In almost everything else, I find Regen and WP can last pretty much evenly.
However, on the ITF, I think it's more than just WP's little defense debuff resistance that in it's favor.
It's it's combination of defense (I can make a softcapped WP with IOs, but I havent been able to softcap defense, and hit cap on HP, but still give it decent regen with just one target in range 70-75 I beleive it was...maybe someone else has been able to do better?), resistance, almost capped HP, with good regen, and a tier 9, that helps wheneverything is about to go south.
Regen on the other hand, is great regen (better than WP), but lacks the defense and resistance. So it's taking alot of the damage faster than it can handle.
This is from my experience btw.
Hell, I don't even care to take my Electric Armor brute out on the ITF, I feel it's so poor on it (worse than Regen).
I think that's where my feeling that WP is better at the ITF. For a set that people say can't take the alpha, I find WP takes it alot better than people think, and does so better than Regen who (while they can take an alpha) can't take it as well as Regen if it's big enough one.
While I've done the ITF with IOed out Regens, maybe they werent the optimal build? With Regen, I would think you'd want as much recharge as possible, with defense thrown in (and this is me assuming Tough/Weave added in as well).
All that said, this is the only thing in the game where I see a big difference in the sets.
Everything else, I see them perform about the same (ITF itself deals with ALOT of enemies), unless you throw PvP into the mix, then /Regen pulls ahead of /WP...sooo...that could be the deciding factor. -

That logic went wrong somewhere.
And I've personally never been outlasted by a anything/regen, but that's just me, I'm a crazy kat/wp.
[/ QUOTE ]
You've obviously never played with a crazy good, equally well built Kat/Regen. I routinely outlast Dark/WP by a long margin, even when they're built to the brim like myself.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not saying Regneration is a weak secondary, but I don't think it's for everybody.
I've played BS/Regen, BS/WP and BS/DA. Both my BS/DA and BS/WP got to 50 not issues and had tons of fun. My BS/Regen is still stuck at level 37 because after player her for an hour I have to log off in disgust.
I've played DM/Regen, DM/DA and DM/WP. DM/DA is obviously my favorite. I tried force myself to play my DM/Regen to 50, but by the time I got to level 46 it became about as enjoyable as dental surgery. I'm loving my DM/WP (level 44) and find her infinately more survivable than my DM/Regen.
At this point, I've just decided Regeneration simply isn't for me. Presently, I can't imagine what would ever possess me to role another one. That doesn't make it a bad set, it's simply not compatable for my playstyle.
[/ QUOTE ]
From a basic SO/generic IO slotting, I can possibly see how skilled /Regen might be better than a skilled /WP. Possibly. I'm not to sure on it though.
Add IO's to the mix, I think a skilled /WP is going to out survive an equally skilled /Regen.
I base this alot of this on ITF runs mind you. -

All you need to worry about is recharge debuffs.

Redraw might cause a bit of trouble.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'd been waiting for years to do a Sword and Shield toon.
It IS incredibly annoying that the natural Sword and Shield combo doesn't mesh because of redraw.
If the animation was nixed it just might fix the redraw problem.

Weapons sets with Ninjitsu and Super Reflexes has the same problemIt's not really that bad.

Honestly, it sounds to me exactly like a Brute with the exception that it's using ranged attacks rather than melee. The +dam mechanic is simply one half of Fury (get attacked, generate +dam) and primary/secondary balancing would be functionally identical. They would probably even share the same defensive sets, and it would pretty much need some kind of "blastvoke" to make the inherent worthwhile.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, Brutes get Fury from any type of attack. Not just melee. (I only say that, because that's what your post makes it out to sound...at least to me).
As for the AT idea...so this is an idea for an Epic AT? Set in Power choices (like a Khledian), instead of like a Scrapper with many different primary/secondary choices). -
Ice Armor's Energy Absorbtion does really well on END as well.
My Claws/Regen Scrapper never ran out of end, and she ran Focused Accuracy all the time (with the Fighting Pool). -
I get merits so much on the Rikti Raid, and don't see the Rikti Magus that big of a threat.
Just got my MA/Shield to 50 on Monday (or Sunday) doing a Rikti Raid on Virtue.
Maybe you havent gotten enough people on the raids? -
While I agree with the majority of the posts (I think all of them at this point)...1 end per 10 badges, is just stupid.
However, I did like the suggestion of 1 end per 100 badges.
Mind you, I have no idea how many badges total there are in game. But assuming 900 possible from a character created in i1 (or whenever badges were introduced...I came in at the beginning of i3), that's only 9 END. Doesn't seem to unreasonable.
But that said, I could live without it as well. -

a sidegrade - which does not address the community's top three stated problems
[/ QUOTE ]
IIRC one of the top complaints was low damage and another was feeling like Domination was necessary just to perform at an acceptable level. The proposed change addresses both of those specifically.
While ideally I'd like to see a change that addresses PToD EBs specifically, I don't see that happening. I'm fine with that though. It doesn't bother me that much to have to rely on inspirations for those encounters. Especially since the usual "4xLucks and a mess of Enrages" approach will be much more effective now.

