  1. Tough call, so many fun combos really.

DB/Dark is fun, because you just don't see them around. Though I never did get mine to 50 (concept reasons).

    SR vs Shields

If I could get the shield power set without shields...i'd go Shields.

It's a more fun powerset. Shield Charge might not be up every spawn, but it's just to much fun.

AoE heavy? Does this mean you're going to be wanting to run Damage auras?

I never pick those up until after level 30, that's just me. I have to have a bunch of other issues at least partway under control before I start messing with those.

Endurance issues are a big problem in this game for a lot of us. For every person shouting "Oh having no endurance 'adds balance' and makes you appreciate the journey from 1 to 50 oh so much more!" you got at least one person grinning and bearing it for the time being.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I understand that no one (except perhaps Fire Blast people) are going to be doing much effective aoeing before 20 cause of endurance, I just meant in the grand scheme of things, I'd like to be good at it eventually. I keep ragequitting at about level 6 from running out of end and being forced to stand around doing nothing while I wait for it to return, because rest's cooldown is too long.

I actually have a Nin/Dark MM I got to 21 recently, and it's what prompted the comment about AOE. The Ninja's are completely ST based, and most of the game is simply how fast and efficiently you deal with groups of enemy minions/lts. Having impressive ST dmg isn't that great most of the time. A genin always seems to die each spawn, and now that the upgrade costs 50 end it's just a huge headache to constantly replace him....

    [/ QUOTE ]

You're level 6. Turn off sprint.

You have 3 attacks at most, so I doubt it's non stop.

Are you going up against alot of end drainers at lvl 6?
  4. [ QUOTE ]
It's counting Quills. Not counting any eventual procs, but that wouldn't help that much, not compared to MA for which it makes a huge difference.

Should also point out that all my chains are theoretical.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But the difference lies in the fact that Martial Arts is a single target set, with one AOE.

    Spines is the AOE set.
  5. And it also gives defense to S/L. Small amount yes, but it stacks with set bonuses/other powers.
  6. Last I knew, tankers and scrappers had the same DMG to RCH to END USE ratio.

But tanker have the lower damage scalar.

    As it should be.
  7. I have, but I still see the shield

And like mentioned, you still animate like you have one.

Admittedly, if they made this set, we'd see less Shield users, but I don't think the shield users would all leave.

It'd also be a way for Claws, Dual Blades, Spines, Katana, and Stalkers to have the set.

But yeah, like I said...game play wise, I love the set. It's just having the shield...it limits the concepts for such a great set.
  8. I can't be the only one who would like to see this. The game mechanics of the Shield Set, without having to use a shield.

Call it Command Leadership or something similar.

I love how the set plays, I just wish I could play it without actually using a shield.
  9. I have a lvl 44 MA/Shield (love the combo), a lvl 30ish MA/WP that I recently rerolled to a now lvl 17/18 MA/SR.

Personally, I just didn't care for the MA/WP pairing (which is to bad, it fit the concept in everyway, but I rerolled to MA/SR and say it has alot of what MA/WP did ).

And looking at my sig, I obviously love WP. Just...didn't like those two set together.

Do I think the set can use some improvements? Oh sure. But as is, it's not that bad at all. But if I was going to beef it up a bit, something out of the following...

Storm Kick, Id like to see -DEF added on it, but not needed (this is purely me wanting to slot a -Resist Proc IO into it. I admit that freely).

Crippling Ax Kick, I'd like to see the animation tweaked further. It still feels off so much to me, that I skip it. It's better than before, but still...off.

Eagle's Claw, let me say...OMG I love this animation. That said, can we speed it up just a bit. I'm suprised that I notice it's .2 more seconds of animation time than that of Headpslitter. And in that it's purely ST vs BS's Headpslitter doing more dmg as a cone and it's faster...:/ I know, EC has a good stun...doesn't matter to me though

Cobra Strike. I personally, don't find the stun that useful. If it was turned into a real high damage punch, with a chance to stun, id pick it up in no time (MA could use a real punch attack).

Other that, that only other thing I can think of to improve Martial Arts, is to have it put you into a boxing stance. But that's personal preference for my own MA/SR's concept >.>

BTW: Might sound like I'm saying it needs all of this. I'm not. Just things I would do to the set if I could.

