I am not a hotshot modeler/texture artist, so I prefer to work on the basic looking stuff that can accept a broad range of character concepts being projected on to it. My opinion is that the more specific and detailed you get with something like this, the more narrow it's potential for fitting a lot of character concepts become.

Similiar sort of philosophy for all of the shields and weapons I personally modeled. Except for the Rularuu stuff.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a wonderful philosophy! please tell others about it before they make powersets like Demon Summoning AND necromancy or costume parts so specific and that they only fit with every other costume part in that costume "set"

[/ QUOTE ]

Interresting...I had a Necromancy/*I forget the secondary, it was before Storm was proliferated*, who's ability to raise the dead was a mutant ability.

I think I've heard of one, who used tech to raise the dead (nanobites in dead bodies to animate and control them).

How will Demon Summoning (and now Necromancy) limit you?

As for the costume pieces, the only limit I see in some of them, if not being able to blend into anything.

The leather heart top for example...the sleeves go half way down, but don't blend into ANYTHING! Grrrr...finely detailed top, and I never use it, because I can't get sleeves to fit with it.
2. ...okay, what AT/Powerset BLUE (HERO) Side, do you think of when you think of, "The Four Horseman of the Apocolypse".

That would be War, Famine, Death and Pestilence.

I have the concept...I have the background...and I can't quite get the powers I had envisioned for this character, way before CoH came out.

Sooo, I'd like to hear what AT/Powerset (you can include epic if you so choose), using blue side, you'd use.

One condition...Dark Miasma is out. I have it at 50, but I don't mind repeating some of the other sets.

Oh, and this is using current sets, not the ones coming in i16.

Remember: with great chest slider comes great responsibility. Especially in City of Heroes. Because even with all sliders on default, female models look kind of like crippled Barbie dolls, and messing with scales only makes it worse.

Developers! Make a new female model already, for the current one sucks. But I digress...

Heels. Every one of my attempts at a female character wore heels because of the odd way legs look on the female characters. I'm no artist, but something is just WRONG with females' legs when you wear flat shoes or go barefoot, it's bordering on the uncanny valley. Wearing boots with any kind of heel almost certainly cures this problem. I think the female models were INTENDED to wear heels all along, and flat footwear (or lack thereof) was more of an afterthought.

Skimpy outfits. I'm pretty sure some of you know my attitude towards nudity (well, Lothic should at least). That said, the problem with wearing skimpy clothes is that they are nothing more than body paint. Female models are already awful (where's the belly button by the way?) and outfits like Eden that lack any "substance" to them produce the effect of an animated, painted plastic doll. It's not alluring in the least and results in the uncanny valley effect again.

Side note: I'm shocked that this thread was started by a female.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's the legs. More noticeable when bare foot/high heels.

My main has her legs at the middle mark. In her normal boots (Large Heavy Buckles...pretty much on any outfit that will allow it for her) her legs look fine.

Minute I put her in a bathing suit/bikini for the SG beach/pool party *sigh* Her legs look way to long.

Put the legs at max, and it's seen even more.

The legs length all the way the other direction tend to have problems of their own.

In the end, a SG member of mine told me...

"All your toons look alike."

And this bothered me for awhile. Then I realized, I might have a billion+ options, but I only like a handful of those billion, and so, I'll continue to do what I've always done...

Make the toon look good in my eyes. All the matters.

As a side note, could of uped it's Regen more, but would of sacrificed acc in attacks for it.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is the one area where SS does have a definite advantage, since you can skimp on Accuracy slots to pump up Regen or whatnot some more. That's not to say that other sets are horrible or anything, granted. By the time you get near to 100 HP/s with one guy and capped S/L and near to the HP cap you're already pretty much Mr. Goofy as it is, and a difference of a few HP/s probably won't be felt that much.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, that regen is probably made up for in Dark Melee's Siphon Life.

And I think I can work around the accuracy issues still in the build.
6. As a side note, could of uped it's Regen more, but would of sacrificed acc in attacks for it.
7. Okay, here's a WP/DM build I whipped up for you real quick...

Blank HPT slot is for the PvP 3% Defense IO, and the blank MoB slot is for the PvP 3% Resist IO.

46%+ Defense to S/L/E/N and 36%+ to F/C
100.8 HP Restored a second with 1 target in range
2 HP shy of HP Cap
72% S/L Resist
44% Psi Resist
44.7% Psi Defense

Not a heavy DMG Dealer...but with Siphon Life added into the mix, it'd be a tough tank to take down.
8. Well, I know we've shown builds that cap HP, Regen 100+ HP a second with 1 target nearby, and had softcapped defenses to S/L/F/C/E/N...with 70% S/L.