I've played a few different Dom's (admittedly none to 50 yet), but I have played 2 trollers to 50, and on my troller I have a hard time locking down AVs/EBs, with stacking of holds.
My Dark/Ice/Psi Defender did too, and she had 3 single target holds she could almost fire off at a great pace. Almost seemless if I recall (been awhile sinse I played her).
So, why the complaint about Dominators holds not doing, what Trollers can't do either?
Or is it the whole, I must solo AVs type of deal? -
Mind/Elec Dom. Been having fun with mine. Lacks on the AOE, but I'm used to Single Target soloing.

Hazard zones, for some of my characters, tend to be *fun.* Bigger spawns, more possibility of things going south *fast* if you're not really on your game. It's a different sort of gameplay from the mission-to-mission with maybe a SF gameplay redside has now.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have no problem with bigger spawns.I just don't think Redside needs the hazard zone mechanic (lvl restricted zones).
Yes, they have them for Cim and Oro, but you get my point.
Also, I don't like the idea of Redside having as many zones as Blueside, namely because, while I admit to being more of a blueside player (though I do play redside), one of the draws for redside to me, is the less zones.
I do think Redside needs a lvl 25-30 SF. And I would love it if redside got access to the Shadow Shard. -
[ QUOTE ]
I didn't take it on my shield scrapper either and don't plan do and here is why.
1.It only buffs others in melee range and maybe not all of them
2.If someone else is in melee with me they can keep their own hide alive just like I'm doing.
3.I kill stuff not buff stuff unless it's myself.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well it does grant you Defense Debuff Resistance and -Slow Resistance.
I took it at lvl 49 on my MA/SH, and slotted an ENDRED in it. -
[ QUOTE ]
First of all disclaimers: A. I have no idea if this is even mechanically feasible within the CoX game engine. B. I'm not sure that it's really needed, and C. if it might break game balance. That being said, let me try and define what my pea brain is thinking.
The reason I called it a pseudo-anchor is because you would want/need some sort of visual representation within the game of who your Single Target Fury (STF) was attached to or else it would be fairly useless if you had to keep switching targets to figure out who had it. Talk about creating a headache.I don't see it as a true anchor because I'm not looking at is as a debuff, but really following the fury mechanic of the damage building over time/attacks.
Mechanically it might need to be something like the inherent Dom power button so that you could set the STF target, but I don't see it as building up and giving you the same Inspie style boost that the Dom inherent does.
Hope that makes some sort of sense.
[/ QUOTE ]
I liked your idea. Though I think I'd keep it more simple.
Single Target Fury, like you said, but if they change targets then it resets.
Really, for Minions/LTs/Bosses, you don't need it as much (when ona team anyways), but this Fury Lite would really shine on AVs/EBs/GMs.
Seeing as how Brutes get the tankers inherit (at a lowered amount), I don't see why Tankers couldn't get Brutes at a reduced amount.
Just keep it to attacks you do on one target. Not attacks they do on you. If you switch targets, it automatically resets.
I like it -
I don't think it's been proliferated yet because...
1) Tankers have Axe and Mace
2) If they did proliferate it as the first set, Tankers would of moaned alot about getting more Lethal Damage sets.
They've only gone one round of proliferation. I really don't think it's Parry keeping them from giving it to Tankers.
If Broadsword was ported over, without tweaking it's dmg to make up for Tankers lower dmg mods, Parry would likely be it's only saving grace.
I also wouldn't see why they would need to change the 15% Melee/Lethal Defense. But I guess they could. Still wouldn't see why they would though. -
Martial Arts has a lot of nice animations.
I've gotten it up in levels on a few different toons...MA/SR, MA/WP, and my highest at lvl 48 MA/Shield.
If you're looking for the highest single target DPS, yes, there are better choices.
If you're looking for a good mix of ST and AOE, yup, other choices.
If you're looking for style. Well, Martial Arts is one of the tops for that.
For a rare sight, MA/DA (Death Shroud will add to your AOE), is a way to go. -
What I think would be even better...dual origins.
My name sake would be Magic/Science origin. I choose Magic as the origin, just because I prefere that Origin power over the sleep dart. -
I just did two ITFs in a row. If I wanted, I could get any TF going that I wanted.
What do you mean TFs are dead?
And the second one I formed during the server's hami raid.
If you don't find one being made, make it yourself.
Badge channels, broadcast, find members, look for those not on a team (name not greyed out) and ask them if they want to join. -
1) I approve.
2) Well, I know people have made their own SG for their lone toon and made the base their characters apartment.
I also know my SG has made rooms.
3) Red Side doesn't need Hazard zones (this is in response to the poster who wanted a red zone analog to them). It wouldn't make sinse.
Why would any villain stop another villain from entering a zone that's to tough for them?
That said, why do people keep wanting more zones redside? It's one draw for me, is that it's not bogged down with a bunch of zones.
4) AGREED 100%
5) I don't do the raids as much as I used to, but this wouldn't be a bad idea.
6) Could be fun. If it made sense for heroes/villains to do this. I mean really, why would heroes/villains play capture the flag with each other? Unless that flag was a kidnap victim >.> -

