O.O It may have just made it easier to double stack Build Up on a KM Stalker!

Quote:I played the set purely for the awesomeness of the pink pom poms, but the changes still made me go ugggh. :/I'm with others...the big change I would recommend is reverting ET back to what it was.
It is a new game now, and I don't think the old ET would be unbalanced anymore. I think it was unbalanced in the old game, but they overnerfed it and made it useless.
A quick-animating amazing-damage ET would really bring the set back to what it was originally designed to be.
As far as making TF a TS-clone, whatever. I think TS is lame...
I know I originally played EM because of the amazingly fast ET. The slow but still self-damaging ET doesn't cut it. I deleted my EM chars, so this doesn't even benefit me. -

Quote:I thought CyberForce did a good mix of it, but it was a storyline versus a big mix. Much like i23 is likely a storyline and not the whole.I dislike magic being overused (note the word: overused) in a superhero setting because it requires me to suspend my disbelief a further dimension. Firstly, I have to do so to accept that these superpowers exist, secondly I have to do this to accept that magic also exists. The more I have to suspend my disbelief, the less real the story seems.
Magic can be good in bit parts. A secondary character here, a villain group there, potentially even certain one-shot zones. But if it becomes involved too heavily in the central narrative and the overall aesthetic...then the superhero dynamic is lost. The true appeal of superheroes is the idea of men and women doing exceptional things in a world very much like our own. There will obviously be exceptions to this, this thread is full of many such examples, but note the word I used to describe them; EXCEPTIONS.
Do you understand my position now? You don't have to agree with it. I'm merely asking if you understand it. Why give me the ******* lovechild of Dark Astoria and First Ward when you could give me a moon zone, a desert, the arctic, pseudo-Latveria, Atlantis, etc, etc? -
Best thing you can do is to try to convince people to play redside.
Getting more zones won't do it, at least not full time, but it might get a small rush of people doing the content for awhile, before going back blueside.
Changing the requirements for the accolades wont help get others over redside, but it might make them a bit easier for you to obtain.
Selling the powers on the market...really not for that...needs to be something for players to actually work for, regardless of time vs convience. -
I find this interresting.
The fact that it must be purchased in the Paragon Market doesn't bother me, as it'll likely be a one shot deal.
However what sort of socery. If it's Magical Blasts in the vein of Rune Blast, I can see people picking it up, if it's a staff based set, I can imagine many who say they want it, skipping it in the end (people hate redraw and they want their builds as maxed as possible...general statement, so no need to go "No I don't")
And what do these abilities do? My guess so far (not in any order)...
ST Blast
ST Immobilize
Hold
Heal Other
PBAOE Heal
Just my guess on this. -
Quote:While I don't have a problem with the recent magic (before this it was giant robots wasn't it?You know, one thing i find an interesting bit of interpretation. the idea of dark astoria and the various gods involved to be magical. by strict definition, they would be natural, they may have crazy powers, but nothing inconsistent with what their usually defined powers are. so i'd even take da off the list of strictly magical, its just BIG natural.
and as others have said, praetoria was almost entirely tech and mad science, the game does both, most likely battallion will be ultratech invading aliens (much like the rikti, who are almost entirely non magical, and were a previous focal point)
frankly I'm glad this game works both themes in and does not feel strangled into an excessively narrow definition of the genre, such narrow minded interpretations of the genre would make the game significantly worse.) swing...I don't know if I'd say it's Natural in DA. The god for sure would be, but BP are magic.
-
Science, since I tend to reroll myname sake often. Though mutant would work just as well. Clone created in a womb with a view, who's x-factor gene kick started on it's own. So, it really comes down to choice, and why Id like Dual Origin.
Mutant comes in close second as I am a fan of the X-Men
Natural gets the least use, as I don't make many alien/demon types, and the idea of a natural human who can fly and shoot lasers or toss fireballs just doesn't seem natural to me.
Though I have created a few who human characters that Natural fits, I just never stuck with them.
