What? His works for me not impressive enough??
But yeah, he's got several pieces up which I believe are open to anyone to color if they wish and to boot he's always been super easy to talk to and work with so I am not suprised at all that he was receptive...
And great job with the coloring! I really like the pyro touches -
Meep!! I really need to have birthdays more often!!
Free arts and closer to retirement... Where's the drawback in getting older??
That is looking awesome, LJ... But nope. don't recognize the...
errr, lol. Is that from the rl pic I posted in that thread from the person needing headshots and screenshots?? That is too cool!!
I definitely need to age faster! lol -
Well I cannot honestly compare this game to other MMO's as I've really not played others. Obviously one can't expect each and every thing to be soloable and I'm generally cool with that but ocasionally the fact really burns my bum...
I'm nearing completion on my redside project and have found I am running out of contacts before new ones are available. I suppose if I was running in a group I would be getting the xp bonus and this wouldn't be an issue (blue side I've never wanted for contacts) but I have been finding this very annoying. Plus it seems like pretty much every mission in late game red side has an EB or two in it... But ok, whatever...
Anyway, so I was running some Orobouros stuff since I was out of contacts and the arc that really riled me up was Mender Silos' Trading Places arc...
I believe when I did this blue side I eventually had to give up because I just couldn't manage the Jade Spider on my own... (Actually, team couldn't manage the spider that one Friday night!) but yeah... On final mission of arc I take down Minx, Ms. Liberty, Numina, Malaise, Inferno, Synapse (twice), Citadel, Positron, Manticore and Sister Psyche... But then, enter Statesman.
Blah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... I know he's like the signature character and the toughest of tough and stuff but egads! It seemed like no matter what I did, once I got him down to just 25% of hp left, he suddenly just started gaining xp and whomping me butt. Hell, wasted about 10 mil on inspiratipms to have a go and same darn results.
Anyway, I'm sure there are millions of people out there who have solo'd this mission asleep, without a single inspiration or temp power, and while making sweet love to a super model... *shrug* I'm more than happy to admit I'm not an elite player.
All in all, my main issue is that I believe any mission you can accept solo should be doable solo... And maybe this one is by decent players. Whatever. Like I said, I'm still a bit grouchy about the no smoking thing I have going on. And I must give props to red side for there being a whole heck of a lot less missions which have simultaneous glowies that must be clicked... I don't think I've run into that at all red side! Those missions REALLY piss me off.
Sp yeah... Whatever.I'm sure there is a part of the forums to rant on like this and that this isn't it... So [/RANT]
Thanks for the offers to help allThough when I get my stubborn on and want to finish solo there's little chance of me asking for assistance before throwing my comp out a window... which would then make such assistance a bit moot.
-
that came out totally wicked cool... fantabulous job!
-
Hmmm, I been meaning to ask you about that program as it's not been working for me... Been getting the black rectangle
Was thinking it may have to do with the dual monitor set up but I guess maybe I should check me drivers??
Ah well, something I'll worry about some other time -
Couple of arts that have been around for a bit that haven't got posted yet...
First finishes Swanzies set of colorizing alt=territories arts of my characters..
And next up is a model sheet Bindweed / Happy_Dan did for Fenian...
I've really not been hiring out new works lately, mainly because I was going to wait until I had character sheets done for each character... But I'm pretty sure the lack of new arts is (mainly) going to continue for quite some time. I still have outstanding works with Ravenskar, Aposcar, ScottyShoemaker and one more with Bindweed/Happy=Dan which I expect will be completed and I will post them up when they come... There's a couple other artists who were paid but... Well, let's not hold our breath expecting those to be done.
Anyway, despite loving the game, I am also insanely annoyed by the amount of content which I find simply un-soloable. Yeah, yeah, yeah... Join a team, invite people to yours, ask for help... whatever. I generally like to solo. Why someone so anti-social is even on an MMo defies logic but *shrug* Point is, I like to solo and the fact there is so much I simply cannot do, cannot complete, cannot accomplish solo is driving me nutty... Yeah, I obsess about weird things...
Anyway, cause of this I'm going to have to give that other game an honest chance and see how that suits me. I honestly hate the look of it so I doubt it'll get much of a chance... But I'm also kind of holding out for that DC one... From what I've seen that promises to be solo friendly... so if it ever comes out and I find that it is... Well, I suppose right now I'm finding it a bit tough to invest monies into characters which may not translate over there so I'm kind of in a wait and see mode...
