Monday was a fun evening, we had even a new Trapper join us which was cool.
Also, finished off Hardcase's missions (no more Wailers yaaaay!!) which means it's probably paper missions next week and until one of us hits lvl 40 and we can emigrate. Which should be 1-2 weeks at most, so not bad at all really!
[/ QUOTE ]
You didn't like Wailers?
Ookayyy... Relatively squishy magic salvage dropping beasties. What's not to like? Apart from the AV (who I named Bob, for reasons that should be partially obvious), and the resistance debuffs (which shouldn't be affecting you anyway, if you're stood in stacked FFG's, since they won't be hitting 95% of the time)
Or am I just weird?
Besides, if you've not done Johnny Sonata yet, there're more wailers in your future :P -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, the OP specifically asked if it was possible to drop one more power from DB or WP without crippling his brute.
In my opinion saying that he can drop either Nimble Slash or Blinding Feint (or both) and that he may very well increase his dps output in the process answers this question just nicely while stating that there is also the option of going with no travel power and less dps might be nice for you but does less so.
Now, if you just wanted to add a comment about the versatility and fun challenge of playing DB you are getting no argument from me. It's one beautiful set.
[/ QUOTE ]
And yet, I'm of the opinion that keeping Nimble Slash and Blinding Feint doesn't diminish your DPS.
And that's all it comes down to. Opinions.
I could post my Katana/Regen scrappers build and cause people to wince (no Reconstruction being only one oddity about it). But it works for me and my playstyle, and has done for the last 28 months or thereabouts, so why should I worry?
My Archery/EM/Elec build caused people to visibly wince when I posted it to some other boards. Yet, now that Defrankenfuryance 2.1 and the archery rebalancing have arrived, he can dish out ludicrous amounts of damage.
And besides, removing half your Combo's from a set, the 'set bonus' of which IS combo's seems a little counter intuitive.
Oh, and if you notice, I DID say that I was planning on skipping Confront and Resurgence on my DB/WP. Although that plan is subject to change upon reaching the trainer and thinking 'ooh, that looks shiny, what the hell' -
[ QUOTE ]
At L32 I have all 4 combos, all willpower powers available so far, and stamina.... oh and a jingle jet
[/ QUOTE ]
Likewise (on a scrapper though).
10 Candy Canes and you can put off worrying about travel powers until about level 41.
10 Candy Canes and the GvE Jump Pack and you get all the above and 30 seconds of pretty much speed capped flight.
And even if the Jingle Jet runs out of fuel, I've still got the Safeguard temps and my last toon's experience of not taking a travel power until 41 (teleport, on my Stone/Fire scranker). It's surprising how far you can stretch the Raptor pack by using it as a parachute to cushion long drops or to get up walls you'd otherwise have to go round. Did 41 levels of Swift, Sprint, temp power travelling. It's not hard.
DB/WP powers I'm skipping are Confront and Resurgence.
So I'm not going to end up an 'optimal dps' build? So what. I'm enjoying the technical challenge of juggling the demands of attack chain versus combo versus mob type.
For me thus far, DB is requiring FAR more thought to use well than Katana ever did. -
I'll have to see about exemping Toybox one of these weeks.
Mind you, he's more Robotics than Traps...
And doesn't tend to go in for the whole 'Mass of traps at a choke point' thing unless the situation *really* calls for it...
Tend to spend all my time lobbing Web Grenades around and pointing out juicy targets for the pets.
Oh, and hoping against hope for the Magical Endurance Fairy to pay him a visit. Which never happens. -
[ QUOTE ]
(although realistically what Ice Tanker needs extra help locking down aggro?)
[/ QUOTE ]
Mine?
But that's because I tend to team with a mildly suicidal PBAoE Elec/Elec/Elec Blaster, and need all the aggro I can get to keep him vaguely upright
To be honest, the main reason I'm slightly irritated by this is that it removes options. Options that only recently arrived, at that.
Plus, I've got two tanks, built in almost diametrically opposed directions. There's my Ice/Ice/Arctic, built to hold onto aggro like it was a shiny thing and not let anyone else have any, and to survive while doing it. And then there's my Stone/Fire/Energy Scranker, built to trundle around in his various armours (Granite there purely as a panic button), with enough aggro and survival to get a load of mobs around him, and then AoE them into oblivion.
Both work for me, and have their own playstyles, and mean that there are guaranteed to be any number of variants on building a tanker, most of which could potentially benefit from another option in slotting IO sets.
Then there's the conceptual aggravation. A Taunt Aura not taking Taunt IO sets?!? Double You Tee Eff, Mate?
Anyway, the main reason I posted was that I hadn't seen this mentioned on these boards. And the minor rantette was a free bonus -
[ QUOTE ]
Why post it 2 times? :S
[/ QUOTE ]
Because the boards were playing up and it didn't appear to have posted first time round. Plus I had to go off and do some work, and by the time I got back and tried again (from my POV) I'd forgotten which board I was trying to post to. -
Don't be silly....
<sigh>
Probably a good job that I hadn't started slotting my tanks up, but that's a bit of a pain in the [censored]. Perfectly good slots that I can't use to get Taunt set bonuses from.
Whiffs a little bit of the whole 'Well, we can't get TF souvenirs working properly, so we're just removing them from the TF's' debacle from a couple of years back that still rankles.
Hohum... At least we won't have tanks running into Tsoo Ink men or KoA/Malta Flashbangs 'pre-stunned'... Not much of a bright side though. (spot the pessimist)
I'm hpoing it'll be temporary until they fix it, but I'm not holding out any major hope on that front (see previous comment about pessimism) -

