An honest point that still has absolutely nothing beyond a coincidental relationship with the actual reason for the decision.

All of whom would have upset just as many people, for various and sundry reasons.

Irrelevant, if their intent was to maintain the same "balance" the team had previously.

The top? I didn't really get that from their prior comments. More relevant in the overall scheme of things? That remains to be seen. And... you don't? Well, that's you. When you're empowered to speak for everyone else that plays the game, please let us know.

Your peers. And how is this "new" in the game? I saved Statesman from Tyrant ages ago... just like "everyone else".

Funny, I got that feeling around level 40, for the most part.

Lastly, in my opinion, the people who are kvetching about Paragon getting rid of Statesman and assuming it was for purely petty, vindictive motives are the people who can't accept the notion that there was any other reason involved. This is typical in people who make such decisions themselves for the same reasons.

    Think on it.
When all the characters to die are Jack's characters...what thought do you have on it?

Do you believe it to be just a conincedence?

And it's not just /my/ opinion. Others share the opinion.

And I can accept there was other reasons involved. I havent seen any other reason that has made sense though. Care to give me some?

    Electric Armor

Brutes getting Fury to boost Lightning Field where as LF doesnt crit, also puts ELA in a Brutes favor.

With Staff/ELA being the pairing mentioned, Brutes would get the better resists. Solo wise, Energy Resist for sure, and the other resists if you take and use the Tier 9 godmode.

Brutes as mentioned will also make out more from Fury helping build up LF's damage.

However, I think Scrappers (think being the key word here) will do more damage with Staff Fighting though, due to Scrappers generally making out more from +DMG buffs. But the Fury built LF will help even that out.

while I prefere Scrappers myself, I admit my FM/ELA wished for LF to have a taunt aura, as lots of enemies ran from LF and FSC.

It wasn't to the point of so annoying I quit. More like, "Ya know, sometimes I just wish..."

It would. But some of them are close...for instance, Initial Strike has an animation time of .8 seconds while Storm Kick's and Thunder Kick's are .83 seconds.

So yes, some tweaking would be needed. But at the same time, I'd be willing to pay for that tweaking.

That's two hand to hand sets that would be improved so much with many alternate animations.

Now I'm not saying all sets wouldnt be improved, but the straight hand to hand sets could be improved the most imo, as it lets one decide which set's mechanics they like best, and then mix and match the animations for a variety of fighting styles!

  7. Has anyone figured out the best ST DPS chain for both of these sets (with and without the use of Gloom)?

I'm trying to decide which to go with for my project, and haven't decided on which to go with yet!
  8. Well there's things like BRuising to take into account as well, JB.

I was hoping to get info on this, as it's because of your posts JB that I have decided to roll another Tanker (WP/EM, FA/FM, IA/IM at 50, and a ELA/TW at 49.something).

Problem with them is I haven't enjoyed them. Okay, to be fair, I enjoyed WP/EM lots untill the EM changes.

But before I go an make the Tanker, I'd like info on what I want to build for.
  9. I can't ait to take my daughter to see this! Because, ya know, I want to see it, and I'll just hope she'll enjoy it too.
  10. At least 31 shots with out reloading with two revolvers
  11. Did Jack create any other characters, so we can expect them to die too?
  12. Really, even if it wasn't meat to be out of spite, it felt it. That's what it comes down to.

When people were guessing who would die, there were plenty who thought it would be Statesman to get rid of Jack, but they hoped it would be someone else.

Losing Sister Psyche just made it seem even more so, when they could of gotten rid of so many. And it's not like superteams havent had multiple psychics on a team before, so the idea of needing to get rid of Sister Psyche so they could put Penny on the team is silly.

Not to mention, even with these deaths, I haven't seen anything that puts my character as the top hero of the city, and I don't even want that.

If the game says your the top hero, then what are all the other characters you've teamed with and done all the content with.

Personally, I just want to see the game treat you like an A lister, more so if you actually show it, instead of the Superman icon status.

I'd give you my black wold if I could. *sigh* 39-44 packs bought (24 with points, the rest with Paragon Reward Points, I really was hoping for a catalyst instead of that Black Wolf. :/)

I'd help friends and family first, then I'd go back to the other thread about new powers versus new animations and wonder just how much I'd have to invest in PS to give MA and StJ a whole list of alternate animations.
  14. I just keep hoping they'll share the animations between MA and STJ. If I recall, StJ is pretty even for DPS between Brutes, Tankers, and Scrappers, with StJ beating out MA for Stalkers.

Brutes and Scrappers can then choose either set for whatever reason. Tankers can decide between StJ's bit more AOE versus MA's additional defense.

Stalkers...well...I guess they can choose for different effects.

But I'd love to replace CU with EC's animation, put in Storm Kick's animation instead of Heavy Blow or Initial Strike.

Have Spinning Strike's animation as the AOE set. It'd be the hand to hand fighter I want to make.

I think they could do this for StJ and MA with other sets animations too, but they'd just lack the power effects (Dark Melee's negative energy, or EM's pom poms). Cause I personally love Barrage's animation

And for a number of years this was the same stance the dev team took.. Super Heroes don't get PAID to do their job. And then GR hit and while rumor here on the forums was if you switched from being a villain to a hero all your Infamy was lost and you started over earning Influence. Then the issue went LIVE and what actually occurred.. As soon as you stepped from one side to the other your INF magically transferred into the appropriate CURRENCY for your location. Delude yourself how ever you like but INF is CASH and even the devs now refer to it as such. I can buy an enhancement with my influence in Founders Falls, short cut through the RWZ, and purchase inspirations in Grandville. I'm sorry but even before GR the old thinking never made sense... I go to the tailor shop and order a new costume at say 30 level. When its ready I PAY for it with influence? Now run to the mall and grab a pair of jeans and a shirt and tell the clerk you don't have any cash but feel you deserve these becasue everyone in your neighborhood thinks you a great guy/girl. Then wait for security to come and throw you out. LOL
Well to be fair, the reason you kept all that influence/infamy/information/currency was because the players whined to no end that they shouldn't lose it.

