1) Yes, outright changing powers is bad. Unfortunately, it's the only way we *could* proceed that met with the goals we had in mind, the technical limitations presented and the timeframe allowed. I hate "building cottages" but it was the only path in this circumstance.
2) I misspoke re: Weapon Mastery getting Focused Accuracy. It's Targeting Drone. Functionally, it's *identical* to FA, it just has the visuals and display name of TD.
3) Web Grenade is the power that is being replaced in Weapon Mastery.
4) Yes, various PPP's now have access to FA.
I'm certain a complete list of the changes will be up here on the forums within an hour of Beta starting (soon!(tm)) and I'm looking forward to the feedback (positive AND negative) at that time.
[/ QUOTE ]
Please don't make it exactly like FA. Please give it the t-drone lower to hit and end costs values.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually as i was thinking it over more, there still isnt a need for ANOTHER FA power. If your going to replace web grenade, at least put smoke bomb in its place. Something that we can't just get by choosing another epic. Having 2 of the exact same powers in epic sets for the same AT is so full of fail it boggles my mind. I wouldn't mind smoke bomb, and at least its a somewhat valid power that we can't get in another epic. Especially useful for scrappers to avoid extra mob aggro since we have to go in melee anyways.
Additionally, if this can't happen, at least for the love of pete dont give it the exact same values as FA. At least make it different, with the lower to hit and end costs like the actual targeting drone. At least body mastery has conserve power to help offset the end cost of FA. If that end cost was on targetting drone in the weapons set it would be so undeniably unfair and innapropriate.
[/ QUOTE ]
You've seen the other epics outside of scrapper epics right?
Alot of the time, they're basically the same with different graphics and dmg type.
Weapon Mastery will give you a Drone, Body Mastery will not.
As for a way to fix the loss of Web Grenade? Have Shuriken have -Fly/Immobilize on it. -
No Psi Melee.
I kept hoping. But other than that...WOW! Can't wait >.> As usual of course.
Now get it to beta, so someone can tell me if fox tails have finally made it as a costume slot. I'll even pay money for it!
What? I'm gonna get the cyborg pack...I'll get the fox tail pack too! -

I agree with Epic, the TF is just way too laggy. Not to mention that there seems to be way too many baddies for a team that size.
I for one am ready to call for a boycott of ALL task forces until the devs do something about:
-The third mish, with the 'field-o-death' (literally) near the end, that seems to lead to massive death-lag.
-Those damn surgeons, who seem to heal at a rate that defenders can only dream about.
-Make a way we can tell which Nictus is which; not to mention have a way we *CAN* pull one of them or Rommie apart.
I'm rather ticked off that I apparently wasted an entire evening trying to do this, only to end up with one level - I was near to it anyways - and over 30K in debt. Not to mention that at one point on a second try, I nearly suffered a one-shot death in the first mish.
And you say they rushed it to compete with a new game? It'll look real good on their faces if that one tanks on its own anyways.
[/ QUOTE ]
Couple of things.
Maybe wait till your lvl 50? For a lvl 35-50 TF, what was your teams makeup in lvls?
"Field-o-death"? I've done this TF with 3 of my 50's. Yes there's lag, but if you stayed near the team, even with the little bit of lag (usually I just suffer with abit of combat lag...more than straight lag).
Always take out the surgeons first. When I go into a group, no matter what AT I use. That's my target. If you can't supply the dmg (maybe your using a support AT), tell the dmg dealers to go for them first.
Hmmm...I've pulled the Nictus and Rommie apart. It takes just a little bit of teamwork. Nothing more.
And it's easy.
This is with me using PuGs for the TF (tho I have also ran the TF with just a few who PuGs). -
OK, I admit to playing the hero side more. However, one of the things I like about playing Villain side is the lack of so many zones...or rather, the lack of hazard zones.
In CoV I don't have to zone as much (which I have no problems with long loads or anything, just prefere to stay on the same map).
i12 made this even more so with the new Raluu (sp?) weapon skins. Makes me want to roll a BS/ scrapper so much, but I have to wait till lvl 41 to even get it.
Villains, to get the Raluu skins, can sk into it.
Might be fair, sinse Villains to my knowledge can only get the Red Cap daggers twice a year (unless someone saved the mission), but still. -

Please use this thread to discuss the below announcement.
GameZone.com follows up with the second installment of Powerset Proliferation news with a complete recap from Doctor Brainstorm! This includes some of the reasoning behind which sets went to what Archetype, including:
[ QUOTE ]
Oh, I seem to have forgotten about Defenders. They now get access to Cold Domination and Ice Blast allowing them to put Ice and Glacial shields on their allies, as well as throw Ice Bolts and Freeze Rays. I always said it would be a cold day in Paragon City when Defenders would get access to Cold-based powers, and I guess my prediction came true!

