A new update for Matchstick Women #3369. A brand new non-combat mission #2. I put this in to try and expand the lore of the Matchstick Women, and to utilize something that I always enjoyed on several other arcs I've played. Also, made a few minor changes to boss details and clues in mission #3.
Feedback I'm looking for:
Does this information help to give more depth to the women and the cult? Does it explain any more questions you might have? Is there any more questions you still have that might be able to be answered in the new mission #2? Thanks for the help! -
Well, Whack-a-Mole #2711 is 1-54 (custom bosses -> Lts & EB -> Boss), though I've tested it with a level 8 dominator and was able to complete it. One more week for the Halloween Edition, afterwards it will be updated once again, not exactly sure to what though. Maybe Thanksgiving? Look out! It's a turkey Mole!
Also, Ctrl + Alt + Reset! #137561 is 15-30, since you mentioned accepting arcs you've played on other characters. -
Gratz! And well deserved.

I didn't read all the responses to this, but I tried the "other game" during their free weekend, and I wasn't that impressed with the tossable objects. The biggest problem was targetting. When you have a contact next to a streetlight, it becomes a little more difficult (not much mind you) to select the contact instead of the streetlight.

No, not the bench.

not the streetlamp either!

WTH! why did they make chunks of pavement clickable!!!

Finally, now to attack the Helli-

I'm running a multi-server contest (see sig) where I'm offering inf as a prize. I remember there was someone from the markets that would transfer inf across servers and sides for a fee. Are they still doing around and available? The contest is over on the 9th and I'll be figuring out the specifics shortly afterwards.

I tend to use it as a mini-PM system, and a game. My "fun" way of using it is by repping someone with no rep (or occasionally 0 rep when it balances out, which I've seen twice) and leaving my comment as "Death to the grey rep blocks!" Personally, I've gotten generally positive rep with a couple "wth?" negative reps thrown in. And most rep has come from the top link in my sig.

Votes for best comedy. Once again a tough choice that I thought was going to be easy, but I finally played the Vernon Von Grun arc and really enjoyed it. In the end, I picked my choices based on the current results, going with the underdogs rather than the current leader by a fair margin.
1st: Captain Dynamic, the Great, Faces the Great Face
2nd: Vernon Von Grun's Extraordinary Extradimensional Excursions -
Out of curiosity, will you be continuing the Player Choice nominees after the voting period is over?
-
I changed it at some point in time to allow for one extra weekend of play.
I think I will extend the deadline for voting *only for the multi-part arcs* for one additional week and possibly 1-2 more of the categories that were posted late. Let me know what you think of this. Of the later categories, Comedy has 11 total votes, Mechanics has 13 total votes, and Serious has 14 total votes. For comparison, DO range arcs have the most votes with 21. -
Thanks for the review. You and Lithrei have helped give me some more direction to help make this arc the best I can make it. A few quick changes I made today:
Choking Matchsticks (troller powerset) have a cloud of choking grey smoke to help them stand out more.
Matchbook Collector and Burnt Match have their own new costume, and bios with some additional backstory and explanation for those looking for it.
The Peculiar Woman (typo fixed btw) has a new bio in her second appearance stating that possibly the Matchstick Women started the fire in order to unlock her latent powers.
Quote:Must be buggy, checked and it's the way it's supposed to be.The burnt match has an individual compass objective: "Stop the Matchstick Collector" - maybe you reversed them by accident?
Quote:It's kind of odd that you DESTROY the bomb - wouldn't disarming it make more sense? -
There's a few really close races going on here, as well as a few strong frontrunners. But still plenty of time to vote.

Check out Dr. Aeon aka. Fearghas's interview at massively.
1) I didn't know Dr. Aeon was Fearghas, gratz to him!
2) around the middle, he mentions that in GR they want to double the filesize of architect files. -
Best Epic level arc. Finally got around to playing Most Important Thing with my Time Shifter character (his playthrough post will come after the results are in). All the arcs are really great. My choice was made mostly due to minor nits I had with each of the other three arcs. The two I'm voting for I loved from beginning to end, the story, the gameplay, the character's voices, and the concepts. The ones I didn't, I still loved for most of those reasons.
1st: One Million Eyes: Great concept for the contact, it's very unique, well done, and kept me interested throughout. Even has great busy text.
2nd: A Warrior's Journey: I'm a big fan of L5R, and it was great to see that style of story translated to City of Heroes. I also enjoyed Flower Knight's voice, and growth through the arc.
All that's left is comedy and multi-arcs for me now, though I may abstain from the multi-arcs myself as I don't tend to have the patience for it (still haven't played through CoW 1 even though I loved CoW 2) -
A prediction for one that wasn't announced:
Updated team search.
Why? Because we will need functionality to search for both Heroes and Villains.
Why not? Because it would be helpful to also be able to search for team leaders, and team size, and possibly other functionality. -
SO arc votes. Again a very very tough call, though for a slightly different reason. My top two picks are my choices for different reasons, and it's very hard for me to pick one over the other, especially since I can look at the results and see how my vote affects the current results in real time, and it is currently close enough that one vote does affect the results. So here goes:
1st: Teen Phalanx Forever
2nd: Astoria in D Minor
Good luck to both of you, this is one of the closest categories, and still is. -
Alright, Whack-a-Mole #2711 was just now submitted to CoH Mission Review. Feel free to take a look at it.
And don't forget your mallet! -
Arc Name: Whack-a-Mole! Special Halloween Edition
Arc ID: 2711
Keywords: Comedy, Challenge, Solo-Friendly
Faction: Custom
Creator Global/Forum Name: @Bubbawheat
Difficulty Level: Moderate
Synopsis: A fun little mini-challenge to whack 10 Mole bosses within 15 minutes on 2 maps. For a limited time, the moles in the first map have dressed up for Halloween. Also, look out for a Liberty server inside joke.
Morality: Neutral
Time to play: 15 minutes maximum -
Voting for the best TO arc:
1st: The Marconeville Horror - I had a little bit of trouble with the final boss being possibly difficult for many TO range characters. But I was able to beat him as a duo with no enhancements. And the arc was good enough to put it in the top spot for me.
2nd: Day Job Hell - This one was really fun, even if it could use a little extra copy-editing, though I never hold that against any arc. And it helped that the character I picked to run it "Rubber Poo Monster" was an absolute perfect fit for it. -
AE. Not the farms, not the random arcs, but the good arcs. And some of the best, picked by the players, are in the link in my sig.