uhm... arent all the AH's linked? Or is is seperate for BM and AH?
[/ QUOTE ]
All Hero AH's are linked.
All Villain AH's are linked.
Hero AH's are not linked to Villain AH's though. -
Made a Dual Kukri/Willpower Gurkha.
OK, Dual Falcata, if you insist...
Been 2 1/2 years since my first (and up to this point only) scrapper hit 50, and now that I've got one of each CoH AT to 50 (and 2 tanks) it's about time I went scrapping again. -

From the end of the description, can Thugs, Soldiers and Ninjas actually occasionally avoid being blown to bits? Or can someone describe for me what actually happens?I'll assume for Robots and Zombies, they just instantly blow up, but I'd like to know the effects it has on more sentient henchmen
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope, all pets that get detonator used on them snuff it.

That's off redtomax.com, notice the 100% silentkill.
Personally, I consider detonator to be a waste of a power pick, but some people might like it. -

It's Trapper Monday, from 7pm tonight!
EDIT: Tonight's also the start of the Halloween holday event. Shall we do a little trick or treating too?
[/ QUOTE ]
Go GM Hunting.
ToT'ing is rather dull as a trapper. (or at least as a Robotics/Traps MM)
Stand next to door, place Acid Mortar, Caltrops and Poison Trap as door timer/personal timer ticks down. Click door. Watch in amazement as any mobs that appear get ganked in 5 seconds flat. Repeat. Turn off higher function of brain, repeat until thoroughly bored and/or you have the last badge/shiny thing you were after.

