not the best rip offs i have seen.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why is everyone so serious about this? I understand they are Marvel charcters and that this thread is going to be deleted by a GM anytime now so why cant people just give nice comments?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The thread is not my main concern. The violations of the EULA are. As I said, please delete or /petition these characters immediately.

I'd appreciate it if you could email me to confirm that you've done so.

    Thanks.

    Co* X-men

All of these characters are violations of the EULA, especially if they have names that resemble those of the Marvel characters.

If they are Level 1 characters, the best thing to do would be to delete them immediately.

If you've spent any time playing any of them, please /petition immediately and inform the GMs about the characters, so that they can help you change the names and costumes.

    Thanks.
  4. I'm afraid I wasn't very well at the end of last week, and was off on Friday.

Once I've sorted through all the usual Monday chores, I'll be getting back to work on this. I'll do my very best to have the winners announced in the next couple of days.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
Damn, I guess my stone/fire is a scranker. Better tell my team too, I don't think they noticed as they never had any aggro... while I see random tauntbots on other teams losing aggro everywhere because they haven't their damage/aggro aura and Taunt only hits 5 at a time. Oops.

Reals tanks have shields, mez protection, self-heals, aura, AoE attacks (taunt is useful too, but not needed). They do fine and have fun tanking for 8-man teams.

Forum stars have taunt, shields, mez protection and self-heals, but few attacks and sometimes no aura. They complain about how tanks were better in I3/I4, how it's impossible to tank now, how tanks aren't balanced, how people that do fine and have fun with their tanks are lying or scrankers, blah blah blah. They'll try to say Taunt is the best thing ever in every thread they see.

I'll let you choose which one you want to be.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This kind of post really isn't very helpful, and doesn't contribute anything particularly useful to the thread.

Please consider your posts more carefully in future.
  6. [ QUOTE ]
title says it all, maybe i'm just blind..?

    [/ QUOTE ]
It was a clear violation of several aspects of the Message Board Rules and Guidelines, including:

    [ QUOTE ]
Please keep in mind that this is a board solely dedicated to City of Heroes – therefore, discussions having nothing to do with the game (for example, real world news/matters) will be removed. We would like to keep this board City of Heroes specific, and therefore encourage you to participate in other message boards available on the Internet should you wish to participate in non-game related discussions. We welcome any topics on this board that directly relate to City of Heroes, comic books and/or general hero culture.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    And...

    [ QUOTE ]
    3. Keep feedback high-quality.

Please avoid frivolous and duplicate postings. Threads to announce that the servers are up (after a downtime), for example, or threads made just because you want to be the 'first post' in a newly created section of the board, are not quality postings and cause us extra work to remove.

Avoid posting random and off-topic conversation in the General Discussion forum. Off-topic threads/posts will be removed without notice or explanation.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    And...

    [ QUOTE ]
    2. No spamming or thread bumping.

There are no circumstances under which spamming or thread bumping is acceptable. If you ask a question on the board and it hasn’t been addressed by a moderator, there is a reason for that (or there is not an answer currently available). Bumping or spamming will not make the answer appear any faster, so please refrain from doing it. This includes, but is not limited to: comments not contributing to the board, advertisements, cross posts, and messages posted repeatedly.

    [/ QUOTE ]
My apologies for letting it run on so long - between the recent patch, Good vs. Evil Combined Edition, Veteran Rewards program, upcoming Halloween Event, the Brighton Player Meet and various other stuff it's been a busy couple of weeks.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
    Well its back now

    Fire

    [/ QUOTE ]
It was removed for a reason - if you're not sure what that was, please consult the Message Board Rules and Guidelines.

    Locking this now.
  8. The Creative Genius for August 2006 is ScarletVengeance for the amazing:

    Character Portraits

    Congratulations, ScarletVengeance.
  9. By the end of this week, I promise.

Again, my apologies for the delay - things have been busier than I expected, and I didn't want to rush through the selection of the winners.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
Its a war zone people - anything goes.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Incorrect.

    [ QUOTE ]
Its a pvp zone - anything that doesn't break the eula goes.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Correct.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
If it is allowed in the zones and is not in breach of the EULA, I fail to see how it is baiting.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Which, I suspect, is the problem.