I'll try to see if I still have the build for you later.

Should be easier to do with the new +3% Defense PvP IO though (before PvP IOs werent in)

Thunderstrike is a Single target attack with a splash of AOE Energy DMG and chance for KD.

The attack is fine.

And I don't see how the attack is harder to hit enemies behind you, as the AOE splash dmg is just that...AOE.

EDIT: Which is why I still think it should allow regular single target melee IO sets, versus the AOE Melee sets. :/

[/ QUOTE ]

It's a bit harder to hit enemies around you because the AoE is centered on your target unlike say Whirling Hands where it's targetted at you. A friend of mine even thought it was a cone because of that. Not that you can't hit enemies behind you, it's just that you'll probably get more targets with a PbAoE like W. Hands or Spin if you're in the middle of a lot of mobs.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh...that's how you meant it. Okay.

Yeah...I usually just target the guy in the middle for it.

13 second down time on Hasten. :/

However, when Hasten is up, SK -> CAK -> SK -> CK -> Repeat...best DPS chain for Martial Arts.

When hasten is down, throw in a Shield Charge would be my guess.

Missing enhancement in True Grit is for 3% Defense IO, for added Defense.

Melee defense comes to 43.6, while Ranged and AOE come to 46.7.

So not quite Softcapped to all positions, but close enough.

This is just a quick and dirty build for you, probably can get even better...but it was just a quick run through for you.

You know, I may be weird, but I really don't care in the least if a player is male or female no matter what their toon looks like.

[/ QUOTE ]

This.

My main has gone from mostly covered up, to skimpy, to fully covered up, to really skimpy, to what she's at now...for a super hero outfit...

Large Heavy Bucked Boots, Long sleeve bathing suit style outfit, banded heavy buckled gloves, spiked collar, and chain 2 chest detail, with a long scarf.

All said and done, only the Large Heavy Buckled Boots & Banded Heavy Buckled Gloves remain her only constant (for the hero outfit...civvies it varies, though the Large Heavy Buckled Boots usually remain constant).

Not out of the fact that it's likely better for combat, but simply because I like the look And thus, so does my character.

As for how skimpy her outfit is or isn't...varies for many different reasons. RP, change of pace...ect

I read through all the dev posts here and something doesn't seem to make sense.

Why would they transfer over Traps/AR rather than Thermal/Fire?

It has been said that the sets were picked due to "ease of implementation", but isn't a set that uses a whole bunch of different devices/sprites/models more complex than two sets that only use colored powers without separate devices/sprites/models to animate?

[/ QUOTE ]

The sets are already made. So the ease would be the same imo.

I think TRAPS/AR was chosen before THERMAL/FIRE because Dual Pistols is coming to Defenders, and thus people can have TRAPS/DP Defenders.

That's my guess anyways.
13. What travel power are you wanting?

On my DM/SR, I took Smite, AS at lvl 6, SL at 8, and skipped Shadow Punch and Shadow Maul entirely.

Never took Touch of Fear either.

I did fine lvling up till lvl 32 for Midnight Grasp.

Scrapper /shield

[ QUOTE ]
well I thought the evidence was there already.. 2 powers cant be setted out, Other AT's final power make them close to invulnerable to attacks, while OwtS is a let down, Grant Cover only grants a base 3% resist to the caster while everyone else in the group gets more. Against all Odds generates so much agro with its -foe dmg that even tankers have problems keeping agro off.

Shield charge is good in PVE, but again, useless in PVP. Its pretty obvious the designer for this set was more bent on PVE than PVP.

What good is slotting True Grit with more HP if Defense/Resist is borked the way it is? None what so ever. Just more HP they get to take off you because you cant defense yourself. I went with Resist sets on True Grit due to the fact that every little bit helps whether Def/Res is messed up currently.

[/ QUOTE ]

With myt MA/Shield...I found the OwtS a great power.

It gave me just enough ENDREC that it's crashed was never noticed.

Take in the +HP/Resists/and Defenses it has (I had Weave and a +3% Defense IO on mine), I did well with mine, and hardly needed OwtS except for some extreme situations.

What shield lacks, is a heal. Would it be nice to have one? Well of course! But you can get around not having one, but you'll either want one, or want to go DM/Shield if you want to go even more extreme on the survival front.

Softcapped Defenses + Decent Resists + Capped HP = alot of survival.

Add in Shield Charges knockdown, and what you're primary can add...I have found Shield to be anything but lacking.

Am I alone?

Talasorian Shield at lvl 35! Shield Charge at lvl 35!

