  1. Is it safe to assume there's a Mac version of Skype? My poor old pc lags enough with just the game, might be better not to overtax it

*sigh* ok, ok... I'll look into installing when I get home... Peer pressure ftw.

  2. MI'M up for play this weekend since I'm off Fri and Sat nights but doubt I'll buy a microphone before then... Though maybe could be convinced to install skype or vent... Maybe.
  3. My take on the "debate:"

I couldn't give a rats tail if person X has more art then me, if person Y has better art than me or if person Z has both.

There are several reasons behind my little gallery and none of them are competitive, that's a race I'll bow out of but happily watch and enjoy from the sidelines...

Mainly I just really like my trio of characters and enjoy seeing other peoples take on them. I'm pickier about Caemgen than the other two but that's been an evolution of artists putting their particular spin on him and me liking it so much I made it "canon" for him. If I was looking for different takes I would just find one artist I thought rocked and hire them over and over...

Almost hand in hand with enjoying different takes on them is enjoying seeing them in different styles. I love comic book art but I also really enjoy getting my trio done in other styles as well. I'm very very anxious to see how Nojitsu, a pin up style artist, handles Alpha... Or Caemgen. The fact that I'm getting her to experiment outside of her usual subject matter is a bonus to me I also hace a Caemgen piece in the works by Scarlethawk on DA who is a fantasy artist... Her stuff is so far from comics, and so far from demony looking guys, that I cannot wait to see how it turns out... (extra bonus on this one too in that commission price was all being donated to charity...)

then again, sometimes I do want that comic book look and feel... Sometimes I just want something that will be cool...

But at the end of the day, the point is I want art that I like. Some art I will like for it's quality. Some I will like for it's feel or mood. Some I mayike for it's unusualness, it's quirkiness or even just because of who did it and why...

All in all, I think we can all agree everyone, to one extent ir another, has their own reasons for their gallery, their own goals for it, and their own personal likes and dislike... And all are perfectly valid for that person.

So Bayami doesn't want me doing my hack job on his character? I totally respect that. Personally I love the job Jophiel did on Alpha but to each their own...

So TA likes to see pretty much anything done to his characters? I can totally understand that. Personally I would veto or object to some things just because they don't fit how I see my trio but then again they are just characters so *shrug* to each their own.

To sum up, I think the idea of their being one right or proper way to build a gallery is... Inane. (word of the day I'm told). Bayani's goals and path are not for me and neither exactly is TA's... But I love both their galleries and hope to get to see them both add tons more to them...

And finally, I've probably been pretty rambling and arguing what doesn't need arguing but I'm passing away time at work and this ate up a good chunk of it
  4. ((applauds))

They're your guns Wassy, stick to them!

Deebs could have had a good argument against the rule if it was made before the start of the contest- a hawt chick may be obviously out of place in some arts, how much hawt chick must be shown, why not be fair and insist on eye candy for those who prefer the dudes, etc etc... I may have been on board with that.

However, was not one of the big complaints last year regarding changing rules after the fact? I cannot recall who made that complaint last year but I see no reason to give them call to make the same complaint so early into the contest this year...

Yeah, I was actually quite impressed by the lacy bits and the fact she must have put in some time making sure there was a pattern to it (must admit I don't know off hand if it's the games pattern or not) as opposed to just going the squiggly line route... Not that the squiggly line route cannot work perfectly fine in some art but here where the lace is so prominant I think the extra attention to detail really pays off...

As for CR's meme-hood being a sign of the apocolypse, that's just a local fairytale... It's only really a sign of it if he first changes his color of choice from orange to yellow.
  6. Ever really got to know you all that well but good luck on everything and always keep art in your heart...

Hey look, I made a rhyme!
  7. Enter a contest or don't but if you do then complaining that the rules apply to you is silly.

As for the rules, if a person has a problem with them the proper time to speak against them is before the contest begins. Complaining after the fact is just... Inane.

As for the co trovery itself, well it's very darn amusing to watch... Please do continue . But personally, if I had the balls or talent to enter, I'd probably would hace had a baby chicken on fire at the very bottom of the pic... And in each month I survived I would have advanced the chich a little further across the screen and had the fire a little bigger... Screw wether it was relevant to the submission or not... I just think burning baby chickens alive to qualify would be amusing!!
  8. 2012 EOW?? Errr, color me clueless?

    (I know, big shock, right?)
  9. Don't get me wrong, the lack of detail on the cape doesn't diminish the pic in my eyes at all... The mentioning of the cape/bolero is partly because I was expecting more detail, not because I felt it was needed. I do really love the bolero details though but I'm still good without it

It was probably also partly a PCR tactic (pre-empt CR) since if I hadn't mentioned it I'm sure he would have

But ya, loved how this came out so much I fenangled her into doing Caemgen too! Will be interesting to see how he comes out in her hands since she's only got one (kind of effeminate looking) male in her gallery that I've noticed... But this was so great I was willing to risk it... Get the feeling she's not hot on doing Alpha though... *sigh* an incomplete set!

