Ok. My turn.
I created this toon to go along with a theme. I created the Brute simply for the BS/SD not realizing my defense was going to be so bad. I've played a tank SD, and new it was squishier than I would have liked, but was hoping I was going to enjoy it, and now I'm really starting to become disappointed in my Brute for the lack of def/res.
I know I'm not supposed to feel like I'm an invul tank, but still, something feels really wrong.
Any help?

Oh. And believe it or not, Freedom's Help channel was never a convoluted mess. People only used it when they had questions. The Arena Chat channel was a different story.
However. Now that F2P is live... The Help Channel is nothing but trollers and spammers. And it's ugly. Exalted Help is NOT like that. On Exalted, people are having conversations. So what. Nobody is abusing it or just spamming to be a jerk. -
I just don't see the big deal of people just using it. It still gets used as the Help channel. And people still get help from the Help channel. What's the problem?

Quote:You made several points that I liked.I don't see a need for this. Mostly, I agree with ClawsandEffect. I don't hold the opinion nearly as strongly, but I agree. Mostly.
But I'm not going to lie -- if this were implemented, I'd use the hell out of it. I'd spend a vet token on it in a second, much more eagerly than I would for remote auction house or vault access. If I were one token away from having it, I might even buy points just to get the token and have remote trainer access right away.
A few thoughts:
To avoid the "calling in the middle of a fight" problem, maybe it could be tied to a power that everyone has, one that requires you to find a safe place to take some downtime instead of using it in the middle of a pitched battle. One that doesn't let you use any other powers while it's active. One that actually reduces your defenses and immobilizes you. So when you've got that little "time to level up" arrow, instead of opening up your Contacts menu and pressing the "call" button, you hit Rest, and after some appropriately-long period (say, a minute), the level-up interface appears. (The Elder Scrolls games have been using the "you level up when you rest" approach for years.)
Or! OR!
Howzabout this:
A brand-new level 1 character arrives in Atlas Park. He beats up some Hellions and accumulates enough XP to reach level 2. Does he have Ms. Liberty's number? Of course not; he's never spoken to her. So he runs back to Atlas Plaza and she levels him up to 2. Now that he's visited her once, he can contact her remotely, but only if (pick one or all of these, they're just ideas):- He's in the same zone she's in. Not "a mission instance whose door was in the same zone," but actually located within the city. Outside. Where all those other people, even the ones you're not teamed with, are.
- He's of a certain origin or AT. (Okay, maybe not for Ms. Liberty. But at higher levels, trainers could work like origin-specific stores and contacts: "I'd like to help, Doctor Mystic, but I'm more of a technology guy and I don't really know enough about magic to assist you over the phone. Maybe if you come see me I can give you some pointers.")
- He's done a particular mission or arc for her to unlock the ability to call.
- He's within a certain level range. If he's leveled beyond, say, 5, she'll only train him face-to-face. But maybe Blue Steel can train him remotely -- as long as he's visited him in King's Row at least once and done whatever he needs to do to qualify for "remote access" to that trainer.
And every trainer could work like that. Once you've "outgrown" Ms. Liberty, you have to meet Blue Steel at least once (and maybe meet a few qualifications) before he'll level you remotely. Eventually he won't be able to do it anymore and you'll move on to Valkyrie, Mynx, and so on. They'd all, of course, continue to train anyone who actually walked up to them, just like they do now; the restrictions would only affect who could "call" them to train.
On a side note, I always thought it was odd that everyone uses the same trainers. They're not origin-specific or AT-specific or anything. I mean, in practice I guess it's better to just say, "Ms. Liberty is over there, go see her to train," but she's a Martial Arts/Invulnerability scrapper with a few lightning powers... why am I going to her to learn how to more effectively use my fire aura? Or how to pull random objects through a gravitational wormhole and hurl them at my enemies? Or how to summon a more powerful demon than the ones I already command?
Hypothetically, if you were going to call a trainer, you would have to be in that same zone, and have visited them already. Doing a quick mission to earn their grace might be asking too much, but it's worth a shot to earn that contact number.
I also understand the whole concept that you go to your respectable trainer to learn your respectable build. Not a one-trainer-does-all like it's currently setup. Quite honestly, I'm surprised CoH didn't do this to begin with since they are very story orientated - AT based trainers like the origin based enhancements. On the flip side, we really don't need a whole mess of trainers in every zone. -

The Negotiator badge flashback is bugged due to Galaxy City changes and Efficiency Expert has never been (and probably never will be) in the flashback system. -
Wow! CoH is finally kicking butt and taking names with new game content! This year has been so exciting. With the release of the end-game content and the LFG, I'm really excited for the future of CoH. Now if we can fine-tune the LFG to be global and include all TF's and Trials, we'd be set!