From the days of being a Katana/Regen in I3/I4, when most defenders tended to be empaths.
From an Ill/Emp controller to an Emp/En defender on the team, about me after my HP bar had yoyo'd down and then straight back up again while in the Shadow Shards, IIRC:
"I've given up trying to heal him, by the time the heal's triggered, his HP's back up to full anyway."
That had something to do with Instant Healing being a toggle, and significantly higher regen than you can get these days.
I miss those days sometimes, being able to survive the front lines of a battle against ludicrous numbers of mobs, alongside an invuln tank back when they were tanker god mode. I'd have liked to have seen how some of my toons from after I5 would have coped in I3/4. (for a start they'd have no doubt had some very different builds) -
[ QUOTE ]
As I can't see "Cynicism, sarcasm and/or pessimism" in your post... I assume you are interested in being the 8th member?
[/ QUOTE ]
Sorry, nope.
Merely posting my experiences of an all defender team, and confirming that it's entirely viable.
I don't have the time to dedicate to a fixed evening/team.
And besides, I merely state that the above post *may* contain etc. etc. etc. no point tying myself down to a certain style of post :P
:edit: (and forgot to mention that this was a level 50 AV ganking team. Not sure I want to run another Defender up to 50 yet. Saving my last couple of character slots to see what, if any, interesting new powersets arrive in the next issue.) :/edit: -
Done all defender teams before.
Things melt. Fast.
Went out AV hunting one Saturday evening a while back with (I think) 6 defenders.
My Dark/Dark/Dark Offender
An empath or two
Kineticist or two
A Rad.
(can't remember the exact team makeup)
Not a Single AV lasted more than a couple of minutes.
Not a single team member dropped below 80% health.
It was frantic.
So yes, all defender teams work, spectacularly well. -
Those of us who took Dark Miasma won't be too keen, either.
"OK, Tar patch is down, they're feared and the anchor's on the.........
<insert gratuitous KB here>
<mutter, swear, curse> OK, so now they're nowhere near the Tar Patch, only a quarter of the mobs are being debuffed by Darkest Night and since the fear is still active, the scattered mobs aren't going to be coming back into debuff radius any time soon.
<facepalm>
<sigh>
<frantically scramble to try and salvage the situation>"
Once or twice in an evenings play having to scramble like a mad thing to rescue a situation from excess KB can be entertaining as far as such things go.
Every single thrice damned spawn? No thank you.
(as you may guess, I'm NOT a fan of KB) -

More to the point, I've never really played villain just didn't really like it, but i went on my level 15 MM today and i asked 7, yes 7 level 50's where i could go and respec, none of them told me, I made 100% sure they where not in groups so i would not be bothering them, I'm not sure if you took it to real but i thought that was just a bit wrong in my eyes.
Also to answer my question, where can i respec in COV.
[/ QUOTE ]
To use a respec at level 15, you just type /respec, since there's no way you could possibly have an earned respec you need to use.
To use an earned respec when you eventually get one, then there's an arbiter in Nerva Archipelago near the trainer that you need to talk to.
To start a respec trial, they're all in Nerva, and you're looking for a demon surrounded by Mu guardians. There are 3 of them, called Sparcetriel, Trepsarciel and Ractespriel. Look them up on cov.redtomax.com if you want locations, or alternately, just explore
Oh, and you get another respec when you complete your first patron arc. -

My Archery/Devices mostly uses pointy sticks and stands at the edge of range. Getting me into mellee aint gonna happen unless I'm slept, held or stunned.
[/ QUOTE ]
While I prefer AR over archery, this is also how my blaster operates. Especially since Lead's 'melee' attacks consist of tazer and brawl (okay, she also has some axe she found that works quite well on ghosts and a loan of an iron sword that works well on fairies)
[/ QUOTE ]
My Archery/EM/Elec has and entire two melee attacks.
Brawl, and Power Thrust. Because I couldn't avoid having them.
Hover out of melee range at the edges of Boost Range enhanced Rain Of Arrows range and watch as things fall over. Lots.
Yes, you have a secondary, but you don't have to play your toon in any way other than the way you want to. If anyone tells you otherwise, ignore them, with extreme prejudice.
(BTW, for anyone remotely interested, this should be a pic of my build as per just before 50. Can't remember where the slots went, but it was nothing earth shakingly important.) -

