Two Jacks inside half an hour. Who ordered the exceedingly large tub of jam?

[/ QUOTE ]

That would be me.

I told you I've never had to wait a huge amount of time grinding for Jack, but would you believe me? nooooooo... :P
2. Nah, there were no more Jacks after the initial two.

Was a rather nice surprise nonetheless when that Jack spawned right on our heads after smacking Eochai
3. [ QUOTE ]

That epitome of evil, the sinister, brutish Seethe (Level 50 Fire/DA Brute) is proposing to lead a raid against the last few giant monsters left in the Rogue Isles tomorrow (31st October) before they mysteriously disappear the following day. Eochai and Jack in Irons (plus their Unseelie courts) are the targets.

[/ QUOTE ]

Given that I know exactly how squishy Seethe is, I'll bring some backup along for you

Got 'em all on Toybox, so it'll most likely be Raffles.
4. [ QUOTE ]
The tohit debuff is very small in Smoke.....5% iirc so neglible at best.
Handy for semi stealthing though.

[/ QUOTE ]

Like I said. I was Fire/FF on my controller, and an additional 5% on top of Deflection Shield/Insulation Shield and Dispersion Bubble is NOT inconsequential. The more defence you have, the more difference another few percent will make.

Personally I love smoke. It's stopped teams I've been on from grabbing extra aggro if I spot potential trouble nearby and smoke them. It combines well with FF, and frankly, makes my life easier all round

YMMV, of course.
5. [ QUOTE ]
That's what I thought. Thanks MaX.

[/ QUOTE ]

So far as I know, the slow is an autohit, but the damage ticks require to hit checks.

This is going from using it against MoG'd PP's. I can't hit them at all for damage ticks, but they can't run away very fast...

Also, regarding Smoke, and the first reply in the thread. Take it, slot it, love it. A ToHit Debuff = a defence buff to your side, which is always useful, and it lets you get in close to use Cinders with minimal trouble.

Combine Smoke with a FF secondary and you can give a not inconsequential survival boost to your team/imps. To the extent that I rarely, if ever have to resummon my imps unless I forgot to bubble them.

:edit: got buff and debuff confused...
6. I'd just like to add something to this thread.

The major rule for the TS server is - Play Nice.

There have been several instances recently of people deciding to play silly buggers on the server. Playing the login/logout game and doing other generally unsociable things.

Doing this sort of stuff will get you a variety of responses, depending on who's also on the server.

If there's anyone on the server with SA next to their name and you're playing silly buggers, expect to be kicked.

If you keep playing silly buggers, expect to get an IP ban.

And if *certain* Admins are online and respond first, expect to get an earful of verbal and THEN the Kick/Ban.

I'm not talking about being in a private channel and having a laugh with your friends over comms. But if you come into an already occupied channel and start making a nuisance of yourself, that's unsociable. If you keep logging out and back in, thus spamming 'new player' and 'player left' announcements to those people who have them enabled, that's unsociable.

So, in closing. Don't annoy the locals, and play nice.
7. [ QUOTE ]
It was good to dust off Illumina for a change. Looking at all the 50's that turned up it just goes to show that all we need to play our toon's is a good excuse !

[/ QUOTE ]

I regularly bring Heat Haze out to play. Something to do with being my all round most useful character. Forcefields are stupendously useful in the post 40 game... Something to do with the end drain resistance tacked on to Insulation Field

Plus, the three little psychos are always fun to watch, as they groin the opposition to death with their little burny claws o' doom

HOW THE HELL AM I MEANT TO GO TO SLEEP AFTER THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111111!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Lie down on your bed with the lights turned off, close your eyes, and watch the internal replays until you aren't awake any more.

<shrug> well, it's worth a shot

I do sympathise though, I had a similar problem after Bight et al hit 50

10. Looks like I get the 'First screenshot posted of the aftermath' award

Here be link.

I've got a demorecord of the 10 second duration Tyrant bashing and subsequent firewrks, but haven't had a chance to check it yet. I'll post it later.