I'm really digging the whole Blaster Defender (aka Blender) builds Defenders can do now. To have Fire Blast is awesome!
How does everyone else feel?
For or against?
Pros or cons? -
On Freedom, I've done STFs and ITFs and Eden Trials within 25 minutes. I've done Synapse and Dr. Q TF's within an hour. I've done Numina TFs within 20 minuties. Katie Hannon TFs within 15 minutes. And, yes, I've sped through 100s of Lam's and BAFs for those VRs and T4s.
So yes, I'm guilty of doing the fast ASAP pace, but I never said it was better. It's the fastest and easiest route to the end rewards, yes, but not the best way out there. As Purple_Lynx said, that's all relative. What I personally think is best isn't what others may think is best, which is why I didn't declare it the best. But I can say it was the easiest way to get it done the fastest way.
And for TFs like Synapse, Sister Psyche, or Dr Q, I'd definitely rather speed through those. I enjoy the teams. I enjoy the camaraderie. I enjoy the great xp and the badges at the end. What I don't like is taskforces taking hours to complete. My wife actually left me because of a long old-school Atta mission that took 4 hours to complete. It's sad, but I can at least LOL a little about it now. She was barely ok with me playing so much. But when I got stuck there for 4 hours, she'd had it. Please be gentle with your comments. So yeah, I'd prefer faster TFs.
The point is, give others some slack within the new server. It's not like it's only a small group of peole who are doing things different, because those same people came from a server where, most likely, everyone was doing the same thing. To them, everyone else is doing it different.
It's all relative. -
Quote:See? This makes me sad. And Celestial, I've seen you around in VIP channels, so it's not like your voice is lost or anything, but I feel like removing the Help channel makes you miss out on some good stuff. And some of these debates on the Help channel are rather interesting and sometimes a nice change of pace from the xp grind. And sometimes, there is some genuinely useful information that comes across there. For over a year now, one of the very first things I do after making a new toon is remove the Help channel from the global chat tab.
As for a Religion discussion, it's been a long time since I've read the EULA but I'm thinking discussing religion would be covered in Freedom of Speech and Expression. -
It is when you have to spend a Vet Reward Token on it. From experience, this is an option that many would enjoy. If you don't, that's cool. My suggestion is only a suggestion and still stands. I appreciate you weighing in your opinion.
-
I've always wanted to do one of these, but never got the chance. And after it got bugged for sooo long after it's original release, when it was finally fixed, I wasn't paying attention to notice.
I'll definitely try to make one of these. Thx for the info! -
I think some of you are missing the key idea: "Vet Power"
Removing trainers or making it where everyone can call the trainer would be fail.
I think it should have a 1 hour recharge as well. -
Quote:Exalted United? oooh I don't have that one. New Channel. Yay! And 175 online? Not too shabby.I made a point of noting the dedicated channels in help one evening, and got jumped on by someone bemoaning the lack of an actual global channel and how stupid it was the other 'globals' were capped at 150. When I pointed out there were 160 in Exalted United at the time it didn't even slow him down.
Ultimately I removed help from all but the help tab (which I never have up).
On the plus side, Exalted United was up over 175 within a few minutes after my posts... so maybe I helped some.
So far, the Channels to use seem to be:
VIP
BMT Exalted
Exalted Events
Global VIP Network
Exalted LFG

lol I looked at that and cringed as well XD but figured people would get what I meant.
And Thirty-Seven, I didn't say fast was better. Just using the difference in culture between different servers as an example. Never implied which was better or worse, just different. And yes, we "threw out" certain methods that didn't work for us - not that we are superior. Just a different play style.
I'm not being ignorant here standing my ground saying, "This is not how I do things. It's different, and different is bad!" Actually, I'm saying just the opposite, because I see people get very defensive when suggestions are made. We have a server where masses of people have joined from different servers (how's that Aneko :P) so there are going to be different play styles for running different things.
Ex: one server might go counter-clockwise on the turrents in Lam. Another might go clockwise. One might do them first. Another might skip them altogether. And another might not have a style but whatever comes first.
Different Culture. Different Play-style. I think it's exciting to see, and I have nothing against it, but rather curious about it. -
I don't think the trainers should be removed. I just think it would be nice to have a vet power that was (in keeping with the CoX Lore) a direct phone number to the contact of the zone you are in at the time.
I mean, if we've been around that long (again keeping with the Lore and the illusion), we should know the trainers pretty well by now, yes?
Quote:You made some good, humorous points there. I LOL'd at finish the Bridge to Nowhere. However, play the game, it's fine like it is, I will not support. This isn't some console game. For this game to not become stagnant, it has to evolve, and evolve quickly. And sometimes, the devs do take notice of our suggestions, so suggest we should.Originally Posted by houtex/Play the game. It's fine like it is. Much like Real Life(tm), there are just some things you have to deal with, this is one of them.
//There are MANY other things they need to fix, this is NOT one of them.
As for needing to "fix" anything, never said anything about fixing, but adding. If they took away the trainers completely, I would miss them. -

