May's Theme is Anonymous
Rules
All types of visual art are acceptable for this month's theme. Screenshot manipulations, sketches, graphic design, etc. So long as they incorporate this month's theme into the work.
1. Use City of Heroes/Villains Characters- This is, afterall, a CoX Fan Art competition, so I expect you guys to keep that in mind. If there's nothing relating to City of Heroes/Villains in your entry, you will be disqualified.
2. Keep It PG-13- All entries this month must be postable to these boards without a 2 click.
3. Deadlines- All entries MUST be submitted to me via e-mail (Bubbawheat at msn.com) or PM linked to an image hosting site (not deviantArt) by Thursday May 26th by Midnight Eastern US time. Voting will begin by Friday May 27th, held here on the CoH boards. The pieces that I put up for a vote have been personally verified by me, so if you disagree with their qualifications, please take it up with me rather than the artists.
4. Anonymous theme: This month's theme is Anonymous, this is twofold. The piece should represent the "anonymous" theme somehow. Also, all the pieces will be submitted directly to me so I can post them anonymously. The artists' names will be attributed to their pieces after the voting is over. Many of you may have a recognizable style, so this is your chance to try something new. There is no penalty for sticking with your natural style if you prefer, of course.
5. There will be no eliminations until June. Each month artists will accumulate points that will be used to help avoid elimination, or grant other benefits.
6. Points- Entry points: Artists gain 10 points each month where they submit a piece.
Early bird points: Artists gain an additional 2 points each month where they submit a "finished" piece before the 15th of the month. Finished pieces can still be modified, but any major additions after the 15th will negate the early bird points. Major additions include adding color, or adding an elaborate background.
Place points: After voting, each artist will gain points based on how they place in the final standings. 1st place gains 10 points (plus 2 bonus points for winning), 2nd gains 9, 3rd gains 8, etc. Ties each gain the amount of points for that place. Places after 10th gain 0 points.
7. Prizes- The artist with the most votes each month will receive 10 million inf sent to them through in game E-mail. The overall winner of the year will receive 50 million. Thanks to Draggynn for his donation to the prize fund.
8. Uses for points:
5 points: Head Start - find out the next month's theme in advance.
15 points: A Little More Time - Allows an entry to be submitted and/or modified up to 2 days after the deadline. No adjustments will be made for any votes already cast if applicable.
30 points: Overruled! - If your piece is judged as not being within theme, you can overrule the judgement and have your piece placed in the voting thread anyway (This cannot overrule rules #1 or #2)
40 points: Immunity - Grants you immunity from elimination for that month - must be declared before voting begins, and can be declared in private. The top 3 based on votes cannot be eliminated due to a large number of immunity buys.
70 points: Saved - Also grants you immunity from elimination for that month but can be declared after voting is over. You can also declare it before voting begins to avoid elimination due to non-entry. -
In honor of the seventh year anniversary, I'm feeling generous and allowing the late submissions from Defiance Jones and Tartyrsause. Also partly due to a couple more possible dropouts, I'm considering allowing Liz/syrusb to jump in. She's been wanting in for a while, but hasn't made it in until now. There's still May and June to submit before we start losing people for good, and no more Mr. Nice Guy come June, forgetfulness will not be an extenuating circumstance when eliminations are on the line. And no one's completely out of the contest just yet. Next month's theme is Anonymous, full details here.
The Voting
Anyone can vote.
Everyone must vote for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd choice.
1st choice will count as 3 votes, 2nd choice will count as 2 votes, and 3rd choice will count as 1 vote.
Voting will be open until Wednesday night May 4th at midnight Eastern time.
The Points
Everyone gets 10 points for entering.
After the voting is completed, the entrant who got the most votes will get 10 additional points plus 2 bonus points for winning the month, Second place will get 9 points, Third will get 8 points, etc.
Darth Delicious and Liz get 2 bonus points for their "Early Bird" entries.
These points will come into play starting in June.
The winner of this month will also get 10 million inf sent to them in-game through Gleemail.
The Entries
Darth Delicious
The Weekend Honoree
SyrusB / Liz
Lousy Day
Battlewraith
Christopher Robin
Defiance-Jones
Tartyrsause
And not part of the voting, but here's my contribution to this month
-
And submissions are now *closed*. The voting thread will be up sometime tomorrow afternoon.
-
Finally the last minute entries start coming in. Still an hour and a half left to go. Calling you out - CR, Defiance Jones, Tartyr, Airhead!
-
Hilarious, thank you for that.

Quote:Out of the dozen or so trials I have done. There has only been one where I have *not* gotten a thread drop *before* I get to a single mob. There needs to be a way to skip the cutscene.
It is very frustrating to zone into the BAF and get stopped in my tracks for the 80th time while that cutscene plays.
By the time I actually get *into* the Trial, half the robots in the first encounter have been defeated and I can look forward to a reward of Uncommon or lower. -
And here I thought "Off Duty" would be an "easy" theme. Here's hoping for a lot of last-minute entries, and remember, no one's officially "out" until after June's voting.
And even though most people are still working on April (or putting it off) the theme for May is "Anonymous". Is it harder or easier to be anonymous in a city of heroes (or villains)? There will also be a special submission process similar to March, the full thread will be posted sometime after this month's voting thread goes up. -
Maybe it's an unexpected issue with smaller league sizes. Just trying to get all the information. As for my small part, I've ran one BAF on a full team with a tanker and got an uncommon.
-
Quote:Sounds like you're not really participating, but speeding through it. How many mobs did you defeat (as a League, not as a character)? *That* is where the participation lies (I would guess), whether that's a good idea or bad idea remains to be seen. (BTW, what did everyone else get? Commons? Uncommons? Rare or Very Rares?)8 men Lambda.
Sabotage complete with 10 acids, 10 nades.
Marauder dead in 50 seconds.
FOUR people on the team got the 10 threads table...
(Ironically, I crashed and got an uncommon.)
I guarantee you they were here, working their *** off, and doing a fine job. Participation is still borked. -

I believe this one does the best job of highlighting their similarities in structure, but also some of their differences. It also sounds the best, I was looking for one of these a while back. A much closer match in melody and sound is Katy Perry's ET and t.A.T.u.'s All the Things She Said.