:edit: link to .cohdemo download here. Rapidshare download, figure it out yourself.

Unfortunately, I only started the demorecord when tyrant was on about 80% health, so the actual fight's not too long, which I suppose is a good thing for those of you with short attention spans :/edit:
11. [ QUOTE ]
Hey Guys and Gals,

Tomorrow night at 8.30 PM the following 6 Precision Rangers will fighting Tyrant together for a simaultaneous Level 50 ding and all who know of the guys involved are welsome to join in! We are going to try and put as many teams into the mission as it takes to get all our friends in, and as between us we know alot of you it may take a while! But we don't mind!

The guys taking part are:

Frozen Rogue
PowerSWAT (Drain Brain)
Terra Byte
Chillblaze
Cinnamon Brandy (Toerag)
Stainless Steel (Roentgen Storm

It's all of our first 50s so we're really looking foward to it! We're meeting at Portal corps at the aforementioned time and will stick around until we're bored with mucking about with squids!

So like I said, any and all who are interested are welcome!

Hope to see you there!

Frogue

[/ QUOTE ]

Only 6 of you? Amateurs...

Good luck with it though, and if I'm on, I'll drag someone along.

Are the extra teams going to be there for assistance or purely for moral support?

'Cos if you want external support, I'll happily annoy the hell out of tyrant while you pound him. Assuming I'm on, like I said
12. [ QUOTE ]
I'd say sonic is better for teams, while FF is better for solo.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ummm. No?

FF has one Major trick up its sleeve that, especially in the late game, makes it almost invaluable on teams.

Insulation Shield gives end drain resistance.

If you have ANYTHING to do with Malta or Carnies or blue Praetorian robots, then those three little words in the power description "Res (End Drain)" mean more to you than any three empaths could (IMO)

One Forcefielder and a source of healing will mitigate more damage, as far as I'm concerned, than a Sonic replacing the FF would.

Plus, Sonic dispersion's not as good as Dispersion bubble, on the grounds that if you get hit less, then that's effectively additional mez protection to add to that provided by the bubble, while getting hurt less is only really useful to someone with significant mez protection to avoid the nasty side effects.

This, however is all from my experience of playing a /FF controller to 50 and having tanked alongside a /Sonic controller to 50.

Don't get me wrong, Sonic has some nice tricks up its sleeve, a FF has a few 'Meh' Powers, but blanket statements like that above just don't sit right with me.
13. [ QUOTE ]
Yay!!!!!!

Gratz dude, and the moment was captured in all it's sparkly glory

LOOKY SEE

[/ QUOTE ]

And in less than 3000 hours of play, no less

Congrats Jest.
14. [ QUOTE ]
Gratulations! That must have taken a fair bit of organising. Well done

[/ QUOTE ]

Not so much organising as me bullying people over teamspeak

General principle was to get everyone to roughly 49.5, and then have them alt to a 50 or their toon of choice to drag the rest of the mob along.

Once everyone was parked at 49.5 (give or take 1/2 of a bar) then the fine tuning started, going through missions, keeping an eye on exact 'XP to next level' figures. Again, with people dropping from team and alting as they all approached the same number (I think we parked again at 120k tnl). there was some strategic use of debt as a braking mechanism on the people closest to 50, and Claw very nearly spoiled it all by planting a couple of times by accident... Or at least he claimed it was by accident

Then we went into the final mission, the Vertical Factory map with Siege at the top.

Bridged a couple of people in who wanted to watch, and used the mobs at the bottom of the tower to get everyone to about 90k tnl. To do this we had two teams in the mission, with people dropping from the main team as they hit the appropriate point, and the mission owner going to 50-60k tnl, in case he didn't get the mission bonus immediately when siege fell over.

These numbers were best guesses based on expected AV and mission bonus combined xp and a little bit of leeway to factor in the mobs around the AV.

The main team reformed, and the two spectators went around grabbing glowies etc., leaving just the AV to beat up to finish the mission.

