But we never got the answer to the question.

Or, rather, we got an answer, but it was not specifically accurate enough to provide enough data to determine completely without a shadow of a doubt a definative answer to the question stated.

Depends, on how you look at it. Math genius with wit. All you really wanted to know.
  2. My longest ITF, 9+ hours.

    Finished with 2 ILL/RAD (a lvl 50, and me sk'ed) and 2 Tankers (WP/? or INV/? lvl 50, with a sk'ed Ice/?)

It's been awhile sinse that one.

My fastest, 1:14 I believe it was.

My most fun...happened recently with my Cold/Ice Defender...last mission, we didn't clear the platform, we just rushed Rom THAT WAS FUN! And we beat him Think that TF clocked in around 1:25.

    It was a PuG too.

    Ice stalkers.

    Could just get rid of Hibernate from the PPP >.>;;

    Going Rogue

While I still don't agree with total power proliferation (stone armor shouldn't come to scrappers imo)...if the concept said it could be a scrapper or a brute, and I can get the set on the scrapper and brute, I'd go scrapper everytime.

I just don't care to constantly have to try and keep my fury bar up.

And I'm still not sure why you're so faskinated with Hibernate being in Ice Armor for Stalkers, when they can get it no matter what their secondary is 6 levels later with just one extra power choice (Spirit Shark or Water Spout). :/ You can slot it just the same at 44 as you can at 38

    [/ QUOTE ]

I like Hibernatye, for what it does and it's fun just to watch it's break out animation.

That said, I don't care much for the spirit sharks.

There are no instances of powers being duplicated within an Archetype (outside of VEATs, which are a special case).

So Hibernate would -have- to be replaced.

There are no instances of powers being duplicated within a powerset, so they could do it for the first time EVER!

    Some thoughts

While I would love to have the sybil outfits available. I believe the reason we don't is the same we don't have dresses that actually go to the characters feet...

    Martial Arts.

However that said, I wouldn't see why we couldn't get a Sybil outfit that goes to the length of longest dress options.

I would rather they sub in another another power, even if it was only situationally useful, than effectively have 1 less power to pick from.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, in that case, one could just not select Ice Armor, if they felt they got one less power choice.

I personally wouldn't change it. For one, that's been the set's tier9 for as long as it's been around. Best to just keep it that way. IMO anyways.

I personally wouldn't consider it, one less power. I'd consider it meant one wouldn't have to take it in the epics. And could therefore take something else.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
    being on-topic,
the arctypes will be unlocked by the original sides as the players may easily switch sides of a level 50, to another side and get both epics with only 1 lvl 50 toon

or to make things easier siwthced toons may not get epics at all :I

    [/ QUOTE ]

I would think they could link it to AT...

Scrappers/Tankers/Blasters/Defenders/Trollers hit 50, you unlock Kheldians

Brutes/Dominators/Stalkers/Masterminds/Corrupters hit 50, you unlock SoAs.

I don't see why they would change that. I wouldn't make it as easy as sideswitching your lvl 50 hero to redside to unlock the SoAs. I hope the devs don't allow that.
  11. BrandX

    Ice stalkers.

Or they allow Ice Armor to keep Hibernate, but if you pick it from Ice Armor, you can't pick it from the Epic.
  12. BrandX

    Ice stalkers.

    Going off SpaceNut's suggestions...

I don't see why they would get rid of Frozen Aura...Spines has Spine Burst.

    Frozen Fists
Ice Sword (though honestly, if ported, I would hope they give the set one sword and that's it...I hate having multiple swords with Ice Melee and Fire Melee myself)
    Frost
Assassin's Shatter (Encaser them in Ice and the ice explodes, more visually appealing)
    Build Up
    Placate
    Freezing Touch
    Greater Ice Sword
Frozen Aura (now they might consider getting rid of FA and put in Ice Patch...but I'd hope they kept this as the port because...)

    Hide
    Frozen Armor
    HoarFrost
    Wet Ice
    Glacial Armor
Ice Patch (...moves it from Ice Melee, to Ice Armor)
Permafrost (at this spot right here, because you change it to Resist Slows/21% Resist Cold/21% Resist Fire/10% Resist everything else Passive, to make up for losing CE's -14% dmg aura...I chose these numbers as I figure that's 75% of the tanker version)
    Energy Absorbtion
    Hibernate
  13. Oh I love the idea. I'd settle for CoH just giving us mecha options.