So only then did you get PAID with CASH to do the things you do. So I'd say that arguement falls flat to say that's what it always was.
  16. I agree with the idea of giving back their original enhancement values!

that alone would allow me to decide, "slot up this power for set bonuses or slot it up with the idea of saving slots?"

I've stated that before. Up the numbers on Tough/Weave and make them attractive to the squishies, and lower them for the melee ATs. They don't have to be made totally useless, but I think the fighting pool should be made to toughen up the squishies, and more of a "is it worth it...will have to think on this" for the melee ATs.

A few people in this thread seem really bent out of shape about the lack of respect for these characters. I say that the game never had any respect for them in the first place; all they ever were were slightly-glorified story arc dispensers. You can point to the comic books as a source of actual characterization but since the last of those was printed several years ago I'm not impressed.

Why does anyone feel attached to them in the first place?
Same reason they haven't killed BABS off? A character that could easily be taken out of game with no worries, who has no real story behind him, and hasnt any real in game thing going for him.

People like and then add to the characters they find interresting in some way. Thing is, they didn't seem to do the killing of characters for any real reason but one...

Players have been grousing about being second class characters in the stories. FedEx missions, glorified lackeys, lacking initiative, etc.... And so, we've seen a concerted effort by the content writers to put players front and center and be more proactive and more consequential.

But how can we do that when we're in the shadows of near-immortals who are of a magnitude more powerful than our characters? Oh, sure, we mop up the EB versions of Statesman, Psyche, and Lord Recluse. But the story makes them the most powerful beings on the planet. Statesman can also survive a nuke. A real nuke. Not the declawed version of a Warburg missile. Psyche, story-wise, was the most powerful psychic on the earth. And they're all several generations old, and not likely to die anytime soon of old age.

The only way our character can shine story-wise when there is a more powerful generation that just won't die or age out... is to murder them.

The content writers have already diminished the Freedom Phalanx in many ways by setting them up for failure. Positron is no new Mary Sue when villains steal the Fire of Prometheus from him; he was inconsequential in saving Psyche or Statesman; and he gets his entire team snared in Diabolique's trap, requiring us to save them all.

And, yes, this also means Recluse and Lady Grey have narrative bulls-eyes on their backs.
Of course, they're still going to be second class citizens. My big time hero still seems to need to find teammates to take down the big bad villain. Needs help in taking down generic soldiers, and gets beat up by ordinary citizens.
  21. Company spite!

It seemed pretty obvious from the beginning, States was going to be offed because he was Jack's big character. Was hoping it wouldn't be the case, but it was.

Sister Psyche though? She was a fan favorite. Then they killed her off.

Both just seem tied to being Jack's creations, so let's get rid of them. Which seeing as they were properties of CoH, I dont know why it even matters that they were Jack's creations. :/

If they were going to kill off those two, I reall wish they killed off BABs too. At least it wouldn't have felt all "Kill Jack's!"

And the reason I say BABS too is because everyone says "Oh those two characters didnt have any detail to them anyways" well neither does BABS and he's a fan favorite.

    KILL BACK ALLEY BRAWLER! \o/

Comparison, against the broader industry: I was over at a friend's house the other night, a hardcore console games addict. He was showing off some newish game, I didn't catch the name, where the game goes the same way each time you play it through, but it's worth playing four times because each time through, you, the player, can understand more of the other side's language. By the end of the 4th run-through, you find out that you're not one of the last remaining human beings, you're a malfunctioning mechanical construct, and that over the course of the game you've killed off the whole human race, including several fights where you butchered whole schools full of children that you mistook for hostile ghosts. That's the direction the industry is going, right now.

But there are still times that City of Heroes gets it right. I've long been fond of Marshall Brass's original arcs. All four Faultline arcs rock. Dean MacArthur, for all of his horrible chummy sexism towards female player characters, hits the balance quite nicely, as other people have said. Operative Vargas is broad parody done right, in my opinion. Television is awesome; it's a deadly serious Nemesis plot, and your contact can't help the fact that the only way it has to communicate with you, hypnotically, is by invoking TV show cliches in sidesplittingly funny ways.

The one I'm raving about lately is Bane Spider Ruben, the new level 15-20 contact in Cap au Diable. I'm having a hard time figuring out everything that I like about this one, but among the things I've noticed is that there are lovely grace notes where it's obvious that both your character and he are aware of the absurdity of the situation we have to work with; even more than Marshall Brass's arcs, even more than Arbiter Daos' bits during the Vernor von Grun arc, I feel like it really nails what it's like for villain minions to find themselves in government.

But there's a TV Tropes page that I don't think I can reference by name here without bowdlerizing it, ____sack World? A story setting or game world where everybody is reprehensible in some way or the other, where even the so-called "good guys" are bigoted or clueless or vicious or callous in some way? City of Heroes feels like that, not all the time, but way too often lately.
I wish to find out the name of that game, but the one mentioned does not seem to be it. :/
