Quote:This will likely be the only way I ever get interrested in and actually play another MM. As I'd roll the catgirl MMAny time invested in MMs from now until the end of COH should be spent making all the pets be player configurable, as if each one was a seperate toon that needs a costume. Once they do that they never need to make a new MM set ever again, and each time they add new costume part or animiation rig MMs would be able to use them on thier pets costumes.

Quote:Oh well that's cool and awesome of course. All of the City of Heroes comic makers have my allegiance as a fan. It takes months and months of work and dedication for them to create each comic. People who use their imaginations to make things are my favorite people.
For that, no doubt, GG is good.
Sadly I haven't thought her portrals of signature characters has been all that good, and how she portrays the CoH universe relies to heavy on game mechanics to be any good as well. -

Quote:I think your all forgetting a few things. It's not a question of her physical appearance. No, she doesn't look that young. No-one in this game looks particularly young, because our costume editor, for all its strengths, is incredibly abstract when it comes to the finer points of a person's physique.
What this is about is a question of Penny's mannerisms, attitude and behaviour. She sounds and acts like a kid. If the Penelope Yin of Faultline is supposed to be an 18-year-old woman, then she's an incredibly juvenilie one. I get that she's acting cute and friendly and all that, but there are certain mannerisms inherent to children that even young adults don't often keep.
The real tragedy here is that Penny's 14-year-old kid writing is some of the best in the game from a technical standpoint. She sounds spot on as a little kid, and she's probably the only character in the game who manages to act youthful without acting like an idiot.
1) People's personalities vary as it is.
2) Ficitional universe. So even if people didn't act like Penny at that age (but that's already false), people in such universes tend to have personalities people usually wouldn't.
Hell look at Superman and people complaining about his personality. -
Quote:What's a fair shake? It's an MMO. CoH has seemed nothing but fair in the soloist department.I have quite given up on soloists being given a fair shake....but I still plan on enjoying Dark Astoria with my 50s despite it.
Lisa.
A couple days of grinding versus 16 days grinding solo. That isn't fair? -
Quote:How does that fulfill the desire of the players surpassing the Phalanx?Bringing back Coyote in any form would be fantastic and the transformation power was one I hadn't considered, even though it's totally obvious. And considering Coyote was originally a player character, you'd then potentially have two player characters in the Phalanx, thereby fulfilling the desire of the Devs to have us surpass the Phalanx.
S.
What it does is make player charactrs NPCs, and elevates two ex-PCs above the PC.
Personally, I'm okay with the FP being the premiere supergroup. Doesn't mean they're the OMG BESTEST EVER superheroes. Though they could be portrayed as being a bit better, but I still blame that on the point of SSA 1 just to be to get rid of Jack. -
Quote:While I like Batman, I have to agree with this.Let's be honest, between trying to be a walking Swiss Army Knife. Batman is very lucky. Tactics and skill will only take you so far, but Batman is at thepoint where he is a little too nonchalant about going against being that could kill him with a glance. No I personally like the Punisher's attitude toward super beings, in that they change the entire narrative of the battlefield. The Punisher verses the Sentry involved the Punisher running for his life. This should be every encounter Batman has with any villain that can stand up to Superman.
I do think of Batman as a superhero, but he should be way more low tier.
With Batman, it's almost as if the other supers are downplayed in their intelligence when compared to Batman. And his contingency plans are meh imo.
Knowing all that they do about Batman, if a superhero that knew of Bat's secret ID went evil, the first thing I'd say they'd do is incapacitate him (if not kill him).
Flash goes evil? Zoom to the batcave and disable Batman before he has a chance to put his own plans into effect!
Same with Superman. -
Quote:I did say gameplay wise.Nah, one arrow is all it takes with her:
ftp://ftp.coh.com/comics/topcow/comic_11.pdf
Of course, the fact that Manti keeps doing it suggests something seriously wrong with that relationship... -
Maybe the devs just want to have fun and release it on 29th as it'll be the only time they can do so for 4 years!
-
Quote:There's a lot who seem to forget this part of the game. What exactly would it take for you to consider it a "fair shake"? Being able to advance as fast as trials? For cripes' sake, it IS still an MMO even if you choose to solo. Of course there are going to be better rewards faster from teaming...
...and note this is coming from an avid soloer. -

