Quote:...that has nothing to do with the simple law of economics that lower demand means lower price, in an elastic market.Actually the anemic villain market encourages hoarding which makes for inflated demand.
Nice try though.
There are many factors that affect the market as a system, yes, but saying that the Black Market is "flawed" purely because of lower population on villain side is just plain invalid reasoning in my view.
I still stand by my point. The only flaw with the Black Market is that it is easier to manipulate due to lower population. Lower number of suppliers means higher control over the price given to each individual supplier.
Due to that, there are odd 'price spikes' every now and then in the histogram of the prices of certain items, which both frustrates and annoys casual market users. This is exactly why someone like me stopped manipulating and predicting the market. I thought it was unethical, in my own opinion.
That's it! That's the only issue I can see with Black Market. -
Quote:But smaller player base also means smaller demand!!!!I play the game the same whether I'm playing hero or villain. When I am on blue side I get what I want for cheaper.
On villain side I can't get what I want very often and it costs more.
It is due to smaller playerbase providing smaller supply.
Real simple.
GAWD!
You guys make me cry... -
Quote:It really is amusing to me how you keep stating that you're not serious and all, and yet you think I'm sitting here raging over this. I really couldn't care any less about what you think of Black Market.Wow, way to completely miss an attempt at a chuckle man. You're taking it way too seriously.
The point was to be over the top and accentuate how ridiculous the whole thing is. The market is flawed, because it does not suit my needs in having midrange recipes. You continue to tell me that I AM WRONG, yet are completely unwilling to offer any proof, what kind of response did you expect? I don't care about proving anything, I care about playing the game and having fun without planning out everything I do 53 levels in advance, red market is flawed for that kind of a playstyle. I tested it, I proved it to myself and took up play on blueside where casual IO'ing has been easy and relatively inexpensive. So if you would like to continue to tell me I am wrong, kindly offer some sort of evidence. You seem to want to take everything I write as completely serious though I have repeatedly stated that it is not, and then tell me to calm down.
Relax, smile, have a beer/soda. My saying your market is flawed isn't going to somehow ruin your gaming experience. As for your removed post I apologize for the confusion, I was unaware of that policy specifically. As I said, it was intended only to show a point, but if you want to use it as an excuse to get all huffy, by all means do so.
You're just so full of irony, sweety.
Note the extra emoticons used to express the mood of this message. -
Quote:Wait, what? xDFunny, who would have thought that violating the forum ToS with flaming and personal attacks could get a post removed. You may find my posts abrasive, but they don't violate the rules.
-Snipped to save space-
One other thing to mention... we already know that your word is suspect and cannot be trusted. You made a statement that you have read and agreed to follow the rules of these forums while using them. You have already broken that word in this thread as evidenced by the removed post. I point this out in reference to statements that my trustworthiness in regard to my red market test may be in question. Please don't take it as any sort of attack, because it is not. It is simply intended to demonstrate that while the quality of my word may be unknown, there is solid evidence that yours cannot be trusted due to your inability to honor the contract you digitally signed to get access to these forums.
My post was removed not because I was trolling you, but because it was quoting your post, which you removed. When someone posts something, and another quotes them, and later the original post is deleted, the moderators delete the posts responding to it as well to avoid confusion. xD
All I was doing, was hoping to point a loop hole in your statements, and when you respond me with THAT, I just have to say I'm speechless. "Clearly" I am wrong. Please continue your firm, absolutely correct belief that the red side market is flawed. How dare we ask you what you are asking me (to provide empirical evidence). Have a nice day! -
Quote:You're very late to the party!I haven't read all the posts in this thread so I don't know if someone has already mentioned it, but has any one else seen the movie "Equilibrium" with Christian Bale? In that movie they used some pretty cool gun/martial arts style moves. A DP blaster with some kind of martial arts secondary would be sweet! In the movie they called it Gun Kata. I'm not sure it that name is trademarked, but that would be a cool name for the secondary powerset. Consider me /signed! Duel Pistols/Gun Kata FTW!!

Quote:That's exactly why you were treated as such in this discussion. You've pretty much ignored all my posts as well, but I'll go ahead and take a stab at that particular statement....I have issues with people saying the red market is fine (which is a matter of opinion) and that I'm a crappy player because I don't enjoy dealing with the flaws of it...
You say you have issues with people saying the red market is fine, and according to you, that's a matter of opinion. Then why do you have issues with us, who believe the red market is fine?
You, very precisely stated that the red side market is a "clearly flawed" system. Sadly, you deleted your own post, and apparently the moderators deleted my post, which responded to that statement.
