You know what these threads remind me of?
The Really Annoying Orange
That's what. Except the annoying orange is actually hilarious. -
Quote:What's funny is that I'm actually not a fan of literature. I rarely ever read books...but really...Here, Here!
100% completely agree with you!
I did the beta testing for GR, and was immediately shocked at how much different this new expansion could take a character.
I'm a big 'stories' guy. Aside from classic literature, as well as older Stephen King novels (The Dark Tower line, to mention). To seen the attention to detail they did, as well as the new mechanics of the storylines (mass ambushes, in-instanced choices, text choice options, disappearing contacts when 'defeated', etc.), I was immediately enthused by their efforts.
As such, I think you comments are dead on!
Thanks Devs!
I'm just blown away by how awesome the GR content is. -
If you know me, chances are, you also know that this is the first time I am posting a thread like this. You'd also know that CoH is the one and only MMO game that I've actually subscribed to, and that I generally try to avoid MMO games...but not CoH. I simply felt responsible to say a big thank you to Paragon Studios for everything they've done to make this game the great game that we love and adore so much, after so long.
So thank you, Paragon Studios! A few weeks ago, I was on the very edge of taking a break from City of Heroes: A game that I've been subscribed to for over 4 years now. I was so bored of the same old content that leveling characters became a routine chore. I could do most of the missions with my eyes closed, and building characters with efficiency was turning into basic math problems.
That is until GR went live.
Even though I was invited to Closed Beta, I purposefully decided to not take part in it. I did not wish to spoil the new content for myself, and I wanted to experience GR the way it was truly meant to be experienced, with all of its glory. I had high expectations. I was expecting GR to refresh CoH for me and breath a new life into this game that I love.
I'm glad I had high expectations.
During the beta testing, I kept hearing people say about how "unfinished" GR is; about how "they" are nerfing everything and how GR is a waste of $30. None of that changed my hopes. I still expected a lot from what was to come. I just, deep down, knew I wouldn't be let down. Very rarely have I ever been truly disappointed by an update to the game, and I was very sure that GR would not change that.
And that is when, with my limited income, I bought GR, and logged into Praetoria for the first time on Monday.
Over the past 3 to 4 days, I have been running solo missions in Praetoria on my Kinetics Melee/Energy Aura Brute. I made a Loyalist character. She was a PPD detective with a power armor. I had fun with her concept. I finished the tutorial, and I began my journey through Praetoria, knowing this character should ultimately become a Vigilante hero.
For the first time in almost 3 years, I no longer cared about XP. I no longer looked at my XP bar every 2 minutes to see how much progress is left till the next power. I didn't look at how far I am from Stamina. I didn't worry about whether or not I have unlocked the Fitness pool or not. I didn't care about my damage output, nor did I care about how efficient I was at fighting or how much debt I had.
Why you ask?
Because I was having FUN. Because I was so immersed in the brilliance of the story arcs in Praetoria, that I just didn't even think about all those things. For the first time in 3 years, I felt like a newb!!! And that was a darn good feeling! Never in the history of CoH, have I been so immersed in a mission. Never have I played a mission that would make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. Never have I felt so epic, so powerful, and so important in the world of a video game; especially a world full of other, equally important players.
Many times, I had to stop and think about my choices. Many times I felt a true emotional connections with my NPC companions. Many times, I was left unsure of whether or not I was really doing the "right thing". So much that eventually, my Responsibility Loyalist character finally abandoned her vision of a perfect future and joined the Resistance right at the very end of this absolutely brilliant story. Even I was surprised, as I was so determined that my character should remain a Loyalist.
So thank you, Paragon Studios. Thank you for this absolutely fantastic new update to GR, and thank you for doing all the things that I personally never thought would be possible with CoH. I cannot wait to see what else you have in store for us, and I truly think CoH can only get better from here on.
In War Witch's repeated words, you guys have truly "set the bar high".
Thank you!

