Thanks Nalrok but, as I posted, both Command-Tab and Command-Enter cause the same issue.
Pan: Your link from CuppaManga does seem to describe exactly what I'm seeing. Frustrating to buy a brand new top-of-the-line Mac to experience UltraMode and I can't play the game.

Hi folks. I'm hoping one of you can help with this.
I just got a new iMac and City of Heroes works fine until I switch out to another application (either using Command-TAB or Command-Enter) and then back into COH: after that, the screen is just a solid orangeish color. My character still seems to be in the game as I can hear the game sounds fine, but the view (and user interface) are completely gone. Once it's in this weird mode I have to force quit to get out of the application.
I've tried various graphics setting and resolutions but nothing has helped.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,

Sounds fun! Well worth a drive up from the South Bay.

The Server Status page says that the servers are all up and running and yet I (we) cannot log in. I'm really glad I decided to check the forums before I took the game's advice and starting futzing with my internet connection, rebooting the wireless box, etc.
How about making the server status page reflect reality? IT'S IMPORTANT.

This is a very nice surprise, I'm liking it. Seems like people are assuming that we'll all get the Stamina inherent power at level one -- we may not get it until level 20. And Health at 14, and Swurdle at level 6. Just guessing...
I hope (and assume) we can slot it though! It would be... bad... if we could not.

I've been playing Going Rogue since its soft launch and had no difficulties until my characters reached the second zone. After that, random crashes--on the order of one or two per hour--were the order of the day. And by crashes I mean I had to Cntl+Alt+Del and close the application then launch the application again. Often the crashes would occur when I left the Trading House but sometime it would just happen when I was traveling to or from a mission.
I verified all the files thinking that might be the issue, but that didn't help at all.
Here's how I fixed it:
I renamed my pigg file folder (within the directory where City of Heroes is installed) to something imaginative like 'oldpiggs' and then relaunched the game. The game noticed that the pigg files were missing and downloaded them again. This took a while, but I haven't had any crashes since.
Pigg files, as I understand it, are the textures used to make world object look real rather than just a series of colored polygons. One or more of those textures must have been corrupt and whenever it was loaded into memory (say when I was zoning from the Trading House into Imperial City) there was a good chance my copy of the app would crash.
Perhaps the Devs can make the 'verify files' option a bit more robust so that it verfies that the files are correct, not just "present". Embedding a hash value into the file perhaps?
Anyway, I hope this helps someone if they start seeing the same issue.
Going Rogue is EVEN MORE AWESOME without random crashes. ;-)

Hmm. I was hoping to see something addressing the random crashes I'm seeing in Imperial City--especially when leaving the Trading House. I have no such issues in Nova Praetoria.
It's very frustrating to have a approx. 1 in 3 chance of the game crashing every time I leave the Trading House.

I'm enjoying my Electric Control/Force Field Controller. It's certainly slower-going to level than the scrappers I'm used to playing, but it's still very fun. Besides, I'm in no rush to dodge past all the new level 1 - 20 content!

Quote:I gotta agree here. I like the reward system as it is and -- even though not all the rewards are as cool/useful/fun as I'd like -- there are some real gems in the list that I have to look forward to.It's kinda funny, but I see a lot of people complaining that new people playing the game get turned off or quit playing because of the Veteran Reward system. Maybe I am completely off base (don't really believe I am but it is marginally possible) but I have talked to a lot of new players and will continue to do so and they all LIKE the Veteran Reward system. As a matter of fact I have heard NOTHING but praise for it. For those that are complaining, try actually talking to these people for yourself and see how far off base you are. Easiest way to find them by the way is to watch the help channel.

Swell. If I had any characters in SGs that might be useful.
But I don't, so it isn't... :P

I'll be at Comic-Con but will miss this event due to a prior engagement that evening. I'll be sure to pester, er, visit you all at the booth though!

Cool stuff. I hope the Syndicate logos are unlockables for our costumes.
I also like how the three members of the Syndicate in the screenshot are hovering an inch or two off the ground. Must be that new level six power: Subtle Hover.

