Oh my gawd, that is an awesome poster! See, that is how you use black outlines on graphics. I'm looking at you Mr. CO. Take that!
But yah. Seems like a fun event!

Quote:Nooo! Didn't you hear? Issue 16 is obviously the death of CoH! Haven't you seen the threads about it?!i16 is great. Time to use the AE for it's intended purpose.
As much as I always disagreed with The_Alt_oholic's puritan views regarding AE (and still do), I love AE as it is in Issue 16. And I do not think it is going to be 'dead' any time soon. Honestly, the words 'dead' and 'alive' have been used so much around these forums lately over topics that have nothing to do with 'death' or 'life', that the words are losing their meanings.
On a side note, I'd like to thank whoever that gave me a negative rep for my previous post with the comment "***". It made me laugh! -
Quote:Some of the stuff you are saying, I agree with. But personally I think your views are a little too drastic; especially when you use the word 'mock' (and its derivatives) a lot.I truly believe one of the most inane beliefs gamers carry with them, is video games require "skill". It is true by the strictest terms I guess, but really the whole concept is a stretch. Amusement isn't a skill. Riding a roller coaster isn't a skill...

...Your Pac Man high score doesn't impress me. It impresses noone. It usually means you wasted your lunch hour, nothing more.
I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Also, to Hydrophidian,
Quote:For MA to be "alive"--a success--it needs to be embraced by more than just story purists and roleplayers.
Finally, to the devs, I'd offer this:
Confucius say, "do not use a hatchet to remove a fly from a friend's forehead."

Quote:Before I attack this statement, I want to make it clear that I am in no way a power gamer or a supporter of power gaming. I'm very neutral to the whole topic. My beef with *some* power gamers is their alleged love and claim of "skill", when in fact, they go out of their way to experience the safest and least-challenging content of all. In COH in particular, power-leveling is not only devoid of skill, it is devoid of risk or challenge. Making really, the whole thing just an exercise of "push button to make noise and character go whirrr", the kind of game an infant plays.
However, I am a huge fan of efficient tactics; be it in life, mathematics, programming, studying, or gaming.
The "skill" of power gaming does not lie in the actual gaming. It lies in how you reach that "easy" state. It is how you find the big fat "easy" button that is challenging, and not obvious to everyone.
I am not a fan of constant farming. But I occasionally enjoyed playing around with AE to see how efficient of a farm I can produce on test files. I actually enjoyed the whole thing. I call it challenge...you may not. That's just your view point.
Just because someone has spent many hours of experience and knowledge in a field (regardless of how trivial the field is, as in a video game) to maximize its reward for its effort, it doesn't mean they're toddlers with no skills. They just use their skills in a different way.
You used your skills and applied them to be the best Level One Survivor! And that's fine. But don't mock those who've applied the same level of skills (if not more or less) for some other aspect of the game. -
AE isn't dead. The art of typography is.
And you killed it. You killed it with your bare hands and stomped on its corpse, then ate it piece by piece. -
According to what Back Alley Brawler said in another forum, if I remember correctly, there are game play reasons for why not all power effects can be turned off. They are visual cues, especially in PvP, to help others know what power you are using so they can react to it accordingly.

