If the superhero population wasn't small, the genre wouldn't be as fun

Actually, from everything I've seen of many people...can be terminated, yes, but will be, no.

They'll go with the mindset of "Why pay, when I can have for free?" and thus NCSoft would lose out on the chance for a potential costumer.

It's no different than people who pirate their music. Did they really lose all that much, with a small amount of pirating (assuming it is a small amount)? No. Did they still lose out on making money, when someone took it for free? Yes.

    Actually, this is true!

At least in the typical sense of superhero heroes, inwhich they tend to work outside the law (breaking and entering, vigilantism...ect), because they don't think the laws are working.

Even if it means they're helping people.

What history are they referring to? As far as I can tell, the only substantiated instance of them actually lying about something was with the whole Garriot thing. Granted, it was a pretty impressive falsehood, and the fact that they thought they could get away with it is amazing. However, it is still a single data point. One event does not really seem to justify saying that "they have a history of lying".

I admit that the only closures by NCSoft that I have been involved with were AutoAssault, Tabula Rasa, and Dungeon Runners. None of the three were shut down with anything looking like malice to me, nor do I recall any "lying" on the part of NCSoft. AutoAssault did terribly. Tabula Rasa, although I personally enjoyed the game (after they fixed a bunch of stuff after beta) did not do well either. Dungeon Runners seemed like more of an experiment in the first place, rather than a long term game. Again, I enjoyed it a lot, but still.

I completely agree that what NCSoft did with CoH was pretty crappy. Their actions since the shutdown have been equally crappy. It just bothers me to see how easily people have used a single incident prior to this, as PROOF of NCSoft not dealing in good faith during this process. Yes, it sets a precedent, but does not indicate a pattern. If there are other public examples of outright falsehood by NCSoft, fine. I just haven't seen anyone in here mention any incident other than the Garriot thing, even when they specifically state that NCSoft can't be trusted because of their history of lying.

Just a little observation from someone who admits to not having completely researched everything going on.
People are depressed/upset. It's really that simple.

Reading the OP however, I can't help but wonder, if NCSoft couldn't just take the exsisting IP and make a CoH2.

Seeing the amount of detail one can get in Aion and Blade & Soul, I know I wouldn't mind an update to CoH to match those.

I really don't think it's the genre that kept CoH from being popular in Asia. It was the game itself. It's play and very likely it's art style.

While I don't recall the names, I know after CoH came out, while I loved (and still do!) it's art style, I saw Korean MMOs and was amazed at their looks. Never tried them out, because I kept hearing such things as "Grindfest" to describe them.

Though, having checked out many other forums now, I have come to see "grindfest" to mean "doesn't level as fast as I want" which is a no win for any game company as those same people then complain about "I hit max level and now I'm bored"

And this is a perfect opportunity to update CoH! They have the IP, they can make a better MMO. And it may just get those who ******* and moaned about the thought of an update to CoH when they said "No updating CoH if it means I can't transfere over my character and be max level already"

If that player doesn't return, it'd be very likely they'd be replaced by more players anyways, because I really don't think it's the superhero genre that was holding CoH back.
  15. It's not the Thrawn trilogy, so I'm sad already.

I wouldn't mind them continueing the adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han, and using new actors for the roles, then having Mark, Carrie, and Harrison in as cameos or as more than a cameo but new role.

Isn't that sort of like the episode of Castle, where he meets the model, only to realize it was his daughters babysitter

As to no warning that is just sily. There was an insane amount of warning. It was their for you to see. All anyone had to do was look at NCsoft's financials or any of the posts where people were shouting out "WE ARE IN TROUBLE". Instead people on the forums chose to look at numbers that showed a game that couldn't sustain any growth and somehow say how wonderful it was doing.

If you wanted to save the game you needed to hold torch vigils when Castle was driving people away from the game, when Posi was ranting at people for not having a moral compass. You could have joined with me in trying to get incarnate content made into something that actually fit well into the game instead of a game destroying grind.

I mean really didn't the idea of being forced and bribed to do incarnate content set off a lightbulb that maybe having content that was so awful that you had to reward people with game breaking tools was a bad idea ?
Keeping servers up and running costs money. If it doesn't have the player base to make a profit. Then no, I don't see a game lasting indeffinently. Even if there is a group who still want to play it.

To my knowledge, the game was making money. To me, not making money would be the warning. I could obviously be mistaken in that the game wasnt making money. But to my knowledge, it wasn't that it wasn't making money, it's that it wasn't making enough money.

I wasn't for the Incarnate storyline. I wasn't even really for MA. I wasn't for the change of the PvP system.

I didn't feel bribed to play Incarnate content, I felt it was more the games way of going beyond level 50, which people wanted, and if you go up in levels, lower level content gets easier.

And I disagreed on things all the time. I was vocal on the things I disagreed with.

I also recall having a bigger group usually against me or told "it's not going to change, we're just testing it for bugs now"

    Agreed.

Still don't like the game shutting down though :/

Really, I knew at some point it would (Anyone who didn't think it would shut down at some point, was just being stupid)...but still...it came out of the blue! No warning. I thought I'd see less and less updates, a shrinking population...instead it was "BOOM! You're game is over!"

Knowing it would happen one day and being ready for it, obviously two different things.

It's why we can fight enemies like Circle of Thorns or Banished Pantheon, then turn around and fight The Council or Crey. It's why an Amazonian, a Kryptonian, a Martian, and a few humans can all fight together.

It will be hard to break the genre of Blade and Soul since the genre is much more specific. For example: even if we wanted to create a character like Positron in Blade and Soul, I doubt there will be the costuming/power options to do so.

I agree with you on how to view the character creation sliders. More customization is always good, and as this is the gaming industry there will always be those players who will make the most grotesquely sexual character possible.

All of that having been said, it is what Blade and Soul offers outside their creator (sort of NSFW) that makes it look like there is an obviously taunted sex appeal. City of Heroes females definitely have a hip sway in their walk, and I won't argue the degree of accuracy that sway holds to the average woman walking in heals (most of the female shoes in CoH have an elevated heal). However, I can honestly say without bias that I have seen real women walk in heals with movements resembling that of the CoH female Walk, while I have never seen any woman move through the world like the woman in that Blade and Soul video. The closest approximation I can think of would be a female model on a fashion runway, which typically is meant to exude some sort of physical attractiveness.
That's a fan made video on a walk toggle.

Walk, a feature you see used by RPers and people trying to find the sex appeal, and ignored by most others, as they're playing the game and running is the faster option.

However, I think people do forget...

    Things seen in CoH:

    Dominatrix with Gimp Minions!

Carnival of Shadows is all about BDSM, drugs, sex trade.

Not to mention the players who created the sex slave/traded heroes/villains in CoH (possibly more popular on Virtue, but I know I saw it on Victory before the server transfers).

Which btw I'm not saying is bad. My point is basically, I see the knocking of a game based on sex appeal, when I saw CoH's player base go that direction most of the time. Even those who spout off against it would seem to have their characters that fit the criteria.

Now, what I would like is for NCSoft to make CoH2 and use the character customization and detail I see in B&S! I like the art (I liked the art in CoH) and I like the options!

My only question is, can we have that level of detail and not be limited in costum options? B&S has lots of costumes, but it's not mix and match like CoH.