Just got to view the finished version of my commission that I won from Caemgen's contest from Taclobanon. It looks really amazing. Thank you so much again Caemgen, it turned out awesome. Check it out here, and on my blaster's post above.

Quote:That's pretty much what I was going for. the contact sets the tone, and the nav bar and dialog tells you what you're doing, and you find out as you go.
I felt a little unsure of what was going on as i entered the first mission, but that also added to the atmosphere,
Quote:Looking back however, i feel like a LOT of questions go unanswered. I feel that the story is incomplete, but not to the extent where it's left up to the player to fill in the blank spots. It feels incomplete in a less acceptable way.
Quote:*** I loved the line describing the faces of the matchstick women. Immediately i saw the dramatic potential of this part of the story, i would be happy to play through an entire mission that explores this idea... then again 100kb...
Quote:How do these ladies get their powers? Is it the suits, or an innate ability..
*How do they know which women are suitable to become a "Match"? Is it just fate, or is it a privelege saved only for the strong..?
*What was Emily's main goal?
*Who was the peculiar woman, and the other women you rescue on map 2..?
*Where exactly does the player fit into the story, did i see the mysterious flame by chance as i was walking down the street somewhere in Galaxy City, or did i just stumble into a virtual expression of someone else's experience while browsing AE on my day off?
The women have their powers innately (I tried to use the Peculiar Woman to show that they are unlocking her natural powers). The group uses some yet-undetermined method to find them for recruiting. -
Even if i17 does come with Going Rogue, I'm still curious as to what it will contain *for free* rather than the paid expansion Going Rogue.

Quote:Just out of curiosity, how has the Player Awards impacted the plays on your two arcs nominated there? (Blap, Blap, Blappy Day, and Poor Taste)?I hesitate to comment on this since Death to Disco! was a nominee, so I will just stick to the facts.
I have for quite a awhile now stopped actively promoting my arcs or even asking for reviews of them (Blappy being the exception since it has been recently reviewed).
During the week before Death to Disco! was nominated it received 0 plays/ratings. After the nominations were announced and before the winners were selected (Thursday - Saturday) it received 1 play/rating. Since the winners were announced it has gotten 0 plays/ratings.

Quote:Geez, that's the second typo for that arc. It must not like me.Edit:The ID for A Warrior's Journey: the Flower Knight Task Force on the first post is wrong btw Bubba, the last digit should be a '4'.
And, no headaches or pulling out hairs here. I've enjoyed every minute of this, including all the drama - it's fun to read.
I think one additional set of statistics I will be posting with the final results will be the voting calculated based on Dalghryn's method of voting: authors voting in their own category get only 1 second place vote. It's like assuming that everyone votes for themselves as first place, so you just negate all of those votes. I like seeing all these statistics, and already have macros in a spreadsheet tracking most scoring methods. It's interesting to see how one vote right now can change rankings in different ways depending on how I'm scoring the votes. -
1) I decided to run this contest because I thought it would be fun to showcase a lot of good arcs that might not have been eligible for the official awards, or that players might like better than the devs, as well as to showcase and advertise a lot of the great arcs that are out there, which it has done in spades.
2) I made the rules to help minimize as many possible flaws as I could find, as well as making things as fair as I could make them. Voting for yourself was one that I thought best left to the decision of the author themselves rather than making it mandatory.
3) Currently, there are only 2 votes that disrupt the rules by only choosing one candidate. If they choose to add a second, that would be great, and please do so in a new post rather than edit your old post as I am tracking votes as we go. But I am just too easygoing of a guy to either force them to add another vote, or not count their vote at all. And this is different than Eva's wanting to choose a third arc, since I feel very few people will find a category so lacking to only choose one arc, but I feel many people would vote for a third if they had that choice.
4) Remember, this is for fun. Yes, there's a prize involved, both in inf and bragging rights, but the most important part is to play some great arcs, which everyone is doing.
Thank you all for your support, and I also don't mind seeing discussion based on the rules. I'm not taking any of it personally. I've been getting too much positive feedback for all of this to do that.