Quote:My point proven. You can't enforce a strict law on such a thing. Besides...random fist fights are a natural part of any night club. Pocket D is a night club. And...well...the definition of "fist fight" for a Super Powered being is rather vague. If it were 'no powers' instead of 'no fighting', someone like a Natural MA stalker could just waltz in and whack people.
Now I better shush before someone reps me down for "Off Topic Maundering". -
Quote:And if it was any more strict, it'd suck the fun out. This is game, after all.The cooperative zone dialogue displayed when a character enters the D states, "DJ Zero has gone to great lengths to ensure the Pocket D is neutral ground. There is no fighting here."
I see no misquoting here, just a canon statement that's so vague and lacking in explanation that players are forced to interpret the rule according to their own lights. -
Quote:The problem is discussed ad nauseam. The issue is, you can't really sit down and make a list of everything that is considered 'fighting', and what it not considered 'fighting'.Oh, I hate when they do the Power posing also, I jsut find it funny how many people say there is not fighting in the D, when a standard fist fight would be possible, Although the offending people would more than likely get kicked out and banned. That would be a neat feature for the D.
Emotive Fight... Get booted and can't go back in for 24 hours.
If there was a rule that didn't allow punching people in Pocket D, then what happens to a guy who wants to joke with his best pal and punch him in the shoulder?
If there was a rule that didn't allow any sort of violence in Pocket D, then what would happen to Super-Hero/Super-Villain taunts? That's violence, in my opinion.
Bottom line is, you can't turn Pocket D into a hippie zone. And you can't define a strict rule on what is, or isn't allowed in Pocket D. On top of all this, you can't control people.
But now I'm just going off topic. Sorry. -
I'm a 20 year old female player.
Even though I don't have a lot of characters in total, I can say about 70% of my characters are female. However, I don't tend to care much about this.
Personally, I think actual player gender isn't really an important factor in the character gender people tend to roll. Sure, 70% of my characters are female, but I don't recall this being because I'm also female. It just goes with their concept to be females.
I just think gender stereotypes are just that. Stereotypes. I don't take them too seriously. But they make good starting points for hilarious conversations!
Also, MorganaFiolett, I get mistaken for a male all the time for making characters with skimpy outfits. It's hilarious. -
Quote:I'm pretty sure there is lots of interest in your version of RP. I haven't personally seen any villain/super groups dedicated to it, but I think that's the whole idea.Is there any interest in the sort of 'skin deep' RP I enjoy, or am I neither bird nor beast when it comes to munchkins vs RPers? Are there any groups for this sort of thing? I see the typical RPVGs around often enough, but I've got a VG I'm quite proud to lead and it's based on a totally different premise.
I've seen tons of players who don't want to "dedicate" themselves to their characters, and enjoy very casual, light-hearted RP every now and then. If you put all these people in a group, it would take away that "no dedication" feeling that these people enjoy. So, I'm thinking that's why there are no groups with this goal in mind.
Regardless, I've done similar RPs in tons of PuGs. Especially TF PuGs. It's fun! -

Quote:Hey, it's better than the negative rep comment I got on one of these AE threads:Check out the negative rep i got from earlier:
AE: Good Idea or Bad? 08-18-2009 03:27 PM Stop telling people what to do
Funny thing tho.... I don't use the rep system except for LoLs....

Quote:I didn't say I was gonna delete the character. :PYou gave up before you got Shield Charge?!
Seriously, that is one of the most pure fun powers in the game. I'll log into my SD/Elec brute just to shield charge at stuff for a few minutes. It is Fun on a Bun.
I do plan on rolling an Elec/Shield Brute/Scrapper in the future.
It's just Shield is not looking good for me for my current purposes.
On that note, how's Regeneration with Dark Melee? Is it able to stand toe-to-toe with AVs? -
I'm using Windows 7 as well, and I have to say I have never been happier with a Microsoft Product. I have zero issues with CoH.
I say give it a shot... -
Well, my character is currently sitting at 29. To be honest, I'm rather unimpressed.
Besides Against All Odds (this is the only power I love in Shield Defense), it seems Shield Defense is just not the set for my play style. Furthermore, I just remembered that I do not have nearly enough budget on blue side for this project. I forgot that all my CoH currency resides on the red side.
As a result, I'm considering working on a new build with Dark Melee. While thinking about secondaries, though...I thought about Electric Aura.
How would Electric Aura fit with Dark Melee? Especially since we're getting a buffed version for Scrappers with Issue 16, I was thinking it would work well with Dark Melee.
Any thoughts? -
Quote:You forgot...AE is killing the game.
AE is creating premature burn-out, not good for CoX long-term wise.
AE is creating a massive drop in subscriptions from massive burn outs.
AE players are automatically bad players and I don't want them in my teams.
If someone doesn't have a 3-month vet badge and is level 50 I kick them from my team. AE's fault.
Doing radio missions over and over is a more legitimate way to play the game.
I have trouble finding teams but have yet to try starting them myself, nor bother to try global channels. I blame AE nonetheless.
AE is killing the market.
AE farmers are bad bad people. I am better than them because I play the game the "right" way.
I can't think of any more hyperbolic anti-AE DOOM.
DOOOOOOM!!!!!! -
This thread won't be fun till The_Alt_oholic comes in!
