  1. No winner yet...

And one more rule I thought of: Do not edit your post!

It could get tricky if I checked and two people ended up having a winning number but the first had an edited post... Of course there'd be little reason to edit to go with a number someone after you chose but best to avoid the possible confusion.

doodling... 45 minutes later this was the result.

P.S. If an unsolicited freebie is bothersome for you I'll PM you my paypal info and you can send whatever you feel appropriate but really I just did it cuz I like the look of the character.

Looking for freebies and willing to take them are two totally different concepts!

Dude, that is totally awesome... On a bit of an odd angle, but totally awesome. You just leave me in awe.

Back in my younger days I had hopes to one day be an artist, actually "majored" in it in high school... But what talent I do have is one of mimicry, not creation. I could copy what I saw, make minor adjustments to things like costume, hair, expression perhaps... But I just couldn't see the image in my head if I tried shifting the head 10 degrees to one side or another. Not and have it look even halfway decent...

I babble on about that just to sort of say that prhaps another reason I tend to praise you more than some others may be that I sort of assosciate myself with the picking up of the pen after a long time gone kind of thing. I wish I could return to it and produce such amazing results but truth be told my results were never that amazing....

Thanks ever so much for the sketch.

Edit to add: You knew I had to totally make this my avatar... Hope you don't mind I chopped off the border so the image could be a bit bigger.
  4. Like Foo... And yes, yours is fine with the edit. I edited my own to say so but guess you posted first or missed it.

    is that right ?

That works except you didn't specify which number was for which artist

    And example would be:

    Cashoo: 101 Dalmations
Taclobanon: 600 channels on my sattelite...

    (The fix works)

BTW, I will announce each winner once I see someone has guessed correctly... I see no reason to wait until both have been correctly guessed. (which means, sorry EnnVee, but try again in 24!)
  6. Alright peeps, it's time to give away some artz!

I've just recently purchased two sets of commissions from two great artists for myself but that had me feeling a bit greedy since it was you motley lot who got me to be such a fan of the character artz... So instead of just purchasing a couple pieces for myself from each of the artists, I purchased a couple for myself from each and one to give away from each to the lucky winners of whatever wacky contest I came up with...

The prizes: A full body character commission work from http://taclobanon.deviantart.com/gallery/ and from our very own http://pirate-cashoo.deviantart.com/

The Contest: A basic guess the number. I picked a number between (and including) 1 and 100 for each artist. The first person to guess the number for each artist wins the paid commission from that artist!

    The Rules:
    • Each person can guess a number for each artist once per post but must wait 24 hours between posts. (You can post non guess posts, obviously, but there must be 24 hours between posts with guesses by you.)
    • Excepting the 24 hours rule, you may guess as many times as you can until we have winners.
    • You must specify which artist each guess is for. (To be clear, you can guess twice in each post - once for each artist.)
    • To make things a bit more amusing you must use the number of your guess in a phrase somehow. Ex: 101 dalmations, 2001 a space odysee, 1 thousand points of light... They don't have to make sense, I'm just adding this in to amuse myself. If you pick the right number but didn't include a phrase, I'll probably give it to you anyway... But I reserve the right not to if I think you're just trying to be a spoilsport
    • If you are the first to guess the number I have chosen for an artist, you win the commission from that artist.
    • You cannot win both commissions. If, by some miracle, you are the first to guess the correct number for both then you will get to choose which you win and the remaining commission will have a new number chosen and we'll start over...
    • I reserve the right to change the rules, add to the rules, clarify the rules as needed. I didn't think this out before hand, just kind of made it up as I went along, so it's quite possible I am forgetting something...
Minor Details: I have already PM'd the numbers to myself along with which artist each number is for. This was done at 4:55 PM on Sept 21, 2009... So if anyone suspects foul play I'll be happy to forward them a copy of the PM after the contest, take a screen shot, or whatever... (I should just say bugger off and stay out of my contest if your going to be like that but I am big on trying to be open, honest and above board...)

Each commission is for a one character full body piece. I will forward the names of the winners to the artists and the winner will then be able to contact the artist directly to provide reference shots, discuss poses, etc etc...

If I forgot something, you need clarification on something, or whatever, just post and ask. I will check back here as often as possible to keep track of things...

    REMEMBER:
You can have two guesses per post but only one per artist.
You can only make a guess post once 24 hours have gone by since your last one. (It's not one guess on Monday, one Tuesday... I'm talking 24 actual hours.)
You must include the guess number in some kind of phrase... Just because.

    The guessing may commence now....
  7. Whoever made Cashoo's que so darn long deserves to be flogged! Death is too good for them! They should be... errr... wait a minute....

    Nevermind.

But since I am at least part of the reason Cashoo's free artz will be disppearing for at least a little while then I suppose I owe some free artz to the board... Luckily one of the commission spots I reserved from Cashoo was for that exact purpose! Once I think up some suitably stupid contest to run the winner will indeed receive free Cashoo Artz. Just be patient while I try to get my woefully underused brain dusted off to try to think up a good contest...

Didn't really know you per se but I loved seeing all the great art you had show up on the boards. For that, if nothing else, you'll be missed around here...

Maybe not an actual line but I definitely think that if you opened up to commissions you would fill up with requests pretty quickly. I think your artwork is up there with many that I have seen with commission lists on DeviantArt and (at least for me) the fact they're done by hand in marker adds a certain "coolness factor" to them.

I get the time restraints, the fact your not set up with the latest art tech (and don't even seem to have the old scanner hooked up) as well as that you've got other things going and doing this just for fun. But if/when that all changed I could definitely see you picking up some spare fees with your work if you wanted.