Quote:First, the idea of inspirations/enhancements is just stupid to any story period.+1.
Let's not stop with Stun Arrow. How about Cryonic Arrow? EMP Arrow? Surely Manti didn't burn all his inspirations getting through Oranbega; I'd hope he'd be carrying at least one wakie. Maybe a temp power Rez Other, like what comes in the Super Packs? Or how about taking an NPC with one of the many powersets capable of rezzing others? Or maybe even one of the players with a rez power!
Really, I've enjoyed most of the SSA missions until 5 and 6. However, now the forced actions we have to play along with and the utter incompetence of many of the signature heroes are wearing far too thin. This is stretching suspension of belief too far at this point, even for experienced and open-minded players. A snippet of conversation in teamspeak while running the final leg of SSA mission 6 last night, with names redacted for anonymity:
Player1: another ritual?
Player2: yeah
Player1: i'm sure it will go smoothly with no complications whatsoever
Player2: LOL
Player3: lol
Player2: I'm sure
Player1: because we all know these things never have disastrous, unexpected consequences
Player3: right
This is about where I stand now. Looking back at the SSA missions and our new Valentine's day mission arc...
Mission 1--Mysterious villain's magic ritual using big obelisk drains Synapse's powers and nearly kills him, empowers a Lost Boss and nearly empowers Echidna.
Mission 2--no magic ritual. Yay.
Mission 3--Magic ritual set up to "kill" Alexis Duncan-Cole. Not really needed, but it's establishing a pattern.
Mission 4--Magic ritual using the Dirge of Chaos sets up Malaise's attack on Sister Psyche, nearly killing her and allowing him to force himself into her mind.
Mission 5--Magic ritual drains Statesman's powers, allowing Wade to kill him.
Mission 6--Magic ritual to supposedly help Sister Psyche take control of her mind again goes horribly wrong, leading to Manticore killing her and inadvertently sending her powers to Darrin Wade.
Widow Maker arc--Magic ritual goes horribly wrong, nearly killing the player character protagonist.
Well. At this point, even Flambeaux can figure that when someone says, "Hey, let's try out this magic ritual to try and accomplish _______," the proper response is, "NO." So why are these supposedly best-of-the-best NPCs doing something incredibly stupid without preparation, without backup, without assistance, against a master villain who has proven smarter and more cunning than anyone has ever given him credit for... and doing the same dumb things over and over again? Logically speaking, there is no reason, and at this point, "to move the story along" just isn't good enough for me. I'm at the point that as much as I want to see the end of the story and the final outcome, I just can't justify my main character--with nearly eight years real-time experience as a Hero--being either so incredibly stupid or so astonishingly naive as to go along with plans like these.
However, reading Redlynne's post on page 11 explicating the theory that Sister Psyche and possibly Manticore himself are setting up Wade gives me some hope. Maybe, just maybe, we're seeing one of the Heroes start to out-think Darrin Wade, and that would give me some positive feelings for this arc again. I really hope this is the case, and the little bit about the speech balloons really does imply something like this. Red, I hope you're right, because otherwise this arc is going to go down as a case study in Supergroup incompetence.
By the reasoning of using them, one shouldn't fear anything. In fact one would have to wonder why there's ghosts in the game period.
"Oh hey! Here's an awaken."
Next, who says all defeats in the game are getting knocked out.
Combining a storyline with game mechanics is dumb. Did the idea that Dr Brainstorm (or was it Aeon, or someone else entirely) brought about Power Proliferation not que people into that?
You know, one of the most terribly recieved storylines for the game. The storyline so bad, it's been retconned out.
Or what, people want to mix and match when it's okay so they can complain about something?
This isn't to say one has to wonder why Manti didn't use a different arrow, but maybe he couldn't.
Also game play wise, if you're going to stetch it that far, how was Manti able to even kill her with one arrow? Anyone who's run the LRSF knows she isn't going to go down with just one arrow. -
Quote:Some of us like the sounds of Staff Fighting.Same.
However, I'd be fine with pushing it out another month (edit: or however long it took them to do so) so they can get the sound effects of Staff Fighting worked out along with a real power to replace DS.
That said, my guess is Feb 28th only because I hope Staff Fighting which was said to not be released with i22's arrival but during i22, can be released in time for double xp weekend. -
Quote:That seems like an aweful long wait time for the #2 voted melee set, when we have the very distant 3rd place as per votes melee set. :/It is possible, keep in mind that NPCs have been used to show off a powerset before it was made available to the players in the past.
NPCs are testbeds for these things just to see if they work usually.
Shield set first appeared and was NPC only and a couple of months later it was available to players, the wolves in the Haunted House event were a test of the 4 legged skeleton and now we're getting beast mastery for Masterminds.
I wouldn't be surprised if Yins unique powers were opened up to the playerbase in six months to a years time.
If they're considered 'over the top' then perhaps they might be Incarnate abilities, her PBAoE Psi damage knock up could be a Psi damage judgement for example. -

