Well you certainly have my apologies for suggesting otherwise, but I hope it didn't keep you from thinking about the rest of what I had to say. If everyone who played felt like you do, we wouldn't have big epic walls of text in various mission arcs. There is a group of players who enjoy reading it, and the writers indulge them. Never mind the fact that most players probably aren't in that group. As always, they can skip past it.

When I first read about the new loading screen tech, my impression was that we WOULD see a few pages of introductory comic book pages before monthly story arcs. And I was overjoyed. I'm a comic book reader. Call me crazy, I know this is a comic book themed game and all, but I would enjoy having a few comic book pages to read. While I enjoy the occasional fiction that appears on the front page of the website (and I do), I'd be happier if they made those stories into comic book panels. Every time I read them, I wonder, "Why isn't this in comic book format?"

Yes, some people will complain about waiting for a team to flip through comic book pages. I understand! I don't mean to be argumentative Feycat, but fans of the genre may feel much differently. Fortunately, this is nothing new. Players have had to face the choice (to read, or not to read) for years now, in the form of walls of mission dialogue text which take MUCH longer to read than a few pages of comic book panels and speech bubbles would. That is why my global friend list is carefully crafted for like-minded players who enjoy reading mission text, and don't mind waiting either. I can only presume other players (such as yourself) have global friend lists or SG rosters chock-full of the opposite.

Room for both around here, I'm pretty sure. You could tell your friends they better not stop to read the comic book panels on your time, and I could tell my friends to feel free and take their time.

Yes, actually. It is exceptional. And you have touched a nerve. Maybe not the nerve you were aiming for (I LOL'd at your post). You're surrounded, in this thread at least, by people who DO feel that Paragon Studios HAS been and IS doing something exceptional. We feel that way already. I'm deeply impressed by the product and service. I have been for two years now. My average staying time with an MMO? Three months, tops.

When reviewers and players mention City of X's upstanding community, they're not referring to this "pfft" attitude. They're referring to a whole lot of people who are already GENUINELY VERY HAPPY to be here. You've excluded yourself from being a part of that club, and you don't speak for anyone but yourself when you balk at congratulating Paragon Studios for doing their job. It's a damn fine job they're doing. Hell yes, I'll congratulate them for it.

The scientific community was watching. The meteors did not originally appear to be on a trajectory headed toward Earth, but instead were expected to pass within a few million miles, accompanied perhaps by a smaller outlying group resulting in a spectacular but harmless meteor shower.

I know (sorry I wasn't clear), I'm saying I would have used it for a character. I know most people just use costume powers to show off around Atlas Park, but I like to think of ways to make characters out of them.

(I was VERY happy to see all the costume powers in the market.)
  6. If I had known this was a limited time offer, I'd have bought it. I'm just now seeing this thread, and I didn't see anything on the front page of the website. I saw it in the market, but figured I could buy it at any time. I often don't purchase new costume pieces until I have a character idea in mind for them, except in the case of limited time offers.

(One of my characters got his powers from a sunken pirate captain's curse, so this would have been a good costume for something. )
  7. Really looking forward to learning what makes these new Shivans tick--and who or what is driving them. With their seemingly new-found ability to absorb much heavier materials, I'm guessing this event--and other events going on around Paragon City--could make for a "perfect storm" on Paragon City and Primal Earth.

A great prelude to the events in Galaxy City, Beastyle. Reading this makes me want to add a natural origin PPD officer/hero to my roster. This story made me think of that new billboard under the monorail in Atlas Park, "Not all heroes wear capes."

Well! Same thing happened when I tried to bring "undies on the outside" to Paragon City.

Not very good at this trend-setting stuff....

  13. Server upgrades are like really yucky tasting medicine. It may suck going down, but when you're back up, you'll be glad you took it.

One thing I am ALWAYS pleased to see is a server upgrade announcement. Complaining about them is like asking to please be shot in the foot.

This is coming from a guy who has tomorrow off, and planned on playing.

I would have loved a heads-up too. I'm with you on that. I was relieved/agitated to finally see a message buried on Facebook--which I don't use--after looking on the website and digging through the forums. (Relieved because I was afraid it was just my problem, agitated because the Facebook message appeared an afterthought by CR.)

My main point was that a HUGE bag of awesome stuff just landed in our laps with Freedom and Issue 21. It took months of work to introduce oodles of new systems and services. But I'm not going to start condescending to people, throwing words like "disgusted" at them just because their forum software had a hiccup in the middle of all this stuff they just gave us. That looked petty, and it's what motivated my comment. Calling you out on it "in public" probably wasn't very friendly or mature of me, sorry. (<--- Next-day hindsight. )

Don't sweat it bro, that's no where near as bad as that time I woke up in some sleazy hotel room two states away, wearing super hero tights, buried under CoH Collector's Edition boxes and Freedom Phalanx action figures.

Glad you got that off your chest.

I agree with you that CR could have done a better job communicating. On launch day, I wanted to sing i21/Freedom's praises (on the forums). I'm sure the CR team realizes they missed out on some free advertising. But they probably don't maintain the forum software. For all I know, a third party outside of Paragon Studios could be responsible for the forum bug. The world may never know.

I haven't seen more hiccups than I expected (I expected more). Look, I subscribed to my first MMORPG in November, 1997. Speaking from experience, I can say that this was a refreshingly smooth launch for an expansion. As usual, Paragon Studios does things better. Not perfect. But better.
  19. This fix worked for me too (i.e. changing my game account password, NOT my master account password).

    2. Meanwhile, Evil Geko finds a workaround for a forum bug.
    3. DumpleBerry congratulates Evil Geko on such a good job (much-deserved!), whilst looking down his nose at Paragon Studios.
    4. ???

I think "disgusted" is a strong word to use. Considering all of the changes, Issue 21 was a strong launch for an expansion/issue double-whammy.

A fine story to cap my night off with.

Admittedly, I'm a "journey-not-the-destination" type of guy, so this doesn't affect me directly. But to comment on your post, all of the content in the game is included in the price of a VIP member's subscription or premium player's purchase. Outside of those fees, there is no monetary value assigned to content with the Mission Architect system in the form of influence, euros, dollars, pounds, or anything else.

Any amount you (or anyone you know) might be charging for farms is simply pretendy fun-time fees. You're basically "role-playing" that you're providing a service that should cost a fee. I'm not saying that's wrong in ANY way! But not everyone is going to want to pay to RP that, er, "concept" with you.

And this happens quite enough as it is!
  24. When this happens on Virtue these days, the result is remarkably different. Occasionally you'll see one person in chat asking for a farm, and then you'll get a long, never-ending list of replies ((many of them in double brackets!)) demeaning the player and suggesting they go play on Freedom. In many cases the farmer stays quiet after that.

See? Freedom players insist Virtue never does anything nice for them. But on the contrary, we send them lots of farmers!
  25. Don't let this game go to the Europeans!!!!!!!!!
