Quote:That's Windows UAC (User Account Control). People have a love/hate relationship with it. Especially in Vista.I just built my first PC, with Windows 7. It's quite the upgrade from a 6 year old rig running XP. After installing COH, I fired it up and everything ran beautifully. When I logged off, I glanced at my desktop shortcut for COH and noticed that there was a small blue and yellow shield in the corner of the icon. When I right-clicked to see what was going on, I saw options for "Run As Administrator" and "Troubleshoot Compatibility".
Although I didn't seem to have any issues, I clicked "troubleshoot compatibility". I was told that the setting were compatible with XP Service Pack 2. Considering that everything appears to be running fine, is this anything I should be bothered by?
Also, why am I being prompted to run COH as the administrator? Is there something that I would need to do as the admin regarding COH?
Sorry if these sound like stupid or paranoid questions, but I'm working on the first computer I've built myself, and I'm clearly new to Windows 7. I looked for some answers on the search, but didn't come up with anything. I just want to make sure I don't screw anything up, and everything is running as best it can. Thanks for any help.
However, they fixed it up a little in Windows 7, and you have the option to make the pop-up less annoying.
Basically, any program that needs to alter system files or change your computer settings, needs 'elevated access'. You can see how this is incredibly effective against viruses and spyware and all that junk.
However, almost every installation file, every program that you run to modify windows settings, etc. would require the same elevated status. Usually running a program doesn't need it. But CoH is special.
The main program of CoH doesn't need admin privileges. However, CoHUpdater.exe does. Why? Because it modifies the files and settings for CoH. Windows 7 sees CoHUpdater and CoH as two different applications. And if one wants to access the interface of the other, it needs elevated status.
I hope this clears things up! -
Quote:See, that's all nice and dandy in a perfect world. Now, as far as "the perfect time to have a shield on is all the time," I'd say "not quite." Part of why you mention liking Forge is prioritization, who needs the extra damage. I'd assume you try to keep it on specific people. Why can't you do that with FF (or sonic?) You don't (I'd assume) mind running Maneuvers on your VEAT - well, FF and Sonic do have an "in it all the time" bubble, that's perfectly fine for those hanging back. It's fewer (to use part of your gist) timers to chase, it lessens what some see as the 'burden' of bubbling.
But it gets rather frustrating when people start telling you to do otherwise; and they WILL tell you to do otherwise.
To me, it's more of a "shield them so they shut up" instead of a "shield them so the team can survive".
If I have a PBAoE toggle on Auto Execution, or I have an AoE toggle buff, I don't need to worry about people constantly turning me to keep it on. But gawd forbid if I decide that the blaster hanging in my AoE bubble and barely getting touched doesn't get shielded to defense cap.
And I know I'm exaggerating. I have a biased opinion. I just don't like buff ATs at all. I have one Fire/Cold corrupter and I always get crap from team because I made her fully offensive, and hence she doesn't have the Ice Shields. But to honest, you'd be surprised how many times people actually DO tell you how to play your character. And I'm not talking about exceptional cases when the team is failing and people tell each other what to do so they can cooperate better. -
Quote:Cause the Tsoo Ink Man doesn't spam the chat box every 2 minutes with "shoot me plz!!11!"I will never understand why its fun to target a Tsoo ink man and press the "5" key but its unfun to target ally blaster Betty Sizzle and press the "7" key. do you just not like the animations for buffing? I give out Speed Boost sometimes just to enjoy the range gut punch to an ally (and I like the spinny FX too).

Quote:I loathe the Ice Shields.Problem: There are people who do not like certain buffs. AoE buffs would cause the forums to explode.
No thanks. Keep them single-target.
I tend to like fighting in style. I spend a lot of my Infamy/Influence income on costumes. It defeats the purpose when I look like a giant ice cube like every other person on the team. -
Quote:I heavily doubt the issue was caused by the Walk power. The patch was not JUST the Walk power. And since they can't undo just a part of a patch, they had to also remove the Walk power till they can fix the other parts. Not having any clue how it works, I think maybe something was getting overloaded trying to assign the Walk power to all of the logged out toons. Hence why places like Atlas Park and Peregrine were so full of fail.
But I'm just guessing. -

