Quote:Spiffy! Thanks for hunting that down. This is the relevant quote:
Other conversations made it clear the 400/month happens even with advanced subs, the monthly Points don't ever get frontloaded.
Tokens, on the other hand, do. And probably likely those of us on a longer term plan will see all those Tokens up front when FREEDOM comes.
I really do want those wings... 'No clue who's going to wear them yet, but that's beside the point.
(Actually, I do have some idea... **eyes the "player character" version of Cardinal** Those things would look awfully snazzy with his red Electric effects.) -
A little, yeah.... The underground looks like a gorgeous map. 'Hope we have time to get a good look at everything while we're running the trial, instead of having to rush past it all. It looks like a lot of detail went into it, and it would be a shame to have to ignore all that because we're on a short timer or something.

Shade in Shadow's name is the favorite among my crew... Both because it suits her look and personality so well (Shade is that dark-phase, black-hooded stalker-girl in my avatar picture.), and because I simply like the sound of it. It's also a good counterpoint to her bright-phase, white-costumed most-blindingly-shiny-thing-in-the-entire-history-of-blindingly-shiny-things Peacebringer mate's name. I called him Mist in Moonlight.

Quote:Actually, it's the other way around. Points are doled out per month, even if you purchased in advanced.
But Zwillinger specifically said that if you, for example, paid for 3 months, then 3 Tokens would be granted all at once.
What is unknown is for those who've already purchased in advanced if those associated Tokens will come all out once or be doled out once per month.
But you can add an extra year's purchase to your recurring subscription *now* (well, after FREEDOM goes live) and get 12 Tokens immediately. That will just push off your auto-renewal to a year later.
Interesting...
I swear there's a post in one of the early Freedom threads stating that multi-month subscriptions were likely to get the stipend points all at once (I want to say it was either a Z- or Posi-post, but I'm not sure about that and could well be misremembering who said it-), though a lot of other, general thread discussion has made it sound month-to-month since then.
I haven't seen anything that suggested the tokens would be given out all at once. The last time it was even mentioned as a possibility, people shot the idea down pretty quickly with reminders that the current Vet system doesn't work that way. (After all, I'd have my 60 month now if it did, rather than just the 48...) -
Quote:I'm already on an annual renewal, ZM. I'm paid up 'til next June. XDIf you wait for FREEDOM to come out. And then take advantage of the discount of a one year subscription, then 12 Reward Tokens will be dumped on you up front taking you to Tier 9 VIP status immediately.
Enjoy your energy wings.
It'll be nice if they hand me a year's worth of tokens all at once, but from what's been said it doesn't seem that's the case. It sounds like people with multi-month subscriptions will still get them one at a time, on what would be our monthly "billing date" if we were still month-to-month...
The Paragon Points, on the other hand, may all show up at once. There have been statements made at various times that make it sound like it could go either way with them. I haven't seen anything that suggests we'll get all the vet-replacements in one lump sum for pre-paid time, though.
It would be nice, yeah... I want those wings... But I really don't think it's going to work that way.
-
I love the look of those wings... But given their position on the grid and the fact that I've only been around for four years, it'll still be another year or two before I can use them.

Kestrel facing down Hequat solo is probably the closest to "epic" I've run into... That was one hell of a knock-down, drag-out, throw-everything-you've-got-at-it cat-fight and after it was over I sort-of sat there for a minute or two thinking "Holy crap. I don't believe we actually pulled that off."
Since Kes hit 47 as the goddess went down, I also ended up working that arc into the "origin story" of her Adept partner, Cardinal... Having him around turned out to be a pretty big deal, character-wise. So, it was an important win all around. Certainly one of the toughest, most entertaining things I've done as a solo.
The Nemesis automaton version of Positron was another good one, but not as dramatic or important from a character-building perspective as knocking Miss All-Your-Mu-Are-Belong-To-Me flat on her immortal butt. XD -
Quote:Me: Hey Shade! Sky says he's been captured by the Council again... He wants to know if you could, like, drop what you're doing and go rescue him or something.Hehe I can't wait to try out the facepalm emote. Someone post a pic of it!
Shade: *grumbles something about 'third time this week' and 'feeding the dork to Hamidon'*
I love this thing. XD -
Quote:Know that feeling. I've never had any luck getting costume codes or any of that... But that bird-girl in my avatar pic? She needs a facepalm emote. Badly.Meh, I have such a stellar record for not winning contests that I think I'll just buy it when it goes live. Even the RL RNG hates me, probably more than any in-game one.
It's the only response she'll ever need when another one of those "Rescue Skydragon. Again. Because he's a dork." tip missions comes up. -
Quote:Word.I gotta admit, what with the new "WHO WILL DIE?" artwork showing up... I really hope that whoever it is, their story is a good one. Off-camera deaths SUCK. Off-camera MEANINGLESS deaths suck even worse.