I like the superpowers -
Quote:Not a moot point. I base this on people reactions. It's not a 'pause'. You can fix the chain with out a pause, you just need to know how to do it.
Additionally, your 'Incarnate powers shouldn't matter!' uh... doesn't really apply. Considering the bonuses from incarnate powers do not vary by any significant degree between power sets... eh, not arguing this. Moot point, BrandX.
"OMG! 340 DPS IS OP!"
vs
"Wow. 230 DPS is nice."
It's a matter of perception, in which people take the Incarnate Level DPS and go, OP for all the old content, which of course it, and the devs fully admitted they would be. -
Quote:Or instead use the heroes we have more :OI think it's over due. We haven't seen new hero blood in ages. Penny is the first "real" hero we have seen in a looooooooooong time. And she is legitimately a hero now. What we need is some more new heros we can really identify with to fill in the holes and bolster a new life for CoH.
I vote for a Rikti hero! Not some halfblood like H1. -
That was one thing I wondered about when it came to the info release. At one point they said one free powerset an issue. Would that still be the case? And if so, it might be later in the beta testing till we find out.

Quote:Well, I am curious to how StJ performs when played intelligently. Pausing to wait for AS and CU to synch back up when you miss. That has me curious how it will play out on the DPS.I think we can all agree on one thing, at the very least:
StJ probably needs a very close eye on it. Because as long as you play it intelligently and don't Scrapperlock it, it has absurd levels of potential now.
Though, I'm less likely to care about the use of incarnate powers in use, where others are all "OMG SEE THIS WITH INCARNATES"
Note, this doesn't mean no IO use, but Incarnate level is silly to worry about as Incarnate level puts non incarnate content to shame, as was it's intention. -

Quote:I wasn't.If you're going for raw-power suggestions here, which it looks like you are...
Defender: Fire Blast is pretty nerfed on Defenders. Sonic Attacks (for the -20% res per hit) and Ice Blast (for the full-blaster-power Ice storm and Blizzard) both make better use of the Archetype's mechanics.
Scrapper: FA/SD and DM/SD are both MOAR DAMAGE-ER than StJ/SD, if I recall correctly.
Corruptor: Fire/Dark or Fire/Cold are going to get better debuffs out of the set than Time because their key debuffs are psuedopets that use Defender numbers.
Dominator: Hope whoever you're suggesting this to likes to solo. Mind is heavily eclipsed in power for teams because of it's reliance on Sleep.
Mastermind: You really have a hardon for Time, huh? Remember that pets are immune to +recharge before you suggest this one for a Mastermind, and the Thugs don't need Farsight if built well.
Stalkers: StJ has good AoE and blows ELM out of the water for single target, especially on a Stalker.
I was going for a good mix. Something I'd suggest to someone new.
Time Manip I just find (in my own personal play experience) to be easy to use, fun, covers the bases well enough, and does a lot for personal survival. Turning into a Rikti Monkey for a minute, and still being softcapped with Rikti whiffing away is just awesomely fun
Sonic lacks the AOE. It's not about mechanics when I made my picks.
As for StJ and Stalkers, I still think it's to early to say. You make mention of StJ blowing it out of the water on ST, but reading the threads StJ I don't think it's been proven to be all that yet (if you're talking about from an Incarnate Status PoV). Going by theoretical times? StJ had a theoretical time that looked to be based on missing and said to be 450. While ELM was mentioned to look like it can hit 400. I wouldn't call that blowing it out of the water. And for chains that would need that much +RCH, that's alot of uses of LR.
But no, what I was suggesting was a good mix of what I think someone new would find fun.
Fire Blast is fun to see all the AOEs and Orange Numbers.
Shield on Scrappers, gives a nice taunt aura, more damage, and StJ is just awesome visually.
ELM for Stalkers? LR is just plain fun to use!
Time Manip I already mentioned. It also fits so many concepts it's silly. Want a Telekinetic? Time Manip can easily pass for that! -
Quote:Yes, I agree.
They should.