And VexX- Trust me, not matter how much detail you put on the cape my eyes would have gone to her figure

What? You missed a piece? How dare you? Do you mean to say you don't have my thread set as you're home page?? *gasp!*

Heh, I suppose I can't expect everyone to be as interested in my art collection as I am... No worries. But still, you really shouldn't miss this piece:

This was done by UndineCG http://undinecg.deviantart.com/ from over on Deviant Art... The cape could have used more detailing done on it, as it is it appears to basically just be a normal cloth type cape as opposed to the leather kind of look the Magic Bolero always seems to have for me... But to me that does little to detract from the awesomeness that is Fenian in this pic... I think she came out totally freaking amazing here!

Thanks... You can see a larger version on my dA page, click the face on the right hand side of sig banner to go there then check out the gallery...
  12. Very, very nice work... This is my second favorite of your current batch

Given the talent level that has been exhibited so far, that's not saying much. We've had amazing works so far...

But everyone should keep in mind that the voting isn't just on talent but also on execution of the theme. I suspect more than a couple people last at times last year because of how well they didn't stick to the theme... I do believe that great concepts with decent execution can win over lazy concepts with great execution...
  14. Thus MST2000... 3000? Whatever it was. I found it lame but the point remians :P

But the right people (and the right audience in general) turn RHPS from just fun into an event... *shrug* I think we've probably derailed this thread with RHPS enough for the time being though
  15. This harkens back to you needing new people... Because the movie itself isn't worth watching. It's watching it with the right people that makes it so entertaining!
  16. Spoil sport!!

And as long as it was Rocky Horror Picture Show in general you would have a lot of "safe" outs to do if you didn't want to do men in lingerie...

    Eddie (Meatloaf)
    Columbia
    Riff Raff
    Magenta
    Brad and Janet (before shots...)
The Transylvanians were just little people in tuxes...
    Dr. Scott

Actually most of the movie, for most of the time, has next to no men in corsettes or the like...
  17. Since when did RHPS stand for Rocky Hero Picture Slideshow???
  18. I'll save the dye job until my hairs a bit lower start going grey...

I'm hobbit like in my toe hair vanity!

  20. Heh, sometimes CR I think you are a tightrope walker... Because sometimes you sounds like you're treading a very thin line between pompous and whiney But it's amusing to watch so we luvs ya anyway!

But seriously... I think it's become apparent you spend more time looking at each and every nook and crannie than the average joe, that your weird, twisted brain latches onto minutia... So would seem only expected that when your crazy cranium doesn't recognize something it searches for some odd thing that fits the pattern and shoves that in it's place...

Or you're demented. On of the two

    Yes. Yes you do...

Good luck with finding some who'll put up with ya!

  22. LoL, I just hope you don't feel like I suggested you do them all... I was thinking maybe just choosing one or two!

But hey, more power to ya!! . And good luck on the decorating. Personally I throw in a matress, boxspring, some sheets, pillows and blanket and call it done. Everything else is just unneccessary frilliness.
  23. Must admit, I've only skimmed TA's wiki... Keep meaning to tacle it but never gotten to it yet.

But ya, that's why I mentioned different spheres... He'll, even the Marvel/DC crossovers sucked.

Anyway, never meant to imply that I didn't get where your coming from... Just that if one tries hard enough (and indeed partakes of drink and sole liberally) one can make anything work. If they should or not is a different question...
  24. D'oh!

How did I forget to mention the Network???

Another tactic for getting customers is to comment on a lot of DA pages, favorite lots of pics, etc... I know I almost always check out the page of someone who adds me to their watch or who comments on a piece of mine... And that curiosity has put more than a dew artists on my radar

And I knew you'd get volunteers... I'm shocked there aren't more. Free art is usually a siren call around here...

And since I did mention it I wanna say a bit more on it... My first mention of it was at least partly tongue in cheek but I think there is benefit to the occasional free art. 1, it is obviously good public relations and helps tie you into the community... Many people like to go with local artists when possible and this helps make you local even if your not very vocal in the day to day banter and such on this board. 2, it also ties into building the gallery but also demonstrates you can put in the work even if it's not a character you love...

Non of that is neccessary but I do think it can help someone just breaking into commissions or just breaking into a new market... But don't go overboard on freebies or you'll kill your market

and one last bit of advice (for now at least) - make sure you have males in your gallery! I've skipped past several artists when deciding who to hire because all they had in their gallery was T&A shots... Don't get me wrong, I like me a good T&A shot... But when I am looking to have my males characters drawn I like to know the artist can do more than that...