I am curious who's going to get the ax... but no matter who the powers-that-be pick, I hope they at least do it well. -
I wonder what the "contest" will be... And how many codes they'll hand out.
-
They have a "promotions" tab?
I've looked at the City Facebook page a few times and never seen that. -
Mine don't all care about the over-all City plot, but given that I do see them as existing in the same basic setting as that story and its characters, I often use City NPCs and lore as a part of their backgrounds or basic concepts... I wouldn't presume to make someone of mine Statesman's long-lost sister or anything like that, but I don't see anything wrong with working bits and pieces of the world into my crew. It gives them more context, I think, and a more solid foundation *as* CoX protagonists.
I do things like making Mei a Nemesis operative, for instance... Palrah works for Vanguard. Shade was a Praetorian PD officer before she was drafted into the Powers Division. Mister Bibbles is the feline familiar of a Cabal witch. Mister Mistoffolees served a similar role for a Legacy Chain sorcerer. Kestrel still works for Scirocco. That sort of thing.... I don't let City's story limit what I do, particularly, and I'm perfectly willing to play a little fast and loose with established canon to make something work (For example, creating an entire species of Shard-native Rularuu bird-things-), but I like having connections between my characters and the established world.
As for City missions that go "against character"... There have definitely been a few of those. (See my post in the "emotional impact" thread re: Kes and Scir's patron arc for just one example-) I usually still run them with the characters. Sometimes I consider them IC and just deal with the railroading as "unavoidable circumstances"... Other times I just write it off as OOC and don't worry about it. As much as I like my characters as characters, I also like playing the game as a game.
That said... I have avoided contacts (Phipps you jerk, I'm looking at you. >_>) and auto-completed missions a few times when they seemed particularly "off" for someone. It's just not my typical response. -
Quote:Yeah... 'Know that feeling, too. Most of my hero-side characters are involved with Vanguard. If you've run the War Zone arcs, you know how that goes. (I'll admit I was fond of Sefu, though.Let's just say that I play Blueside 80% of the time and that's about the kindest thing I've got to say about Ms. Liberty's new "krew".
I make an exception for him.)

Quote:Whatever. You mean Ms. Liberty? I don't think that Alexis has really done anything to get annoyed about unless you think that defending Presidents or handing out Christmas presents is annoying. If you're of a villainous bent then I suppose that those things COULD be annoying...
The blond bimbo standing around Atlas Park.
I never have been able to keep up with which one was Ms. and which one was Miss. Although you've got a point for red-siders either way... -
I still hope they drop the ax on Miss Liberty. I never have liked her.

Quote:I always say that as a writer, I'm a pretty good editor. Not that "budding" necessarily means "promising". Or "good".
My attempts at character fiction are dire and I know it, but they're still a heck of a lot of fun to write and to my mind that's enough to justify doing it.
Even when these freakin' bird-brained weirdos of mine don't cooperate.

My sonic/sonic Defender on Liberty is a Greek siren...
For reasons I don't remember now, I ended up naming her after an ancient Egyptian king. o_0
Her name is Kephren. -
Quote:My rogue Stalker, Grey Kestrel, has similar sentiments. Her species were created to be guardians and protectors, so some of that attitude is hard-wired instinct, but most of it is personal choice.I had a hard time playing Spider Blue, my Arachnos Soldier, until I met Hardcase.
(To be honest the VEAT storyline does not captivate me at all.)
I have always seen Recluse's philosophy as being "The strong thrive. The weak perish. That is as it should be."
Hardcase is a Redside contact who basically says, "Yeah, we may be tough, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't look after our own."
That led to Spider's philosophy: "The strong thrive-- and protect what is theirs."
In his mind, Spider Blue is a hero of the people of the Rogue Isles. He will fight to protect them and keep them from harm. In effect, he's saying, "I'm so strong I don't have to let the weak perish."
He acquires power. He beats up the Longbow invaders of his homeland-- and gladly does the same thing to the Freedom Phalanx and Vindicators when they show up on his turf.
But he also protects the people.
I like to say that he's Prince Namor with a sense of humor.
So, Spider Blue is definitely patriotic ... not to the government of the Rogue Isles, but to the people. It's his home. He defends it.
As an IC nod to her partner's day job (Cardinal is a Vault archivist-), she lives in Saint Martial. It's become every bit as much "her territory" as Paragon City is for the hero-side Elysion, and she defends it and it's human population every bit as ferociously as they defend Atlas, Talos or Peregrine Island. As you say, she's strong enough she doesn't need to let the weak become anyone else's prey.
'Thing is, that also extends to Arachnos' activities. If they're helping keep other threats at bay, that's fine and good... but she'll carve them up just as quickly as anyone else if they push it, so I can't exactly call her "patriotic" in the sense of supporting the de facto govenment of the Isles. She doesn't. She's more interested in looking out for her own.
Of course, who exactly constitutes "her own" is a whole different can of worms, and extends pretty far beyond the borders of Saint Martial. She'd get just as stabby over someone messing with Scir in Grandville as she would over the Praetorians dropping a Goliath on the Giza. Personal associations trump geographic location in some people's cases.
As for the rest? There's not an American in the bunch (Most of my crew are Shard-born, so not even from Primal Earth... much less Paragon City-), and if asked they would probably go with Vanguard's "we're citizens of the world" approach. Like Kestrel, though, they're all instinctively protective and highly territorial creatures. They guard the area and the human population around their homes very carefully. They don't care very much about nations or governments, but they're intensely interested in what's going on in their own territory. So, maybe patriots by Sam's definition, but not in the more traditional sense. -
Just a few favorites...
Palrah and Rush are not impressed by Bobcat's minions....
Pally likes picking on Sky Raiders, though.
And rikti pylons...
A few of the Young Paragons take on Babbage
Ty's first Nightmare... Her friend Soul Keeper doesn't look at all worried.
Pally and Ignem take that "good cop/bad cop" thing a little too seriously sometimes. -

Quote:Not so much, I suspect... At least, no odder than starting one in Praetoria as a Responsibility-track Loyalist or a Warden is now, anyway.First, I'll just say that I agree that it will be very weird to create a "heroic" Corruptor or Stalker from level 1.
If you start out with the idea that the character is going to be on one side or the other concept-wise, where you begin playing them isn't the defining thing. It's the journey and the destination that matter, not the starting point. (Of course, I'm biased about the whole side-switching thing... I have several hero-side Stalkers now that all started out in Praetoria, and a fourth who was described and role-played as a rogue long before Going Rogue existed. My one and only Corruptor is slated to go full hero some time after he hits 40.)
