Short update: My Brute on Liberty made it to level 50 last night! No special ding event, just playing through MA arcs nominated for my Player Awards.
-
Finalists for the Short Arcs category are posted. Thanks to GrinningSpade for helping me with the judging. Congratulations to all of the finalists, as well as the honorable mentions that didn't make the cut:
The "Easter Basket" #35335 @Simplifly
Trademark Infringement #2220 @wrong number
Airhead also suggested that the awards should have a nickname. Any thoughts/suggestions on what to call them? -
Bah forgot about this, was too busy working on the judging for my own event I'm running in the Stories and Lore section (see sig). Looks like I missed a lot of fun.
-
Glad you all enjoyed Whack a Mole, sorry I couldn't be there to race it with you, I had to run into work today.
-
You know, it would be great to hear the actual Guest Author's thoughts on their experiences making these arcs. The difficulties they had, the surprises, stuff they enjoyed the msot about it, etc.
-
I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you all. I've recieved several rep comments, /tells, and post comments about how much people have enjoyed this contest, and I really appreciate that. Let's keep those votes coming, and the judges and I are doing our best to get the rest of the categories finalized in a timely manner.
-
TO range arc finalists posted. Thanks to Wrong Number and GrinningSpade to help narrow down the finalists.
And congratulations to those arcs nominated that didn't make the cut. They're great arcs as well, check out the Honorable Mentions:
Poi, Demonology, and Everything I Learned From Hellions #164235 @londerwost
The Fireside Poet #189439 @MutaJenn
Soul Train: Origins #9590 @Soul Train -
probably should have posted sooner, but been busy with my own threads.
Gratz on the Dev Choice pick, this is going much better than the last new Dev choice where we all said "who heard of this arc, and why didn't we hear anything about it anywhere." This time it's all smiles and roses. As it should be. Here's to more! -
Let's see where we stand now. By the way, nice stuff everyone! Links go to the wrong place right now, will fix tomorrow.
Hericane + GeneralKnowledge
PeteyCat + obijuan
tuter_king + Blpup
Sailboat + Turkey Lurkey
Hercules + DoktorMechaniker
McBoo + ChristopherRobin
Caemgen + Xzero45
Krystallas + Calash
Clobbertime + Jophiel
PowerStream + Eva Destruction
EnnVee + Larissa Rasputin
bubbawheat + pyro nympho
still some more out there. Sorry I didn't mention this earlier, but if Hercules wants to send his character to Komrade, that's perfectly ok. This is all for fun anyway. -
I've done my best to make this less of a popularity contest as possible. But when I decided to run these awards, I wanted to make it as much by the players as possible. The arcs are chosen by the players, and the winners are decided by the players. I'm staggering listing the finalists so that maybe someone can play the arcs they haven't played before voting on that category. I'm requesting that people vote for two arcs so that at the very least, they played two of the arcs nominated.
If you want to abstain from voting, that's completely up to you. But my suggestion to someone who has limited time: Pick one category that interests you the most and play all of the arcs in that category, and vote in that one category. Voting is open until November 9th. And remember this: If you're a player, you're qualified to vote.
Above all, good luck to everyone that's nominated, and this is all in good fun, so at the very least go out and play some good arcs! -
Yep, just made it in. Submissions for nominations are now closed. Voting is now open in This thread. Only 2 categories have finalists listed at this time, more will be added as they are being judged.
-
I caught and forwarded the typos to Dr. Aeon, and he said they've been corrected today. You should forward the rest to him as well through PM.
-
Voting is officially closed
Thank you everyone for all the great nominations. Now it's time to vote for the winners. Since many people will be voting for their nominations, I would like you to make two votes for each category. Your first choice, and your second choice. Please check out as many of the arcs in each category as you are able to before voting. I will be staggering the announcement of the finalists to help alleviate having such a large number of arcs to choose from, as well as allowing myself and the judges to narrow down the categories two 5 finalists.
Special thanks to Dalghryn for the awards graphics!
Rules for Voting
- You may vote for any number of categories in each post.
- You may only vote once for each category.
- Each category vote should contain a first place and second place vote, and please make it clear which arc is your first choice, and which is the runner up.
- Each first place vote counts as 2 points, each second place vote counts as 1 point. At the end of the voting period (November 9th) the arc in each category with the most points will be the winner.
- The winners will be contacted by global /tell and forum PM where applicable for their prize of 25 million inf transferred to their character of choice.
- Finalists for many categories are still in the process of being judged, and they will be added to the first post of this page, along with a new post when ready.
- There's nothing wrong with voting for your own arc, just be sure to add a second vote as well.
- If you would prefer your vote to be private, make a post here saying that you are making a private vote, and PM me the vote.

