Quote:I'd like to see more variation between the sides too, but in this particular case, a team-up between Mot and the Banished Pantheon is something for everyone to worry about. (Got plans for world domination? Wait, oh sorry, Mot just ended civilization as we know it. Better luck next time!) This isn't some second-hand Incarnate we're dealing with. Mot has the potential to be a threat on the same scale as the Rikti have been at times, and think about all the changes they caused, from the war walls to the formation of Vanguard. If not for their weakness to magic, the Rikti would have ravaged Primal Earth as they have many other Earths. What's to stop Mot from finishing what the Rikti started? I don't know; but it sounds like it's going to be everyone's problem to solve.Hrmph. Saving the world from villains (that are apparently much better at being villains than me) is getting a bit old.

After reading through the thread I see there's a lot of worrisome speculation, but I'm really-really-REALLY excited for this.
I have several "support role" characters whose "lives" in the game have been almost entirely defined by their experiences alongside others. But stories are why I'm here. So my first time through major story arcs, I prefer to experience the new content solo, which gives me a chance to read mission dialogues and speak to contacts at a leisurely pace. In other words...I like to play and read without getting rushed along by a bunch of "GO GO GO" teammates. For this reason, many of my favorite characters are tanks, built and respecified to be able to experience content on their own. For this reason also, not a single one of my characters is an Incarnate. -
Didn't really intend to make a CoH smack-talk thread.
Quote:This is an excuse I can't see myself ever being able to make. Most of the time, when I go to load up City of Heroes, content that Paragon Studios has produced is not the first thing on my mind. So much of this game (for me) is based around MY content, the characters and stories *I've* carved into my corner of the game universe, as well as the friendships I've formed. Issue 14 (Mission Architect) is what brought me to City of Heroes. Since then, I've been introduced and surprised by many wonderful stories both official and unofficial. City of Heroes re-sparked my interest in comic books too (they're not just for kids anymore). Most importantly, over the past two years, in creating my roster of characters, I've stoked a greater fire upon my imagination which has helped me elsewhere in life. That makes City of Heroes valuable to me in ways that few video games can be.I do like this game but it has become the same old, same old. Nothing too exciting or wild here.
My want for a break has more to do with me than with City of Heroes. I just think it's healthy to "take a vacation" every once in a while from things you've spent a lot of time with. I already have other interests that take up my time (especially writing and reading), so it would be hard for me to split my entertainment time between different games. -

Well, that part actually makes me feel BETTER about things. Because I can take a break (eventually, maybe), but still "drive back down to Paragon" for a visit once a week or so. Maybe twice a week. Okay, three times TOPS.
I'm not tired of the game. This is my favorite game ever. But, you know. Been playing a couple years. Got a pile of never-played single-player games across Steam, GOG, Gamers Gate-- summer sales and daily deals and stuff. Sometimes it's good to walk away from something for a bit, so you can come back to it with fresh eyes. I've noticed I haven't had as many new character ideas these past few months. -
I don't mind saying what's on my mind, but in this case I just don't see what people were up in arms about. When I first loaded up the Market, I was impressed. It was simple, easy enough to navigate, loaded up fast, and had a bunch of stuff to click on and buy. Did what it said on the tin. Nuff said.
But then I looked at the forums and saw a bunch of complaining.
Sure, some better sorting, organization and grayed-out Buy buttons would be nice. I won't argue that it's rough around the edges, but it's good for a first version. I think a lot of people were expecting a UI that was fully built into the game, like dialogue windows and WW's UIs. Sure, that would be nice, but come on, we're working with a seven year-old game here. A seven year-old game that is still better than the newer, slicker competition.
You can click and buy stuff just fine. Ya'll sound like a bunch of princesses. -

Wait, what???
I haven't seen any mention of a CCG within the Power Packs (I also haven't had a chance to read every thread and there is a lot of new news popping up today). Can you please link to something or tell us where you heard about this?
Sounds interesting to say the least! -
I'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'd pay 15 bucks for more space account-wide. I'd like it to include a second tab though. Would help break things up and you could have them be for different aspects of your character. Like, a traditional bio, and then a summary of your latest adventures or whatever you wanted.

