Me and a few of my friends actually tried something like this before. It's LOADS of fun. I managed to get myself to level 14 without a single death until my friends kindda just let go.
There is no need to enforce anything. People who join the SG are joining to provide themselves with one and only one thing: Challenge.
If they start to cheat or try to get around the rules, then they're limiting their own fun and cheating themselves.
And about the Awaken thing; honestly, in my group, we didn't even allow teammate/self resurrection powers!!! It would defeat the purpose of the challenge if you allowed awakens. That is what makes the whole thing fun!!!
Regardless, I'll be happy to give this a try. I'll try to remember to contact you once I'm off from the break (I can't join before, since I don't have access to CoH). -
Okay. Fine. Honestly, after my Fury bar is past 90%, I don't really pay attention to whether or not it is 100% full; because to me that extra 100% isn't THAT important...especially if you're on a team (which is where the difficulty of building Fury becomes something to be concerned about).
Personally, I care about efficiency and not maximum power. -
Am I the only person in this thread who has no trouble maintaining 100% Fury in a full team, without being the lead Brute?! What's all this nonsense about Brutes having a hard time reaching Scrapper damage in teams?
A lot of Brute players I know tend to skip Taunt, seeing it as "The Tanker Power" that adds nothing to their damage output; and then they sit in a corner and complain about not having Fury.
All you need for a high Fury (enough to exceed the average, overall damage output of any melee Archetype in the game, with the possible exception of Widows), are at least 3 minions, and a full attack chain. For me, that is it.
If I'm the lead Brute, yay! If I'm not, all I need is Taunt to steal a few enemies off my teammates and use them as Fury-juice.
Why are people making such a big deal out of maintaining Fury?! -
Quote:Hm. Yes, I think you'd be right. Sorry. That was a minor misuse of the formulas on my part.Bright Shadow: I agree with most of your post, but it is... well, not mistaken, because I believe you actually do know this, but misleading in one respect.
You can't say that a Brute with fury has a damage scale of 2.25 and then move on to discuss damage buffs and caps the way you do. Fury doesn't modify the damage scale, it's just a buff.
So contrary to what you seem to be implying, the MORE external buffs are happening, the more fury a Brute needs to hit as hard as a tanker. At least until the Tank hits his damage cap, which really doesn't take long.
Example time:
A Tanker has an attack that hits for 80. He puts 100% damage worth of IOs in there and now hits for 160.
A brute has an attack that hits for 75. With a full fury bar, he does 225. Then he puts a 100% worth of IOs in there are hits for 300.
Now a Kin comes along and uses Fulcrum Shift to give them both +200% damage.
The Tanker now hits for 320, while the Brute now hits for 450. The Brute does, as you say, do hit substantially harder than the tanker ever could, BUT contrary to what you seem to be implying, the external buffs favored the Tank, both in absolute terms (+160 DMG instead of +150 DMG) and relative terms (pre-buffed Tank does ~1/2 Brute damage, buffed tank does ~3/4)
Of course, this all goes to hell if you add a second kin, at which point the tank goes home and cries. But teams with large but not insane amounts of damage buff actually let the tank put in a surprisingly good showing. -
Quote:I actually want this to happen. You know what this means now? All you people who broke it? We'll get two more weeks of the winter event.
Tonight was the only night I could play CoH and spend time with my CoH-buddies within the next two weeks or so. I'll miss the Winter Event too.
The random server crash just made me so so so sad... -
A Tanker and Brute have their own places. You cannot say which one is "better". They're both good at what they do.
The phrase "tanking" is not limited to being able to survive. It mostly refers to the ability of capturing, and maintaining enemy aggro to distract them from the less armored members of the team. And that, is what a Tanker does best, given their inherent power, and all their taunt capabilities.
The Brute is much better in dealing damage. As far as numbers and calculations are concerned, a Tanker has a higher survivability than a Brute.
Tankers and Brutes can both gain up to 90% Damage Resistance to any damage type.
The Soft Defense Cap is independent of archetype, and is around 45%.
The Hit Point cap for both Tankers and Brutes is 3212.7.
The only thing that makes a Tanker's survivability superior to that of a Brute is that Tanker get "more bang for their buck". Their defensive powers have relatively higher values, and they get access to all their defensive powers by level 32. For instance, the power Deflection from Shield Defense offers 15% Defense to Melee for Tankers, and only 11.3% to Brutes.
However, in practicality, none of this matters. If a Brute reaches Soft Defense Cap, it's not much different from a Tanker with the same powers as far as survivability is concerned. If there is any difference, it would be either very marginal, or under special circumstances.
That's it for survivability.
Now, we move on to damage. These are the theoretical numbers:
Tanker Melee Damage Scale: 0.8
Tanker Range Damage Scale: 0.5
Brute Melee Damage Scale: 0.75
Brute Range Damage Scale: 0.5
As far as base damage is concerned, Brute falls short by 0.05 units on the damage scale.
However...there is this sweet, sweet thing in our universe called FURY.
A Tanker's damage modifier stops at 0.8. However, a Brute's base damage can be boosted up to 200% on top of its original value. That means that at full fury (which is not something hard to achieve), a Brute is at 2.25 on the damage scale (0.75 x 300% (this is because Fury goes on top of base damage)).
Furthermore, a Brute's damage cap is at 850%. A Tanker's damage cap is at 400%.
So, even if we go by Atheism's hilarious methods of comparison, a Tanker can ONLY beat a Brute's damage potential IF AND ONLY IF the Brute has very minimal Fury. Period. If there is any sort of damage buff involved, the Brute out-damages a Tanker. And if the damage buff is greater than 400%, the Tanker is just humiliated.
In the end, it all depends on the player, and the build. And that's the bottom line. All the numbers are mere theory. But all this theory suggests that under the right hands, a Brute has an advantage in terms of Damage, and a Tanker has an advantage in terms of aggro management. Their difference in survivability is incredibly marginal.
So please, Atheism, next time you try to argue an absolute point, use actual data and facts rather than pure opinions. -

You guys do know that if the servers are full, the status goes 'pink' and you get put into a queue, yes? Or was I dreaming about them adding this feature?

