For those who remember the not-too-far-in-the-past Justice League animated series, You may or may not remember that after two seasons they changed formats to Justice League Unlimited. While Justice League focused on the 'core' group, the JLU focused on individuals or groups coming together to solve whatever case was up. Mix and match, get to know the whole DC universe and it's miriad characters. I liked both styles, but there's a key here that really hit a chord with me.

I want us, the players, to have the chance to become the "Unlimited" to the Freedom Phalanx. Make us the newest members alongside Penny. Give us the opportunity to take the signature characters as mentors like villains can in Arachnos. Give us story arcs that make us care about each of them and why they believe the way they do, to earn their trust so they may teach us their secrets (like the villain patrons do). Come up with story arcs both hero and villain side to expand upon that relationship/understanding of lore that makes us give a pancake about any of them and why they're in 'our' (the player's) world.

The trick here is to do it without putting words directly in our character's mouths, but by drawing us lines that give us understanding (whether we agree or not) into the heroes passion and/or reasoning for doing what they do in a way that anyone can respect (again, whether we agree or not). Not as easy as villains, but just as possible.

Many have made a lot of 'broad brush' strokes for the various hero's motivations/faults during the SSA, but what else do we have to base on them? Don't tell me comics and novels (though I've read them all myself). Most players, especially new ones, won't get it, and don't know there's story outside of this game.

I see a lot of empathy for the villain Patrons in a lot of these replys (which is funny, since apparently nobody likes to play villain side) compared to the disdain we have for the signature heroes. This, in my opinion, is one of the main reasons for this. We never get to see their story, or ambitions, played out in a way we can get 'in-game'.

I have characters that would be honored to join the Phalanx and finally get to understand the 'premiere' heroes of Paragon. Don't you? Let's join Penny in getting to know the Phalanx and be a part of the team! (disclaimer: This, like the villain patrons, would presume this would be pre-incarnate content.)

That's what I really would like to see.
good idea! Let us take patrons as heroes to really prove we're the number one hero!

Which, remember, Statesman was killed by this point. Sooo...by this point we're suppossed to be THE HERO already.

So we're going to take THE HERO OF HERO characters (our own heroes) and then say "Oh hey, look, you need to grab a patron, because really, you're still so lowly"

Well, as long as they dont offer up any epic power pool with it, sure! Do it!

  4. So we're all agreed. What really needs improving is Dual Pistols! MORE DAMAGE, little tweaking of animations! \o/

Eh, I chalk that up to personal likes.

I don't care for maxing out the shoulder sliders, but I've seen quite a few who do. Im sure we've all seen what would likely be considered great costumes if we didnt think they ruined it with the sliders.

I actually thought about putting Ms Liberty in as Citadel's replacement (never cared for Citadel myself)...but went with the idea of them fleshing out the Vidicators while they were at it and make them as awesome as they should be.

Could of remade her into a combo of StJ/MA/SS & INV Tanker

    Twlight's Grasp

    I have!

    It also hit quite regularly!

Mind you I had over 60% +ACC in set bonuses, a Kismet and Tactics.

But I have gone with TG slotted with just 5 pieces of Doctored Wounds set and no ACC slotted at all.

the characters the main villains ridicule becasue as master healers they cant heal themselves or they can create huge blasts of energy that do absolutely nothing but singe the enemy....or better still the ones who if things go wrong can only watch helplessly as their team dies.

I mean i dont want to sound too mean or critical....but personaly out of all the defenders and corruptors i have played over the years I never felt like i was really making a big difference on my teams....i mean i could see the effect i had when i play a controller or blaster or tank....but just never felt it with corruptors or defenders.

I mean sure when i buff botted on one character there was one mission...but out of 100's of missions...i dont think i could ever really defend myself...nor actualy stop a team wipe...i could with other characters...but not with a defender or corruptor....

Its like the sniper shots doing at the top 150 damage when i play a blaster i do 500...i heal someone for 300 damage they use their own heal power for 500.
I put shields on a group start getting shot at and realize i dont have any personal defense.

Also on every corruptor and defender i tend to die alot more then any other archtype....

And from everyone i talked to....that seams to be normal....and that is just Frustrating and wrong.

So maybe i am just biased, but i think the numbers speak for themselves on this.
I thought my Dark Miasma and Time Manip Defenders/Corrs defended themselves quite well (except for a mez that might get through if my character wasnt hovering).

