Welcome aboard. Edited my last post to include you in the roster.
[/ QUOTE ]
That reminds me, since Lifeline doesn't *do* boards....
His Ice/Dark tanker's called 'Abyssal Chill'. -
[ QUOTE ]
ME ! ME ! ME ! Pick Me !
Hey, Echo. Sign me up.
[/ QUOTE ]
You might want to mention Character Name, AT, Powersets, level if not starting from level 1... you know, unimportant stuff like that -
[ QUOTE ]
Wat lvl do you think you guys will get too on the first day so when we meet up on the 09/06 i can have the same
[/ QUOTE ]
Could be anywhere between 6 and 12, depending on how things go.
Your best bet would be to check this thread after the first evening, and see what the average level people are reporting is, then you've got a week to catch up and be in the right region. -
[ QUOTE ]
Hehe Canine... you crazy badger. Nice idea.
[/ QUOTE ]
Objection Yeronner!
I'm not the crazy badger, that's him over there <points at Lifeline>.
Like I said, I was bored (but busy) at work and my brain wandered off, and remembered the Nemesis weather control mission badge (Meteorologist). The rest followed on from that.
Besides, it'd be sort of nice to eventually have everyone with a cold/storm themed badge title. -
So, I was doing fairly monotonous tasks at work today, and as usual, my mind started wandering while the Cerebellum got on with the work.
Badges we should aim for:
Shrouded. (tenuous, but lots of pbaoe stealth with Arctic Fog/Steamy Mist)
Foggy
Chaotician (mildly tenuous link, but think Butterfly effect)
Meteorologist
The next lot need to wait for the winter event:
Frosty
Crystallized (yuck, US spelling)
[u]Cold Front (Yeah, like I'd miss this one out)[u]
Cold Warrior
Frozen Fury
Weatherman/Weathergirl
annd, that's about it for the immediately relevant ones. -
Aerial Deceiver, level 2 Illusion/Storm Controller fresh out of Outbreak, sat in Atlas.
Another female controller, but I think I've got enough male toons to be going on with for now.
And the 'Beginners Luck' low level tohit buff that came in with I12 makes life sooooooo much easier. Just don't forget to slot for accuracy before you outlevel it. -
For those people who haven't necessarily read, memorised and internalised the entire thread, it may be worth restating this.
<ul type="square">
[*]This team is not starting up until after I12 has gone live.
[*]The Global channel setup is preparation work for when it does start .
[*]To get an invite to the Global channel, send a global tell to @Li Sensei, @Lifeline or @Blind Minotaur. And ask nicely
[*]If you don't have any free Global Channel slots, don't panic, the max Global channel limit is being raised to 10 in I12.
[*]If you don't have any character slots free, don't panic, more slots are coming with I12 (2 free for everyone, one free per full year of veterans reward and you can buy more using the NCSoft shop after I12 goes live, up to a maximum of 36 slots per server)
[*]The current planned play slot is Monday Evenings from about 7pm to 10pm (UK time, whatever that happens to be at the time, GMT/BST)
[*]There is not going to be an official team SG.
[*]There's nothing stopping people making their own themed SG.
[*]This is not going to be a full blown serious 'Superteam' as per the US Boards/Servers, they tend to be more limiting in terms of what powers/sets you take.
[*]Qualifying sets are Storm Summoning (Defender or Controller), Cold Domination (Defender), Ice Blast (Defender or Blaster), Ice Control, Ice Manipulation (Blaster Secondary), Ice Armour (Tanker) or Ice Melee (Tanker)
[*]So long as you have one of the qualifying sets, you can pick whatever you want for the other.
[*]You can take whatever Pools you want. (but you may want, as usual, to give serious thought to Fitness, with Toggles to run in a lot of the qualifying sets)
[*]We will be starting from level 1. So long as you don't mind exemping, then higher level toons should be OK (I think, Echo?)
[*]I've probably missed something.