[/ QUOTE ]
I was totally ready to be overwhelmingly excited about this, but its just not there. A few of the powersets give me goosebumps but overall its pretty bland. I was seriously hoping the devs would put the best sets into each and every AT.
I give Powerset Proliferation a 5 out of 10. Great idea, could have been executed way better.
[/ QUOTE ]
They said it would be the easy sets.
Electric Armor isn't an easy port hero side because of Conserve Power.
It's available to Tankers and Scrappers in the epics, so can't be in their primary or secondary.
THis is also why Energy Aura and Ninjitsu couldn't be ported.
Sinse they wanted mostly theme for the sets given...werent going to get Electric Melee.
Ice/Ice for brutes isn;t easy cuz it has the fury problem.
I'm sure you can find many other reasons for the others. -

[ QUOTE ]
I have a question: why exactly is it that Energy Melee is considered to be "too powerful," as it currently is, for Scrappers? Sure, Scrappers > Tankers as far as damage output goes, but aren't Brutes and Scrappers on relatively equal footing?
So, Brutes, who deal roughly the same amount of DPS (damage per second) as Scrappers aren't over-powered when using Energy Melee? Or how about Energy Melee Stalkers, with their tremendously powerful Assassin's Strike/Stun combo that I continuously fall victim to in PVP?
I just fail to see why anyone thinks that Scrappers will be overly powerful compared to the other melee ATs with this addition, and would appreciate it highly if someone could enlighten me.
(In the meantime, I'll be curled up under my desk, sure in the knowledge that the devs have a personal grudge against me, said grudge being the sole reason that Energy Melee is not being propagated to Scrappers.)
[/ QUOTE ]
I've actually been curious about this myself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Looking at the numbers, a straight port of energy transfer to Scrappers would do about 80% of the damage of a Stalker's Assassin Strike. And they could do that with being hidden and having much better defense than Stalkers. And with hasten and a Recharge IO, they could hit it again after 10 seconds. To say nothing of criticals or the fact they could follow up with Total Focus for another 65% of an Assassin's Strike. Not to mention, with fire aura being a scrapper set now, a EM/Fire scrapper could added Fiery Embrace into the mix as well.
PvE it would be potent, but I don't think game breaking. Most of the "uber" PvE sets are all about AoE, which EM is sorely lacking. But in PvP, it would be crazy. Pretty much a hero side Stalker with better surivivablity.
[/ QUOTE ]
You think of all that...yet you forget that a crit with ET would likely be the same as it is for a Stalker...No Added Damage. The scrapper would just not lose any life from using it. -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
i thought ice didnt go to villians cause of fury not working with the -recharge
here it says cause castle says its the "tank only' set?
isnt that a contradiction ?..besides it doesnt really say why dark couldnt have been the "brute only" powerset and not electric which was i think wanted more from the tanker section
castle?..any comments on that?
[/ QUOTE ]
Both are correct. The decision to keep Ice/Ice as a tanker only set was something I came to when we first started talking Powerset Proliferation, long after the COV beta. Ultimately, the concept was not adopted anyway, so the point is extremely moot.
[/ QUOTE ]
Save the unique sets for an expansion pack. -
[ QUOTE ]
Put me down as in agreement that this Proliferation is a big "miss" for Tankers and Stalkers. Sure, I can understand that Conserve Power is a duplicate for Electric Armor, just as Caltrops is a duplicate for Ninjitsu. But Electric is a highly requested set on the hero side, and even though it may still come out later, I feel the time would have been better spent on replacing a single power and coming up with another Tanker Primary later.
As for Stalkers, the Ice/Ice combination, again, has been requested many times on the villain side. Stalkers are a second best solution, since Brute players would prefer it, but to have Ice Armor at all on the villain side would be a plus. All giving Electric to Stalkers does is further imbalance the distribution.
Mind you, I love Electric Assault. (although the writer of the article obviously misplaced the correct name) But this Power Set Proliferation seems to be a little Electric-centric, and not necessarily where it should be.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, untill Elec/Elec is revealed for Stalkers I wouldn't call it a miss.
Dark/Dark. Really not a miss. Have you played one to 50 on a scrapper? Only going to get tougher on a Tanker.
Might not be the PvP champ. But in PvE, this one will be a monster. -
[ QUOTE ]
