It is not just larger, but a different color than the default cursor.
I haven't lost my cursor at all since installing it. -
Don't look at this as thread necromancy, look at it as a wakie inspiration!
Recently I've heard more complaints in the game about mouse cursors "hiding in plain sight," and it made me grateful for having Ruff-n-Buff's solution; but it made me realize that many people probably aren't aware a solution exists. As Christmas approaches and heroes and villains upgrade their computers and monitors, mouse cursors will get lost on bigger displays featuring better special effects. The larger mouse cursor mod has saved me a lot of frustration, and continues to save my characters butts, play session after play session.
So to prevent anyone having to dig around, I'll collect all of Buff's mods in one post, in reverse chronological order. His most recent (and probably most helpful) mod is listed first.

Junk info:
If you want all your cursors identical (bit for bit), I am sorry. The game has some bizarre checks in place to prevent this. It will even give a warning that having them the same is bad for your health and then refuse to launch. If you change even ONE pixel, it's good to go. Yeah, I don't know, either.
The game APPEARS to expect a certain file size for cursors and will just truncate any data beyond that, so, this is why the pointers are relatively small. If I figure out how to make them bigger, I will let everyone know.Quote:Good idea! Here we go:

I've also forwarded this concern along to the development team for consideration as a "Quality of Life" improvement.
Thanks!

Quote:What a great idea! This looks like it may also keep things balanced, since you'd be sacrificing some of your primary or secondary functionality (and other power pool picks) for every ranged power pool pick you chose. Granted I haven't pondered the drawbacks and I'm having a knee-jerk moment here, but I can't see characters becoming too unbalanced or overpowered under this scenario. It's simple: New power pools or maybe even new APPs. (actual names and powers may vary but this is a rough idea)
Machine Gun power pool:
-Burst
-Pummel
-Heavy burst
-Suppression fire (cone with slow and -tohit)
Rifle Power Pool:
-Single Shot
-Bayonet
-Sniper rifle
-Armor Piercing Round (-res/-def)
Side Arm Pool:
-Pistol
-Pistol Whip (chance for stun)
-Double Tap
-Executioner's Shot
Pistols Akimbo Pool:
-Pistols
-Point Blank Double Shot
-Dual Wield
-Empty Clips
Shotgun Pool:
-Buckshot
-Bird Shot
-Taser Slug
-12 gauge
Devs, please throw this idea out on the table at one of your meetings! -
Quote:I'm happy about it. I have a Gravity/Force Field controller. She's one of my favorite characters, especially for playing a support role. But there was always some "oomph" missing, and I couldn't put my finger on it. Maybe this is it.Based on the teaser from last week, I expected a little more in terms of powers updates than "...and Gravity Control, too." Granted, the change to Gravity Control does sound pretty nice. It doesn't really offer a big fix to the powers that are below the curve, but it makes it better at what it already does, so suppose that's good enough for me.

Quote:By the time you get back, maybe the irritating issues in your new MMO will be getting old-hat, and City of Heroes will have replaced theirs with shiny, BRAND-NEW irritating issues.Which is effectively what I am doing. Taking a break, playing a different MMO, possibly coming back in the future (but only AFTER they've fixed the irritating issues!)
*Sips his half-full tea.* -
What I meant was, I have dug my heels into a dozen MMOs over the past fifteen years, and so I know by experience that people have it really good here.
But this is an MMO. So things are always breaking or broken. That is what MMOs are like. Big, exciting, frustrating works in progress. Your frustration can become like a magnifying glass, and you won't be able to see all the things that make it worth the while.
So don't get frustrated. I know how that sounds. But I used to do that, so I know. In the MMO space, it's a really bad idea to let yourself go there. You'll never be satisfiable. Only certifiable.
You might want to take a walk away for a few weeks or months, it can be healthy to do that with hobbies in any case. But that's different. That has to do with you, not the hobby necessarily. -
I have been an MMO subscriber of one sort or another since November 1997. You guys think these are big problems? These aren't big problems.
This is a good game. -
But you'll miss out on the Statesman loyalty rewards.

Quote:Just right-click them, look at their info and have a look at their veteran badges. If you only see two or three--or especially one badge--then they are genuinely new, and you're doing you, me, them, and the entire community a favor by introducing yourself and welcoming them to Paragon. I try to do this at least once every time I play, if I find myself in Atlas Park. I'll right click on people who appear on the sidewalk at the bottom of the steps (whether they're wearing a tag or not), and wave to them from the top, "Welcome to Paragon City!" This is one of my favorite things to do, and being on Virtue I always approach them in-character until it becomes obvious they're not playing along (they usually play along).ive never done this cause i know a LOT of people who use the help me title for pure vanity of the purple name lol
You could be their first experience of the world, and if you set the mood and make their entrance a grand one, they will remember it for a long, long time. Worth considering. -
Quote:That is a slap in the face for all second grade fan fiction writers.Wow having reread my post, which I made after coming in from working out -2 degrees Fahrenheit, my only conclusion is that the combination of hypothermia and exhaustion causes me to think up and write second grade fan fiction.
(Actually your formula is rock solid entertainment; if you replace cat girls with other types of threats, you can think of all sorts of movies and books that have gone with the basic framework you laid out.)