All that being said, I hope your not misreading my praise and thinking I'm after a freebie... Definitely not the case. If you ever did one of those "give me your character threads" I would definitely toss one in for your consideration as I have on a couple of others but (just as if you ever did open for commissions I would purchase one) but I'm not looking for any pay off for the praise... I just think your work is worthy of it and the fact that you "came out of nowhere" with your mad skillz and aren't one of the "pros" on the board just make me a bit more likely to give you your props where often I don't neccessarily bother for other works since a bunch of people already have praised it and I am sometimes reluctant to just add praise for praise sake when I have nothing new to offer... (err, did that make sense?)

Anyway, not looking for freebies so haven't bothered to include a link to reference shots. I am looking forward to a couple commissions I just set up though... Can't wait to see them and post them

And one final bit of praise... You nailed Caemgen's costume pieces exactly
  10. No objection... I'd be interested to see how it reacts at the lower end since I basically only tested on 50's... Sides, first couple mission start lower anyway, I think just last 2 are 40-54?
  11. Dude, the Daybreak Patrol Needs Help! (#321834) You're not just going to leave them hanging out to dry, are you??

Errr, that's kind of my way of asking you give my arc a try when you get to level 40 or so. It's a long arc - 5 missions, 1 small map, 3 mediums and one unique (but not huge... I hate huge maps just for the sake of hugeness.) The last mission may contain an Archvillian.... o.0

The premise is that the Daybreak Patrol, a powered armor wearing superhero group attached to the PPD had their armors hacked and stolen... With them inside of them! Someone needs to rescue them and Meg Mason is calling upon you!

I love the reviews you give in this thread and once I finish my current project I am seriously considering following in your footsteps. Well, trying to level in AE wise, not review wise. I tend to be much too rambly to be a good reviewer. Anyway, my point is that I would welcome any and all comments/criticism you may have for my arc if/when you get to it. It's my first arc and I just sort of stumbled in and did it... Heck, didn't know til reading your thread that you could do some stuff that you can apparently do. Still, story wise and play wise I think it's pretty decent and would very much love to have you give it a try...

(The fact that it's languishing in obscurity with just one rating so far is really kind of pathetic... Help me out here! Double my number of ratings!!! Help me Obi-Wan, you're my only hope!!)
  12. As far as I can tell, you did it just fine...

However, if nobody steps up from these boards to take you up on the offer I would suggest you check out Thor's Assassin's "Network" of commissionable artists on Deviant Art http://thorsassassin.deviantart.com/journal/16627841/ - There are many artists, styles, price ranges to choose from. They may not all be familiar with CoH but they should be able to help anyway...

(Personally, I say give the great talent here a chance first - I'm all about keeping things in the family if possible... But if none are available, definitely check out the link)
  13. Ok, next time I'm stumped on a costume I'm calling on Clobber...

My only (personal) nit on his attempt is I'm not huge on the upper legs just being tights... I would probably try for something with a bit of padded armor looking texture to it.
  14. Nice job, Clobber... Is that the military helmet you used? I was thinking that may be a good base to start from if/when I got arond to giving this a go...

I'm pretty sure what makes him ask is that your artz rock and he'd "follow" your page there so he didn't miss any...

As for DA itself, it's annoying. I tried to upload a couple reference pics into my gallery and gave up after about 5 minutes of not figuring out how. The place could definitely be a lot more intuitive to use...
  16. There's also TA's handy list of commissionable artists - http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=123000
Some seem to be a bit out of date but there's a ton there with widely differing styles, you should be able to find something you like.

    Buy This

    ((Checks his bank account balance...)

Dern, no way will that win the bidding... Errr, could I bid my soul and first born???
  19. Very cool...

To ne the smile is kind of what you'd expect to see if an oompa loompa threatened to kick the Terminator's butt.
  20. I'm seriously loving all your work, dude.... Without even trying you're convincing me to never even think about trying to do art again since I know I could never get anywhere close to your stuff.

    Sister of Mercy

I'd say the hand should either be resting on the hip or holding said gun against her leg... perhaps half hidden as an implied threat rather than pointing it right at someone? Half hidden may not be able to do easily and still be obvious as a gun though... Or maybe so? What do I know? But mainly my suggestion would not do anything too fancy with the arm or it would throw off the balance of the pic...

As for the background of the pic, personally I would say have it influenced by her backstory or such if she has one. Perhaps going with the church theme there could be some stained glass windows behind her? If you are coloring I think you could do those in a light enough shade that you get what they are but such that it's still the character which really pops out at ya.

    Gifts from Pyro

That swan is great, again catches the 3D effect for me. I'm not sure if it's the image inside or the shading which does it for me, been too lazy to actually compare them and try to figure it out... But it's very nice.

As for your Py one, have you considered making the lower part of the y just a bit longer? Until I saw it was sin fact Py I was wondering why Pv... It could just be me though, I tend to play and read the boards when tired. -.-
  23. I'm very impressed... Even more so since you're working with such crude tools.

Ok, now that you've mentioned it I am noticing that... until then I thought it was perfect. (ok, not perfect, but ya get my drift...)

Frankly I'm ready form the line for CR commission... If I only knew where to stand.... *sigh*
  25. Very cool piece. Definitely someone I'll throw into my "check out" list for when I do buy my own first artz... It's not my favorite style (I tend to be more on the realism side) but when it's this well done this style is very cool.

ok, stop reading now if you don't want to see my one minor, nitpicky piece of criticism on this piece....

    ok, ok, I warned ya...

Personally, I'd have preferred the "art by" tag to be in a less conspicuous place. I fully understand an artist signing their piece... Even including a tag like that in case someone tries to crop out their signature I can at least 'get'... But it being smack dab in the middle like that is a drawback to me.