Using the chat systems to communicate with other players is not, in and of itself, a violations of the EULA.

Using the chat systems to verbally abuse or insult other players is a violation of the EULA.

    See the difference?

    [ QUOTE ]
And can we finally have something from a red name about whetehr mob tp is allowed? Assuming its not excessive and assuming its not done to grief can someone finally have the courage to stand up and say whether it is allowed or not? I am sick of explaining my point in broadcast.

    [/ QUOTE ]
In and of itself, Mob TPing is not a violation of the EULA. CuppaJo made a post on the US boards a while back that made this clear. I know that you are aware of this post.

That does not mean that Mob TPing cannot be used to violate the EULA.

    [ QUOTE ]
Is it the fear of saying that something so unpopular is allowed that is holding a red name back? Has no one got the courgae to say it in an official post?

    [/ QUOTE ]
If I was afraid of saying something that people might find unpopular, I would be in the wrong job.

    [ QUOTE ]
Or is the excuse well, it depends on the circumstances going to be used again?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    It's not an excuse, it's a fact.

Is sending someone a /tell a violation of the EULA? It depends on what the /tell says.

    [ QUOTE ]
If so, here are the circumsatnces. Villain enters zone. Hero enters zone. They both fly to hotspot. Villain tp's hero to the arachnos mob next to him. Villain holds hero with a web grenade. Arachnos hit hero until hero is dead!

Is that a breach of the EULA please?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    No.

It won't gain you any PvP Reputation/Meteor Fragments/Bounty/Launch Codes/Temporal Points, though, as the game won't consider it 'your' victory.

    [ QUOTE ]
    Thankyou!

    [/ QUOTE ]
    You're welcome.

    [ QUOTE ]
If its not a breach of the EULA, then talking about it on here cannot be considered baiting.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That depends on what the 'talking' involves.

    [ QUOTE ]
And no, I don't mob tp to get people to swear. If you think that is what I said, please read it again.

    [/ QUOTE ]
My apologies if I misunderstood. You said, "If someone is abusive to me I just wait for them to swear and petition them. A mob tp may or may not hasten this process."

What exactly were you trying to say?
  12. [ QUOTE ]
It doesnt matter in the slightest whether you think you were guilty or not, if the GM reveiwing the incident does thats all that matters and there is nothing you can do about it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That last bit is incorrect. Players are free to appeal any disciplinary decision by contacting Customer Support (the easiest way is for them to simply reply to the email notifying the player of the disciplinary action), at which point a Senior GM will investigate the situation.

If, after this, they still feel that they have been treated unfairly, they should email me and I'll look into it.
  13. [ QUOTE ]
This thread is why I don't do PvP.

Couple of things grabbed my attention straight away. Firstly bobthedemon said "When someone is abusive to me I wait until they swear then I petition them". He didn't say, "I provoke people so that they swear at me, then I petition them".

    [/ QUOTE ]
    No, he said:

    [ QUOTE ]
If someone is abusive to me I just wait for them to swear and petition them. A mob tp may or may not hasten this process.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    (Emphasis mine.)

Hence my post asking people not to attempt to bait people into breaking the EULA so that they can be /petitioned.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
I have never once gloated about causing debt on the forums or in broadcast so watch what you say please.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You have, however, gloated and boasted about TPing people into mobs.

As debt will be a direct consequence of this, it's perhaps an easy mistake for someone to make.

    [ QUOTE ]
So if you are talking about me I would like to draw the mods attention to your post and have it assessed for flaming.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you wish to notify me of a post, please do so. Posting about notifying a moderator achieves no positive or constructive purpose, so please don't do it.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Bridger where is the line drawn when someone intentionally gives you debt in a PvP Zone ?

Is it considered if you enter a PvP zone you should be prepared for anything that happens in the zone including debt ?

is it in a pvp zone anything goes?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Within the EULA, yes.

Just TPing someone into critters isn't against the EULA. Harrassment, abusive or innappropriate language and so on are.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I usually send about 5 petitions a wekk on average for swearing in the pvp zones. If someone is abusive to me I just wait for them to swear and petition them. A mob tp may or may not hasten this process.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Please don't attempt to bait people in order to /petition them. Our GMs look out for this kind of thing when they investigate /petitions.
  17. [ QUOTE ]
Sure there is petitioning but that does not feel right in the end (a bit of an overreaction usually and then what should a GM do about it anyway) though I've done it in more extreme cases.

