'..... if i post something on a forum....
of course with the mentality on this very board, Im in more danger of getting Rp'ed on then in actual physical/mental/social danger. You do not wanna get Rp'ed on......it aint pretty...Im looking at you virtue!!! -
Quote:you make it sound like theres a setting other than -1 x1.....you crazy kids and challenging yourselfYou do realize that you can up your level of challenge?
Using the Fateweavers and the Hero Corps Analysts, you can fight more enemies, you can fight higher level enemies.
If you really want to challenge yourself, you can flashback in Ourobouros and load up on the challenges (no inspirations, no temp powers, buffed enemies, etc.)
You can also build a character around a theme, rather than min/maxing the best build you can. Just because you can solo x8 / +1 maps with a Fire / Kin doesn't mean that you must play with a Fire / Kin. You have the option of playing a Grav / Storm Controller and seeing if you can make it work.
Once you take "fastest xp gain" off the table as your main goal in play, you can make the game as challenging as you like with the options already available to us. -
Ive been on 'speed' itfs that werent...and ive been on 'failbot' itfs that didnt....steer clear of emps and paindoms and add lots of buff/debuff and youve got yourself a winning combo...

use timebomb on a second spawn....to pull to the first spawn. Takes a bit of forethought and NOT always useful depending on circumstances.
Time bomb needs an upgrade. It and the rest of the nukes do too little for too much cost. Maybe you should get Arcannaville in here and see if she can balance Timebomb. The problems stem from Time to cast/explode, interruptible period, it doesnt technically break stealth you just alerted the spawn that you exploded all over and Trip mine works faster and has better dps...dpe? one of those two. -
Your style does dictate a secondary. Like to just drop acid mortar in the middle or in front of the spawn? Dp for middle and Dark for front.....aoes vs cones. just something to consider.
-
everyone should just play emps.....oh right, on freedom most already do.
after that.... you wanna be in melee? Take your lumps. I do whether im on ill/rad or traps/dp, you can too. Melee is the best place to be, although sometimes when im doing my thing its a terrible place to be......for them. -
I would be interested in the devs doing off combo proliferations on test server. Could spark a few mad ideas and everything on test server is harmless....