Possible reason for us not getting Electric Melee and Electric Armor for heroes yet. Recoloring blue electricity to red for the port from herosdie to villainside wouldn't be as hard as recoloring red to blue for the port from villainside to heroside. I imagine this bit of extra difficulty may have been a deciding factor in it's not being done for this round of Proliferation.
I'm sure Electric Melee will make it to heroside eventually, just as I'm sure that Broadsword will make it to the villainside.
Patience is a virtue.
[/ QUOTE ]
As has been mentioned...
Electric Armor has Conserve Power in it. A power that is available to Scrappers and Tankers in their Ancillary Pools.
Energy Armor has the same problem.
This means, they weren't an easy port (remember, only easy ports this go around).
Not to mention, going by themes as the devs do (and really, it's the best way to do it).../EA on a scrapper would mean EM/.
For all the hardcore PvPers out there, they'd be losing it even more. They'd completely forget that they got stuck with what is considered the worst Armor set possible.
Poison. As the devs said, they didn't think it was Heroic. RP aside, the tier 9 would need changed. Trollers don't get henchmen...pets yes, but not henchmen.
Thermal Radiation gives the sun feeling for plants (as mentioned by Doc Brain) and goes themetic with Fire Control.
Don't know why they picked Cold Dom/Ice Blast over AR/Traps. Bit surprised myself.
Scrappers as mention couldn't get EA or ELA, couldn't get Ninjitsu either (Caltrops). Now...no matter what set they got, PvP complaints would of insued. Ice/Ice (they get Hibernate), Stone/Stone (High DMG attack complaints or Almost unkillable complaints).
BS for Brutes? Would of gotten complaints too. It's Lethal DMG! Ice/Ice because it's already been tested would need to much work.
Regen, they probably thought it would require extra testing, and there for not the easiest to port. I doubt it has to do with QR. They've given it to Brutes already. They could of easily moved it.
I think it has more to do with higher HP, to go with more Regen, and 2 burst heals in the set.
A regens/ weakness, even with the new MoG, is burst dmg...a Brute would need even more burst dmg, and would regen it back faster. Testing would need to be done.
Corrs not getting PSI. Elec is Storms themetic match. COuld argue could, but then you could argue Energy is Force Fields match.
Corrs will get Psi blast, just gonna have to happen next round.
Doms. ILL has already been said by many of the more hardcore Dom players, that ILL would have a harder time building domination (only part time Dom player here).
And Stone is a GREAT controll set. I find them to be a love/hate when I get them on my teams heroside. Love the control, hate the graphics (they're just huge)
Elec as the Secondary? No idea. But I'd also wait to see if it's a good set...depends on the powers given and the numbers given.
Same goes with Stalkers. Elec/Elec can be a great set (if they ditch CP for a recon clone), and they do ElecM/ just right.
Those sets are wait and see. I wouldn't discount them yet. -
[ QUOTE ]
The *ONLY* reason I see brutes getting SR is to fight 40+ Longbow, with their Sonic Grenades. It's still counter-intuitive though, it's not going to build fury as fast as a resist set.
Does anyone else find it funny that the reasoning they used for not giving Brutes Ice Armor make for a very good reason why it should be on a stalker?
Electic armor is going to be a mess for a stalker.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just because /SR doesn't have a taunt aura, you think it won't generate fury?
When they still have taunt, and generate fury whether they get hit or not, whether they hit or not.
/SR is not a bad set. It's a tight build true, but it's far from a bad set. -
Is it "tomarrow" yet?

I thought we were supposed to be getting actual information today.
Play around with your flavour stuff if you must, but if you say you're going to provide information on a date, provide the information. Today's article tells us nothing about I12. Separating the information from the flavour text as was done today is both annoying, and cheaply manipulative of your playerbase in my opinion.
Saying that you will provide more information about I12 today, and failing to actually provide any information about concrete in-game facts today simply degrades the value of NCSoft's word, and erodes player faith and goodwill for no good reason.
This could have been handled so much better by announcing that the real information would come tomorrow, and presenting today's bit of flavour text as a bonus article. That way it would have seemed like a cool extra, instead of a cheap bait and switch tactic.
As it was handled today, you may as well have posted "Your Princess is in Another Castle" and left it at that.