Quote:Hurm. Any chance of allowing other formats like PNG, TIFF, or BMP? My non-thousand dollar editor of choice (Acorn for OS X) doesn't support PSD or TGA.
Submitted in .psd format (to preserve layers) if possible; otherwise, .tga format
Thanks!
Looking forward to seeing what people come up with!

Quote:Thanks for the info steveb. The GT 330M is a tough one to nail down, as it and the 325M are what Nvidia has aimed at being the most attractive to buyers, so there are few variants available that will affect performance. It'll probably be able to handle it fairly well at mid-range settings, depending on screen resolution. Don't expect to max out the settings, as the 330M is a mid-level card, but it does depend on the version being used. The 330M has both a GDDR2 and GDDR3 version, and the GDDR2 version can be significantly slower than the GDDR3 version. .....
I checked Apple's web site, http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs-17inch.html, and found that the 17" MacBook Pro has a "NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR3 memory" so performance may not be too shabby, especially if I reduce the screen resolution a bit. If only I could afford the beast.

Apple announced their new i7 MacBook Pro computers today with the following video card info:
Quote:Any ideas/guesses as to how good the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M would be at handling Ultra Mode? The graphics chip has been bumped to NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, with a choice of graphics memory options. This replaces the NVIDIA 9400M and 9600M GT cards of the previous generation.
Thanks,

Devices for me as well. Caltrops helps survivability until Cloaking Device becomes available. I'm at level 26 currently--no need to rush to 50.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I think I'll try my hand at a Rad/Elec blapper.

Quote:I'd bet a fair amount of influence/infamy that Going Rogue will eventually get rolled into the "core" City of Heroes package just like City of Villains did -- but who wants to wait a year or two for that? I'm having enough trouble waiting another two hours before I can head home from work and make my new DP blaster!I'm about to pre-purchase, but i have two accounts.. so i'm thinking i'll get it for just one account for now, then wait and see if Rogue goes the way of Villains and is eventually included at no extra fee.

This is the one detail I'm not crazy about. Right now, the (V)EATs are badges of honor -- we worked hard to earn them and it seems like they'll be cheapened somewhat if anyone capable of getting Stamina can unlock them.
I can't help but remember the Star Wars: Galaxies MMO whose Epic Archetype, Jedi, took a dedicated player a year or more of grinding to unlock. There was a certain amount of displeasure when the Jedi class was opened up as a starting profession with no prerequisites.
Be that as it may, I'm looking forward to Issue 17 and hope my computer is up to the task of running Ultra Mode in all of its pixelly goodness.

Quote:Well at least your server got the event. Most of us weren't so lucky.See, I actually think the thing was handled unfairly. I logged in and was almost instantly notified that there was an invasion in Atlas, so I hightailed it over there, quickly got myself a team and started hunting bombs (Which I might add were strangely scarce) and then when the invasion began in earnest we laid into them and had a jolly time (RIDICULOUS command lag aside though that really should be looked into somehow), only to find out after I spent the time fighting them off and looking forward to GMs or a mothership or what have you that all those things had happened in KINGS ROW were I was not aware an invasion was happening.
We did not receive the same treatment in Atlas, nor were we awarded the gold titles. If they were going to test a new event with special stuff like that it should have been in ONE zone, instead of two. I logged on today specifically expecting something from this and really looking forward to it, and I missed out because I picked the wrong zone. Not cool. I'd hope that there will be a repeat on virtue sometime soon because my blaster there wants a go at it, and she was downright cheated out of it.
If Paragon Studios wants to select one or two servers for beta testing a new event then they should say that's what they're doing. But instead of beta tests we get this all wrapped up as "special content for special servers" at the same time as free server transfers are implemented. Makes a cynical person wonder if they're trying to get people to move or something...

Quote:The problem is that the RSS feed is broken for many readers including Google Reader. The problem, according to http://feedvalidator.org/, seems to be something to do with the RFC822 format of the dates.Erm, the dev digest (and community digest) has been working for a while now. Even has an RSS feed.