Never heard the term "fight fire with fire"?
There are already ways for some Fire users to gain some resistance to their type of damage. Temperature Protection is available to Fire/ Tankers, /Fire Scrappers, /Fire Brutes and Ice/ Tankers. Also, Blasters and Controllers both have access to Fire Shields in their Fire Mastery Ancilliary Pools.
Also, when you think about this not every fire user is necessarily going to be resistant to fire. What if my character is just a normal guy who throws flaming baseballs with protective gloves? Sure, my hands are protected but my body isn't. What if my character is a robot that is equipped with flame weapons? That doesn't automatically mean it's going to be built so that it's systems can't fry if they take hits from fire directly.
These are the kind of things that in the old Champions PnP could be written as Advantages and Disadvantages. In this game you have to leave it kind of open for concept and just the pick the appropriate AT and powers for your concept.
In your case you want to work yourself up to level 41 and pick up Fire Mastery. Then you will be up to spec with your concept.

Just RP it.
I mean really, if you stuck with just the powersets you can get, you're way to limited. :/ -

But a task force of one isn't a task force. It's a mission.
[/ QUOTE ]
And a task force of 8 isn't a task force. It's a merit run.
I15 has been on Test for what... hours? I took a glance at a couple of threads about it and already there's discussion of how fast it might be possible to do them, and whether or not they'll be a viable alternative to repeating the ITF.
A team of 6 or 8 is the worst way to experience any new story in the game for the first time. From my point of view, if this is all there is to the next issue, then I15 is a non-event, because by the time it goes live the speed run tactics will already be up and running, and that will be the norm.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know...if you want just the merits, Id wouldn't always go with 8.
Look at Posi, 3-4 people to speed it up. -
Personally, I skip Weaken/Empower combo.
They're really not that impressive, or worthwhile.
I did find using Powerslice and working my way to the Attack Vitals Combo.
Grabbing the Sweep Combo is good too. But, yes, it can be skipped. Doing that however, is more of a personal choice matter.
My 50 DB/WP has it.
My current DB/SR is skipping it, and going for just BF->AV combo (picked up Power Slice, I plan to get enough recharge I won't need to use it though) -

fury is a love/hate relationship. solo? love it. teamed with a dom or people who love to knockback (read: plethora of storm mm's who dont realize it's the worst thing they could have given to that particular at) hate it.
red side has the best laid out zones though. far FAR less walking around than blue side.
and scrappers get stone melee when brutes get katana and broadsword with parry and divine avalanche intact imo.
[/ QUOTE ]
Stone Melee should stay with BRutes/Tanks. >.> -
I'll have to say...naaa.
TF/SF are suppossed to be team oriented. Not that they can't be done solo. I've only done Positron solo myself.
You want to take time to take in the story, start/find such a group for the TF/SF.
I've run RP TF/SF for all the blue side, and took the time to at least read what we've been given for the redside.
Imperius is met right at the door on the 4th mission of the ITF, I don't know how you couldn't realize he was an ally to you in that mission, even if the team ditches him fast. -
Took me 2 1/2 years to get my first 50. That was with ALOT of game time put in.
Yes, I rerolled often. >.>