Quote:If that's the case why not kill off the least interresting characters?Don't really see it as "We're killing off Jack's characters!" so much as doing some much needed house-cleaning. From a storytelling point of view, a sundered Phalanx gives a lot more options than us all being a bunch of B-listers while they are apparently Earth's greatest heroes... who do very little.
Also, I want Penny's powers.
Citadel? Let him die. He's really quite dull. Or does it go back to the early announcements of Who Will Die and everyone saying if Citadel died, no one would really miss him? -
Quote:I know. But I see the complaints and then think "plenty of people make such characters" still the vigilantes in CoH are suckie anyways. It's not - otherwise, we wouldn't be sent to hunt down and arrest vigilantes in some of the missions
I want Spider-Man style vigilantes and not Punisher style. Which you can have if you choose by concept, just not by game mechanics.
Also, gaaah...so this whole SSA was to just rid the game of Jack Emmert's characters? If so, that's lame. Did he not give up the rights to these characters when he sold the game to NCSoft?
Was there something in the contract that said "Jack gets the rights to said characters at some point"? -
Maybe it was just some of the enemies I was fighting, but 1.5k HP was noticable even with softcapped defenses imo.

Quote:Same reason you have people making characters that outright kill criminals and get away with it.Fine, then you've shown that Manticore has about the same amount of background as anyone else without showing any pressing need for a "reset". Let's face it, if you hadn't been around for the wedding and no player had told you about it then you'd be hard pressed to even demonstrate in the game that Justin and Shalice are married. You sure can't show that Justin has somehow gone soft and that he needs some hardening up.
It's basically just "What if Manticore had to kill his wife to save the world? What a horrible choice to have to make! Let's do that!" It has nothing to do with expanding Manticore's character. Jack's legacy, such that it is, gets laid to rest and everyone's favorite teen grows up and moves into the vacated spot on the team.
Frankly, I want to know why Manticore is free to participate in chapter six instead of sitting in jail on charges of attempted murder.
Obviously, hero license is a license to kill criminals. -
I didn't think her look was all that bad...when drawn. It did suffer greatly from the old costume pieces in game though. :/
-
I'd have considered Sister Psyche the second most well known of the CoH signature heroes...and they off her?!
She was one of my favorites too!
I can only imagine i23 having a lot of reshaping to do with Psyche and Statesman gone, not to mention any possible future deaths! -
I approved so much, I linked it to all in a global channel just so they can bask in your glory!

Quote:You know. I never did find it hard to travel through the hollows.I learned well how to run around without travel powers in the Hollows. Where everyone else was asking for Taxibots or "TP meh!" was shouted everywhere, I, with my lowly level 5 (or better yet, a 1!) was intentionally running across the deepest parts of the Hollows, for practice. Because it helped in the rest of the game to know how to avoid everything else... especially in Perez, at the time, dang those groups..
It also helped in my 'dexterity' at knowing how and when to jump over obsticles, how to map out where to run to... My fav is going from Cherry Hills to the transmission tower, right through the lowest part and back up again... all without dyin', or even gettin' hit.
I still go there an intentionally and visit. Just to see what's happening... which isn't all that much, true.
I always got the feeling that those who couldn't do it, where the ones who just wanted to run straight to mission.
I'd always turn on sprint, then begin the long run while keeping my eyes open for enemies to avoid by running on the other side of the street or lower on the hill or what have you.
Of course, that's not to superhero feeling. Still, never found it hard. -
Hmmm...on my main I have all at minimum except the shoulders (1/4 inch over minimum) and legs (maxed).
My only real goal was to try to make her 1) look teenish and 2) keep the standard hourglass comicbook figure.
Though I was often told all of my alt characters looked like my main, so I've recently begun changing the sliders (which includes the chest slider) trying to change them up while still looking good (to me anyways). -
I like em! While I don't know the characters, it just feels like the posters convey enough to give you a hint about them.
