Quote:Challenged, not demanded. There's a unsubtle difference there. And I don't need the numbers just a commitment that the real numbers will be released. You demanded that a forum moderator give you specific numbers relating to a game feature that isn't even in beta yet?
I can't imagine why you would expect that to go ignored.
There are many reasons why these numbers would be kept secret. Pretty much all of them are not to the benefit of the consumers. If Paragon expects us to believe that they're not trying to soak us for a quick buck, it would behoove them to back up their talk with numbers.
'Guaranteed rare or vrare' was their first attempt. It pretty much died a laughable death when it was revealed that Windfall counted as a rare drop. -
Two more things you lose by dropping to Premium - some number of character slots and access to HEATs and VEATs. Both can be bought back with points, though.
You can't see the unlocks on the Rewards tree unless you're Premium, which is mildly annoying. -

Saying $1 is cheap is a pretty meaningless statement. A lottery ticket is also $1, and it's a pretty effective tax on stupidity.
Here's an interesting parallel. That other game also has 'super packs'. They coincidentally cost 80 points (and wow, their points cost the same amount as ours). They have exclusive costume pieces and powers in them. In testing, it was reported that it took one person 75 packs to collect all ten costume pieces. It took another 90 packs. One person went through 250 packs without getting the powerset.
$75. $90. $250.
That's not cheap by any reasonable standard.
I challenged Z to give us the exact odds for the packs, or commit to doing so when the odds were set. As I expected, this was ignored.
Is there any reason to believe that Paragon Super Packs aren't going to screw the customers? -
Quote:Meh. It's probably a mistake on their part, but if I were writing a review, I might do the same. The MMORPG public knows what a guild is. They don't know what a super group is.Super Groups not Guilds... Say it with me reviewers, SUPER GROUPS!
/e Facepalm.
Oh and I think Paragon should thank their lucky stars that this got written before the Super Pack fiasco. -

Hmm, has anyone pointed out yet that if you buy the pieces of the Kinetic Combat set individually, it comes out cheaper than the set price? (388 vs 400)

All of my accounts got tokens today. It's not my billing day. It's not my old veteran's rewards days (those were all over the place across the accounts.) I don't know whether this token is for October, November, December, or 1982.
Oh and I got a random token on one account earlier this week.
*sigh*
I suppose one day they might be able to explain this to us, but meanwhile, at least they had the time to slap a big red "Buy More Points" button on the account screen. -
Quote:You won't get the bonus unless your sister's account pays for a subscription with a credit card or game time card - a 'retail code' doesn't count. That's exactly how it worked when they had the $1.99 offer, so why would it change now?It seems account management is down for maintenance, or I'd try this. I was going to set up a Preemie account for my sister anyway, might as well try to get bennies for me along the way. Once maintenance is over, I'll do the refer a friend and we'll see what happens at that point. Then on Friday, I'll do the 99 cent deal and we'll see what happens at THAT point.
I find it rather amusing that you think that Paragon would be selling 1000 points for a dollar. -
Quote:Everyone does this (every hybrid MMO operator that is). They don't want you taking advantage of sales for things you'll lose by downgrading, because they believe it'll make you more likely to cancel your sub once you've bought everything you'll need on sale. Why is this is greyed out in the market for VIP players? I would like to purchase this so that the set is accessible when my account turns Premium again, but I am unable to. It's illogical to disallow VIP players from taking advantage of sales.
And to be fair, if you weren't already planning ahead for a downgrade, why would you even be looking at sales for things you have access to? -
Quote:I'm skeptical that we'll see enhancement storage on sale any time soon. Since dropped enhancements are almost worthless, adding a tray is really just a way of getting more enhancements out of a build during a respec. Since they already sell enhancement unslotters, I'm not sure what incentive they have to make this easier.I did the same (aside: it was nice having a job... sigh), though I did buy one enhancement tray. I don't regret it, as I really needed the extra space to facilitate a respec on one of my characters without having to purchase additional respecs... but I'm absolutely waiting for the rest to go on sale before I purchase any other storage increases.
And by "on sale," I of course mean discounted by 50% or more.
I was really hoping that storage increases would be among the items discounted, but I'm pretty okay with the Black Friday/Cyber Monday showing that they've got. -
Quote:The individual IOs are likely to be available - when they sold the rare melee sets for a week, they advertised the set price, but you could buy the individual IOs if you wanted.This. Most of us seem to be much more willing to overpay for the single proc with points than pay for the whole set where the other 5 pieces are usually reasonably priced on WW.
*(Unless selling them as an indivisible set is another of Z's famous experiments.) -
Quote:All four of the Black Friday sets are new to the Paragon Market. Are Kinetic Combat or Luck of the Gambler even in the market normally?
All I see in those level bands are Smashing Haymaker and Red Fortune. If they aren't, then it's kind of silly to say they have a "Regular Price". If they are, then this just reinforces my opinion that the market is a disorganized mess.
Even though they list 'normal' price, heh.
I don't think anyone should assume that they'll stay in the store post-sale, either, I think this still falls under Z's "trying a bunch of things out." -
Zwill has strongly hinted that there will be significant sales in the Paragon market for Black Friday, so I don't think that this is all there is.