As it is now, I'm prefectly happy with it. The set's milestones being lvl 26 (Dragon's Tail) and lvl 32 (Eagle's Claw). THose two attacks make the set for me.

my biggest fear is what happened on the last expansion, we got COV which was a good thing, but they sneaked in ED along with it, based on past actinos, I can not but help wonder if some sort of (for lack of a better term)ed 2.0 will not come along with it,while it may not be a true ed 2.0 it may be some kind of reshuffling or nerfing of our chars, i rememeber the forums exploding with angey posts and such.,yet not 2 days eariler we were all happy about the announcment that we would not be charged extra for having both games.and getting 4 extra slots for our new cov chars.maybe at the timeof the expansion, they may decide to raise the monthly
fees or some such, and as long as they do not force the new "morality" playig on me and it is optional ,ill be happy

    [/ QUOTE ]

When ED happened they said it was because they couldn't advance the game without it.

    They just didn't say why.

Now we know...Invention Origin Enhancements. Time to get over ED. ;P
  11. From a feel perspective, DC always felt more powered than Marvel.

But you're right. Just look at CoH. People who aren't comicbook/superhero fans play the game, just because they like the costumization/speed/fun of the game (saddly, it's that fact that ruins the comicbook/superhero feel to the game as well >.&gt.

However, the game will still have the superman & lex luthors of the game. Those who stay to one path strictly.

Though it'll mostly be those who actually play for concept, than those who just play to get everything/go the route for whatever has the most potential to make them the most powerful.

One can hope that whatever Karma mechanic they come up with will put as much value on ideological good and evil as it will on common acts of benevolence or cruelty, and would also differentiate between malice and evil vision.

    [/ QUOTE ]
From the way they're making it sound, the alignment system sounds like it will be based off of certain missions. That sounds to me like it's not going to be like some games where if you kill a guy you get evil points, but if you let him live, you get good points, repeat ad nauseum. My wild speculation is that Praetorian Earth is going to essentially be a huge co-op area, and anyone can do any mission. Doing "evil" missions turns your alignment towards evil, and doing "good" missions will turn your alignment towards good.

My major hope is that they don't make the same mistake that most games make, where the choices are always between being Jesus and being Charles Manson. I'm hoping that there's a gray area with some real moral dilemmas to choose between.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My guess for the system will be given options to what type of mission you do.

I also don't see why CoH & CoV won't have the same moral compass. The only difference being, if you do CoH missions, you know you're going towards good, CoV missions, you know you're going towards evil, CoR missions provide that grey area...both good, evil, and possibly in the middle.

if anything you'll be seeing tons of Trollers and Blasters redside replacing Corrs and Doms

    [/ QUOTE ]
I love all these wild speculations about stuff being replaced. Everyone seems to think that the ATs they personally enjoy will be replacing all the ATs on the opposite side.

Though I have to admit, it'd be really funny if it all became true and redside was all Defenders, Tanks, Controllers, and Blasters while blueside became all Brutes, Corruptors, Doms, and MMs.

    [/ QUOTE ]

its just that, effectivley Controllers have the sam Bufffing as a Corr, and provide better control than a Dom, making those rolls obsolete whhen looking for a Corr or Dom for a team, when the troller is available.

As for their damage contributions via ranged damage....

    BLASTERS!!!!!!!!!!

    [/ QUOTE ]
No, it's just that everyone thinks the AT they play is superior to other options and will replace all the other ones. As much as you say Controllers will replace Corrs and Doms, I see people saying Corrs will replace Defenders, and Defenders will replace MMs, and MMs will replace Tanks, and Tanks will replace Brutes, and Brutes will replace Scrappers, and Scrappers will replace Stalkers... et cetera.

If you play a Corruptor, it's because you like Corruptors. Naturally, you believe everyone else wants to be playing Corruptors because it's so obvious how great they are. Truth is, for the most part, if people wanted to be playing Corruptors, they would be. Side-switching will allow people to play ATs on a different side, and for a while we'll see a huge influx of evil Controllers and good Brutes, but eventually it'll iron out. Yeah there will still be evil Controllers, but are they going to totally replace other ATs? I seriously doubt it.