Finished filming the next arc. I generally enjoyed it, but had some issues with it. I suppose that's one good thing about playing the arc more than once, I can see how different characters approach things differently.
I'm considering skipping the playthrough video and going straight to the On Your M-Arc. Does anyone like watching the playthroughs? They often seem to get slightly more views than the reviews, but it's harder to tell where those views are coming from. Hope to have it done by this week. -

I haven't totally given up. Tried a couple times again today on Pinnacle. The first time, it didn't seem like I was getting any interest so I gave up until later. Then I started advertising again on Pinnbadges and sending tells using the team /search tool. After doing this for about 30 minutes, the popup window came up showing 16 members waiting in the queue. 1 declined, and 2 others didn't click in so we ran with 13 members. We cut it close on the warehouse side of things with the smaller team in there, but we managed to get all items from both sides and successfully defeated Marauder.
The biggest issue is still the fact that you are waiting in the blind. There's no way to know exactly how many people are in the queue, and how long before it starts you with less than the maximum players. -
Looking at some of the builds and focusing on melee damage at the moment.
Common choices include:
Kinetic Combat - Caps at 35, Health +1.5%, S/L /M Defense - 4 slots
Mako's Bite - Caps at 50, 3% Damage, 1.5% Health, Ranged Defense - 6 slots - avg 10M crafted (and I currently own 3)
Smashing Haymaker - Caps at 35, Health +1%, M Defense 1% - 4 slots - avg 5M crafted
Touch of Death - Caps at 40, Health +1.5%, Damage 2.5%, M Def 3.75% - 6 slots - avg 15-20+M crafted (currently own 2)
Crushing Impact - Caps at 50, Health +1%, Recharge +5%, Psi Resist +2.5% - 6 slots - avg 3-5M crafted (currently own 2)
From there, looking at 1 Mako 6 slotted, 1 Touch of Death 6 slotted, 2 Crushing Impact 6 slotted.
Would gain: 5% Health, 5.5% Damage, slight various Def/Psi resist. -
One thing you don't mention is that Healing Flames has a toxic resistance component to it. In the lower levels you can also somewhat use it pre-emptively if you're facing Vahzilok. It helps a little.

I'd heard [Melt Armor] was pretty good... in Thermal, but I didn't realize it wasn't all that great as a tanker. Like I said in the original post, I'm pretty happy with everything except [Breath of Fire], [Temperature Protection], and apparently now [Melt Armor].
As far as what I'm looking for, I don't need tons of survivability, but I'd like to improve survivability and wouldn't mind also improving offense. -
And yet you continue to spend much more than 5-10 minutes reading and responding to this thread. If you don't want to help, that's fine, but I'd rather not sit here and discuss over and over about why you don't want to help me.
-
The time's running out folks, only one more week to go. Let's see some more submissions!

I guess that includes me *goes back to work* -
A few things:
Thanks to Jericho for the build, I'll check through it and see what looks good to try and fit into my build.
Syntax: I do think you were being a little harsh, but you did make me think about what I really wanted as far as advice goes. Yes my current build is very random - it's a starting point. Also, I'd rather not respec "right now" because I don't want to create a bunch of empty slots in preparation for "my new build" which I plan on building for a good long while. (P.S. we're getting another freespec in a week? Didn't realize that.)
I realize that what I'm looking for is advice on what sets I should start getting that I can slot right away and start getting use out of immediately (especially if they're inexpensive), but will also be needed in a better all-around build. I'm looking to improve my survivability, and if possible increase damage slightly.
New Dawn: Yes, I'm having fun. This is my third fire/fire to hit 50 (previous being a Brute and a Blaster, with a Dom closing in at 43) and it's currently the character that's getting the most playtime - I'm a recovering alt-o-holic, it's been 105 days since I rolled a new alt (number is made up, but probably not too far from reality). -
I'd just rather not deal with the hassle of /respeccing, I know I used one to respec into inherent fitness, but not sure if it was before or after the most recent freespec.
I'm using him to play general content and tank occasionally. Going cardiac alpha, I could add a couple more toggles, but is the defense given by [Combat Jumping] better than the slow resistance given by [Temperature Protection]? I suppose that answer depends on what I'm fighting at the moment, though. -
Trying to figure out a good direction to go for my recently turned 50 fire/fire/fire tank. I'd like to stick to the less expensive route, but if there's some good stuff worth spending the money for, I'll keep an eye out for it.
Current build (don't have Mids, prefer to build little by little based on availability, drops, and current market, and ask advice rather than plan the whole thing out in advance.)
Basically have all the primary/secondary powers except [Taunt], Fighting pool for [Tough], Speed pool, and [Char], [Melt Armor], and [Fireball] from Pyre.
I'd rather not respec, but it's not out of the question. I easily could lose [Breath of Fire] and could possibly lose [Temperature Protection]. And I could eventually respec to re-order slots if needed.
Current Alpha: Cardial uncommon
Current S/L resist: 71%, E/NE 50%, Cold 30%
Thanks for any advice!
(Mids code taken from Titan Sentinel, if someone wanted to repost in easier to read form, it would be appreciated)
