Quote:Well I'm not exactly going to hang a flag on Marvel for good writing.
And "I can do what I like and if you don't like it suck it" is a perfectly valid way to Roleplay. I wouldn' recommend it to anyone, but you pay to play the game so you can do it how you like. That doesn't mean everyone has to accept it and call it good stuff though, goodness me no, not even close.
As for me ignoring it, I did say "Personally not my thing, so I'll pass."
Just saying if you don't want people to ignore you, don't do stuff like this. If you do then..hell go nuts I guess.
Oh it actually makes sense, only a mentalist would think it is a good idea to build an invincible robot, with the mind of a mentalist as blue print for its AI/brain, unfortunately that mentalist is Hank Pym, who did think it was a good idea and did it.
I'm perfectly happy with people not getting involved in plots and so on, it adds a bit of the real world indifference that plagues society to the RP world, the floods in Pakistan is a true tragedy, but I don't think you know many people who have as soon as the news broke jetted off to Pakistan to help out right?
Now, whats the difference to running an event that would make for an appalling news story, thus 'forcing' people to react (never done this if you don't want in, because of OOC reasons that's up to you) or instead say writing about how all Longbow are actually jackbooted pro-none powers, neo-terrorists led by an incredibly self righteous and self centered super human, but when some one complains how your editing the group within a shared environment, you can claim that they can just ignore the story, even though they are using it to change the shared world?
Hmm, perhaps I'm still a little wound up over people, I shouldn't derail this thread any further. -
Quote:Thing is Hank Pym and Ultron aren't much alike at all. Ultron has confidence for example. Hank Pym kind of sucked at making Ultron a copy of him, which is no surprise if you know Hank Pym.
Lot of people didn't want to be involved with the plot. If you'd kept it to the thread it's likely no one would have complained either but you brought it out into the shared threads and then people who didn't volunteer for it suddenly find they've had this massive tragedy dropped into thier laps. Personally not my thing, so I'll pass.
That's the thing though, if its not your cup of tea, just ignore it.
Demanding people change things so you can comfortably ignore it, that's going too far in my opinion, especially if the same requests are made of you, and you tell them no.
Back to Hank, thing is Hank is a crazy murdering psychopath, or has been one, lets not forget that this was the guy who invented an indestructible killer robot (not Ultron) that only he knew how to defeat, and had it attack the Avengers, so he could arrive, save the day and get his Avengers membership back. funny enough despite having a literal I win button, Hank lost against the robot, and his wife saved the day. -
Quote:The thing is... it's an open secret that Ultron has the exact same mind as Hank Pym as in Ultron is a robot Hank Pym, just like he later made a sex bot with the Wasps mind... that said, Marvel's 616 Super Scientists are pretty much all horrible people.Hank Pym's still around because he never meant for Ultron to go out murdering. His creation turned against him. He helped fight Ultron to stop them even.
And the *direct* consequence of the massacre of that state was for everyone grouping up and kicking Ultron's *** so bad it was comical. He was dead for a long time, eventually rebuilt because he's an AI and he left scrap code around that compelled old machines he'd made to rebuild him. I don't think anyone was saying that those involved wouldn't come back eventually (Though universally hated, which Ultron is), but the immediate response is for them to get a thorough *** kicking and be gone for a good while.
So you're kind of arguing against yourself here. Yes, they did come back *eventually* but the immediate consequences are what we're arguing about. Did anyone want a global scale beat down and character retirement for a while? I don't think so.
As for your last point, I don't know about that, I know I was expecting/am still expecting it, and others agreed I could use their SG's in it... -
Quote:Why do you need more than 5 active costume slots? If the answer is "I just want them." Why?
You can create and save as many costumes as you want and switch them in or out to any of your costume slots. While this incurs an inf cost, any inf sinks are welcome in this game.
/unsigned.
The competition does it, besides, perhaps I want to make a character who has multiple suits that are used for different encounters. Urban combat, stealth, jungle, snow, ocean, space, volcano, toxic and night club for example.
Perhaps I want him to be able to access all those costumes with out taking a trip to the tailor.

Quote:/Is reminded of a Dilbert comic about certain database types as an idea and chuckles
Anyway, that proves my point nicely. Out of the actual terrorist attacks, the one on forums would have been second only to 9/11. Trying to ignore that would be like ignoring....I dunno, something equally horrific. I know the politcal and rioting ones are worse, but that's where countries are in a state of war or civil war anyway. Not just an out of the blue civilian target.