The Dark Miasma felt like it had more of an impact for the team than the Time Manip in terms of damage though, as you can notice a difference when you hit the hard targets with the better -regen.

Not sure if they did it, but I think Scrappers would have the draw of higher +DMG bonus from Form of Body, over Stalkers/Brutes.

That said, I believe Stalkers came out on top with damage, due to FoB being free and having Build Up with it. Not to mention Assassin Strike.

What I'm curious about is if Presice Strike is the best attack to go with, or is Mercurial Blow, which allows the slotting of a -Resist Proc.

Even if the -Resist Proc doesn't make it better, I would think for Tankers who could slot the -Resist Proc and get use out of Bruising, would be better off with MB over PS.

I'm still interested in animation smoothing so the set feels a bit less...chunky. In leveling my ice/thorn dom, once I built for high recharge and the ice epic, my /thorns use smoothed out to mostly lunge, ripper, and fling thorns. I tend to sigh when I'm locked into the impale animation, lol.
At 200+ DPS, I'm not so sure it's sustained DPS needs help. But part of sustained DPS is figuring out how to sustain it.

The reasons I like the two ideas is, this allows ripper to be a used from hide and getting at least one crit. I also just never cared for the chance of not getting any ticks of damage off.

Also, it just gives it a nice edge with the toxic damage.

Yes. You're right. Well, you're wrong actually. Tt depends on the character in this instance. I'd say Spidey could dodge it for sure.

However, what you seem to not realize, is this was a fight...Buffy vs Widow. Snipe at range when Buffy is shopping for that cute little sun dress to really turn Angel and Spike on, is not a fight.

Now THAT was a stupid look. And the bad thing was, 2/3 of the female characters had it.

<_< My main used to go around with minimum physique/hip slider >_> In my defense she's suppossed to look teenish. Though, I've had it to the half way mark, to it's current about a 1/4 away from minimum setting.

I also miss the days where my 5ft tall character actually felt short when I played with any PuG, now, 5ft tall comes up looking tall to a lot of other characters

But I don't recall seeing that look being popular. What server?

Truthfully, banded gloves, large boots, belly shrts, if it wasn't for the disco bottoms (I only use them when combined with a skirt, as I hate the short shorts look of that costume piece), it sounds like something I'd make!

But then, I've been making that look since I started playing back at the start of i3 ^_^ I love the large boots and banded gloves look!

I don't dislike Dual Pistols because it uses Swap Ammo and not Build Up. I dislike it because its overall DPA is horrid and I keep getting killed winding up over-long animations that an AT of such fragility doesn't benefit that much from. I disliked Stalkers before the change because they were forced to play smarter and harder and still only ever match Scrapper and Brute performance, who could achieve the same by falling asleep at the keyboard.

What the goal of game balancing should be is to let every player reach the same level of progression and performance with roughly the same level of skill and involvement. Exactly what the player has to do to achieve this isn't relevant, nor is the specific difficulty of achieving it, what matters is that all ATs and all powersets strike if not exactly that kind of balance, then at least something close to it.

At the end of the day, I will not play an AT or a powerset that constantly makes me feel like I'm working twice as hard to do half as good as most of my other characters. I don't care if its playstyle is an outlier, unique or interesting. If the character can't perform up to par, then there's something wrong with that character. And if I can't fix what's wrong with the build, then something's wrong with how that character is balanced, and something needs to be fixed. It's really just that simple.

I don't believe in "hard mode" characters. Hard mode is easily achievable by increasing your difficulty, and you're even rewarded more for it. If a character is "harder" to play than others at the same difficulty, all that means is that character is levelling up more slowly. That's precisely what got Blasters to Defiance 2.0 - Blasters were dying more, playing less and levelling slower than all other characters by a significant margin. They were clearly and provably underperforming, so they were improved. Not enough in my book, but apparently enough for people to play them again.

Variety and diversity can still exist in a system where most characters using most builds do roughly as well as each other. They don't need to accomplish this in the same way using the same tactics, just so long as they level about equally as fast in the hands of the same player. It's not about preference, uniqueness or technique. It's about performance. Nail that and you can proceed to be as unique about how you do it as you want.
Now see, I love DP's animations, I just hate it's really terrible DPS!

    Proof devs can't win!
  14. I don't see the hate on Numina. Boring? She's just as exciting as War Witch. War Witch got a story in one of the worst CoH comic storylines.

Mirror Spirit, all she has going for her is a look people want. There has been nothing more on her, so why people say they want her in the team then say "this other person is boring" is quite baffling.