Glad to see you coming around to this side of the argument.Sadly for you. I don't. The changes made aren't all that encompassing to give a free respec to every character. Adding in new IOs, for that build you thought was good already, that's not a reason for free respecs.
Mind you, if they gave them, I wouldn't be all that upset.
Though I have to ask, when Freedom came around, all old characters got vet reward respecs again (at least I know I did on my DB/WP who had used them all before)...so why are your old characters without respecs? -
I agree! give her the upgraded look!
By the way, this doesn't mean I care for the look, but I do think it's better than the other. -
Quote:I think the other reason they don't, besides animation time, is it might make MA less popular, which it's animations is why a lot of people take it. If they can get those animations else where, they may say "Well this set is better and gts the awesome animations"I say it's about time the devs start listening to your requests.
Thunder kick with an actual thunder attached... yes please!
But that can just be a sign that MA needs to have game mechanics that make it more appealing to everyone. -
You mean from Hide? It only has like a 50% chance to crit from hide. Or do you mean, not critting at all?
-
Hmmm...this is tougher on some than on others. Are we going with what we think players want, or the idea of "This is what a typical comic book character would have as this AT" or the go to pairing for the AT, so many ways to do this!
Blaster: Energy/Energy (Cyclops/Iron Man)
Controller: Mind/Force Field (Jean Grey)
Defender: Storm Summoning/Electrical Blast (Storm)
Scrapper: Claws/Regen (Wolverine)
Tanker: INV/SS (Superman)
Brute: SS/WP (Hulk - it's just nonstop SMASH, there is no pause to heal, it's toggle and go!)
Corruptor: Dark Blast/Dark Miasma (Dark powers are typical corruption style powers)
Dominator: Mind/Psi (Emma Frost)
Mastermind: Robotics/Traps (The evil tech genius)
Stalker: Ninja Blade/Ninjitsu (The straight up classic Ninja combo)
Interresting, I find it's the Corr, Defender, Troller that become the hardest to define when trying to base it off comics, because of how the powers work. Fire Manipulating heroes in comics, don't generally cover their allies in fire to protect them. Nor to Cold based super powers. And Empathy, for at one time being really popular in CoH (I don't think it is as much anymore) I never found to be that comic bookish. Empathy has always seemed (to me) straight up MMO. In Superhero comics, there just aren't a lot of characters that can heal like that (it takes away from the drama if you have that character who just swoops in and goes "You're HEALED!"
Now, if I was going to base it on CoH and what I think I'd suggest to someone new...
Blaster: Fire/Mental (DAMAGE and AOE)
Controller: Illusion/Rad (RAWR!)
Defender: Time Manip/Fire Blast (AOE and Survival)
Scrapper: StJ/Shield (MORE DAMAGE and good survival)
Tanker: INV/SS (The classic!)
Brute: SS/FA (SMASH AND BURN)
Corruptor: Fire Blast/Time (See Defender)
Dominator: Mind/Fire (LOCK EM DOWN AND BURN EM!)
Mastermind: Thugs/Time (You want an army? How about a Gang War!)
Stalker: ELM/NIN (AOE is huge in CoH! ELM is best on Stalkers! Combine that with classic Ninjitsu!) -
Quote:Sounds like it would. Alot of the top DPS chains, when calculating DPS don't tend to take into account missing. The build isn't at fault here, it's a root flaw in all of StJ's attack chains. When you use the chain, you'll run into that wall the second you miss an AS prior to CU. When that happens, you have to short-change your next AS in order to fix your attack chain and make CU crit again. Ricodah didn't do any of that in his video, which hurt his DPS tremendously.
Will that make 450 DPS unreachable? I don't know. Maybe. As I admit numerous times, I'm not a great mathematician like some others(Werner, Arcanaville). Maybe the build can do more than that, maybe it can do less, the best you could do is simply run your usual calculations on the build and compare it with other build calculations of yours.