Things are different in comic books though Tech.
I mentioned Bloodhaven earlier, the fatalities there 100,064, the villains responsible for it are still around, of course the whole zombie lantern uprising may of distracted people a bit from it, but that is still a lot of people.
Hank Pym aka Ant-man, aka Yellow Jacket, aka Giant Man, created Ultron, Ultron later killed an entire country, more or less just for the luls, I don't have the exact figure buts is likely more than the Bloodhaven figures, both Hank Pym and Ultron are still around.
Of course if we are going to say Paragon City should be like real life, well since the Patriot Act, there is no such thing as a right to privacy for Peacebringer or Warshade characters. -
Quote:Every man or woman has a line they will not cross, and while these two thugs were willing to dump the child like sleeping vampire into the sewers of Paragon City, they guessed it wouldn’t be long before some hero or criminal element would find the vampire, making it their problem, or at least that’s what they told themselves, but this, watching what looked like a child sleeping innocently get a wooden steak driven through its heart?"You were happy enough stuffing them in a bleeding sewer." Jack shook his head. "It's not a kid, genius. It's a vampire. It just looks like that. Vampires don't age, see? A hundred years from now, it'll still look like a kid. But it'll figure out what it really is long before that. And it'll start hunting. And sooner or later, it'll come after the joker that shoved it down a stormdrain, and let him know what it thinks of that."
He took a step forward, raising the stake. "I'm doing you all a favour here," he said. "You don't have to bloody watch, just stay out of my way."
There nerve broke as first one and then the other ran back towards the van, fully intending to get out of the area as fast they could, leaving Jack and the unconscious vampire by themselves... -
Quote:The thug paled, shaking his head and stepping back.Jack lowered his guns, holstering one and pulling down his mask so the thugs could see him smile. Inhumanly long, sharp fangs gleamed in the pale light. "Easy, now. I'm on your side here," he said, stepping forward to examine their burden. "Boss wants to ditch them, then? Fair enough, she's in charge." He reached to the back of his belt and retrieved a sharp wooden stake. "Better do him properly, you don't want one of these lot coming for payback. Hold him steady."
No way, they are just kids, youre out of your gourd man! he protested.
Thatd be twisted man, whod ice a kid? his partner backed him up. -
Quote:Stepping back from the door, Yarg gripped tha handle in both hands, and pulled hard.
As soon as the door opens music leaks out, the door having blocked it entirely with a thick padding, someone is playing the piano somewhere.
Plink Plink Plink
A row of lights began to turn on; illuminating a passage, there was a dull thrum as static began to build on the floor, disturbing dust and sending the motes floating, what had been gray panels before become bright, self illuminated with a strong white light. -
Quote:Bad taste is a very subjective thing. Different people roleplay for different reasons and with different priorities. Some will be offended by your content, some won't.
Personally, I'd suggest simply putting in an OOC content warning when you launch the plot to let people know what they're in for, and let them use their own judgement to decide whether they're comfortable with it.
You see I'd disagree since that would spoil surprise, and avoid them having to think on their feet. -
Quote:Believe me, people didn't shout down the St Johns thing- ok, I didn't shout down the St Johns thing because 'oh god, think of the children!' but simply because it was impossible for people to not notice, and would have meant the unequivical destruction of the Court. I doubt all it's players would be happy to be told that 'Hey, due to this you have to kill off your toons, sorry.'
And yet Arachnos are still around after Sirens Call, Deathstroke is still around after Bloodhaven, Ultron is around after he killed an entire country, Lex Luthor is still around after he killed a massive number of US citizens.
Heck look at the real world and 9/11,Al-Qaeda are still around.
If the hammer of justice is really that strong, the Court would of been destroyed long ago, I mean how many people do you think a hundred year old vampire has killed just to feed? -
I say go with it, since GR the bar for villainy has been raised any way.

The room below was smaller than the loading bay, a silver box with a red button was placed at average head height, next to a painted red arrow that points up. At the north end of the room, is a metal door and next to it what appears to be a coal chute.
-
Quote:Yarg dropped into the Loading bay quietly. He looked around the room and headed for the computer. after careful searching he found, and pressed, the button marked 'Crab Apples'. Yarg faded into the shadows of a corner to watch what happened next.
The room shudders slightly as a vibration runs through the floor, in the opposite corner from Yarg an ill stacked box falls to the ground, scattering its contents that roll across the floor, various canned goods and hypodermic needles, a blood donors bag flops from the box, filled with a dark red liquid.