There's nothing I love more than a good story, and that's the truth. I love City of Heroes because it's full of stories. After other peoples costume contests, I often surprise contestants with additional winnings for those with well-written, fascinating or intriguing bios.
So, as an avid reader of bios (did I mention I love stories?), I actually have a few additional features to add to the OP's wish. Disclaimer: if you are in general disagreement with Ace's topic, this might make your head explode.
First, the ability to call up any character's bio, no matter where they are in the game, no matter whether they're online or off.
Because, dammit, this is a super hero game, and super heroes have fans. I want (nay, NEED!) easier access to keep up with my favorite characters exploits, but not all of my favorite characters on Primal Earth and beyond belong to me.
The social rewards from such an upgrade would not be subtle.
Players would feel more inclined to update their bios with their latest happenings, knowing that watchful allies, fans and nemeses were, uh, watching. Privacy or bandwidth concerns? Fine, make the slash command usable only for those on friend lists or global lists.
In a nutshell, I could read longish bios for hours; but without easier access to them, such a feature doesn't make make much sense, even to a dork like me who might just be its biggest fan. ("I might not want to read your bio right now, in the middle of a big explodeyfied TF. I'll read it lat--OH WAIT! CAN'T!")
Now for a couple wackier ideas that are so crazy, they just might or might not work.
Second, an extra tab.
This wasn't my idea. It was Tormentoso's, from the first page.
Quote:But with a caveat, with further social consequences. Because bios, as they stand, are a stale story-telling platform.I've always liked the idea of multiple bio pages. Basic page for main information, and extra pages for character progression, next issue, etc.
What if players could pay other players some arbitrary amount of influence for access to their "character progression" tab, a blog-like account of their adventures? The amount of influence required? Totally up to the players who own those characters.
("Omg what's the point?" Okay! Don't rush me.)
The result would make influence even more like the social currency it's designed to mimic.
Alternatively, if access was acquired via a WW's auction format, the resulting social capital might be even more interesting. How interesting do you think your character is? How interesting do other people think he or she is?
You might think such a feature would go unused, but the success of blogs and vlogs suggests otherwise.
Friends could keep up with friends, but more importantly for Paragon Studios and retention rates, you would see popular characters and loyal audiences emerge from this system. Famous characters like Ascendant are rare, but that is because there is not currently an easily accessible platform for those who have the ability to grab and retain a loyal readership in a very small space. -

This thread might not help further the truth either, considering all the lazy eyeballs who may just skip and glance through the first few replies.
I recommend editing your OP with large bold letters. -
Quote:Same. Using the latest Firefox here.As others have said - I also check "remember me" when I log in EVERY TIME. And every single time I close my browser (even if I reopen it ten seconds later) I'm logged out of the forums again.
It is getting annoying when I check the latest posts on a subscribed thread - if I forget to sign in, no more emails for me until I sign in again so it'll send me updates again. This means on occasion I miss several days worth of posts getting emailed/updated on a thread.
But yes - every time I close Chrome (or IE when I've tried to see if it is browser specific), must log in again on the forums next time. When I leave the browser open, I stay logged in (but not sure how long because I loathe leaving my browser open any longer than necessary) -
I think it would be wise for them to test their options (and they appear to be doing this, which is good, all trial-and-error woes aside), but personally I'd prefer lots of charges. Altitis is common in this game and it sucks to feel pressure to play a particular character because they've got a limited time power on them. However, if the limited-time power is account wide, then that changes things somewhat, but not enough to become my stronger preference.

Quote:My characters all live in the Virtueverse.Captured some of my reasons perfectly there.
Which server do you play on?
Well, um, except for a diaper-wearing baby troll on Freedom. And a walking, talking mechanical Superadine-producing factory. And a giant mutated sanitation engineer.
Anyone who puts some thought into their game, feel free to add me, @Captain-Electric. For those who are new to RP in City of Heroes or curious, my teams are the easiest place to start. No pretentious jerks, plenty of laughs, more action, less drama, AE authors as talented as the best comic book authors, people you'd probably like to meet!

The only reason I'm buying this is because I was sick from work a couple days, and had some lunch money left over.