I want a hero with a hat like that and a toilet paper chest logo...

Gotta love the swarm of "lolPocketDRP" posts when Pocket D is still the most populated RP spot, and a really nice place for people to start their characters' journey.
In any case, Irnee, there are always people like that around. To be quite frank though, I would've also dropped you a tell in the given circumstances, probably explaining how your character would not always know the name of everyone, or that it's more convenient for people you're RPing with to use proper grammar and spelling. But I would've at least tried to not be rude about it.
Either way, I'm happy your situation was resolved. -
...I really need to start playing Faultline arcs. I've rarely been to that zone.
And Razoras, yah, I agree with you. But I still do think in this case, having multiple instance of this design inefficiency does have an impact on performance; it's minor, but it's not negligible, in my opinion.
Does anyone know how I could get a developer response on this? I'm really curious as to why they've designed the map like this. -
Yah, but for computers who don't have a lot of memory or dedicated graphics card...
I mean, by fixing this, the game could be improved significantly for the low-end computers. Not so much for higher-ends. -

Quote:I know. I don't lag either. But a lot of people complain that CoV is laggier than CoH. I evern experienced it myself when I had my crappy laptop.Wait, wait... what lag?
Oh, right... my machine is rather... um... new, so I wouldn't notice stuff like that. Nevermind. Carry on.
But now that I saw this...I was just speechless. This is REALLY a huge load on the machines if it's practiced regularly. I wonder if we can get a redname response on this... -
Quote:Wait, what?!You can see this quite a bit in Founders' Falls too, where the buildings are more jumbled together - you sometimes see one building with half windows, with the rest hidden inside the building it's been merged with.
This issue is in CoH too?! Wow... -
So today I had an interesting encounter.
I logged in, and realized that I somehow ended up spawning inside a building. No worries, I thought. A simple /stuck would fix that! But then I got curious and decided to zoom the camera in to see what's inside...
And these are pictures of what I found:
Figure 1
Figure 2
Figure 3
Figure 4
I have drawn the red lines to indicate the edges of the geometry. In Figure 1, I have just taken a picture from inside the geometry. In the rest, my character is standing at a single spot, and I have merely rotated the camera to get snap shots from inside and outside the geometry.
As you can see, there is a big chunk of fully-rendered wall INSIDE that building, and it's not even visible from the outside! The computer is rendering two separate faces of two different geometries, and we only see one of them! I can only assume that the entire building is a bunch of textured cubes clipping into one another. It even has doors!!!
Isn't this inefficient design? Could it be that the lag of CoV (relative to CoH) is due to numerous number of these design flaws?
If so...should we fix them?

I've had Windows 7 for several months now, and no issues with CoH.
From personal experience, I can tell you that Windows 7 is a great upgrade from XP or Vista. It's literally what Vista should've been. But as Shecky said, you could always dual boot it.
You could also install a virtual machine and drop Windows 7 on it if you wanna see how the OS works (you can't test CoH issues with VM, but you can get a feel for the OS).
On top of that, Microsoft has a "Windows XP Mode" that can be dropped onto Windows 7! -
Quote:...are you referring to "windows"?I couldn't find a place for suggestions. This looked like the closest thing to it so if this isn't the place, direct me to a better alternative
Being able to move around the different frames is nice but it would be really nice if there was a way of locking them in place. By locking, I mean disabling the ability to accidentally drag them out place.
Thats it
Regardless, here's the Suggestions and Ideas forum. -

Quote:I know. I'm just saying...this argument has turned into an endless loop.Umm, I'm confused. What would you expect people to use on a forum?
It's not like we have the data-mining tools that the devs have to actually come at discussions with absolute facts.
There is a difference between drawing your arguments from logical facts while using examples to further polish them, and using examples to build a basis for your argument and then use logic to polish them. It's not about accuracy data.
But what do I know.
Someone once told me "Brightshadow, stop stating with authority unprovable assertations to justify your position. Just because you know the words 'arguable' and 'fact' doesn't mean you can slap them on things like a label."
I don't really get what that means. But it's probably saying I'm doing something wrong. -
I love how people keep using their own individual experience as counter-examples to disprove points.
Logic that's based purely on examples is just hilarious. -

Quote:No one here is mentioning anything about power gaming or power leveling! It's only you who's doing that! xDWe're working in circles here folks. Every time someone makes a suggestion that this isn't a thread about power gaming it comes back to being a thread about power gaming.
And the first rule of power gaming is: Only the best matters. Every time anything is tweaked that changes and something else *needs help*. It's a chase your tail mentality, and this thread is proof of it.