I've been keeping up with Avatea's thread for CCC for the past year and a half, ever since I stumbled upon it. If you like comics and good stories, and you're not keeping an eye on these, then you're really missing out. The "art direction" in some cases was an acquired taste. But I'm a big fan of these fan-made comics. I guess it's hard for you to know that if I never speak up about them or show my support.
Speaking of support, it would be nice if there was a way to donate money to the CoH Comic Index, as well as to individual authors. Most of these comics use the City of Heroes game engine, but artistry goes into the camera work, and the game engine certainly doesn't write all the amazing, creative, funny and dramatic stories I've read. Many of these stories have been exceptional labors of time and effort.
I would like to see more cross-pollination between fan-made comics and Architect Entertainment, because there's nothing like interacting with characters you've grown familiar with in another medium. Lots of interesting things could be done with this, such as having to play the series finale to see how a "print" story arc ends. Don't take this suggestion lightly. You can't do cool stuff like that with traditional comics!
I would also like to see people talking about comics they enjoyed. The Comic and Hero/Villain Culture forum is exactly for this purpose. I'm not suggesting that comic authors should be allowed to saturate it with advertisements. But if I enjoyed a CCC comic, there's no reason why I, as a reader, shouldn't open a new thread to tell other people about it, beg an author for loose ends, complain, compliment, and so on. -

Quote:She tends to be right. It's actually funny because I'm not around the forums a ton (excluding the past couple days), and when I'm reading for new developments, I sometimes search GG's posts along with dev posts. You mean two parts guesswork, two parts slight baiting and one part winking?

Quote:Do you think it's feasible that we could ever see an upgrade in that aspect? (I'm honestly asking, you seem to have your finger on the pulse regarding upcoming features and stuff.)I use it, but it doesn't really help with the base avatar model - which is what's used for spandex, as that's just a painted on texture - a lot of the old costume parts, as well as all the new ones have more curves, which hide the lack of curves on the base avatar model.

Quote:(Organic isn't used correctly, I know, I just mean human-like and not Lego-like<.< >.> actually I had wondered why my pics looked more blocky and others looked more 'organic'
going to look under options to see if I have it toggled)
Just a tip: Anti-aliasing can consume resources. Along with shadows it can be one of the worst offenders. But on its lowest (2x) setting, you will probably notice a significant improvement with a negligible performance impact, UNLESS you find yourself in an occasional zone event like the Praetorian invasion, during which even the highest-end computer users might be wise to disable it. At 4x anti-aliasing on my machine, things begin to look truly life-like (23" widescreen, 1920x1080 res), but I notice a slightly irritating performance hit. Looking forward to my next PC upgrade in three weeks, when this might no longer be a problem! -
I think stuff looks pretty organic with anti-aliasing, do you use that? (I know it may sound like a dumb question, but I've seen a lot of players post screenshots where you can tell they don't have anti-aliasing on.)

In all seriousness, this is a complaint I've heard frequently in game over the past two years (since I subscribed), and I was kind of bewildered the first time I noticed how ample the smallest allowed size is.

So does this mean we'll never get a crotch slider for guys?

Paragon Studios does respect its customers. This is an argument you should be taking up with over 75 years worth of comic book writers, artists, and publishers, not with Paragon Studios. It's not silly to request additional/broader themes in costume packs. But it is absolutely silly to request that Paragon Studios discontinue producing comic book genre-aligned costumes. And sometimes they have to make a choice.

Sup, Knight! Almost replied to you via PM, but this turned out to be more on-topic than my posts the day before yesterday.
First of all, I can say that honestly (I'm not sure I was fully conscious of this earlier), there was very much an agenda fueling my posts upstream.
Want to know why I was uncharacteristically brash? Here it is: I'm as passionate a fan of the comic book genre as I am about City of X; and to me, City of X finely distills that genre in the form of an interactive game--so much so, in fact, that in my mind there is little distinction between comic books and City of X, beyond its medium. Many people share my feelings, and many don't, but I know for a fact that I'm standing on the bulls-eye among Paragon Studio's target audience.
What this means is that I want City of X to share MORE similarities with the comic book genre with every update, not fewer similarities. David Nakayama's Gender Equality brainstorming thread has partly put me at ease, because it's clear in his comments (and especially in his work) that he is very interested in developing "a comic book inserted into an MMO", as War Witch describes it. That dismays some in the audience, but to me that description is AWESOME because I'm on the same page.
But what I hear a lot of people saying, roundabout as well as literally, is that the comic books are wrong, and that City of X should avoid following in the genre's tracks. People are asking Nakayama do to this for them. That sounds like a bad idea to me. It will make City of X less like the comic books, and more like some other kind of MMORPG. However, I do realize this leads to a problem, one that you quite accurately illustrated:
Quote:I grew up on Star Trek, was taught to value the scientific method over zealotry or prejudice, was raised around some headstrong women. The reason I want to keep typically female pieces in production isn't for the sake of veiled misogyny, or keeping our female characters in as little clothing as possible. Contrary to what I may sound like, I badly want to see male to female conversions. It would satisfy the part of me that is proud to be a member of the 21st Century and completely agrees with your summary above. But... NOT at the expense of uniquely female styles that are a staple of the comic book genre. Not at the expense of City of X's proven, award-winning artistic direction. Wherever Paragon Studios is forced to choose, I am firmly on their side, such as it has been. I want it to remain steeped in the comic books. I never want PC Gamer or the Comic Vine to revisit City of X and snicker for all the world to hear, "City of...what is this I don't even"It just rings of something that I think many members of this community can relate to... girls who want to play outside with footballs or robot toys or GI Joes, but get handed a Barbie Doll and told to go inside.
When people in this thread are using terms like "whorrific" and "sexually available" to describe costumes, I don't think it's a far stretch to perceive cheap shots being taken at the players who want to buy and wear them. It's not cool. But this is probably largely about perception. I recognize that. No biggie. I really (really) don't want to think too much about this. It doesn't relate to development directly and earlier in the thread I allowed it to distract me from the topic.