Everyone has a theory on which ATs will become "obsolete" and which ones will "replace" them, and they all contradict eachother.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Going rogue will allow those who strictly play heroes to try out those redside ATs they've been eyeing, but don't want to play the villain.

    Same in reverse.

After that, it'll just be as usual, people playing the AT they like the best.

That said, I do have my thoughts wondering if Corrupters will replace Defenders.

Dom's, I don't think will be replaced by Trollers, for the fact that Dom's are about Control & Assault. Trollers are about Control & Buff/Debuff. Some people just don't want to be the buff/debuffer, but like the control (I'm sure you see those Trollers blue side, with almost none of their secondary, but all of their Primary).

Tankers/Brutes/Scrappers/Stalkers...all melee, but they all feel different in play. Can Brutes tank? Yes. But a Tanker does it better. Those who want to tank, will make the Tanker.

Masterminds blueside? Of course we all see that happening. There's nothing even close like them blue side. This is the AT I think we'll see the most of blueside, at first, when side switching happens.

Blasters is my guess for blue to red.

All just guesses, and thoughts really, I could easily be wrong.

  15. I won't lie. I've never kicked off a kheldian from any teams I form.

I've ran ITFs with 3 kheldians on the team, with no problem (PuG ITF mostly)

I joke about them all the time.

Even have my own PB working her way up on Virtue.

Still, when I go looking for members to join teams I'm forming, Kheldian are never the first pick to go to.

Though yes, that knockback gets annoying to some melee's. Especially when it's melee who prefere enemies in close to survive better.
  16. I want the "ASSAULT SET TO BEAT ALL MELEE SETS"

Dual Pistol, Dual Blades and Martial Arts all rolled into one set of total "BRANDX's CONCEPT IT COMPLETE" SWEETNESS.

It would have a few ranged attacks (Dual Pistols) with nice looking melee attacks (Dual Blades & Martial Arts)...and look ever so beautiful.

Oh, can even have one melee attack be a close range Dual Pistol attack.

    Storm Kick
    Eagle's Claw
    Dual Wield
    Empty Clips
    Typhoon's Edge
    Vengeful Slice
    Sweeping Strike
[insert brand new melee Dual Pistol Attack here]
    Build Up

My build would be so tight...but I'd love the whole set.

I'm thinking the Martial Art moves don't cause redraw of weapons. You can make the moves with the weapons in hand. However, switching weapons will cause redraw.

The new Dual Pistol Melee attack would be like a roll kinda jump kick, with you shooting at the target causing knock up, instead of kicking them up.

*continues to dream for this set*

You're missing my point. Why is it only brought up SOMETIMES to deny a proliferation when there are so many examples of existing powers that would seem to break those same rules?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Can't say I know. I can only imagine it's because there's more than one person working on things (possibly even different people than there were originally) and sometimes the person who's doing stuff at the time doesn't care about concept or has other priorities over concept. If I was in charge of anything related to concept, Brutes and Tanks wouldn't have Dual Blades.

Now I wish you were in charge. Especually if you tell me Stone Armor stays just with Tanks and Brutes.

Hey, I think it's awesome all the way around. It does give a slight advantage to vets at the earlier levels, but so what? If someone has been around for 60 frickin months, HAVE AN ADVANTAGE! Please, you deserve it by all means!

but seriously? It takes like an hour to get to 14 and get a travel power. It's not like it's some huge unattainable goal that can never be met by new players! I really wish people would get over themselves and stop bickering about everything that comes out. It's really sad to see the same people complaining over and over again, yet they're still here.... hmmmmm....

    [/ QUOTE ]

I haven't read the whole thread, but the advantage I would think /most/ people are complaining about, is this will give 60 month+ vets the advantage of one additional power choice.

I know I'll be dropping Hover or Air Superiority on a few toons, to grab something else I find more useful (this isn't to say Hover or AS aren't useful...on some I won't drop them on others I'll be glad too)

They can take care of the speed runs, with Diminishing Returns.

With my example on KHTF, it's merits won't go up much. You get the OMG lots of merits quick, then if you run it a 2nd time, you get...1/2 that.

