  1. Heh, a little after posting my non helpful hints I thought of that Scooter but alas it wasn't a CoH web page I was viewing... Sports page actually.
  2. Still no correct guess on number 2... Time for a clue!

The correct number is greater than 5, less than 99 and was chosen while looking at a web page....

I think I may have just made this too easy...
  3. Coloring books seem very kindergarten to me... I don't think just buying one and coloring it in should be ok exactly but what if the artist wanted to make their own? Or at least one page? It seems to me the best way to do it would be to do the bold outline of such in black marker and then color it in... Would this be an acceptable use of marker even though they're not allowed? I ask since it seems the rule is intended to prevent "pro quality materials" but this use seems to me to be merely as a tool to make the template kindergarteners often use...

Also, how strict is the no pencil thing? Would it be acceptable to make a sketch and then color over with crayons so thenpencil is not seen at all? If it's not noticable at all it would be next to impossible to enforce but I like to follow rules whether they can be enforced or not

And final question - would a collage of cut out images and such be acceptable?kids do have access to scissors and glue . And if acceptable, any restrictions?(such as must also include some non cut out elements or cannot include printed off screenshots but only actual printed/published materials?)

And regarding Bubbawheats comments - being probably the lowest vote getter so far, each month and cumulatively, I must say I do not view this as an easy month in any way... Perhaps as a month where I may have a chance since it's more about ideas and vision than execution but so much of art is ideas and execution that I think the "real" artists still have the advantage...
  4. Grrrr on the double posting... Connection seems wonky tonight.
  5. I saw them... I just didn't get them.

I assume it's something that makes more sense if you've read the story or seen the movie? I've actually never done either...
  6. And we have... No winner yet!

And DCaller - no prob, I didn't see it and doesn't seem anyone guessed between your post and edit so you didn't influence anyone elses guess...

Nope, not too late but not the number either... But you can guess again in 12 hours from your post... And contest #3 and #4 are still open as well
  8. Sorry A-katt but Contest #1 is Closed due to a very early win my Jophiel... (don't beat him up too bad, he's gunna be a dad!)

Contest #2 still has no winner... (amusing some think there's a reason behind the number I picked... There is but you all won't guess it!)

Contest #3 and #4... I'm not commenting on these at all until I close 'em and decide winner.

Remember, even if #2 closes in 2 minutes, 3 and 4 are open until Wednesday about 7:30 am-ish eastern time... BUT if #2 drags on I will keep 3 and 4 open until #2 closes. Also remember you can enter 3 and 4 multiple times as long a you follow time constraints listed in the first post.
  9. The number still has not been guessed...

And I just noticed I put "contents" in the thread title instead of "contest"... Well if people aren't reading every thread I make just out of adoration of my greatness then they deserve to miss the contest anyway!!

Because the judging qualities are so ill-defined and the decision process isn't transparent, there's quite a lot of room for debate.

Your baseball analogy works well, because it also exposes the flaw in the system. Everyone's seen biased calls made and dirty judges. In a situation where there's no publicly clear criteria to make judgments on, it's very easy for the ruling party to play the system. I'm sure you're aware at how upset an obviously bad call makes the team who got punished for it. The same thing applies here too.

My bet is that if someone intended a "gender queer male" to be the hot chick in their work that Wassy would go for it... *From the get go she said the overriding factors was to have fun and the intent to acknowledge the rule. If the artist intended that person as acknowledgement I bet the could convince Wassy... She did go for my baby chick after all...

And it was football, not baseball, but we can just say sports and move on...

There are controversial calls no matter how specific the rule. Strike zones, end zones, goal line are all clearly marked yet time and time again calls are debated and argued over. Life is messy, wear hip waders...

And all in all I think I've said all I can on this, I've stated my view at least twice and in a nutshell I'm on Wassy's side - I think the rule is fine, I think everyone should know by now it's all but anything goes to satisfy it and I think those who disagree are probably too entrenched to see things differently.

To be fair, so probably too am I...

So with that in mind I am still moving on to guessing April's theme...

I'm thinking the theme may he 4... April is the fourth month so this months art may require four of something...

Or maybe it'll be toads... Just cause everyone loves toads!
  11. And where's April's theme??

Less drama and more arts, I say! I wanna get cracking!

(hmmm, will the theme center on April Fools? Easter? Bunnies? Zombies??)

Nor would I if I had intended the Alice in my pic to be the hot chick in question but in truth I didn't... I saw the Alice in my pic as the 11 year old Alice I believed her to be in the first book (though I see from Wikipedia she was actually 7) and even if my particular pervness was to see 11 year olds as hot I certainly wouldn't admit it!

I intended to include another in a series of flaming baby chicks to again satisfy the rule but, basically, flat out forgot to get around to it. *shrug*

So like I said, I'm DQ'ing myself over this since I didn't even manage to try to accomodate the rule...

But no worries... I plan to continue doing a piece for each months theme, it just won't be up for votes (which honestly is not a big change.). Who knows, if there is a chance to win your way back in then maybe I can still win this contest after all!! Mwuahahahaha!!!
  13. IF you only post a few a day it could take all year! . I've seen a ton of your arts through my watch of various artists and I have to assume you found at least a few I'm not watching yet!

Anyway, your building youself a really amazing collection! I'm really enjoying not only the range of artists that you've been using but the range of poses and such... Somehow I just never would have thought to get art of Caemgen cooking pop-tarts!! . But it's a great idea and I can't wait to see more!!!
  14. I'm a big believer that rules should be enforced and that even the appearance of bias or impropriety should be avoided...

I also believe that, for the most part, this drama was fully covered back before the deadline for January.

