Yeah, with the mobs to-hit floored with Darkest Night, Fluffy, and Fearsome Stare, I see little need to build for defense.

Quote:Again, I disagree. I consider Mind to be just as good as Earth and Plant.Fair enough. I'm of the opinion that several other dom sets are top notch platinum, while mind is top notch gold.
Which if you adjust said scale where the platinum rating is the best then mind does indeed fall somewhere in the middle quality rating.
Taken in context my words were essentially that mind is middle of the pack, but that is still excellent. Just like how gold is still great, just not as good as platinum. -

Quote:I'd hardly call Mind a mediocre Dominator outside of RSF. It is a top notch Dominator in all situations.Meh sleeping AV's* is useful in all of one encounter and while it is likely the safest way to tackle it it is also one of the slowest. Most pugs I've done LRSF with have had no need to sleep them all anymore than most pugs need to pull romi away from the nictus. Which is to say you still see a fair number of teams relying on the method.
Not saying it doesn't work well, but unless you are specifically building a dom for MOLRSF runs (totally unnecessary for normal runs) then mind makes a pretty mediocre dominator compared to the other primaries.
Granted being a mediocre dominator is still pretty great, so if you like mind then go for it. -
Quote:I'm afraid you need to take a refresher course in English Comprehension then. And as stated previously I answered the only question that was actually asked.
You see, the question was in fact, a reference to the statement made previously. If someone asks you the question, "I am thinking of getting a new car, either Red, or Yellow. What do you think?"
You would not reply, "I think tacos". The "What do you think?" question is a question regarding the previously made statement. -
Stalkers are still obsolete, but thats not exactly a new thing.

I didn't take the Whip attacks on my Demons/Storm, so I rarely have endurance problems. This is where the majority of the end consumption comes from, and quite frankly, my Demons do enough damage that I don't really miss the attacks.
-
Quote:I don't got the Defense IO's yet in my Demons/Storm, but my results are similar. When I got Hurricane, it went from constantly spam healing my demons to only healing them possibly once or twice every mission.^
This
People have no clue just how powerfull this is. All you have to do is touch them once, then backoff and the -tohit still applies. Add to this the 2 Def IO's and SM / Maneuvers and even level minions are hitting your demons on a 5%
I cannot remember the last time I have had to use my piddly little heal since I use Hurricane 24/7 , they just cant hit my Demons.
Used correctly, Hurricane will make you more survivable then *any* other power available to Masterminds. -
Mind/Whatever.
Earth is all fine and dandy, but Mind brings something that no other Dominator brings. They can sleep Arch-Villains. With the Lord Recluse Strike Force, this is *huge*.
Furthermore, Mind is one of the cheapest sets to Permadom, thanks to the sleeps, fears and confuses. -
I have been experiencing this as well with my Rad/Traps corrupter, also in Preatoria.

Quote:You're hilarious.I am not as cool as Candlestick is, with his 10k posts and way of quoting every little point (perhaps so he doesnt forget what he is moaning about as he types) but I thought I would follow that age old saying of Treat people as you wish to be treated.
I agree with many of the points brought forward here, and disagree with just as many. However, given that the OP finished with this line..
Thanks for any tips, hints, or ideas
I just thought that maybe Candle ought to go back and edit out the sarcasm, flat out assertions, and automatically refuting of any suggestions contrary to his clearly superior play style. -
Quote:Your opinion is negated by mine, which holds more weight then yours, cause I have an earlier join date. Oh snap.I disagree and my opinion carries equal weight.
Well, gosh darn we're at an impasse, aren't we?
Static Field is the one I detest the most. The pulsing is the biggest eyesore. -
Thanks for rezzing this Negate. With the new Fury changes, I can see *very* little reason for not porting over Ice/Ice to brutes.
-
I don't understand why the first two posts in this thread are completely ignoring the OP's request....
Out of the 3 sets, Axe/WP Brute will meet your criteria the best. High damage, easy to level, easy to play, with large room for end game IO'ing out. -
/Sonic is a fantastic set, and I wish it was used more often. I love me some Sonic bubbles, as well as all the awesome -Resistance they throw out.

