Quote:I too would love to see a cite for this, because it seems completely absurd. I can think of dozens of repetitive activities where a sub-70% is normal. For repetitive activity, the human brain/mind expects to see a 70% success rate or higher. This probably has to do with evolutionary/survival reasons and is pretty much 'hardwired' into human biology.
Once success falls below that threshold, repeating the task becomes progressively more uncomfortable, psychologically speaking. Different people tolerate low success rates differently; some will quit trying, some will keep on and attempt to find 'other ways' to bring the success rate up to 70%, etc. -
You should be nice to the DB server. The DB server can eat your characters on a whim. Do not taunt happy fun DB server.

Actually, there's a fairly common bug where you resub, come back and find that the rent is due but the contact won't let you pay it. Not a big deal, but it takes a GM to fix, so you'll have to file a ticket.

Quote:That was his reaction to seeing the prices.I have always wondered why Ghost of Scrapyard always spontaneously died when he got to the BM.
Anyhoo, as annoying as the powers are, they don't impede the function of the market.
Pets, on the other hand - when pets make it impossible to click on (or find) the vendor, or they push you out of interaction range... that's an issue. Fortunately, it's not that common, but it should still be addressed. -
Quote:And your basis for assuming that Ex Libris' number was at the lower bound?Ex, before she left, cited the pvp community as rougly 10% at i11 beta so its not hard to argue that between, lets say i5 and i11, the community fluctuated between 20-10%. personal experience doesn't equate to fact.
It seems it would be just as easy to argue that the community fluctuated between 5-10%.
It's a meaningless number anyway, though, because we don't know what she defined as 'community'. -
Quote:Two words: Arena Architect.Base raids were incredibly fun to me and were just the sort of instanced PvP you are describing.
On very rare ocassions, there have been glitches where villains were placed into hero missions (or vice-versa) and they were able to fight each other.
I think the best PvP raid type mission would be a safeguard/mayhem. The villains have to rob the bank and get away, eliminating all obstacles in their way, while the heroes attempt to stop them. -
Fixing PvPers.
Sure, keeps the population down.

Thank you, I'll be here all week.
But seriously, bolting PvP onto a game that was never designed for it was a really bad decision, and I don't see any reason why NC should invest resources in 'fixing' it for miniscule returns. I think if you're a hardcore CoX PvPer, your best bet is to be praying for CoH2 - if they build it in from the start they have at least some chance of getting it right. -

Quote:I assume that sarcasm and insulting people were taught as the best way to get questions answered at "Harvard?"I have no clue whatsoever about "client-server" architecture :-) Why don't you share your knowledge on the subject. I'd like to hear what you know about client server though. What tier is this "client-server" application built on? Explain to me to what the application and database servers are in use? I learned a lot of things at Harvard but absolutely nothing about Client Server. I envy guys like you who "claim" to know it all.
Just in case someone who is actually interested in learning something reads this thread, CoX is a client-server application, which means that your client gets data from NCSoft's server. It's irrelevant where other people in the game are logging in from, because you never connect to their machines directly. Therefore, the only network latency at issue is your own.
Just something I know from doing "network operations" for a "living." -

If I recall, as long as you're willing to forego everything else, you can squeeze it all on an 8x8 plot. However, if you want storage items (more than 8) and/or a med-bay, figure on 8x12.

Quote:In a perfect world, I don't see a problem with an added level of power and control.Wow... Never thought such a simple thing... one that many people have asked for in the past, such as adding a level of power and control between between combo level and the 700K prestige level would meet with such firm resistance... from my fellow players!
This, however, is not a perfect world. The reality is that dev time is limited, and dev time spent on bases is practically non-existent. In this reality, I would rather the devs spend time working on just about any other addition to bases than this. -
Is there any evidence at all that this assertion is true? Do people really abandon SGs because of lack of progress in the base? I'm thinking that people who do that were probably blind-invited (or very nearly so), and have no attachment to the SG anyway.

Game time cards.
Cheaper than subscribing, no hassles with NCSoft security. -
Quote:The devs are on record that making the EATs hard to unlock (level 50) was a huge mistake. Somehow I don't see them making new ATs, with all the work that implies, and then making them even harder to unlock.when I said I wasn't convinced i meant that they were the epitome of their origin. That's all. I know what kheldians are and their story. I was just trying to say that maybe the unlockables should be the epitome of their origin. Here's a new idea too. You need lvl 50 with that origin to get that unlockable? Something? I dunno.
-
Epic does not necessarily mean "OMGWTFBBQ".
When the devs used Epic in regards to these archtypes, they were referring to the fact that these ATs had large, overarching storylines.
They were never intended to be more powerful than the original base archtypes. -
I see - the fact that the devs changed their minds about something logically implies that they will change their minds about everything. Brilliant.
And besides, 700,000 prestige is not that much, which is why single person bases exist. You get ~300,000 prestige just from going to 1-50. This might also be an indication as to why this is the lowest of low priorities.
So, in essence, you're asking for a solution to a non-problem that isn't part of the design spec.
And I'm the one that's arrogant? -
Quote:Wow.People can, and do build bases on their own now and the devs have made no effort to curtail it. Letting players upgrade past the Combo unit slightly faster than they do currently is pretty unconvincing as a game-breaking exploit that the devs are trying to suppress.
Just because something isn't intended by design (single-user bases) doesn't mean that the devs must instantly jump to eliminate it. Nor did anyone say it was a "game-breaking exploit", but congrats on winning the hyperbole of the day award.
Bases are intended for groups, not single players. Therefore, appealing for changes based on the single-player base experience is a waste of time and energy. -
Khelds have cooties. It's not hard to understand.
-
Quote:And the devs have been just as assiduously ignoring said complaints.
And yes, that stinks. FWIW, some of us have been complaining about that for years.
Bases were never intended to be a single person enterprise. The fact that you can build a nice base solo is an edge case, not the designed usage. -
Quote:Also, patches usually happen pretty early in the morning here in Calif. You really going to make Avatea wake up to post them?In other games (MMOs) I've seen patch notes placed on the websites during the server downtime.
Yet in this game it is not the case, in fact, I've seen patch notes posted almost a day later in the past.
Does anyone know why this is?
Because it would be nice to see them during the server downtime so that we have something interesting to do when we should be working -

Considering that the content in Praetoria is playable, if difficult, with TOs and DOs, I don't think the game is being balanced against IOs.
-
Quote:Unless there's more than one, Praetoria's market is behind a door, so that means that they can isolate it in several ways. That might be the key as to why this isn't in place in PC/RI.The funny thing is, that 1) they implemented this in Preatoria's zone, and 2) there is an option now for players can have their power's auras off while out of combat... problem is few a are taking advantage of that option. I do agree that there should be at least one market area where powers are supressed in Paragon and the Rogue Isles.