Superflamemacguffin versus The Hellions!
SFMG and his plucky sidekick, Catgrrlerper, are busting a Hellion hideout
SFMG: Gadzooks! These Hellions are playing havoc with us, Cat!
Cat: We just need to believe in ourselves, sir!
SFMG immolates a Hellion lieutenant and suddenly becomes more powerful (i.e. 'dings to the next level')
SFMG: I feel so inspired! So much strength coursing through my veins! I feel I could escape from any restraint, my insight into our dire situation is uncanny, the righteous rage I'm feeling will surely win the day!
Cat: Well you've always been phenomenally lucky, sir. And robust to boot. Now that you've got your second wind we can push through with a resurgence to stop the Hellions and their plot to--
SFMG whips out a slightly-charred cellphone and dials a number
Cat: Sir, what are you DOING?! The Hellions! They're about to finish summoning the hell-spawned BOSS_NAME!
SFMG waves a hand dismissively at his scantily-clad-for-no-good-reason sidekick. He finishes the call then gives the woman a thumbs up
SFMG: Good news, I just called my trainer and now I can [Jump Kick] those Hellions into the next life!
Cat faceplams
End Scene

The trainers are not particularly far from most places. Yes, zones like Indy port can be annoying.
But I'd be up for more trainers in large zones (and hopefully a good reason as to why they're there - zone revamps anyone?) than having the option to 'call' a trainer to magically receive a new power.
Oh but do give those pesky villain brokers and detectives a cell, ja?
I'll see your scenario and raise you a rebuttal scenario.
Neo: Can you fly that thing?
Trinity: Not yet.
Pulls out cellphone and dials
Tank: Operator.
Trinity: Tank, I need a pilot program for a B-212 Helicopter.
Tank quickly starts pulling up the program
Trinity: Hurry.
Tank uploads program and "trains" Trinity. Then PRESTO!
Trinity: Let's go. -

This is in response to a thread about Attitude in Exalted. I've seen a few talk about attitude in global channels like /help.
This "attitude" is debatable. It's a perception. And we're all going to bring a perception from our own respectable servers, and it's going to be a bit of a culture shock. This is a very curious and neat opportunity to suddenly merge all the servers and experience how each one is different.
An Example:
I came from Freedom. And servers like Freedom and Virtue who have so many players that we've tested every which way something can be done until we've found the fastest and easiest way to do it. We are extremely fast paced. TFs and Trials are done in record times. And we find these methods within a day of any release.
So coming to Exalted and teaming with people from unfamiliar servers with lower populations is a complete culture shock. One, I can't just barrel through the missions like I've been nurtured to do. And two, the leader might be using a method to finish the objective that my server has already tested and thrown out from day one - but to them, thats the most up to date way to do it.
We settle into comfort zones naturally. And when somebody throws a new idea of how something should be done, it's the proverbial monkey wrench, and we recoil. We get defensive, and sometimes we take it as an assault on our methods. We are comfortable in how we do our TFs and Trials because it's how we've come to know them as the best possible way to do it. Sometimes, they are. Sometimes, they're not. Either way, some get affronted that somebody is questioning their methods.
It's not a bad thing. Just a perception or an attitude. An understanding. By all means, make suggestions. Help people out. We move forward and grow by calculated risks. Hopefully, those people you are helping don't automatically misinterpret your suggestions as attitude, but understand up to 50% may.
This is a neat opportunity. To me, it's like visiting another country. All of a sudden, there are heroes doing similar things, but in different ways. Sounds like a fun new challenge on top of the already awesome new content we've been given in the past year.
Let's roll with it. -
Ok, OP... If you haven't experienced this "attitude" but only heard about it, why go as far as starting a thread about it. I get it. I do. You are proud of the server, and it upset you, and you got defensive like a mama bear over her cub. I get it. I mean, why else would you jump to conclusions so quickly.
However, I've seen attitude. And let me assure you with complete sincerity, Exalted is very tame. Yes, debates arrise. But debates aren't bad. And they can be rather informative. -
Was able to get my mains:
Brigg
Athanatos
Ath
I've always liked Vesuvius and wanted to get it, but it was a week in when I remembered, and it was already too late. -
I don't see what the problem is. Help questions always get answered. So what if people chat on there. There's nothing wrong with people being social. I sometimes find it entertaining to watch. And yes, I do chime in from time to time.
For those of you who want to be OCD and try to rule over the help channel with scripts, rules, and ridicule - just stop. You can only control what you can control. And other people paying for the game just as you are, you can't control. Let it go.
The Help channel serves its purpose and you get more out of it than just that. Seems like a plus to me. -
Parry, if you keep it going, will be like running on a 4th tier purple inspiration (Amazing Luck). Mid's only shows it stacking 3 times, but I've had it stacked 4 times before. And you can slot it for Defense Sets which will boost that defense boost with each stack.
In other words, if u slot it for defense and keep it stacked at least twice, it's worth 2 of your defense toggles.