Sorry Tundra, it's unlikely I will expand on the given options at this point. (I did briefly consider allowing a Warshade or two, too.)
[/ QUOTE ]
How about if blasters that take the Zappy Zappy route into the storm theme promise to be good little damage monsters and pick the Cold Mastery APP at level 41? :P
(OK, now I'm stretching a bit..) -

You've got me in there twice. I'm NOT going to be tanking. I've already got an Ice/Ice/Arctic tank that I'm quite happy with, thank you very muchI'm going Illusion/Storm with this.
Regarding the SG aspect, Echo's already stated that this is intended to be a more 'casual' team, and I know that I for one will be using my usual SG's to get the early benefit of the base transport links. (well, that and because all of my heroes are in those two related SG's) the global channel is intended to be the main 'touchstone'/comms hub for the team IIRC.
Of course, I don't see any reason why other people who are so inclined can't start their own themed SG when they hit level 10.
[ QUOTE ]
So as we have so many people interested I propose a sewer run for the first session or two. Will allow all the teams to play together and with our global channel it could be great fun. I've never done a sewer run before so new and exciting stuff. We could then move onto the redesigned Hollows!
[/ QUOTE ]
<cough> Insert Kings Row Safeguard between sewers and Hollows. </cough>
[ QUOTE ]
Hardly speculation though is it - you've already seen it in action (albeit with Stone Cages rather than Frostbite). Ice Slick isn't going to work well with Stormies around anyway IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was trying to be moderately subtle about it :P And I never really saw much of Days going into full blown chaos mode since we both spent a fair amount of time solo working on those toons, and you were relatively restrained when teamed
[ QUOTE ]
Anyway, now that I'm here... most likely wouldn't be able to commit to a regular night in any case, but just out of curiosity would you guys consider stretching the concept to allow Electric Blast as well? Seems to fit with the whole stormy weather idea (and I was already planning an I12 Elec/Mind blaster...)
[/ QUOTE ]
And there was me thinking you may pick up Maxwell again if Elec was permitted. From what Echo said last night, the lack of any slow in Elec blast is the current disqualifier on it being a 'permitted' set.
(this is my sixth attempt at posting this. The boards appeared to be more than a little knackered earlier while I was at work. Either that or it was an overzealous firewall....) -
[ QUOTE ]
This is what it takes to drag me back to the forums....
I'm definitely looking at ice/dark tankage and its good to see a couple of concepts/build I've already done are gonna be in the team (Ill/Storm and ice/kin ) so I get to see them from the outside this time.
I get the impression Li/Canine has some revenge plans with regards to a small amount of knockback I might have inflicted when he's tanked alongside me on two runs to 50....
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not so sure I'm allowed much revenge, given the trouble I give you when you're on Kinetics and I'm doing damage(and there's soooo much revenge coming my way if I ever have a brain failure and try Kinetics)
But I may occasionally slip and hit Gale or Tornado at 'inappropriate' moments.
Ah, which reminds me.
Those of you taking Ice Controllers.
'Normal' procedure with Ice Controllers (not that I ever tend to pay much attention to received wisdom on how to play powersets) is to take Ice Slick and not use Frostbite much as the -kb in it nullifies the damage mitigation provided by the Slicks Knockdown. I was thinking though...
Later on, when Tornadoes and Storm Clouds start popping up, it may be worth going more into the AoE Immob than the Slick, to give the swirling winds of doom static targets to shred.
Of course, I may be talking complete drivel.
:edit:
Regarding the channel. We've got until I12 goes live to see how many 'strangers' appear in the channel. I say wait and see how bad it gets. It's not like it'd be hard to make a new channel, except for finding a new name for it.
Like I say, I favour waiting for now, and leave the MoTD in channel as it is. It may well just resolve itself. -
[ QUOTE ]
My name is gone and now i need a new one my toon is a buy dying of cancer in a hospital and every nigth he is dreaming of being a super hero. he used to be cancer boy but is currently GenericHero9007 and that gives him bad dreams! if you have a good idea please tell me.
Thanks
[/ QUOTE ]
Remission?
Knowing AT/Powersets would help, too. -
[ QUOTE ]
Nobody's perfect.
[/ QUOTE ]
No no no...
What you SHOULD have claimed is that you were emulating the in game chaos that the team should cause by way of the global chat system, and that it was a performance art piece.
Of course, we'd then start calling you Yoko.
-
[ QUOTE ]
Cheers Li, that's a fine name for a chat channel.
Just to re-iterate, if you don't have space for another chat channel yet, more are coming with I12 so it shouldn't be a problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
Max Globule Channels you can join is going up to 10, is what Echo means.
And oh dear god.....
Remind me NEVER to give Echo channel op privs again...
Anyway, Mr Minotaur has op privs, as well as myself. I'm usually on from about 7:30pm until 10:00pm more or less. If you need an invite, just send me a global tell to the global in the post above, and I'll send an invite by return of post (as it were).
Anyone NOT planning on joining this theme team who finds themselves in the "Cold Front" Global channel, please read the MOTD in the channel and react as appropriate.
Later, all. -
Well, for what it's worth, there's now a Global channel set up.
I called it 'Cold Front' as that's my internal filing name for this team.
Anyone who still has a free global channel slot and wants into the channel, drop me a line in game '@Li Sensei'. -

The roster so far:
For ease of reference I'm putting everyone's powerset choices down in one place, along with the list of cadets. Of course this is far from final and you're still welcome to change your mind at any time.