I highly doubt the devs are going to give us a set that exactly duplicates another, with different animations and graphics.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That's pretty much as far as it goes. Traditionally, the developers have never settled for (or gone out of their ways to make) multiple copies of the same powerset but with different graphics. If they make a new powerset, they make a NEW powerset, not a recycling of an old one but with a few graphics changed. Shield Defence is not just "defence that lets you pick a shield," it's a whole new approach to self-protection sets... That just also happens to let you pick a shield.

About the closest we can come to a valid comparison is CoH Live to I2 Katana vs. Broadsword, which shared the exact same animations, power names and general power effects, but had a different weapon around three years before Weapon Customization. However, even then the sets were not functionally identical, as Katana did consistently lower damage, but its attacks recharged consistently faster (with attack animation not being included into balancing equations at the time). What's more, this was later averted when I2 gave Katana its own brand new set of animations and power names, making it only vaguely similar to Broadsword in general design direction. The two sets still share similar effects, but with different power stats and animations, they play very much worlds apart.

If the idea of "Shield-Less Defence" is to have any merit, then the people voiching for it have really only one reliable option - to pin down exactly what it is they like about the set's functionality and try to suggest a new set with a new thematic that features those items.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I did. Call it Tactical Training.

Or do you mean rename every power too?
  16. Thanks for all the replies, I guess I'll pick it up then
  17. [ QUOTE ]
I highly doubt the devs are going to give us a set that exactly duplicates another, with different animations and graphics.

It's like asking for Spines without the spines, or Archery without the bow.

If your character's concept doesn't include a shield, why are you so dead set on using the shield set? I can think of half a dozen non-traditional concepts utilizing a shield that isn't a real shield. No one ever said it has to be a chunk of wood and metal on your arm. It could be anything you can imagine, here's some ideas utilizing the elemental shields:

My Shield/DM tank has a symbiote that attached itself to his left arm. The symbiote lives off of the host's energy, in return defending the host from harm. Using the Dark Elemental shield for this one.

I had a MA/Shield scrapper who had an energy gauntlet. The downside to it is the gauntlet was malfunctioning and could only form an energy field a couple feet across. Energy or Electric shield.

Fire/Shield scrapper with duality of powers, one side of the body produces fire, the other side produces ice. But a solid sheet of ice is all they have managed to develop yet. Using the Ice shield, naturally. You could also make a Shield/Fire tank and take the Ice Mastery epic pool to represent them gaining more control over their ice powers.

Shield/Stone tank or Stone/Shield brute. The ability to create various simple crystalline and rock shapes, but only in contact with your hands and arms. As soon as you let go of the shape you've created it crumbles away. You could use 3 different shields for this set, and create different costumes to go with it.

Your problem is you're not thinking far enough outside the box. You seem to be stuck on "a shield is a piece of metal that you wear on your arm" Use your imagination a little more and I'm sure you can come up with some kind of concept that works for you.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I figured I could just say it's a aura effect of using her powers. But doing that, I really want it to look like a butterfly. Maybe I should just ask for a translucent butterfly effect for shields.

To Talon Lee: Yes, it was entirely for selfish reasons. Like I said before, game play wise, I LOVE the set, it's mix of everything just...I love it.
  18. I see it in builds, here onthe forums, but in game play, I can't see why to take it...that is Mass Hypnosis.

What am I missing? Is it just to slot IO sets?

    Natural heroes

    [ QUOTE ]
I have a Fire/WP Scrapper already and enjoy him but it seems to be lacking something and I just can't put my finger on it. I am looking for a character concept that I can really get into.

I love Fire, but it seems a bit too much as far as graphics are concerned. Claws seem overdone and I have done BS already. Way back when I had a Spines/Dark and MA/Regen (during what some might call the glory days).

I was thinking something that could be more natural like Katana/SR, DB/SR or MA/SD. I can see DM being a nice match up for either of the secondaries. But I am not limiting myself to Scrappers in anyway.

I guess my biggest problem is I want to be tough, but I absolutely hate NOT having range. My first characters were a Fire/Fire Blaster and a Storm/Elec Defender. The survivability of my Defender was awesome but I always wanted more damage; like I got with my Blaster.

I am reaching out to the community for suggestions on which way to go this time around. How well do Archery/Devices or AR/Devices handle as far as survivability? I understand that there is a point in which you need to blame the player, but I am laying out the fairly open question anyway.

Any suggestions for a natural hero?

Thanks to all in advance for taking the time to respond.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Pick a powerset combo and go WHy limit natural to human? SUperman would be natural origin.
  20. Besides, like I said...get rid of the shield, and then stalkers, dual bladers, claw users, katana wielders can all use a fun set as well.

Stance change (probably hardest part), and power renames...call the set Tactical Training.