[ QUOTE ]
What level are you?
[/ QUOTE ]
32
[/ QUOTE ]
Fair enough.
It was the 'Might be a bit low now though' comment that confused me
I quite like the Slot Machine 'arc' (it's really rather short). Managed to get it unlocked on my Brute, even if one of the maps was horribly bugged making the mission incompletable (fixed now, it was the Oranbega 'trench' map tile with the hostage in the water, and no way for the hostage to get out of the water...) -
[ QUOTE ]
I got gangbuster badge if anyone wants to do the slot machine contact next week
Might be a bit low now though :S
[/ QUOTE ]
What level are you?
If you're past level 35 then having the badge means nothing. The Slot Machine won't talk to you.
I know this because I missed the slot machine on my MM, and it won't talk to me now, even though I've got the badge.
(unless, of course, they've changed it since I last tried.) -

where RoA is (iirc) target-AoE (like blizzard).
[/ QUOTE ]
Location Based AoE, not target based. -
[ QUOTE ]
Not sure if this is true for RoA (don't think it does) but full auto has a chance to do critical damage which is a nice bonus and makes up for the long animation (which looks better then RoA). If have an immob power and slot its duration ignite becomes a lot easier to spam and use on bosses.
[/ QUOTE ]
No crits with Rain of Arrows.
However... (and I've only got one blaster, Archery/Em, so I can't talk for the AR fans out there)
When an Invuln/SS Tank and Archery/EM blaster can duo 6-7 man spawns while bored waiting for the rest ofthe team to catch up/get back from bio etc, then there's nothing wrong with Archery's damage output. (and yes, I frequently used to end up doing this with my regular tank)
Build Up -> Aim -> Rain of Arrows -> Explosive arrow -> Fistful Of Arrows
The spawn would be down to just the hardiest or luckiest members by that point.
Carry on with the remaining couple of mobs - -> Blazing Arrow -> Ranged Shot -> Aimed Shot -> Whatever you've got left and/or recharged.
And, IMO, Rain of Arrows scores over Full Auto by the fact that You're immobile for the initial animation, but when the damage starts rolling in, you can be heading at Mach 3 for the hills, if you need to
It's just a shame that Herostats doesn't track Rain of Arrows' damage output
However
Solo, you'll find the animation times a killer. All those wonderful looking animations take time. During which the mobs are trying their hardest to show you what your spleen looks like.
(BTW, I played Fitz as a pure ranged blaster. The only melee attacks I have are Power Thrust (which always sounds mildly obscene, but we'll skip that) and Brawl. Mixing some of the /Dev Blaster's control in there could help, but that's down to the skill of the player)

id like people who have tankers preferably to play scrappers and I dunno some people never go into anyother forum bit ^^
Reason being, if we hit a wall then someone may have tanking/gaming exp, i dont have to get over that wall.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah maybe, but the thread as posted has 2/3rds of naff all to do with tankers. Ergo, the Tanker board is the wrong place to post it. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yeah..I am thinking about it and no I dont think its impossible, would need people today probably from Union.
You may learn something nice.
[/ QUOTE ]
But is the Tanker forum really the best place to post this? Surely Union-Heroes would be a better location? -
My current tank is built entirely around herds.
A Stone/Fire Scranker who's going to take Granite purely as a panic button, (just to prove to myself that stone tanks don't need to spend all their time in Granite towing a pet kineticist along). Currently level 30 and I plod around solo quite a lot.
So, armours on as appropriate to the opposition, Mudpots running, fire up Rooted as I approach the first Tenacious spawn, and then plod onward until I've got as many as I think I can survive. Find a corner, get them packed tightly, and let loose with the AoE's (Breath of Fire can do an astounding amount of damage once you get used to it)
What can I say. It's working for me atm.
Can I 'chaos tank'? Yep. Been there, done that with my Ice/Ice. (BTW, Chaos tanking is my term for charging into the middle of the mob and hoping to grab enough aggro before the rest of the team piles in. Not meant in a derogatory manner, before anyone takes umbrage at the term)
When there's enough damage output available on the team, then I would merrily just dive into a spawn and hold aggro while they get hit from behind. When I'm teamed with a lot of AoE damage output, then I herd. Nothing brings a smile to a Elec/Fire or Elec/Elec blaster's face like 16 or so mobs stood round waiting to be hurt.
Is herding tedious if you're not the one running round almost invulnerable forcing 16 mobs to do your bidding? It can be. Is it safer? Sometimes.
<shrug>