Lifeline: Ice/Dark Tanker (last time I spoke to him)
MajikMan: A Troller or a Blaster...
Skills: Ice/Kin Troller or Kin/Ice Fender

Drakmarth: Psi/Ice or Ice/Mental Blaster or Storm/Ice Fender
Teathered_Heat: Ill/Storm or Plant/Storm Troller
MarquandDance: is an enigma
Moondog: Storm/Ice Fender, probably
Okton: Plant/Storm Troller, or maybe Cold/* Fender
Dr_Toerag: Appeared outta nowhere!!
Me: Ice/SS Tanker
*drools at the number of Stormies*

Sorry to see you're leaving so soon Knightly.I hope you enjoy your Psychic Platoon!
EDIT: It's a shame to see Bucky go as well.I'm not above a light PLing if you want to visit sometime to see how the team's coming along.
Welcome aboard Dr_Toerag. I hope you find a powerset that enthralls you!
[/ QUOTE ]
Put me down more firmly for Illusion/Storm. I've got a pretty damn competent lockdown controller already with Heat, I may as well go for an all out Pet Wrangler as my second one...
And on the costume front, can I just point out that if we get one or more Cold Domination Defenders, then it won't matter one iota what costume you're wearing... Everyone will look the same.......
And as regards Lifeline, I DID kick him in the direction of this thread. But you know what he's like with boards. I think he's still leaning toward Ice/Dark though. -
This just popped up on the US boards....
A little propitious really, as I was considering going Illusion/Storm or Earth/Storm controller, as I've not played a controller for a good couple of years.
Anyway, I'm still pondering options. -
[ QUOTE ]
Shortly after Issue 12 hits live (and all the new character slots have been handed out) I plan on hosting a new theme team on the Union server.
[/ QUOTE ]
As I've said already, I'd be interested. Subject of course, to I12 giving me some space for a new alt
Not going to be tanking, since I've done the whole Ice/Ice/Arctic thing. Other than that, I'll have to think more on what I WILL be taking. Possibly a controller, as it's been a couple of years since I ran a controller.
I'll try to remember to kick Lifeline in the direction of this thread, too. -
<mutters dire curses against unknown forces>
Apologies for the abrupt nature of my departure last night.
The whole street lost power and it still hadn't come back by 7:35 this morning when I left the house (at work, and this is the first chance I've had to get near a PC)
Hope you managed to put Valkyrie down regardless.
And I hope that if the cut was caused by some toerag trying to nick copper from the substation that the sod got a couple of Megawatts of Line voltage at somewhere between 11 and 400kV through his groin for his pains....
Of course it may just be a random equipment malfunction in the substation, but it soothes my need for revenge to contemplate a thieving git getting 3rd degree burns and shrapnel wounds from a hacksaw blade exploding.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread. -

