Bad design? Yes. Bug? No. There's no evidence that the original implementation wasn't exactly what it was supposed to be, Paragon just failed to think things through.

On the contrary, I believe they do listen. They just don't have the time to spend on what are fringe issues for abandoned features.

Quote:Actually, we can. As demonstrated.Lookie there. Player Questions is not (currently) set up to accept non-VIP posts.
The fact you had to test it to verify helps prove my point.
That is "You can't be snippy at people for not being SUPER HARDCORE, 1337, Dev followers, having every Dev post streamed directly to their iOS or Android device, LIVE, AS IT HAPPENS. UP. TO. THE. MINUTE. when you can't even be certain what information the person has access to. Let alone if they have the knowledge, or time, to track it all down." (The retraction post by Positron was only about 6 hours old at the time of the OP)
And clicking if you regard clicking a link as some kind of superhuman, ultra-connected, dev following madness, then, well, that's just sad.
My point is - if you're going to comment on beta stuff outside the beta forums, then you should either note that what you're talking about is beta and subject to change (especially since Z noted on Friday that they were reviewing it), or else keep up to date on what the devs are saying. Preferably both. -
Quote:Ok, so you're willing to travel to San Diego just to get a costume code, but $5 for a costume code is too much.As a person who traveled to San Diego Comic Con a few years ago ONLY to get s costume code, I can confidently say "Yes". People, or at least a friend and I, go to conventions for that reason alone. Not saying it's normal practice or widespread but it does happen.
As far as the costume codes go, they are way too expensive points-wise for me to consider getting them at this point. Being a completist, I of course want them all but refuse to pay the kind of money it would take to get them all. I'll wait for them to go on sale or for their prices to be adjusted. I imagine they're not selling all that well based on the comments here.
Lastly, I use the costume code changes for my Shapeshifter toon. It's perfect for that but conceptually I'm not sure what else they can be used for other than "dressing up" for Halloween. Hence, why they're over-priced.
Does not compute. -
Quote:Two things:Except that Dev post is in the VIP Beta section. The section you can't see if you aren't VIP. And we can't assume that the poster is VIP, when their name isn't gold/yellow.
1. The post about the original change was also in the VIP Beta section.
2. If they're not VIP, why would they care about Incarnate changes? -
Those changes have been scrapped.
If you're going to freak out about upcoming changes, I recommend keeping an eye on the Dev Tracker. -
Quote:Not to keep beating the horse, but exactly how do you know how well they are doing in terms of financial profit? Can you find anything concrete on this? I know there's lots of speculation about this, but that's all it is.I don't play LoL and have no intention of ever playing it and therefore do not keep up with any specific updates they do. Even I know how well it is doing right now in player numbers and financial profit.
And on that note, we should probably move on, considering we're either skirting or violating forum rules. *sigh* -
I agree with your core point, but I don't think anyone actually knows how well LoL is doing unless they are a Riot insider.

Quote:That last is probably the biggest sticking point. That other hybrid game (<obligatory rant about silly forum rules>) allows you to gain store currency in game, so everything in the store is technically obtainable in game.Umm why shouldn't cash provide an advantage? Right now the advantage goes to people who have spare time on their hands to farm or work on earning inf and rewards in otherways. How is that any less fair than buying rewards for cash? Particularly if you have the option of using both methods to gain things?
Paragon has not followed the same design. You can't get Enhancement Boosters in game, for example.
As for the first part, again, it's a philosophical issue. If you don't understand why cash shouldn't provide an advantage in games, then you don't understand. If you don't understand why people who play CoH to make their character as powerful as they can don't like having to buy things from the store to do so, then you don't understand. That doesn't make you right and them wrong. -
No one will buy bug fixes in the Paragon Store.