Anyway, not crying doom, not quitting... Just saying I'm holding off on new investment while I check out some options...
(And I'll readily admit I am very, very annoyed right now since I am grouchy from quitting smoking two days ago and I just racked up like 380k debt on one mission trying uselessly over and over and over to complete it... but argh, this non solo friendly thing has annoyed me for a long time now...) -
Fabulous!!
And I'm pretty sure you'll get more people looking for you nowI know I'd check out atlas real quick every time I log in except I'm currently working redside
Oh, and welcome to th best part of the forums!! -
Hmmm, my guess would be this mystery guest is... Well, I won't say it and spoil the fun but I'm thinking it's a Proper Noun.
-
So... Umm... Pick another day and start up one??
Saturday may be bad as some may not want to tie up the whole weekend like that but a weekday may draw some peole who would rather party on the weekend anyway.
My days off kind of rotate (in every 4 weeks I get two Fri and Sat nights off and two Sun, Mon nights off) so I can never make every week of anything but I certainly wouldn't mind another option that I may be able to hit occasionally -
I don't have any current head shots but I haven't changed all that much (few more gray hairs though)
As for screenshot, at work so can't properly crop this but I guess it's better than nothing...
ok, think that should work... -
Original Fenian had a little of the witchy look, and a lot of the skin look... But seeing as how she hates to study or research to improve even her own magic, she's probably not someone anyone would consult
Ah well, guess I'll have to wait for a guest appearance in issue #2 -
lol....
(for the record, at no time when I was considering a contest did I ever consider shooting the losers! Though the idea did work in Stephen King's The Long Walk.) -
So... kind of a supernatural eco-terrorist?
Actually, it's not my usual but it sounds interesting. Is this a novel novel or a graphic novel? (or is it going to be, rather...)
The sketches are cool either way... I'd give up a bit of smallness for my ipod to have it look that cool -
Ya, I can see that... Originally I saw this from my mobile and that's not the best art viewing tool... Still a very cool piece after seeing it full sized

Quote:1)I wasn't going to say anything else in the thread because my points were all "countered" with paragraphs starting with "Not to be <insert insult here>, BUT" (which of course means you're being exactly that) for me to really consider it a debate anymore,

I could go on but it is pointless. You called me a liar so saying anything to you is useless. -
Quote:No worries man, I totally get what you were saying and where you were coming from. Besides, I'm certainly not taking anything here personal and mean nothing that way.First, just to be clear - it wasn't my intention, Caemgen, to call you cheap - rather I was addressing the general idea of running a contest for the sole purpose of getting lots of essentially free art. (which you did mention on the initial post). Just to be clear.
Quote:But - if a person is throwing a "contest" with the -INTENT- of "Ha! I'll get scads of artwork, and I'll ONLY have to pay for, like, ONE piece! Cool Beans!" - doesn't that seem rather disrespectful of the artist's work, of their time and effort? I mean, if the -INTENT- there is to slide right by having to pay each artist for each individual work?
Key word: -INTENT-
Yeah, I think that's crummy.
((I suppose if I really wanted to get super philosophical I could bring up how one can never know what is in another persons head or heart but let's just not go there. lol))
Quote:Again, Deviant Art has members that range from kids posting stick-figure drawings of Pokemon to Full-on Professionals working for Marvel and DC. You're right in that "Big-Time" artists working out there in "the Industry" do have bigger things to worry over than _LittleTimmy256_ on DA doing "commissions" for a nickel. and *ANY* working artist will have to deal with finicky buyers and under-cutting competition - I get that, too.
I just thought it was of interest to the discussion.
As Wassy mentioned, there are huge Buy Local movements for everything from produce to cars... As such, I am interested if people think the same way towards this kind of art and what they consider local. With produce I believe it generally has to do with a mileage range or how much a carbon footprint it takes to get to market or such, with cars it's generally a national thing... If it is there with art, what would the locality be?
Framkly if I would have seen an American or Canadian who did the same style as Jirogam (to just pick a foreign artist at random) but at twice the price... I probably would have went with them. A big part of that would have been to avoid any language issues (I've had a few problems with those) but part would also have been having "buy local" in mind...