Quote:This was improved like.... 2 years ago. Archery has been top tier for quite some time now.Interesting...two identical disagreements with my statement. Definitely big enough to admit when I'm wrong and, admittedly, I shelved an archer a long time ago and eventually just deleted him. If things have changed, that's great and I'll likely give archery another shot. Last I experienced, the draw time was terrible, resulting in wasted endurance because of attacks going off as mobs were alive but the attacks were never quick enough to land before someone else had finished the deed. Has this changed, and has the damage improved?
(RoA was never included in the "archery is lacking" statement, btw. I just don't consider one really excellent power amongst a slew of 'meh' powers to make a set great) -
Quote:Should be noted that SS and SM are pretty much the same in overall end consumption. Rage Crash will cause a SS to burn through their blue bar just as fast as the SM's attacks.SS = Better AoE damage output through Foot Stomp, as well as Rage boost to damage sources in Secondary or from Pool attacks. Con: Rage crashes
SM = Much Better Mitigation with overall higher ST DPA attacks and slightly better ST DPS at both the SO level as well as the extreme top end.
Con: Extremely END heavy ST attacks -
Personally, I would say just slot powers that don't have sets that offer +Ranged defense with IO's that give +Recharge.
So slotting Fireball, RoF and Firebreath with Posi's for instance. Inferno with Oblits. Any defense power with LoTG+Recharge.
As long as you have a decent amount of +recharge from other powers(40-50 is a good amount), don't sacrifice your ranged defense.
::edit:: And I don't feel the damage bonus from Devastations to be worth it at all. -
Quote:lolwut?Yeah, this is just blatantly wrong. Trick arrow is a very, very good set that is simply entirely dependent on the primary and a late bloomer for corruptors. I will agree that A/TA isn't the best, but that's simply because archery is lacking, not the secondary.
Archery is one of the top tier sets in the game. Trick Arrow on the other hand, doesn't debuff as well as Dark, Traps, Rad or Storm, and has no self heal to compensate.
All other Debuff sets debuff better, with fewer powers, then Trick Arrow. The ONLY good thing Trick Arrow has is Oil Slick. -
My recommendation as well. Both Fire/Rad and Ill/Rad are pretty close in overall performance, so It's really just a matter of taste over which one you like better.
-
Well Elec control is fairly low on the damage, but Elec Assault has absolutely fantastic single target damage. The AoE on it is relatively low, but the Single target is on the same level as Fire and Energy.
-
It is a very frail set. You can somewhat mitigate this by building for S/L defense, but it will always be pretty frail.
On the other hand, It has absolutely insane damage.
/Fire is the Blaster of the Brutes. It is a glass cannon. -
Quote:
Building for ranged defence is usually a poor idea since kin's need to be in melee to get the most out of their own buffs. AoE defence is much more useful (Though harder to build for), and S/L is even more useful than that because S/L covers melee, ranged and AoE and most attacks in the game have a S/L component.
Kins should not be sitting in melee. You have Siphon Speed, which allows you to dart in and out of melee in a second.
If you are sitting in melee, you will die much, much faster. Dart in, cast Fulcrum, dart out, damage damage damage, dart in and out as necessary for transference and transfusion, or just target some guy who wandered over to you.
Played right, Ranged defense will cover you WAY more then S/L will, and will protect you from most mezzes. -
Quote:This is a playstyle thing here. I have never had any issues with cones on any Kin I have ever played, and Frost Breath brings some excellent AoE damage to Kin.It really depends on your play style, but I'll give you my opinion anyway.
I personally hate cones, so I've always stayed away from the Frost Breath. Imo, a Kin is all about the buffs. I'm too busy keeping everyone SBed and whatnot to really bother having every single Ice attack.
Considering nearly all Kin powers require a To-Hit check? It's incredibly useful for a Kin.
Unless of course, you want to solo at all, and be able to deal with bosses... Or be able to deal with bosses in a team. BFR doesn't suck.
Quote:Increase Density can be extremely helpful. If someone dies on the team, I always hit them with it when they rez in case they don't have a Break Free. It's also a nice place to put some +Def IOs in.
Quote:When I first made my Kin I did try Hover, but I learned to hate it. Fast. I think a lot of people feel it's going to keep them safe, but when most mobs have at least one or two enemies that are ranged, it's not going to help. Not to mention moving around in caves can be quite difficult. It didn't take me long to switch to Super Speed and I don't regret it.
Quote:I don't agree with your Ancillary/Epic choice, either. I always tend to go with Mace Mastery. The Scorpion Shield is, I believe, one of the only shields that has +Def. The rest are +Resist Damage I think? But don't quote me on that. Also, by taking Web Envelope, you lose the scattering of mobs when you use Ice Storm & Blizzard.
Quote:You could have the best damage out there, but my take is that if you don't know how to handle your toon or don't have at least some good defense, you're useless to the team. And for that reason I picked up the Fighting pool to add a bit more defense. You NEED to be alive to be good. Unless of course someone has Vengeance on the team.
Quote:It is NOT, I repeat NOT, necessary to have ALL of your attacks 6 slotted. You could end up using those extra slots somewhere else.
Quote:Don't 6 slot Health. Ever. Really, the most you need in is it 3 slots for a Numina's +Regen/+Rec, Regenerative Tissue: +Regen, and a Miracle: +Rec.
Quote:Speed Boost should have about 4 slots in it. I chose parts of the Performance Shifter set.
Quote:I cannot stress enough about Transference having 6 slots. Either go with the Performance Shifter set or Efficacy Adaptor set. Your call.
Quote:Fulcrum Shift doesn't NEED 6 slots, but I do recommend AT LEAST 4. 2 Accuracy, 2 Recharge. If you can fit in more, then go to 3 Accuracy, 3 Recharge.
Kinda agree here. I personally would do 2 slots, 1 LoTG and then 1 Karma:KB Protection.
I'll look over the build and see if I can't streamline it a bit. Building for Ranged defense on a Kin is a very good idea, and I will try to maximize that without sacrificing to much. I highly recommend getting Tough/Weave though to get more defense and resistance. -
