Quote:The fourth season is considered the worst by a lot of folks, but I can't believe you refused to watch the last few seasons just because SMG dropped some poundage. And that's a big part of why I didn't bother watching the last 3 seasons. Lazy writing and the Angel spinoff being better (most of the time) were the others. Suspension of disbelief only goes so far, and somebody who weighs 90 lbs being able knockout somebody twice their size goes way beyond that.
I mean you missed out on "The Body," Giles' pimp return at the end of season six, and probably the most epic series finale ever.
Gah, man! Gah. -
Quote:There's a presence factor to take into account as well, though. She still looks terrible for the part, but at least they came to their senses and went with the darker pants and red boots.
If they can get her to put on at least 10 pounds of muscle I might actually be able to believe she could fight her way out of a wet paper sack.
I mean as Buffy the Vampire Slayer went on, Sarah Michelle Gellar got skinnier and skinnier while at the same time getting more and more badass. -

How come one of the comments says the actress has fake breasts? o.O

Part of the problem with a Martian Manhunter movie is he doesn't have a set love interest and archvillain, which seem to be mandatory for every superhero movie these days.

It seems like it's harder to keep a show on the air when you just stock it with hot women as opposed to good looking dudes. I mean look at Birds of Prey, Dark Angel, and Dollhouse. Maybe the balance of viewership has shifted toward females.
I like to think the writing has the most impact, which kept Buffy and keeps Supernatural on the air. -
I don't know how anyone could watch a movie where the main character dies to "Mad World" and not find it sad. o.O

Quote:I just like thinking about it.I personally have no problem with the "15 years younger" verison of Monica. But 15 years ago I recall plenty of people shooting her down, just like there have been people who've been against basically EVERYONE else who's ever been suggested for the role. Besides how is a time-warped version of Monica going to help us now

Quote:Anyone arguing with Monica Bellucci in her prime? If I wanted to I could probably list off 50 actresses who were randomly offered up as the "perfect" Wonder Woman over the last 30 years. They were of course all "perfect" to whoever suggested them and each "imperfect" to plenty of others.
Anyone?
Bueller? -
Also if they really want to sell people on this show then one of the shots they release needs to have her looking like she's ready to wail on someone.
Show her holding up some thug by the collar of his shirt with her fist cocked back or something. -
Quote:Monica Bellucci 15 years ago.As I've said for years (even on many other Wonder Woman threads long before this particular show became a reality) I pretty much assumed that there would NEVER be a living actress that would ever completely satisfy everyone's desires for this character.
Even I'm not completely sold on Adrianne playing the role (for all sorts of reasons) but I'm not going to let a "non-perfect" actress stop me from giving the show a chance because when it comes right down to it there will never be a perfect actress for the role. *shrugs* -
Crazy.
I wonder if there's a friendly rivalry between him and Chris Evans to see who can bulk up the most for The Avengers. -
Having just watched Amy Adams in The Fighter last night, I've changed my stance from "this is acceptable" to "she'll do great."

Quote:According to his IMDB page there's just Survival of the Dead after Diary that's out right now.Ya...I have both versions of Dawn of the Dead and I much prefer the remake, even though it has fast zombies rather than shamblers. Land of the Dead is...ok...and Diary has its moments, in particular the Amish guy, but overall, the social commentary is a bit over the top and not really conducive to making a good (read: enjoyable) movie. I thought there was another one after Diary, something about zombies on an island trying to form a society maybe? Dunno. Haven't seen it.
-
Quote:Unfortunately I did.And have you seen Diary of the Dead...ugh.
That movie hurt Romero's legacy more than Dawn of the Dead ever did.
I thought Land of the Dead was okay, which let me give Diary a chance, and it was just terrible. It was hard to believe the guy who's considered the father of the zombie movie genre made it. -
Quote:It should be noted, however, that Alan Moore would hate any adaptation of his work, so it's not something that should be counted against Snyder.Moore was incensed that Watchmen was bastardized for the movie version and stayed away on general principle (even though is, ironically, the most faithful adaptation of any of his works), and Romero was not involved in the remake of Dawn of the Dead (which he said had "nothing going on underneath", a common criticism). For all Snyder's professed admiration for them, he certainly doesn't mind when they dislike his remakes of their work.
Also, Romero isn't happy unless a zombie movie is beating the audience over the head with his commentary on society. -

Quote:We already had this debate, sir. I'm fairly certain you think you won and I think I won, and I'd rather not do the same back and forth over the same movie for an even longer time, but if you post things like this you'll leave me no choice.I am always more than willing to discuss any film or book with someone who holds the opposite opinion. But you have to be able to explain to me logically why these obvious flaws exist in order for me to accept your point of view. There aren't many examples of me changing my mind on this forum, but those examples do exist.
In the case of District 9, though, you aren't going to achieve that feat, because it really is a stupendously stupid movie. This doesn't mean that you are a stupid person for liking it. That *might* be the case, but it's not an equation I make automatically, because you never know why someone likes something stupid. My mom liked watching Golden Girls when she came home from work, but she was an ER nurse who literally saved people's lives every single day. So she liked something that was neither emotionally nor intellectually taxing. If that's why you enjoy the stupidity of District 9, that's fine, but if you want to argue that it's a smart piece of cinema, I'm going to gut your argument like a fish and make you cry like a baby.
I mean if we're gonna do this let's at least pick a different movie.
Also, about Sucker Punch, I basically agree with MentalMaiden's take. -
Wait wait wait, are we talking "busts" in terms of quality or box office? In either case, that's a shaky set of examples.
-
Bah, if you're going to have Booster and Beetle in it, use Ted Kord.
Also, what the **** happened to this season having Clark fight Darkseid? Lack of focus much? -
I was hoping for Rachel McAdams but this will do.
I've yet to see Amy Adams in a more aggressive or ambitious type of role, though. -
Saw Sucker Punch and The Lincoln Lawyer today.
Even though The Lincoln Lawyer wasn't really an Oscar-bait type film to totally contrast with Sucker Punch, I think most would say it's a more complex movie, despite the fact that everything was resolved within it while I'm still digesting Sucker Punch. -
Quote:Again, I wasn't saying anything about the fact that, according to the site we've been using in this thread as a reference for reception of the film, the higher audience rating means it's good or that it's going to make money. I was just saying it's a fact that, according to the site we've been using in this thread a reference for reception of the film, the audience rating is higher, which contradict's someone's earlier statement about how the audiences have enjoyed it just as little as the critics have. The general masses aren't the best at determining what's good. It's like going on Amazon and seeing something getting 4.5 stars and thinking, "Wow, that must be awesome," when in reality it isn't near the top of it's kind. Still, a low 20% from RT. 36 from Metacritic which is even more accurate since it takes the average score versus thumbs up, or down. The review in my local paper, although it's a national guy, called it Airbender with bustiers. That's just a brutal comparison to have. Is it going to make money this weekend? It's pretty much a virtual lock to be number one.