Simple enough question, now that we have a wide range of difficulty options, I'm curious as to what everyone has settled down to.
On my mildly IO'd fire/fire/soul Brute @ 49.5, I'm running at +0/x3. It currently seems like a pretty good challenge, with a good number of mobs for my AoEs, but not too difficult for fire's extra squishyness. -
I think the part I like the best about that story is that I'm referred to as 'A "Bubbawheat"'.
-
My newest Burnt Matchstick character, a level 8 (at the time) Dom.
Also, nominated the arc in my player choice awards (see sig - one day left to nominate, voting starts soon) -
Played Mission Awesome today as well, it was pretty fun, a lot of nice callbacks to the Captain Dynamic videos, and also a few typos which I forwarded to Dr. Aeon. It had some pretty nice humor in it and somewhat interesting custom mobs, though they started getting a little tired (as opposed to Quest for Magic which had a different group in each mission, 2 separate custom mobs, Snakes, and Hydra)
As far as who they are, I didn't know who Bill Willingham was, though I've read enough of these threads to see a lot of praise (never heard of Fables either)
I've never seen Red vs. Blue, but I enjoyed the Captain Dynamic videos from Rooster Teeth.
And I've never read PvP, and will probably not end up playing the lolbat one unless I'm on a team that decides to run it. -

Level: 50
Server: Triumph
Origin:
Yep, it's that time, I created yet another Burnt Matchstick to start playing. This one was created in response to Wrong Number's MA team on Triumph, dedicated to having a team to play MA arcs. From my earlier post on lowbie placeholders, I mentioned really liking the alien/robotic look of the dominator, so I decided to recreate her on Triumph, with a few updates. Her powers I went with a combo bright red/bright blue. which gives a nice red/blue/purple mix to it, though the red dominates the color scheme for the most part. I also found a hairstyle that really looks great with the stripe, especially from the back.

I mentioned that I liked how it looks from the back, so I might as well show it off.

The ding moment
A nice gift sketch from Lady Judgement after I just missed another offer from the generous Caemgen. I love how he made her face look more womanly, but still kept touches from the alien face. - Click for larger version.

Updates:
mini update 10/30/09: Been playing this one quite a bit with the other MA arc supergroup-ers. This costume is really really growing on me. I think it's become one of my favorites already.
update 11/15/09: Still enjoying the MA Arc team, a lot of good people there, and playing a lot of good MA arcs. It's been fun. Adding a few more screenshots here too.
update 12/23/09: Haven't been playing quite as much, but did get a second costume with a different color scheme from any other Matchstick so far.
update 3/9/10: She reached level 32 during double XP weekend, even though I was running AE arcs without double XP. She became my first character to get recharge intensive pets. And so far, I've always been on a team with some +recharge so they've been perma out of the box. I'm so spoiled.
update 4/3/11: Hit level 43 earlier today with the MA Superteam slowly getting closer to 50, and it's pretty much been solely with AE arcs... non-farm ones.
update 08/21/11: And I reached level 50 during some tip missions in Peregrine Island. Yep, she also became a Rogue in the meantime, though I've been doing both Villainous and Rogue tips in the meantime. She's still a little villainous at heart. -
low level villains can't buy recipe rolls in RWZ AE building.
Tested on a level 8 dom (and again at lvl 13), also a level 22 corruptor.
A level 22 tank *was* able to buy a roll.
I had 0 recipes, and went to cap AE and was able to buy a recipe roll. -
One last day before nominations are closed. I will be posting the voting thread (or threads) tomorrow around midnight Eastern time.
Question: should I make one post for all voting, or make a new thread for each category. I will be staggering the announcements of the finalists to allow fewer choices to have to play through at a time for voting(so someone wanting to play all the arcs before voting has 5-10 arcs to play instead of 40). I will be posting the categories with 5 or less nominations right away, then more categories as soon as the judges narrow them down. -
I played Quest for Magic and one of the things I noticed throughout is the really good writing. Both in mission briefings and bios for the bosses. The vampire boss in the second mission was pretty noticable. The twist at mission four I saw coming a mile away, but it was still handled pretty well. I found a few typos and errors, but Dr. Aeon said that they've been fixed. Also a nice inside joke about Azuria's vaultkeeping skills makes me wonder if he's a CoX player, or if he got that info from another source. Good map choices, enemy choices, and an all around good arc. I enjoyed it.
Pic of his custom mobs in mission 2. I'm in the middle there somewhere.

Vote #2: Lounge Crooner
Quote:No worries, I was reluctant to enter this contest at all since I had recently won the earlier one. Just out of curiosity, which one is your favorite? Will be making an update to that thread soon if you would rather post there.Bubbawheat - Part of the reason you didn't make the cut is that I like some of your other Matchstick toons better than this one... Not sure if that's fair, since I don't know everyone elses toons, but I was hoping you'd do a second entry with one of my more favorite ones before the deadline... Throw in the fact you won another of my contests and I'm afraid I found it a bit too easy to cut ya. Sorry. -

Only 5, but it's a start.