Quote:Yup. And that's what I was saying to my friend when I was talking to them about this. The female walk is awesome. But it looks a bit awkward if you're NOT wearing heels. To be fair, when wearing heels, that is how we look when we walk.
It looks weird if you do the female walk in sneakers. Try it. -
Quote:I wonder if he'll ever set foot in this thread again, to be honest.40 Quatloos on the ringer brought in from the prison planet!
(seriously though, I would wager Frosticus will try a comeback along the lines of "well DR was just the example I gave, and Castle didn't say he wouldn't have other major nerfs that weren't DR...." yeesh louise) -

Quote:I don't bet. But considering how little of sources you have for your 'predictions', the offer is tempting...If you are so assured of yourself that I am wrong then give me 5:1 odds and I'll bet you 1 billion inf that DR appears with GR or if they drop an issue 2-2.5 months before it in that one.
Doesn't tickle your fancy, how bout 2 billion?
I'm pretty sure it will be there, sure enough to put up or shut up with you. So what will it be?
Hopefully this won't be like the time you told another poster you would have to fall on your head to write a worse MA arc than them and that your were going to write a hall of fame arc under a pseudonym... that I'm guessing never happened.
Basically, if you are so convinced I'm wrong. Wrong enough to post multiple thousand word essays about it then put your money where your mouth is. I'm willing to.
Actually I'll go 1:1 odds on a billion inf if you really want Arcana, just cause I've never seen you post anything that waivers outside of a stringent 3% risk range. -
Wanna know a fool proof workaround?
Note: Credits for this workaround goes to my friend.
1. Go to Menu -> Quit
2. When the window pops up asking you wish to quit to login screen or exit game, press and hold the Windows Logo key on your keyboard.
3. While holding the Windows Logo key on your keyboard, choose an option (either quit game or quit to Login Screen).
4. Once the countdown starts, let go of the Windows Logo button. This causes the windows Start Menu to pop up, taking focus away from the game without pressing any key.
5. Voila! Now you can alt-tab regularly or do whatever while you wait for the countdown! -
Yah, that happens too. But it's usually the result of rubber banding or sync issues.

Quote:I actually really do agree with that. We need -some- form of vertical movement with walk on. There are just way too many obstacles.Loveing the walking and I like the powers being greyd out, only ONE sugestion relaly... find a way to get jump back in liek a small hop, .. theres alot of objects you can't step up on like some chaires and stuff so you can turn and sit on them, but other than that I'm really happy with Walk

Bottom line:
No matter what you do, someone is unhappy, and has an extreme urge to express their unhappiness in a variety of ways, most of which enable the person to satisfy their need for attention or sympathy. -

Quote:Wait, what exactly needs to be fixed with the bases?! I don't see any 'bugs' with bases. Bases were never more fun to design than they are now. At least that's my observation.First of all, lets be clear; I am not making assumptions regarding the allotment of resources.
I can understand your point, but I've interpreted the other poster's comments a little differently.
Perhaps, because I am accutely aware that Sunstorm is the person who is supposed to be working on bases, but is instead working on powers and "other stuff". It was made very clear at Herocon that Base love of any kind (fixes or new shineys) are definitely on the waaaay back burner, and set on LOW simmer.
This is frustrating. I can understand no new shineys, but no FIXES? Base Builders have sat back very quietly and said very little over the year (since last year's salvage fiasco). So, is it not understandable that when we see a walk animation given so much hoopdaloola, that we might actually be a little put out?
Oh, and was my previous post really that neg-worthy? seriously?
If by "base fixing" you mean bringing their raid functionality, then that's not really a purely base-related task. It also depends heavily on the PvP side of things. Furthermore, it is understandable why that functionality would be pushed back cause not a lot of people used bases for raiding.
If by "base fixes" you're referring to "base love", then yes. I agree with you. Bases do need some love. But again, as it is, bases are incredibly fun to design. The only thing they need is a better UI and a whole bunch of new objects to work with, and some minor points here and there. I really can't see any other major area of improvement for bases. So, again, I understand why it's set on low priority. -
I know animation...or at least I think I know animation. But I'm never heard of auto key frames. What's that?!