Shield for scrappers is all about lvl 35!

I don't even use Shield charge as a rush into battle attack, I run into battle, let AAO buff me up, then Shield Charge and Dragontail the enemies.

That said, you're problem might just be, that you're low level.

If I could figure a way for my namesake being a /Shield Scrapper, I'd roll her up as a /Shield scrapper.

Now as I give it this glowing review, I fully admit, I hated the idea of shields being put in the game. Now I just hate the idea of WoW style characters with Shields.

To me that says alot about the set. It's a great set. With the different animations, even better. *huggles Energy SHield*

Now only if they'd make a Energy Broadsword skin (and might as well throw one into Katana and Dual Blades >.> ) to match Energy Shield.

19. Truthfully, I've never seen a problem with the name.

That's like saying, Broadsword shouldn't be called Broadsword, because some of the weapon skins aren't broadswords (one's even a Katana).

Sonic upgrade

My suggestions...

Sonic Siphon (I'm assuming it's non stackable btw)...increase the -RES to 40-50% and add in some -REGEN (I'm thinking 100-250%).

I only say increase the -RES, for solo thinking. As you can't use Disruption Field when solo. Though that said, a troller and Corr (epic pet) don't have that problem. Neither will a MM when they get the set (Im sure they will at some point).

I also like the idea of Clarity and Sonic Dispersion addinging in Psi resist. Maybe 15% to each, unenhanceable.

Next thing to do, alternate animations, so it's not always coming from the mouth.

IMO...set would be complete. I would also be rolling one up again with something like that added to them.
23. Truthfully...having run a Dark/Ice to 50. I find it's a great set. But for when up against AVs in some of the tougher TFs, I really don't see it as helpful.

Having lvled a Cold/Ice and a Dark/Ice to 50. Soloing isn't the problem...I've found all sets can solo with a bit of thought. It's the speed that bothers me. :/

My suggestion however...

RAD/Sonic (for the -RES aspect of Sonics) or RAD/Archery (for the love of Rain of Arrows)

Forming TF, AV, GM team:

"We need a rad! We can SK them up if need be."

Really. Rads/ are just highly looked upon for what I love to do in CoH anyways

And as I told people on my ILL/RAD before I respeced into Mutation recently, "No one invites a RAD for their rez ability" when someone complained about my lack of ally rez.

The team agreed.

Sadly...-to hit doesnt effect auto hit powers (but I still love the ITF )
24. [ QUOTE ]
My main beef with the set is how much effort and build sacrifice it takes to feel like it's performing at an acceptable level. Out of the box, the set feels inadequate to me, even after you take every single power. So then you have to start taking *extra* powers and buying IOs to get the defense up, at which point it becomes good - but getting there takes 40-ish levels and way too many of your power choices. I like actually being able to take the primary and pool powers I *want*, rather than the ones my secondary makes me take, and I like actually feeling like I have a secondary before the late 20s/mid 30s. As soon as ninjitsu comes to scrappers, I'm dropping SR like a hot rock and never looking back. I just wish we had gotten ninjitsu this round instead of lolelectricarmor.

It takes alot more IOs to get Ninjitsu to hit the defense softcap than SR.

Not saying I don't want Ninjitsu for Scrappers (I think Scrappers/Stalkers should have Ninjitsu and Brutes/Tankers should have Stone Armor exclusively).

Not to mention, if you do pick the powers in the right order, grab some IOs, you can have softcapped defenses at lvl 35 (well 36 for slots, but at 35 for exemping purposes) on a SR scrapper (softcapped melee/ranged before 35)...as it is with all sets, it takes personal choices and choices in what you want in the build.

Ninjitsu is an awesome set, BUT it screams for the devs to leave some sets specific to at/class. Think about it... ninjitsu scrapper... to me that just doesn't seem to fit. Ninjas don't scrap, they sneak around, strike, then haul [censored]/run. But don't worry, the devs clearly don't agree, as they are giving broadsword to stalkers... lol. Yeah, real easy to be stealthy lugging around a broadsword...

You obviously haven't looked at some of the weapon skins that Broadsword has. You're only thinking of the LEgacy Skin.

Let me see...

*sneak up behind target with what looks to be just a hilt to the sword in hand*

*Position hilt as about to stab the victim*

*Flip the switch*

SWOOOZZZAAAPPPT

*Victim finds glowing blade stick out the front of their chest*

TALASORIAN BS FOR THE WIN!

Not to mention the other much smaller BS weapon skins.

Broadsword is just the name of the category now. That's it.

Hell, one of the weapon skins for BS is a Katana.