I love how people keep posting as if they're all knowing about some big conspiracy by the developers and that we, the "Loyalists" (*snrk*) are blind to everything that is so obviously wrong with this game.
It really is hilarious. -

I wanted to adjust my difficulty at first too. I was like "Pshah! What? I can't raise the difficulty? This is gonna be a snooze-fest!"
Then I met me Reistsance...
Then the Syndicate bosses...
Then the Destoryers...
And then I was screaming around like a little girl looking for a way to lower difficulty. -

Quote:Welcome to CoH!Hey everyone. I'm new to the game and so far I'm enjoying it. However, I'm little overwhelmed and underwhelmed with the game's powers.
I'm overwhelmed by how many types of powers there are. There are ten classes, and then each class has like 16 primary and secondary powers. It's staggering.
I decided to try a few different characters out, but this is where I'm underwhelmed - for the first three or four hours of gameplay, I only have maybe three powers to play with alongside 'brawl'. It feels kind of sparse. A lot of my time is spent waiting for my powers to recharge. It also means I can't really get a quick feel for a power set without spending more time than I'm comfortable with.
It feels like there's too many power sets, which makes it hard to test them all, and powers are unlocked too slowly, which makes it even harder to test them.
Yes. There are tons of powers to try, and the possibilities are virtually endless. Here's a tip of mine:
If you see you're looking at the experience bar too often and grinding to get that next shiny power...you're not having as much fun as you could be having.
Try different sets, different combinations, and eventually you'll come to a combination that will make you go "Wow! I'm level 12 already? That was a breeze!". That's when you're REALLY having fun! -
What's that? I can't hear you from all the way in Praetoria!

I'm having lots of fun with KM/NRG. But I realize how it's not the most efficient combo. If you worry about numbers and percentages too much, I'd advise against Energy Aura. Otherwise it's incredibly fun theme-wise.

Quote:It makes me sad that people get so worked up over game balance and adjustments. Is it so hard to grasp the simple fact that ADJUSTMENTS (not nerfs) are needed for a balanced game, and that a balanced game is needed to satisfy its ultimate goal: Letting players have fun?A number was made smaller. It's the only excuse some people need.
Without the changes to Brutes, Tankers and Scrapper would become nearly obsolete with side-switching.
Sure, I may be sad that my Brute can't do as much damage now, but now I actually have a reason to try playing a Tanker.
Not only that, but I also found the changes very nice. I could just take a short AFK break on my Brute without worrying about my Fury to drop down to zero by the time I come back. -
Quote:That's what I was thinking too. I'm not sure on it though.Fascinating, most posters seem to assume the OP is a male looking for a date.
I read it and re-read it and assumed the OP was a mature female looking for like minded player's for friendly teaming.
I wonder why the OP has not responded to any of the replies to his/her threads... -
Quote:Zooombiieeeee threaaaaddd....They could solve all these veteran debates and problems if we were just allowed to buy time in advance and receive vet badges for total paid subscription length instead of how much of the subscription has already transpired.
If I had the choice, I would instantly throw enough money at NCSoft to get me up to the 75 month vet badge, then continue paying my monthly fee from that point.
I've never understood why NCSOft aren't interested in me paying them free money or the equivalent of a lifetime subscription. $105 is on the counter right now, for my 7 missing vet badges - why won't you rob me already?
Ahem. Anyways. It's called VETERAN badges. Not How-Much-Have-You-Paid-NCSoft badges. Veteran badges distinguish new players from experienced players (usually) and in general, it is a reward for people who have stayed with this game for so long and experienced all the ups and downs. It also tends to stroke the ego of some people and make them feel like they're VIP or something cause they have 75 months worth of Veteran badges, but that's another topic. -
Quote:It's YouTube we're talking about here...really...what sort of critical thinking skills do you expect? The music had a very Dark Knight feel, which I'm sure was the intent.
I liked the flybys as well, though I think the staccato jerking of the zooms was a stylistic mistake. Half the comments I saw on the video were complaints that "even the company that made it can't get it to run smoothly." Sigh.
I for one loved the "jerking" of the zooms. It sync'd very nice with the music.
Does anyone happen to know the name of the song or its composer? It's killing me! xD -
Am I the only one who loved the music of that video ten times more than the video itself?!