I can swear they said maybe a bit later than thursday. -
I like the little story in and of itself.
Don't know if I care for it on the RP lvl tho. I think I'd still like to believe the powers have always been there, just haven't been seen yet.
And on that tease...oh...mean. cruel. well played. -
I have a question about the makeover...is it going to be easier to get the Cavern Trail?
I love this trial. Used to run it all the time. I even remember the one time I spent 16+ hours trying to beat it (bad PuGs...no stealth/tp, on some of the attempts...ect) and then completing the first thing the next morning
However, while I still hit the hollows, I don't make the effort like I did before to not out level the contact.
So just wondering, is it easier now? Cuz that trial is still one of my favorites to do. -
Question...did they make it easier to get the Cavern Trial?

personally i hated being like lvl 6 and having to go all the way across the zone to the lvl 14 area. It taught me good aggro management and back when lvl 5 was when u started debt it taught me that debt was nothing to be afraid of! Alas with the temp travel powers and the raising of the debt level and lowering of the debt cap these lessons have long since left.....
[/ QUOTE ]
I always found if you stuck to the streets, instead of running in a straight line to the missions in the lvl 14 area...I avoided faceplanting.
Now, if you wanted to get to the mission faster, you could do the straight line, but it was more risky. -
While I never had a problem with Hollows as it is now.
I can understand how others thought it was rough tho, so it's probably a good change.
However, I do like the added Hospital for the hazard zone. Never minded faceplanting , but sometimes that walk from AP Hosp back to the Hollows could get annoying.
Never had a problem with kill steals in either CoH/V, but I do think it's cool to have some Legacy Chain walking about, but I won't lie to you...Wyvern would of been cooler.
It would be nice if this got some more people into the Hollows, instead of KR police band missions (I like the option, but story arcs are fun too). -

QR.
Why would Brutes want Ice OR SR? How well would a defensive set play out on a Brute who wants fury?

Cuz misses count for fury just as much as actual hits. -

Actually posion would fit even more perfectly than thermal. Especiall with Plant/ LOL.
Also add in the fact that controllers already have a set that gives similar buffs to thermal
ding ding ding.... /EMPATHY.
I'm thiking they'll be looking to give controllers another DE-BUFF set like /storm, such as /dark or /poison or /traps.
EDIT: Also Dark Miasma is asked for WAAAAAY more than thermal for controllers.

Time will tell.Either way, whether it's Thermal or not. It's win for Trollers imo.
More options is all that really matters.

TRUTH. Honestly as a controller lover I'd be happy with ANY of those LOL.

I just REALLY REALLY want a Fire/Fire/Fire troller. -

Yeah...I forgot some of those Debuff/Buff sets. <I smacked myself if that makes people feel better>.
Still, for Trollers...Thermal is my bet. Could easily be wrong of course. But I'd give it the nod over Poison to go with Plants, seeing as how I can see the life giving plants = Empathy more than Fire Controll = Radiation.
Defenders has alot of options too...I doubt it'll be Poison (no matching Primary). Ice/Cold or AR/Traps seems the best bet (still can't believe I forgot the Traps...I have one of those.)
And MMs have lots of choices for a secondary, but Empathy is sounding like the one.
No new sets are coming tho, just ports. So, for scrappers I'm hoping ElM/ElA (lack of self-heal would go against the tanks I think), with DA/DM most likely for them imo. -
I forgot Dark too.
Still betting Thermal tho.
-
I think your reading my message wrong, Blaze_Aura.
Ice Control and Storm Summoning fit well together theme wise (Don't think I wouldn't mind a Ice Control/Cold Domination theme tho...not saying that).
However...Fire Control/ for the Trollers lacks a nicely matching Secondary. Thermal Radiation fixes that.
Seeing as how we know Trollers are getting a new Primary and Secondary. And seeing as how it's being ported over and not a newly created one, that leaves two options...
Thermal Radiation and Cold Domination.
Now, if I was going to bet on which one, I'd bet on Thermal for theme reasons.
However...I guess Traps or Poison too. Can't believe I forgot those two sets. :P That opens it up more.
Still betting Thermal Tho. -
[ QUOTE ]
Again, I dont' think they are doing these INTIAL ones by matching.
And you forget that the controllers get ICE control primary. So cold is just as likely as thermal.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't forget. However, Cold/Storm isn't a bad fit themetically. Fire/ lacks it more imo.