Still, if I was thinking "local" in terms of buying art it would probably have more to do with a theoretical local than a geographic one. A "locality" based on language, hmmm... finding it tough to find the right words that won't be misconstrued or taken wrong... bleh. I gues I could just say the more similiar the culture is to my own, the more I would consider them local in this kind of area? So yeah, a part of me would rather buy from an American artist than one from Indonesia even if it cost a bit more. The problem with trying to do that with art comes into style... You tend not to easily be able to find the exact (or really close) thing that easily...
Anyway, starting to remble on this... Point is, I would definitely be interested in other peoples (and definitely artists) opinions on this whole topic...
Quote:It *would* be nice if we lived in a world where each and every one of us human beings recognized the value of each other's work, and we all were able to give and receive fair and just compensation (in whatever form) for that work. But Reality is not Ideal - and I guess we all just do what we can. -
-
Beautiful... with or without the statesman earing! :P
-
They're both very cool but as I said on DA, I absolutely love FF.
-
Awesome!! I love how he's growing out if the plant! Way cool.
-
What time we start again??
And this is a Cim one, right? So u can bring my villian project? Or am I horribly mistaken as usual? -
Quote:Sorry you haven't found this interesting enough to read more than that... But in case you look back: My mind is actually not quite made up but at this point I am pretty sure I won't be doing a contest afterall...So there was a lot to read and frankly I didn't read much past your first response. To me it sounds like you've already made up your mind to go ahead and do this. Good luck.
Quote:I'm guessing your stance on this issue is pretty clear with the number of times you use this counterpoint. I would think if you plan to continue purchasing from the art community, that you'd be interested in practices that would make said community better, thereby increasing your ability to get good commissions. But I suppose that's altruistic crazy talk and no consumer does such wild things as look at what their money is being used for. All that time I spent researching local farms to buy food from must have been a dream, as its really only my job as a purchaser to get the most for my money. Why am I not at Wal-Mart this very second?!
Perhaps you thought my questions were rhetorical or sarcastic or something but they were genuine... I can see the point of it being counter productive to do something to damage the art community if one wishes to partake of what it offers in the future. Still though, that leaves questions of just which art community one needs to support, encourage and faithfully patronize. The global art community? The local (country) one? The one closest (these boards)?
You talk about buying from local farms... I personally couldn't do that since I eat 75% take out and 25% out of a can (the bachelor life for me!) but I respect you for having the convictions for doing it. Still though, isn't there some limit to it even for you? Do you buy 100% of your goods from local producers? Never eating anything out of season unless it was canned or otherwised stored for the offseason? Would you never buy an apple (or whatever) that came from outside your local area just for convienance?
Bringing that back to art, must one purchase locally (whatever we decide local is for art) if a particular style isn't available from such?
Art prices were brought up previously and how some artists complain about others selling too cheaply. As a conscientious consumer what are my responsibilities to this concern? Should I insist on paying some minimum price? Should I only patronize those charging what most feel is correct? Should I only get work from pro's who charge a grand or more so as to help raise prices for all artists?
And again, I do not mean any of this sarcastically or rhetorically. If anything I have shifted from the practicle question of contest yes or no to a more philisophical questioning of the whole commissining process and the rights, responsibilities and ethics of it...
And if I repeat a counterpoint it's not neccessarily because I hold that point and it's unchangable, just more likely that I don't think it's been really adressed or countered yet. -
Pyro - thanks for the defense but let's be realistic, it wasn't about being altruistic. *I ran the contests because they were fun to run. I hired locally because the artists were open for commissions and I liked their styles. (still waiting for some to be open but *shrug*) And while I am glad I may have exposed one or two artists previously not found by peeps here, I did that too because I wanted art from them and not just to introduce them.
I won't argue that I'm selfish... But I am not cheap. Well, not money wise, anyway
I actually don't recall that from August '09... Maybe cause I was just a newb then. Not sure if I had even found this forum then but was probably around there somewhere... Anyway, if I'd known there was a similiar thread I'd have just looked it up and reread that one
But I do think there is a logistical difference between someone with no or limited collection doing a contest and someone with a larger collection... Trust issues and such if nothing else.
As for being on your list... *WOOT!! *. *But it's looking like your have to do it on your own... I'm leaning more and more to scrapping the contest and instead using the planned prize money for a couple Scarypet commissions or something instead. I've had a huge group project in the back of my head for quite a while and perhaps it's time to pull the trigger on that