There is a difference between saying "In my opinion, the red side market is flawed, and I don't use it." and saying "Red side market is clearly flawed."
The difference is that the first statement is simply your opinion, and nothing more. If you don't enjoy the red side market, then thumbs up to you! It's your game, enjoy it the way you want.
But in the second case, which is the route you have been taking, you are literally calling everyone stupid for not seeing things from your perspective. You're implicitly insulting people without knowing it, and then you get annoyed that they flame you, and then call them trolls?
Then, to make things worse, you start building a flawed logical argument based on very selective evidence that differs from the experience of many red side players, and you claim this concludes that the red side market is "clearly flawed"?
Nevertheless, as I said, I really don't care about your view of the market. I'm just trying to state why you should be expecting to be flamed and "trolled" when you step on people's toes.
Sadly, you'll probably ignore this post as well. -

Who made Talen_Lee our new mod?
-
I think we need a 'natual' dominator set more than this.
And now that we have Dual Pistols, a "Dual Pistols Assault" set would be lovely. A combination of Martial Arts powers and Dual Pistols.
Yet I love this idea just as much! -
Quote:Either your definition of the word 'plenty' is inaccurate, or you're exaggerating without shame, or I'm just stupid....but plenty of recipes redside have never been supplied.
Since the day markets have come out, I have never stumbled upon a single recipe on the Black Market that was never supplied. And I used to be an ebil marketeer.
Note: I am not counting exceptions. It would be normal for a recipe from a set like Obliteration to be unavailable in the market a week or two after its release. -
Alright, since this has become a discussion of markets now, let me describe what I feel is the "issue" with the red side market.
The "issue" is that there is no issue. For any economical system, there is a source of buyers (Demand) and a source of sellers (Supply). In City of Heroes, and City of Villains, the Demand is provided by people bidding on items they wish to obtain. Similarly, the Supply is provided by people selling items they wish to turn into raw cash.
As stated above, the Supply and Demand, in both markets, are provided by the same people. As a result, both the Supply and the Demand, are directly proportional to one variable: Number of users of the market.
The higher the number of users of either market, the larger the supply, the larger the demand. From basic economics, if the ratio between these two quantities remains constant, and there are no outside influences in the system, the price will also remain constant, in an ideal situation.
That is why there is no issue.
However...
If the supply of a market is limited, then each individual supplier in the market has more control over the prices. As a result, because of the lower supply on the red side market (and hence the lower demand), people who profit on pure price manipulation can do so with more ease, as there is less competition.
Which means that the only reason people believe "red side market is broken" is because "ebil marketeers" can profit more easily, due to lower supply.
In the end, however, because of the lower demand, it doesn't make a huge difference. The only difference it makes is that you, as the semi-casual buyer, need to wait a little for a price manipulation to subside before hoping for successful bids. The end.
Therefore, either market is only 'broken' if you WANT it to be broken, TO YOU, as someone else in the thread already mentioned. -
Quote:I guess you managed to miss the entire point of my posts. :PYep, before you put yours up. Don't sweat it. We want different things and have different experiences.
I'm having some fun heroside for the moment. And when the devs realize it's never going to fix itself and merge the markets I can go back to playing the villain ATs I prefer, or going rogue will drop and it will become moot.
Enjoy playing red, I'll enjoy the blue market in the mean time. I must say, the rabid defense of the red market has been both amusing and mind boggling to myself, others in this thread, and the people who PM'd me about it. So clearly, I'm not the only one who feels this way about the redside market. Further battering our heads together isn't going to solve anything however, as I have zero interest in doing any sort of market research, and the redside defenders are just not interested in hearing that their precious system could possibly not be working as intended.
I'm not taking any sides. I believe taking sides and debating if redside is better or not is just not only silly, but absolutely petty, if I may dare say.
All I was trying to do was to point out a flaw in your logic and argument. You were bringing personal experience as 'absolute' and 'irrefutable' proof; and if you're calling people out for having a pathetic discussion, then maybe you should be discussing things better than them, no? From what I saw, you weren't, and I tried to explain why.
Either way, good luck, and have fun!
-
And I just recently managed to fully frankenslot my Dominator (sitting at level 34 at the moment) with only 6,000,000 to 7,000,000 infamy, and I didn't spend more than ~30 minutes at the market.
I bought many "odd level" pre-built enhancements and recipes between level 26 to 35 (I was 32 at that moment).
Not only that, but I also lack the patience in the market. I'd rather pay high and get something NOW and avoid crafting the item myself. So chances are, I could have saved a couple of million infamy if I had less of an "I WANT IT NAO!" approach.