[/ QUOTE ]Unless they find a way to use Diminishing Returns on multiple characters...no, they can't. People will just do as they've always done, and run multiple Edens back to back, just on different characters.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can't trade merits, so what would it matter if they did do multiple runs on multiple characters?

As for Katie Hannon TF, they're giving 7 merits (that assumes the avergae 35 min KHTF), what did I say the average seemed like? 45-60 minutes, so all that does is increase the amount of merits to 9-12.

Do a second run with the same hero, it lowers to 4-6 merits.

Now Positron would get one big boost in amount of merits in what I consider the avg. time to be for it. But I also run it with 8 man teams, and tend to run it with a few lower lvl (if not all) in the team.

But again...I have to ask. Who cares? And if they do, why?

So /some/ people can speed thru a TF. So /some/ people will get more merits. So what? Why even care about it?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
    QR

On the subject of random rolls, I did an experiment. I have run ten TFs since the merit system details were put out, and I have kept track of my drops.

4/10 - Useless to any of my alts.

    Edict of the Master Damage
    Malaise Proc
    Call of the Sandman Acc/Rech/Sleep
    Pacing of the Turtle Proc

2/10 - Generally held to be of limited value, but I do have some alts who could use those sets.

    Performance Shifter Rech/Acc
    Dark Watcher Rech/End

2/10 - Moderately useful to me. They're from good sets, but they are procs and I don't put very many procs in my builds.

    Positron Proc
    Devastation Proc

2/10 - Useful pieces, ones that I can use in a number of my alts.

    Scirocco Dam/Acc/End
    LotG End/Rech

So by this quick sample, I got 60% that was useful in *any* way, and only 20% that was what I could call universally useful to me. Those odds just aren't good enough for me to waste merits on random rolls.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Now see, on most of my builds...I only find the Devastation Proc useful, and that's on a very limited number of my builds.

I think you should base the amount of merits rewarded by the average time a TF takes, rather than what it can be sped to.

[/ QUOTE ]Good thing that's what they did!

See, the thing is, that for every team that runs Katie in 60 minutes...there are probably a hundred or so that run it in 30 minutes. I've run a few out of boredom or the badge, and just joined random teams, and I've never seen one go over 35 minutes.

Average doesn't mean *your* average time. Just because *you* complete Posi in 6-8 hours doesn't mean everyone does. Like how they did it or not...they took the average time for each TF...and all of them are fairly believable. The only aberation is Eden...but there were a *lot* of Speedens being run. Probably the fictitious 100:1 I made up in the above Katie example (which probably is also not far off). That tends to make the people that don't run it that fast get lost in the statistics.

And if you *really* want Posi to be reduced to the amount it can be sped to (like some dooooooomists are saying will happen a week after I13 launches, it seems), then Posi would be about an hour and a half or an hour.

Unfortunate? Somewhat. But it's the best solution at the moment (with the time nearing I13 launch coming closer and closer), if the devs don't want to give a random recipe for 10-30 minutes of work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

They can take care of the speed runs, with Diminishing Returns.

With my example on KHTF, it's merits won't go up much. You get the OMG lots of merits quick, then if you run it a 2nd time, you get...1/2 that.

I can't comment much on Eden. I've only done that Trial once in my almost 5 years of playing, and that was just a few days ago, and yes it was a SpEden.

Personally, my favorite TFs are KHTF, LGTF, STF, and ITF. None of which are particularly long...and with the right team can go really fast.

Problem is, you don't always get the right team to speed thru it.
  25. Let me say, I've run alot of KHTFs...I don't do it for the chance for recipe. When I'm running 5 of these in a row, I just hit SO reward.

So, I'm actually just getting 2 recipe drops on this TF (maybe three if I decide to leave the window open).

I also tend to run it with PuGs. This doesn't lend itself to fast 25-30min runs.

I'd say more like 45-60mins is the avaerage.

I think you should base the amount of merits rewarded by the average time a TF takes, rather than what it can be sped to.

    I've sat thru a 9 hour+ Positron, your basing it's reward on a 4 hour Positron.

When on average, I'd say it's a 5-6 hour with most PuGs.

Not saying I haven't done a few 4 hour runs...but that has certainly not been the average speed of it.