Quote:Instead, why not an item that changes the IO to its attuned version? This would be attractive to both premium and VIP players. I know a lot of VIPs would be interested in these to get the auto-scaling and set bonus range benefits.1. Invention binder
Converts one invention into a bound-to-character enhancement that cannot be traded or sold, but will work without an invention license. Allows premium players to slot and use inventions on a per-invention basis, and also allows premium players to unlock the usage of inventions slotted into legacy characters made while originally VIP subscribers.
Suggested price: 150PP for 10 uses.
I think the price is probably too low, though, I'd be thinking more along the lines of 35PP for one, 100PP for 3, 300PP for a 10-pack. -
Quote:Hmm, so we're being asked to maintain subscriptions in order to obtain things to be shown later. We will be releasing more images of those Loyalty Rewards at some point during the upcoming weeks, just not right now
I realize you're not in charge of the message, but this is a pig in a poke. -

The more effort gone into dressing up this lottery-style feature, the more dispiriting it is in its implications for how Paragon Studios views its playerbase.
The repeated comparisons to Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon should be a warning sign.
First, ATIO's are not guaranteed. Second, the rare/very rare guarantee is useless when Windfall and Reward Merits x 75 are considered rare.
I think Paragon is under the delusion that they are going to bring loads of new people to this creaky seven year old game with these marketing tricks. Actually, it seems more like they're just going to drive away their existing and returning players with these money grabs.
We'll see when the Q4 numbers come out. -
Quote:A good deal? Not going to go through the whole thing, but to have a 50-50 chance of getting one specific ATIO, with a guaranteed 1 per pack, you'd need to buy 50 packs.Right, I meant specifically meant the costume options, but should have clarified. No reason to open a pack and receive the Pants of Power costume option when you got one out of the last pack you opened.
After all, one could presumably want multiple AT IOs from the same set. I've got a few Scrappers kicking around who would enjoy a nice boost to critical hit ratio.
If each pack guaranteed 1 AT IO, 1 exclusive costume piece, and 3 random items (that could be either consumeables, costume pieces you don't already own or random IOs) and sold for a dollar? I'd see that being a pretty good deal.
$50 for a 50-50 chance is not a good deal in my book. -
Fun with math:
Assuming 72 ATIO's (10 ATs, VEAT + HEAT, times 6), even if an ATIO were guaranteed in each pack, you would need to buy 50 packs to have a 50-50 chance of getting one specific ATIO.
They've said that they're going to be 'cheap' (although judging from the existing store, it's questionable what that means), but I don't think it's possible for them to be cheap enough to make up for those odds.
Even if they sold them at 50 PP (which is about as low as I can see those pancakes going), that's still 2500 points for a 50-50 chance. -
Just going to point out that typically the company pays for feedback in focus groups, not the other way around :P

According to Von Krieger's UStream transcription, it's also the only way to get ATIOs.