All went to the top of the map, sighted on Siege, and let rip, with the results above

And My Brain Hurt(TM) by the end, trying to figure out how to juggle teams and members around to aim for the simultaneous ding.

And happily, I got lucky with my guesses and Lo! The fireworks were most impressive

So in short, yes, it took a lot of organising
15. [ QUOTE ]
I dont think Glowies give XP anymore. So i think the next ine should be an 8 man team dinging from an exploration badge, preferrably Heart of the Hammidon.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sounds like a use for group teleport to me

Of course we'd need a marker on the badge, and a lot of faffing around with xp levels before going in for it...

Or time it just after the mythical beast that is a successful hami raid so there's no goo in the way.

So, mechanistically, there's no major issue with that plan, but realisitcally...
16. [ QUOTE ]
/macro AA "petcompow thugs attack agressive$$petcompow enforcers attack agressive$$ petcompow brusier goto aggressive"

[/ QUOTE ]

You had a couple of typos, Brusier rather than Bruiser, and agressive rather than aggressive but it may work. Oh, and I'd remove that space after the $$ before the final petcompow, just in case, and to keep the syntax consistent.

Offhand, I can't remember whether you can issue multiple commands like that or whther the game considers them like powers, and you can only issue one per macro...
17. [ QUOTE ]
Can I jusk ask why though???

[/ QUOTE ]

Umm, because after a few, just randomly hitting 50 seems a bit of a letdown?

It's always nice to make some sort of event of the occasion, since it doesn't happen very often.

Also, because I was idiot enough to sort of come up with the idea, suggest it, and stupid enough to park myself at 49.53 for the weekend and help push the others to the same point, which was fun in and of itself, TBH.
18. [ QUOTE ]
Check this out. here

i beleave this is the first.

[/ QUOTE ]

<pedant> 8 Thing Simultaneous Ding </pedant>

Well, if it's been done before, I've not heard of it.

And by god it took a lot of farting around to get it all sorted

Thanks to you lot for putting up with me trying to arrange this idiocy, and listening to me ramble as I tried to figure out how in hell to get everyone to the same point at the same time

so, grats to (in no particular order):

Adamantium Claw (Elec/Elec/Elec Suicidal loon PBAoE Blaster thing)

Bight (Ice/Ice/Arctic Squishytank(tm) and greedy holder of aggro. It's mine, all MINE! )

Tick Tock (Inv/SS/Energy Tanker and screen shaker)

Velisha (Empathy/Rad/Power Defender, and official keeper aliver for Mr. Adamantium, "debt badges? I want 'em all before 50" Claw)

Krait (Warshade, and purveyor of knockback to the discerning tank)

Sarah Jenkins (Kinetics/Archery/Psionic Purveyor of Speed Boost Crack and Fulcrum Shifty Goodness to anyone who asks)

Frozen Chorus (Ice/Sonic/Primal Uncontroller )

G.I (AR/Energy/Munitions Blaster, and full on hyperactive Full Auto junkie.)

So, thanks from the long suffering Ice tank to the rest of the usual mob, for flattening stuff quick enough that it couldn't flatten me first, and thanks to the Defenders who suddenly appeared for the last 4 levels confusing me by supplying green numbers when I'd been unaware that they could come from an outside source

Next time 50 ding? God alone knows. We've done it in the cape mission, and we've done 8 at once. I'm running out of ideas...

/macro DN "Say Please Don't attack $target, he's the anchor for darkest night, and attacking him will highly increase your risk of dying$$Powexec_name Darkest Night"

[/ QUOTE ]

Given that he wanted it to appear in team chat, then it should really be:

/macro DN "team Please Don't attack $target, he's the anchor for darkest night, and attacking him will highly increase your risk of dying$$Powexec_name Darkest Night"

neh?

But other than that, it'll work fine.