As I recall, the drama that month centered around Shia and his Mako swimming piece. There originally appeared to be no female at all in the piece and it's validity was questioned. He seemed to hem and haw for a bit and eventually modified the art to have Mako in a bikini...

His entry was only then deemed valid by Wassy. I believe it was at this point that the Hot Chick rule was pretty much defined as a tongue in cheek rule intended to add fun and spice to the competition. That piece being allowed proved the "chick" certainly did not need to meet the typical definition of "hotness" to qualify...

I believe it was also about this time that Wassy explained that she was more interested in the artists intention to meet the rule than the actual execution of it... Basically, if the artist intended a part of their piece to satisfy the rule, even if in a cheesy, cheeky, play on words type way (my baby chick on fire) or some other sneaky way (Mako in drag) then all was good - They were having fun with the rule which is what it's intent was.

So far I think Wassy has been doing great with it...

As for this month, I do believe there could he a couple questionable pieces but by looking alone I don't see a single piece without someone or something the artist could have intended to have meet the Hot Chick rule...

In a few of the pieces it seems Alice is the intended qualifier. This may be a bit pervy since Alice is generally thought of as not of legal age but then again I am sure I'm not the only perv around here...

In at least ohe piece Alice is a bit nutty and scary looking... But some people are into that kind of thing. Face it, some Goth chicks are hot. X

Anyway, we could ask each artist what their intended qualifier for the hot chick rule is but, as I mentioned, I believe each piece has something that could qualify under the "intention" clause of the rule. The only piece I can definitively say the artist does not have an element they intended to satisfy the rule is my own... I plum forgot, really.

As for every other submitted piece, unless the artist wants to admit they did not include a hot chick, or at least some element the intended to satisfy that rule, I think they all squeek by. Sure it wasn't the T&A or cheesecake of earlier months but *shrug*

Wassy - personally I think you are doing a fine job and I hope you don't let the continued hassle over this rule force you to give it the ax. I think most everyone knows it is intended for fun and whimsy and not as a clear cut and dry rule...

It's kind of like comparing the out of bounds rule in football to the roughing rule. There is a clearly marked line the separates in bounds from out - cross it and the play is dead. As for roughing, it's a rough sport and roughing could be called on someone pretty much every play... But that isn't the intent if the rule and people know it. Roughing is ill defined and rightly so... The more you defined it the more controversy there would be due to something being called that, strictly speaking, didn't fit the letter of the law.

If the Hot Chick rule was a hard and fast definitive thing then we'd be having people DQ'd just due to artistic skill (me) or because the judges definition of hit wasn't the same as the artists...

So it's a fun little aside and I have no problem with it or how Wassy has handled it...

  16. Alrighty, still no winner in contest #2 - The number pickers game... (better than nose pickers I guess) and remember that #3 and #4 are open until at least Wednesday morning...

For #3 and #4 remember I'm not really looking for anything specific or grandly written or whatever, just something that'll strike my fancy when it comes time to read them all and make a choice. I may go for serious, I may go for silly... I may go for a recipe for boob wrapped backon bits and cheese, whatever that means!
  17. Response 1 - normal is over rated...
Response 2 - post is useless without pics!!!

    Feral Kat artz!

    LoL!! That is fabulous!!!

Hmmm, a sack full if Kats... I'll be in my bunk.
  19. The Hot Chick rule was always meant as lighthearted fun rather than a constricting, defining influence on the arts, as I understand it. It seems to me that Wassy was very willing from the get go to be very loose and easy going on this requirement... She ok'd my baby chich with a lighter near it's butt, Shia's (was his, right?) Mako with a bra on, etc...

If we are going to be really strict about it then we will need to know whose definition of hot we are going by... I think someone mentioned playboy bunnies but I personally find cuteness much more hot. Some people are into heavy chick, some like chicks with errr... Sticks.

And as for an argument against Alice being the hot chick... Errr, what does a dress have to do with it? It's hot, not sexy, so the amount of skin should have little to do with it. Heck, some chicks could make a burqa attractive! (eh, I probably spelled that wrong...)

I may be willing to hear the argument that the character is a little girl and thus should not qualify but nothing says she had to be kept a little girl for the art...

As for other human characters... I believe the idea is to blend Alice with CoH but that canon doesn't need to be adhered to se who says there couldn't be s hot female Mad Hatter?? I've seen some really great arts of such a concept.

In truth, it has been said since early on that it was the intent that mattered... That so long as the entrant intended part of the art to fit the Hot Chick requirement that it would qualify... So if people drew a sexy female rabbit with that intention then all should be good. Same as if someone drew Alice with the intent of her being the hot chick...

Honestly, my intention was to throw in another baby chick joke, this time to have the tail feathers on fire. My intent was to have it get more and more engulfed for as long as I was in the contest...

Alice was not intended as a hot chick in my entry since I did view Alice as a young girl... As such, I did not meet the Hot Chick requirement... Even though I fully supprt Wassy's very lax enforcement of the Hot Chick rule, my piece doesn't meet it at all. Due to this I am disqualifying myself so Wassy doesn't need to even be faced with the question...

    Good luck to all remaining...
  20. By the by, with one contest closed already it's possible the 2nd could close just as quick... So contests 3 and 4 will stay open until at least Wednesday at about 7:30 am eastern time to give everyone a chance to enter...
  21. Contest #1 is closed!

The letter was indeed O and despite the missing period, Jophiel started each word of the sentence with the correct letter and it was English even if weird!

All in all, I'm thinking the Jophiel residence has been missing a lot of periods lately!!

Congrats Jophiel! So, will the art be of the newest character created???