    [/ QUOTE ]
As a general rule of thumb, if something bothers you, /petition about it. Especially when it's clearly a violation of the EULA (which swearing, abuse and spamming all are).

The GMs have several options open to them, depending on the situation and the results of their investigation.
  18. Okay, nominations are now closed - sorry for the delay, it's been a busy week.

The winner will be announced next week.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
    apparently you cannot read properly

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think this is the sort of thing that got your previous post deleted. BTW. I doubt anyone here takes issue with you playing a spine/regen anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]

the difference is it was a reponse to a flame, which I am not going to treat with a large amount of respect, no.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Just for future reference - someone else breaking the rules does not give anyone else the right to break them in response.

On these boards, two wrongs do not make a right.

If anyone feels that a post is in violation of the rules or otherwise in need of attention, they should click the small 'Notify Moderator' icon at the bottom of the post in question (it's the third in the 'Post extras:' section, the one that looks like a page of text with a 'cancel' sign over it).
  20. [ QUOTE ]
Excuse me, but what is the point in holding a debate when almost all of my posts are being deleted?

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you ever have any concerns over the moderation of these boards, please email me on bridger@ncsoft.com and I'll be happy to discuss the matter.

Normally, I would remove this post as well, but as you chose to raise these points in public rather than with me directly, I feel it's probably best to address your concerns here.

    [ QUOTE ]
I have to assume because there were in no way in violation of any forum rule

    [/ QUOTE ]
On the contrary. One of your posts broke the rules by calling another board member's attitudes 'lame' - a fairly mild insult, but from little insults do great flame wars grow. Another was removed for using bad language.

In addition, there were a couple of later posts that were veering into unpleasantness. Although I was concerned about them, these were not removed intentionally - the moderation tools on these boards automatically remove any replies to a post that is removed. There's nothing I can do about this, other than suggest that board users pay attention to which post they are replying to and avoid replying to posts that they feel are in violation of the rules.

My apologies to those whose perfectly valid posts got caught up in this.

    [ QUOTE ]
that simply whoever deleted them didn't like that my arguments were correct.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I have never - and will never - remove a post from these boards because I personally disagree with the opinions of the poster. Posts are removed only when they violate the rules.

    [ QUOTE ]
Yet another tyranical rule of free speech? Welcome to the internet I guess.

    [/ QUOTE ]
'Censorship' posts are a violation of the Message Board Rules and Guidelines.

Again, if you have a concern about the moderation of these boards, please email me directly at bridger@ncsoft.com and I'll be happy to discuss the matter.

    [ QUOTE ]
This will be the last time I engage in any debate on here. I am heavily disappointed.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    I'm sorry to hear this.

    [ QUOTE ]
A pathetic display of power abuse when it was not in the least bit required.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you wish to make a formal complaint, please send it via email to bridger@ncsoft.com and I will pass it on to my superiors.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Well if people would stop mentioning it, it would just go away. I'm only answering their questions.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Except you're not.

In an effort to get this thread back on topic and avoid me having to lock it, please clearly explain the use of Rest that you continue to allude to.

    Thanks.

  23. The Creative Genius for July 2006 is Coile, for the excellent 'A for Android' fiction, including:

A for Android: Pantheon of Beauty
A for Android: Fragrance of Madness

    Congratulations, Coile.

    [ QUOTE ]
How about a level 50 duels? One on One - mano a mnao...to the death.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because they are pointless. By having duels, you're excluding everyone's who's PvP toons are built for support.

One on one tournaments have always been pretty pointless as the PvP in CoX is blatantly geared for team PvP.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Okay, can we leave this here, please, and get the thread back on topic by focussing on Lord_of_Dust's suggestions?

If any of you wish to suggest additional types of event, I think it would be best to PM Lord_of_Dust, as suggesting them in this thread clearly isn't working.

    Thanks.
  25. Okay, I'm closing the nominations now. The winner should be announced by the end of the week.

(We're still working our way through the nominations for October to May, and will announce them as soon as we can.)