As a side-note, in my opinion fixing your attack chain mid-way should be rewarded with significantly higher DPS than everything else, as all other stalker primaries do not share this issue which requires a lot more attention from the user.
But if they're (the player) capped on chances to hit (5% chance to miss then) 450 would only lose 22.5 DPS normally, but like you said, you have to wait to get the chain back on track, which would lower it's DPS, and repeat everytime you had to put the chain back on track.
So the 450 is sounding top end in a perfect, never miss world.
Of course, using clickie powers/inspirations will hurt the DPS as well (not as much as waiting to fix the chain of attacks) but if you don't need them, not much of a factor. -
Quote:It's like no one watched Surrogates!Exactly.
Obviously given the technology we have today in 2012 it's easier to create purpose-built robotic tanks or airplanes. But clearly those kinds of things have always been considered baby steps towards the ultimate goal of having humanoid robots that could do all sorts of generalized tasks like piloting -any- kind of tank or airplane the same way a human can.
Besides once we manage to download our brains into machines it might be nice to be downloaded into a tank or airplane on occasion but eventually we'll probably want to spend time in robotic humanoid-shaped machines as well. This core research needs to happen regardless. -
Quote:For the EM comment..I've actually reuested that many times! Lots of attacks in elemental sets, I think could use MA style attacks, but come equipped with MA style animations!Pretty much this. 100% in favor of new animations and better power customization over new niche sets.
Examples of things that would completely revamp a set for me:
- Beam Rifle (Blaster primary) - Eyebeam animations instead of a rifle
- Energy Manipulation (Blaster secondary) - Martial Arts animations instead of pompoms
- Thugs (Mastermind primary) - Professionals in black suits or trenchcoats instead of punks
- Illusion Control (Controller primary) - Head animation for Spectral Wounds, Phantom army creates copies of the character, Phantom creates copies of the character
- Forcefields (Defender primary) - Minimal FX option for the bubbles
- Stone Armor (Tanker primary) - Thin metal plating instead of stone slabs
- Claws and Spines (Scrapper primaries) - Dual Weapons animations, energy or psychic claws/spines (appearance only)
- Blood Widow / Night Widow - Dual Weapons animations, energy or psychic claws (appearance only)
- Arachnos Hunter - Dual Pistols instead of combat rifle
- Kheldians - Minimal FX option for Nova and Dwarf (retain your costume even if shapeshifted)
Glowie foot that delivers an EC or a Glowie Fist that delivers a CK.
Can do the same with ELM, Storm Kick style animation but it delivers the electrical shock with it. -

Quote:Cottage Rule is one reason/ The reason it was taken out before was because it was "Remove the PBAOE" as the rule when Stalkers were created.Personal attack? I just asked if any Stalkers smacked you in PvP recently, seeing as how you're not happy with CU's damage. All you had to say was no, jeez.
Okay, JUST realizing Stalkers lost Dragon's Tail, I can see your point. I always thought the sets oriented for ST damage should have at least one AoE, and those for AoE should mostly have PBAoEs and cone/ranged attacks.
Honestly, why have MA all for ST? I don't know anyone who's happy with a set of ST target attacks and not one AoE (I hate cone attacks). Why not just bring back Dragon's Tail? Cobra Strike doesn't seem all that impressive, and I don't think anyone wanted a set focused only on ST, they just wanted to utilize our most powerful attack more frequently.
And your 'Your chain won't work because the proc takes 10 seconds to activate', what makes you think most players actually keep focusing on using the same damn chain when they play? I just start off that and then use whatever the situation calls for. You have to realize this is a game, numbers or none, and not everyone really cares about utilizing the proper chain in order to inflict maximum DPS.
Thanks for the new term, I'll definitely keep that in mind next time I'm on the forums, and....yeah. Dragon's Tail in, Cobra Strike out, and then reduce CU's damage a bit if it can balance out. Everyone's happy then?
Personally I thought that was the wrong way to go since the beginning, but admittedly my thought was more along the lines of the PBAOEs having better animations than the cones, witht he better AOE being a distant second.