Otherwise, you risk telling everyone on coalition/your currently active global channel that you're about to debuff that Chief Mentalist over there, and that just leads to sarcasm over whatever channel you just mistakenly spammed...
20. [ QUOTE ]
The blinding aspect, though, can be very handy. Cast it on a mob (it's autohit, and non-aggroing) to affect his entire group, then walk right past them.

[/ QUOTE ]

Until you get to level 32, and try that trick with Fire Imps in tow....

[ QUOTE ]
Or, if you're in a full room and think there's danger of the meleers aggroing a second group while they finish off the first, Smoke the extras to stop them noticing anything.

[/ QUOTE ]

Reducing the risk of additional aggro is one of the main uses of Smoke, but I slap it on mobs as much as I posibly can, any accuracy debuff is better than none, and combined with my FF secondary, it's a nice little complement, thank you very much
21. [ QUOTE ]
I managed it. It took me all day but I managed to trace where the data is going. It’s routed through an IP address in Australia and being beamed back to Crey labs using satalite.

But, we have two locations where the data is being held. We’re going to need some help for this. Melissa and I have made up now. This is too much fun to miss out on ‘cause we’re arguing.

Neil Vorpel and Natasha Dark said they would check out the lab in Founders Falls. We should hear back from them soon. In the mean time Little Ms and I are going to Kings Row where we heard the Crey are archiving the files. Lets see if we can destroy it.

I’ll let you know what happens later.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just one thought.

Posting your plans in advance on a publicly readable forum?

Not the best of moves if you want your targets to still be unaware of your intentions...

It might be worth changing this to 'After Action Reports', as it were, if only to make sure you can continue to make entries...

It's always wise to be cautious when dealing with Crey. They have significant resources at their disposal, not all of them armed and in the field.
22. Canine

Meh, why not?

[ QUOTE ]
Yup, free hand with a trackerball, and thanks

[/ QUOTE ]

With a Trackball?!? o_O

Someone buy this person a decent input device like a tablet so we can see aht they can do properly :P

Nice work
23. [ QUOTE ]
but a good Tank is helpful for getting plenty enemies into AoE range too and makes a great combo.

[/ QUOTE ]

Then it's a shame you're pretty much stuck with me tanking atm then, isn't it?

Speaking as the usual designated aggro anchor for the above mentioned PBAoE nightmare, I'd like to say a couple of things.

1) Nemesis are nasty opposition. Vengeance. Stacking Vengeance, at that, and lots of AoE's aimed at the tank mean that standing next to said tank is not particularly the safest place to be. Alos, on an 8 man team, especially on outdoor maps, the risk of aggro cascades is high, if the idiot voltaic sentinel, or one of the even more idiot blasters isn't careful about watching their fire.

2) If you're going to try and tank for a build such as is being discussed, then make sure you can solidly hold aggro.

Teatime, I'm off :

archery build

I took Flight on my level 21 Archery/EM Blaster.

I'm going for a pretty much pure ranged build, so Hover and flight are very useful for getting room to work.

I've got all the primary powers I could take so far, apart from Exmplosive arrow, and I will probbaly end up with all of them.

From the secondary, I'm skipping most of the blapping stuff and going for utility powers. Power Boost, Aim, Stunning Shot should be amusing

And Aim, Buildup, Ranged Shot, Blazing Arrow can two shot even level Lieutenants, on DO's

But frankly, my build philosophy is : Take whatever power looks shiniest when you're training. But don't forget to plan ahead if you want travel powers or Stamina etc.

One thing to bear in mind with archery. Use Build Up, THEN Aim, as Aim draws your bow for you automatically, and Build Up doesn't.
25. [ QUOTE ]
One thing to look at is the secondary buffs.

Tactics : De-Stealth Buff

[/ QUOTE ]

Level 38ish + Arachnos missions brings the perception buff from Tactics into a whole new light, when you start facing Night Widows and getting Smoke Grenaded.

The first time you get utterly hammered by Arachnos troops that you could otherwise walk over because you can't actually see them is the time you realise the valuse of Tactics.

Personally, I run Assault and Tactic on my MM (level 46).