Leader: Positron --- Personally I don't care for him in that spot, but I guess he's going to become the Iron Man of the FP?

Second in Command: Numina --- Posi has the tech bases covered, she covers the magic. Needs a costume update. I good one. Really, judging by the comments, that's all it really takes to make a character interresting to a lot of the players.

Resident Psychic: Penny Yin --- Needs a hero name. I'm sure the devs have some awesome name excluded from the players they have in waiting that they can use.

Resident Speedster/Jokester: Synapse --- Needs a costume update!

Secondary Magic User: War Witch --- Might as well make her a FP member, seeing what they're doing to her in i23, it seems to be the best reason to do it! But change her up! Dark Control/Cold Domination/Fire Blast Troller!

Resident Strong Arm: Citadel --- Every team needs it's brute force super strengther!

    Sooo:

    Blaster: Synapse
    Controller: War Witch
Defender: Positron & Numina (and look they're a couple!)
    Scrapper: Penny Yin
    Tanker: Citadel

All the 5 original Hero ATs are covered. The basics are covered. War Witch can become the darker hero (she's been dead after all), Penny the excited/eager young hero, the super couple, Synapse is the prankster who can be serious when really needed, and Citadel is that boring member people don't really care for, but you know the team needs them to really be complete!

You know, that just might make it an interresting set. Give Force Bolt and Repulsion Bomb a serious damage upgrade. On par with Blaster blasts (or maybe Corrs), but enough damage to actually want to use them as part of one's ST DPS (like Gloom on Brutes/Tankers) as it'd be a serious increase in their DPS and as one AOE damage (in the case of Repulsion Bomb), then give Repulsion Field a little damage to go along with it.

Sure, RF would KB everything, but no worries there!

But I wouldn't say give it -tohit. Something instead I think, is to give Dispersion Bubble (the highest amount) and the Ally bubbles some -Defense Debuff resistance.

You increase the damage output of a Force Fielder by other means than -Regen or -Resist (OH HEY LOOK! I just have better DPS!) and the DDR could make people want them more than the Icers.

BTW: I have nothing against Icers, and still love FFers on the team. But FF could use some love.
  17. It's like none of you have seen the multiple of belly shirt/skirt/baggy socks look that seems to be popular (and I fully admit to useing )

But generally, yes agreed! CoH's costume creator makes all other games terrible for me!

"What the?! I look like everyone else?! I only have a couple of faces to choose from?! No body sliders?!"

I recently started playing another rather new MMO, and I made two characters, and I was all "They look alike"

Should never limit the look of an outfit to the point of going for the best outfit with the best stats, UNLESS there is a way to alter it from the start.

On average Natasha might get a few lucky shots in on Buffy but I would bet a win for Buffy pretty much every time these two matched up.
I think Natasha would get in more than a few lucky shots, but much like you said, Buffy is akin to Wonder Woman.

Natasha just doesn't have the strength behind her punches/kicks to hurt someone who takes punches from other supernaturally strong enemies.

Of course, Natasha can change it up and go the lethal weapon route, which (much like Wonder Woman) Buffy doesn't have any special strength again, but her own training deals with avoiding that herself.

Especially when even in the Buffy universe it was mentioned..."How do vampires always seem to learn martial arts when they're created?"
  20. I'll be sure to get my new Staff Fighting Stalker times, pre and post Incarnate abilities put in, as soon as I get her to 50 Already have all the IOs!
  21. I'd give it to Buffy as well.

Buffy has the supernatural toughness/agility/strength plus the training. Widow has the training and guns for sure. And Buffy can be laid out by a gun. But I'd give it to Buffy.

The stalker changes are excellent, and are what got me looking at the game again; I have a concept for a spines/ice, as the son of my incarnate ice/thorn permadom. I think it'll be a great toon, especially with /ice/levi or /ice/dark backing it up, but here's my wishlist for spines/:

-Make Ripper a 100% crit on the main target, keep 50% crit for the aoe, like thunderstrike. ••Edit•• from hidden status ••/edit••
-Trim animation times for Spine Burst and Impale, perhaps Lunge.
-Discard the legacy Barb Swipe animation.
    -•Just a thought• Make the toxic dot 100% chance rather than 80%/tick?

I'll play it regardless because it's thematic; spines/thorns could use some love, though.
Seeing how well it's ST is, I'm not so sure, but I do like your idea on Ripper and the 100% chance over the 80% chance for tick damage.