In the centre of the room the metal paneled piece of floor begins to descend with the creak of machinery that needs more oil, as it begins to descend it becomes clear that there is a room under this one. -
Quote:And of course there are teh issues of super pwoered beings/events taking place while the box was unquestionabley closed too :P
So it's not like the box sealed away all hero stuff, just limied it!
Personal view is that the box stunts the flow of the super source that gives humans powers/inspiration.
While it's closed you get people like Robin Hood, John Henry and the Wright Brothers, legendary people, fantastic inventors and folk lore heroes, but ultimately human, then when its open you get people like Manticore, Back Alley Brawler and Positron, who while similar to the previous heroes, ramp things up power wise. -
Quote:Meh, point. But you knew who I was talking about
Anyway, I'd say Dev canon is final, yeah. Possibly within reason, such as the 'no supers before the opening of Pandoras box' part. Although even then, Cimerora show's that was false, so...
Blarg. Yeah, I try and stick within canon, it's safest. Although where the's gaping holes (Kheldians!) sometimes you have to improvise.
Could be that Cimerora is set before the box was closed and all the natural super powered goodness was cut off. -
Quote:Um, how can it start, when I have them on ignore Tech? What Birdy said. If you two are going to start again, take it to PMs. Don't get a perfectly good thread locked, thanks.
OT. Really, anything I could add has already been said pretty well. It's a shared environment. Do as you would be done by, etc etc
I'd put one more thing on to the rule list though.
Dev canon is final, and canon goes by the most recent update. -
ICC for ICA, is a pretty fun, and compelling section of RP, but only when people remember that the ICC, have to be acceptable on an OOC level too.
When you start demanding that the ICC are extreme enough that a person can no longer play their character, and OOC they don't want that, then you are in the wrong, your view of what is appropriate consequence wise, is never worth more than some ones enjoyment. Ever.
Particularly as those who seem to demand that ICA ='s ICC are the ones that dodge those ICC the most. -
Quote:Yeah... crazy old witch, cant seem to make up her mind, first she pays us to take the little nippers to one place, then she sends a messenger telling us somewhere else, so we check that we arent being played... and she tells us to dump em in the sewer! one of the thugs answered. As the thugs dragged the unresisting body toward the storm drain, a figure emerged out of the empty air in front of them: a man, dressed in a black armoured suit, jacket, mask and wide-brimmed hat. He held a long-barrelled revolver in each hand.
Jack of Shadows levelled his guns at the two nearest thugs, looking between them and their companion. "Change of plan, gents?" he asked, in a slightly muffled Oxford English accent.
The other meanwhile was looking at his friend, as if hed never seen him before.
You didnt ought to say that bro the second thug said
Why not, this aint a crime, sides Im getting tired of this super natural bull ****! the first thug continued. Way I see it, this guy aint going to arrest us, an if he plans to **** us, well were ****** either way right? Might as well be civil, an take to the hills when he moves up the chain -
Quote:The thug appeared to make good on following Yargs orders waving the newly arrived van away, as the other was let out of the loading bay, however when they were some distance away he dialled a number on his mobile phone.Yarg smiled and put his claws away again. "good boy, ow get out of here, Bathory wants the packages moved to new coordinates, heroes will be moving here soon and she dont want it traced back to her". Yarg hands him a piece of paper with an address written on it. "spread the word, the packages get moved to this locale, quick as, you hear?"
Yarg disappeared again, climbing up the walls of the alley back to the roof, heading for the loading bay.
A brief hurried conversation and the van stopped, the unconscious vampire was dragged from the back of the van, and stuffed down a storm drain, dumping them into Paragon Citys busy sewer system.
The thugs had received new orders, return to the isles.
---------------------------
The loading bay was under a thin ridged tin roof, more for ease of fixing it, if the patchwork marks of repairs were anything to go buy, various crates and debris from packaging were scattered around the cement floored room, though in the center of the room was a slight dip in the floor, where a ridged metal section replaced the cement, it was wider than the previously used vans, and longer too.