If we want to use personal experiences as basis for our arguments, then that's mine. And now you see why doing so is just silly.
I think the whole red side vs. blue side debate is some unfruitful, silly discussion. However, please don't blame your inability to utilize a system efficiently on the system, other users, and your 'casual gamer' status...whatever that means. -
I have a Fire/Cold Corruptor who is purely offensive (she does not buff!) and for that, she usually tends to be rather suicidal. This is her panic button:
Hibernate -> Wait for full Health and Endurance -> Queue Super Speed -> Disable Hibernate, Super Speed is automatically executed -> RUN!
Usually, this lets me survive a full team wipe. -
Quote:Are you serious? The villain market just doesn't have the same levels of supply and you just can't get things as easily.
No anecdotal evidence from experienced and smug marketeers can change that fact.
People that have an actual life outside the game will never have all the same knowledge and abilities to take advantage of a scarce market and so they will opt for the blueside one, which has a lot more stuff on it.
All of the idiotic e-peen measuring by marketeers about how deep they roll in the redside market does nothing to change any of this.
But it is funny at least to watch you make fools of yourselves.
So you're literally equating "inability to utilize Black Market" with "casual gamer" and "having an actual life outside the game"?
...wow.
Using the Black Market properly, having the patience to log off and wait for items, and being smart in what you do with your infamy has nothing to do with how much time you dedicate to this video game. -

If you're even trying to equate individual villain archetypes with individual hero archetypes, you're doing it wrong.
They're just different. Period.
Hero archetypes are designed to complement each other. A Defender on its own may spend hours trying to go through a mission. Sure, maybe she won't die thanks to her awesome debuffs or buffs, but her low damage just makes it hard for her to tear through enemies. Now, give her a Blaster, and she'll make the Blaster nearly indestructible, while the Blaster tears down enemies.
On the villain side, it's different. Sure, if you put a Dominator (Oh what's that, there is no Blaster equivalent?!!) and a Corruptor together, they could make an indestructible, wrecking machine. It won't be as strong of an indestructible, wrecking machine as the Hero version. On the other hand, when left alone, both the Dominator and Corruptor are more capable than a lone Blaster, or a lone Defender.
That's how I compare villain archetypes to hero archetypes.
Granted, that's not why I don't play hero side.
Have you ever had the misfortune of doing some of the old-time story arcs on hero side?! THEY ARE A PAIN IN THE BUTT! Not only do they constantly ask to go around the gazillion zones within Paragon City, but they're not freakin' updated!
Last time I got a contact telling me to kill 20 Council in Steel Canyon! NEWS FLASH! 5th Column have taken over, numb nuts! I spent a full hour trying to find 20 live and healthy Council without getting molested by 5th Column bosses!
I raged so bad during that mission that I just decided to quit hero ATs for a good, good while! -
Quote:Unless they're Arachnos Soldiers or Widows...The redside ATs are more self-sufficient. On the other hand, some of us like specializing.
Occasionally I think that the AT design (leaving aside the epic ATs) is marginally brilliant for encouraging villain vs. hero behavior. The villain ATs are more generalized and so more self-sufficient, but also benefit less from grouping and intelligent teamwork than the hero ATs; the hero ATs (as a general rule) are better at their specific strengths and will be much more powerful at a high level of teamwork than villain ATs at the same level of teamwork - the villains just don't get all that much better as their teamwork improves. -
Did the OP just get two more bars of bad rep over this thread? Seriously, guys?

Maybe it's a fix for the numerous crashes lately in the game that I've been noticing...
-
Quote:You can actually change that without having to re-install. It's done through a shortcut parameter on CoHUpdater.exe. I've forgot the exact syntax though.I love redside. I have 3 heroes, and 20+ villains. I enjoy the villain AT's much more, distances between the zones aren't nearly as long, the mayhem missions are better than the safe guard missions imo, and I love the dirty, broken look. G-ville is a pain for non-flyers, but it's great, it's home to me.
CoV was the game I bought, and after a HDD format I re-downloaded it and by default got the CoH screen everytime I log in now. I don't know why but it drives me crazy, and as soon as I have the time to, I'll be reinstalling it just to see recluse and the crew and the red screen and the evil music.
And yes. I do love the Villain archetypes much, MUCH more than Hero archetypes.
Red side is just more diverse and fun, in my opinion. Unlike hero side were it's always "We need a Tank!" and "We need an Empath!". -
I doubt it...
But I may be wrong. I hope I'm wrong...
Please make me wrong, NCSoft... -
It really saddens me that the developers and community teams are scraping the bottom of the barrel of ideas to keep us entertained until GR.
Nevertheless, it's a fun contest.