Personally i'm surprised people are overlooking the make 3 small inspirations to a big one thing, for pvp. So say if a stalker buys loads of small red ones, makes them big... And has a full tray of them...
Oh hai Mr Tank!
although taking down an AV would be alot easier...
[/ QUOTE ]
No. No Tiering up.
What happens is you convert 3 tier x inspirations to one tier x inspiration of another flavour. NOT to one Tier x+1 inspiration of another flavour.
Pohsyb has stated explicitly that tiering up of insps is not happening. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well I logged in again for a laugh and managed about 3 minutes of sublime lag-free motion in GV before whatever's happening, happened again.
Thanks for the advice Canine, though I've not exatly been hard at it since I chatted to you last night - there is such a thing as going to work that got in the way. Early days yet, but that heatsink possibility scares me badly.
[/ QUOTE ]
Try and get a system monitor application running, and get it to log CPU temp, GPU temp and Voltage rails (+12, +5, +3.3 and Vcore).
Just thought about voltages. It's possible that the glitches are due to your PSU not quite being up to the job (among many other possible causes, I hasten to add). if you've got a duff PSU, then voltage spikes can cause a PC to fail randomly. If the drain from your GPU is dragging the 12V rail down too low, then hello, system instability.
Been there, done that. And PSU's are almost always one of the last things people check if they're having stability issues. Oh, and a new PSU does not guarantee a working PSU. I've had a brand new Tagan arrive broken. The replacement died after a month or so, and I've sworn never to touch a Tagan PSU with a barge pole ever again since something like 4 or 5 have been through this house and all have failed, but I digress.
This is why some sort of data logging system monitor application is so useful. But finding one is up to you, since I use the one that came with my motherboard, and it's seriously unlikely to work with your machine. -
[ QUOTE ]
I'm sure you could find a use for such an item on so many of your toons, Marq...
Due to a combination of a lovely graphics card, lousy teething problems and elbows deep in electrical innards, I may or may not be able to make it for the Trapper night tomorrow.
If I don't see you all, rest assured it's because I'm working as hard as I can to get my new PC sorted. Conversely if I do see you, it's because I'm slacking off and using my housemate's PC!
[/ QUOTE ]
If it's fighting you that much, then take it all apart, down to a bare chassis. Threaten all components thoroughly by looking at them meaningfully while holding a 2 1/2 lb lump hammer, then check all slots, connectors and so forth are clean and reassemble slowly and methodically. (Make damn sure that your RAM is well seated and that the CPU cooler is properly aligned and seated, using the appropriate amount of thermal compound)
Using a different machine, go online and grab all the newest drivers for your hardware from appropriate sites (including motherboard chipset drivers), see if there's an updated BIOS available on the motherboard manufacturers website, and drop 'em all on a USB stick.
Reinstall OS from scratch, install all new shiny drivers and Service packs/patches, install this, install that, spend 8 hours watching progress bars, then try booting the game up again.
And if it still doesn't work, it's time to start the chicken sacrifices to the god of hardware fault diagnosis. Which is a black art in and of itself - 25% logic, 50% intuition and 25% blind luck. -
Don't know if you lot have seen this yet.
US theme teams seem to go about things in a somewhat different way to what I've seen of similar things over here. (read the thread from the beginning) -

Want to level a tank? As said above, team. Play the game. Enjoy the ride.
[/ QUOTE ]
i take it you have a 50 or 2, didnt you want to level your first one quickly i know i did, it still took me 450hrs.
it always makes me smile when ppl say "enjoy the ride" the op is obviously enjoying the ride, he just likes faster ones!!
At least the op hasnt paid someone to level him and is asking for advice on how to speed up the process.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've got 10 50's at last count, not that it really counts for anything other than being able to reach into a bag of alts and pull one out to fit the situation, if a team stalls on something. (I've got one of each Hero AT (caveat, only a Warshade, no PB, I count WS and PB as the same AT - Kheldian) with enough diversity that I can bring out more or less anything required, from raw damage, to debuffs, to control, to buffs, to tanking.)
I haven't levelled like a frantic maniac on any of them (although the speed of levelling on my last scrapper was a little silly, but that was a combination of me not having scrapped seriously for about 2.5 years, getting into and enjoying playing the character, and double xp weekend for the last 4 levels).
My first 50 took something like 450 hours or thereabouts, IIRC. And I did my damnedest to do as many story arcs and read as much of the plot as possible. I've never been of the opinion that 50 is a destination you need to get to in as little time as possible. As I said above, enjoy the ride. Read the clues. Read the plotlines. Pay attention to WHY you're beating up several hundred mooks a day.
Also, I'm of the opinion that overly fast levelling doesn't give you the time to learn how to play your chosen AT/powersets. And the skillset required on a team is significantly different to that required solo.
Anything else is just a grind to me. And I don't like mindless grind.
But maybe I'm odd.
Anyway, I seem to have taken this thread off at a complete tangent. I'll depart, having said my piece (and probably a little more, besides) -
[ QUOTE ]
Now this is how would level a toon, there is no power leveling involved, just leveling as quickly as possible, doing it this way would proberly take you 120Hrs to get to 50, there are quicker ways...

And there are more exciting things to do than the 'quicker ways', I'd have thought. Like competitive toenail growing... or watching paint dry

Could I have some advice on blasters... I am new to the game and need adivce on the best kind of blaster builds. All advice is much appreciated.
Thanks...
[/ QUOTE ]
You're probably best off reading the Blaster Boards for a while, then asking more specific unanswered questions in there, I'd have thought.
And advice on Blaster builds varies a huge amount depending on powersets, playstyle, personal preference etc.
Personally, I always go with the 'Pick powersets you like the look/sound of, and when you pick a new power on levelling, pick whatever looks shiniest, not forgetting Stamina (if required) and/or a travel power'.
But then I'm weird, and don't plan my builds before I play them. (hence why my last scrapper finally got a travel power at 49)