Against one wall is a touch screen computer, the screen of which is glowing a cold, sterile blue in the darkness. -
Quote:No need to be so hasty man! he looked around as once more there was an impatient beep from the factory Listen, some rich lady hired us all, she called herself Countess Bathory, maybe she was lying, the amount of money she paid us? She could have called herself Wonder Woman!Yarg began to laugh queitly but darkly, raising his claws up. "i had hoped you would try to decieve me again, now i get to play with your human body" Yarg grinned for a moment. "and I dont believe you, because the Countess sent me here to find out just who is trying to frame her. Now one last chance to tell me who owns this place, or I make you wish you had told me, because no matter what your bosses threaten you with, I can do so much worse". With this Yarg snapped his jaw right infront of the man's face, his sharp teeth making cracking sounds as visible fish bones broke under the pressure.
He glanced around, as the scene became briefly illuminated by the head lights of the arriving van, the thug gulped at the prospect of upcoming violence.
Okay... as far as we know... we are working for Countess Bathory, youre working for Bathory, were on the same side here... so Ill let you in on the secret, after all youre here to inspect the place right? he looked past the demon, to where the van had pulled up, he hadnt spotted the hidden Jack, nor had the vans occupants.
To get under this place, you need to head into the loading bay, and press the button labeled Crab apples on the delivery computer -
((Some time before Ocean Farm))
The device made a squealing noise as it span, jerking as it hit its limits, pulsing with lights as it began to spin back up its restraints...
Idly Tomb toyed with the Yoyo, using it more as something to do, rather than deriving any pleasure from it. She was dwarfed by the black leather chair, which sat throne like in the centre point of the room, one leg dangling over an arm of the chair, she looked through business reports.
She glanced up at an array of monitors and screens, before returning back to her reports, a second later she looked back up again.
“The ****?” she asked, dropping from the chair to walk closer to the screen.
On a screen a man dressed in a form hugging, sandy brown spandex suit, glances around quickly, he rolls forward, on another of the monitors, he scythes the legs out from under a guard, rolling and elbow dropping the burly security operative keeping him down. Rising to his feet his sprints off screen.
Tomb stared incredulously at the screen... it couldn’t be...
A flying kick takes down another security guard, another reaches for his gun only to fall twitching to the fall as a ribbon taser hits him.
No one would...
He paused at a pair of doors, pressing something to them and rolling along the wall.
Tomb turned as the doors exploded inwards, ears ringing she stares in open shock at the figure striding heroically into the room.
“Do’er of injustice, quiver now in fear, for justice is here for you! Tremble now at the might of Mister Mongoose!” he announced in a sing song voice.
Tomb’s mind flashed to all her current schemes, but.. .they hadn’t been rumbled yet... had they?
“Agent of C.H.A.O.S put up your hands and come quietly!” he announced staring her down with the patented mongoose stare.
“Sorry what? Who?” Tomb was still staring at the horror that is a man in spandex, without a cup.
“The Central Hierarchy for Outlaws, Anarchists and Shadowy-figures?” he seemed less sure of himself.
Tomb shook her head.
“Never heard of them.” She admitted
The man deflated.
“Oh... well sorry about all this... to the Mongoosecopter away!” with that said he sprinted away back the way he had came.
Tomb picked up her phone, and dialed a number into it.
“Hello? I’d like to buy some doors, please.” -
The vans are outfitted/modified goods vans, and thus have a dividing wall between the drivers cab and the goods area.
The one being ridden on has two people up front, and one in the back keeping watch over the unconscious vampire.
The passenger door window is down. -
Quote:Set wise? He'd be a MM with 40+ Arachnos themed pets, air strikes and crowd control that lasted days if not months.I dunno, I've had that problem recently too, when it never used to happen. I guess they'll fix it at some point...
And, on this topic, what sets would a Commander have then? Because, by all accounts, we can get all the Arachnos powers, bar the Tarantula ones and a few shotgun blasts. -
Yeah that one doesn't hold up either, since there isn't 'one' powerset that defines vampires.
Some cultures/myths give them Super Strength and enhanced reflexes and senses, SS/SR brute there or any of the weapon sets used with supernatural skill, Some give them regeneration, so obviously Regeneration. Others give them powers related to the mind, so that's controllers and doms of the mind kind.
Some myths claim they study magic, so that's pretty much all the power sets accounted for.
Other myths/stories claim rather than magic, they use alien technology, or stuff far more advanced than humans have, so that is all the power sets.
Edit to add:
Does any one know how to stop the boards randomly logging me out, I'm telling it to keep me logged in. -
Since the ignore system doesn't work when you log out of the boards.
FFM You are entirely wrong.
How can vampires not be available to players, When there is a costume piece called Vampire Ears?