Here's a data point - after running 8 SSA's:
5/5 Heroes that started as heroes and had run one and only one hero morality mission (hero -> hero) were able to get a hero merit.
3/3 Heroes that started as villains and had run one and only one hero morality mission (rogue -> hero) were unable to get a hero merit. -
Quote:You totally miss the point. CoH, last time I checked, is a game, and games are generally supposed to provide a level playing field where cash doesn't provide an advantage (F1 and the Yankees notwithstanding.)This is already the case. And performance is optional. You could've made the case that "winning" isn't optional if you could actually define "winning" as anything that made sense. But "pay for performance" is how the game already works, and how everything in real life works.
You can get to work in your Honda Civic just fine. If you want to pay for a Corvette you can. If that's not worth it to you then just enjoy your Civic. Nobody requires you to have a Corvette.
Just because money provides an advantage in real life doesn't mean that it should in games. -
Quote:Well, it's always possible that the bug is that you were able to get an AM without rerunning the morality mission.Finnally tested on a third character, my blaster, and it worked, I got a hero merit, needed to wait for the timer to clear.
So it goes to show, never chalk up to maliciousness what can be attributed to incompetence.
So its a bug, but they need to get this on known issues and get it fixed and not just sweep it under the rug and ignore it. -
Well, you might also notice that Keyes' difficulty is getting nerfed into the ground.
But I do agree that taking Empyreans out for *unlocking* those slots is extreme. I think they should key it on, say, having crafted 3 different t3 abilities. -
Quote:For certain values of 'freedom' and 'future', certainly. Not necessarily reasonable ones though. But the devs have said that Freedom is the future - have they lied to us?
But back to the original topic, the use of the term 'win' is unnecessarily confusing. The point that chaps peoples' hides is the idea that the store can be used to obtain advantages not available in game. (And yes, with enhancement boosters, that shark has alreay been jumped.)
There are a number of people who get the most fun out of the game by trying to make their characters as powerful as possible. These people tend to get upset when this requires store-bought upgrades, and understandably so - that sort of thing is common in true F2P games, but relatively rare in hybrid models. -
That would require that they actually understand what they're releasing.

From the other thread:
Quote:Does anyone at Paragon know what any of their systems do anymore?Support told me you have to run 10 tip missions + morality mission to become a hero/villain and then an additional 10 tip missions + morality mission to "reinforce" the alignment before you will be able to get an A-merit now from the SSA.
Maybe they should spend less time playing Rock Band and more time learning how their product works. -
Quote:It's impossible to predict what people will do with precision. You'd think that $5 wouldn't be enough of an impediment to stop RMT spammers, but there it is, it works.how can it not be true? anyone willing to play thr long game to aquire 25-35 AM 6 months from now, of solid play of almost nothing but farming a single mission weth dozens of alts, would think nothing of the extra week or so needed to PL to 20 insead of 10 and confirm their alignment.
Quote:The only fix to stop a flood of AM's as you suggest is to put the cooldown to 1 month rather than 1 week, or just remove them all together.
Quote:You are seriously suggesting that taking half a year to get pvp IOs is a "better" way to earn your stuff than just running tips and converting merits on a 20+?
I'm suggesting that the devs don't care about any given recipe, they are watching the rate at which currency (in this case, AMs) enter the game, and they've decided that the rate with SSAs is too high. -
Quote:You don't know that to be true. The point is that the devs are trying to raise the barrier to farming AM's until the acquisition rate falls to on they're comfortable with, and making people level to 20 and run the morality mission is a much higher barrier than just level 10.But stopping non confirmed heroes and villians from earning AM's will not stop that.
It will definitely slow it down, which is what the devs are trying to do.
If this turns out not to do enough, I expect them to add more throttling. -
-
Quote:Since the devs are the ones with the data, I believe that probably means 'yes'.I think you're probably right as to the intent, but really?! Were there that many teen alt farmers out there? When you're limited to a weekly cap anyhow? Really?
Or more probably something like this. Tip farming took appreciable amounts of time, so not everyone did it. SSA farming is so mind-numbingly easy that practically everyone is doing it.
So somewhere, MARTy's older brother said "hmm, last month we were handing out 12,000 AM's a day, and now we're handing out 60,000." DANGER, WILL ROBINSON!
And then the devs huddled together and tried to figure out how to throttle the rate without causing a mass shortage of torches and pitchforks. This is their first attempt. I fully expect that if it's not successful, there'll be others. -
Quote:You responded to the wrong post, but anyway...the arguement is not how many AM's can be earned total in a week, it was the stated goal of 1 L10 PVP recipie, the recipe can be achieved much earlier through tip farming than SSA farming
Tip farming you can get said recipie in 8-10 weeks as opposed to 25-35, and still have time left to actually enjoy playing the game.
And besides, there is nothing stopping someone from doing exactly the same now. just takes a little more prep work. PL to 20 and through affirming alignmemt with several toon then farm SSA's at your rate. if that was the problem that caused the nerf that all it will accomplish is delay the problem not fix it.
No, the argument was about whether the devs are trying to throttle the acquisition rates of AM's in order to cut down on farming. And in that light, the devs don't care about the 'minimum time to recipe' which you are talking about, what they care about is the overall rate at which things enter the economy.
So you are still wrong, because tip farming introduces AM's into the game more slowly than the SSA.