Again, great set, still more of a fantasy style powerset, than superhero.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't really understand this. Not when we had SWAT shields and Blue Steel in-game far before any other example of shields (ie, Cimerorans).

    [/ QUOTE ]

    SWAT does not equal superhero.

Blue Shield is CoH's Captain America.

How many superheroes in comics, use a shield?

Where does one usually see many shield users? Dungeon & Dragons and other medevil fantasy settings.

Again, love the set, hell, I love the Talasorian Shield (it's why I even made a shield user)...but, yup, after that...all done.

    [ QUOTE ]
But yeah, like I said...game play wise, I love the set. It's just having the shield...it limits the concepts for such a great set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That picking Shield Defence limits a concept to using a shield is pretty much the point - the set was introduced to allow people to use a shield for their character. Asking for shield defence without the shield is little different from asking for Assault Rifle without the assault rifle or Broadsword without the broadsword. It is what it is.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Okay...can I ask it this way...

Can we get a powerset, that has all the same powers as shield, but doesn't actually use a shield?
  23. [ QUOTE ]
You want Shield Defense without a Shield for a concept?

So, why don't you take one of the other Defensive sets? Try Willpower. It has many of the same strong points as Shield Defense.

Or is this really just about wanting to do a Shield Charge without having to use a Shield?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    It's all of it. :P

I have a lvl 44 Shielder, I have multiple 50 WPs (and ones not 50).

It's really just about all around loving the set, but the shield not working with the concept.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
We waited so long to get shields I guess we shouldn't be suprised someone would complain that they have to have a shield to use the set.

    [/ QUOTE ]

To be fair...while I find shields a fun set...I did not wait for shields. In fact, I asked many times for something else entirely, as Shields in superhero comicbooks is used by so few.

Again, great set, still more of a fantasy style powerset, than superhero.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
That's actually something that's -always- upset me. Take a look at these powers...

    Howling Twilight

Activating this power channels the power of the Netherworld to weaken your foes, in an attempt to revive all nearby fallen allies. You must stand near your defeated allies to revive them, then select a foe. The selected foe and all nearby foes will be Slowed, Disoriented, and drained of some life. Revived allies will have full Hit Points and Endurance and will suffer no ill effects and are left protected from XP Debt for 20 seconds

    Twilight Grasp

You channel Negative Energy from the Netherworld through yourself to a targeted foe. Twilight Grasp drains the power from that target and slowly transfers it to you and all nearby allies. The targeted foe's chance to hit and damage are reduced, while you and your nearby allies are healed.

Despite the description, the healing is instantaneous, not gradual. Furthermore, the description doesn't mention that this power also debuffs its target's health Regeneration rate.

The Mastermind version of Twilight Grasp has half the healing radius of the others.

    Siphon Life

You tap the power of the Netherworld and create a life transferring conduit between a foe and yourself. This will transfer Hit Points from your enemy to yourself. Foes siphoned in this manner have their chance to hit reduced.

    Dark Regeneration

You can tap the dark essence of the Netherworld to drain a small amount of life from all enemies nearby, thus healing yourself. The more foes affected, the more you will be healed.

None of them say ANYTHING about sucking soul... Untill you get to these three.

    Soul Transfer

Should you fall in battle, you can perform a Soul Transfer, sucking the life force of all foes around you to bring yourself back from the brink of death. The more foes nearby, the more life is restored to you. Drained foes are left Disoriented. The dark effects of this Soul Transfer will actually leave you invulnerable for a brief time, and protected from XP Debt for 20 seconds. There must be at least one foe nearby to fuel the transfer and revive yourself.

    Soul Drain

Using this power, you can drain the essence of all nearby foes' souls, thus increasing your own strength. Each affected foe will lose some Hit Points and add to your Damage and chance to hit.

    Dark Consumption

The dark power of the Netherworld allows you to tap the essence of your foe's soul and transfer it to yourself. This will drain the Hit Points of your enemy and add to your Endurance.

And those right there are the reasons I can't bring myself to take a Dark/Dark scrapper hero -seriously-.

Killing is a horrible and deplorable act for a hero to commit. You're ending someone's life. It creates pain in the form of remorse (Typically) for the hero, pain for the victim's family, and a total lack of feeling in the Victim.

But tampering with and damaging someone's eternal aspect is a -far- more heinous act. As it damages them eternally.

    -Rachel-

    [/ QUOTE ]

It never says your destroying their soul. And who's to say a soul can't heal on it's own?

Besides, it's easy to kill in CoH and get away with it. Look, the badguys are trying to kill me. So you kill them in self-defense.

But note the difference, between just going up to a criminal and slicing away, than going up to them, telling them to stop, then they try to kill you.
