you could ditch air sup and get that snipe if you really wanted to. You could also get rid of teleport other for weave and get yourself some more defense. Since you already have fly pool open with hover you could also get fly, since the Z fighters do alot more flying than instant transmition.(AKA teleport)
I don't know. Powering up with Burn...

But also, he said homage, not 100% ripoff...sooo...Fire works imo.
  2. Looking at your power choices, I'd seriously prefere to just take Tough/Weave.

After all, you take Manuevars, and Recall Friend.

Unless this is a concept build. I'd take Tough for the added S/L resist, and then just take Weave.

    It crits.

Nightfall needs to be fixed. There's no way that it is properly balanced in relation to other cone attacks.

On test, I did run around with TT, NF, Torrent, Shockwave, Spin, Eviscerate... it was amusing, safe and painfully slow.

Scrappers should have been given Darkest Night just like brutes.
I'd rather of had Shadow Meld or Dark Obliteration myself.
  4. TT does more damage, activates faster, and immobilizes the enemies.

NF just does damage with a tohit debuff.

However, NF is straight Negative Damage, while TT is mostly Smashing Damage with a little Negative Damage.

    [edit]misread the cone area[edit]

Here's what gets me, and I wouldn't think that's right. But by the looks of it, only NF can crit.

Now the 5% added bonus for double damage could be a crit ontop of normal scrapper crits. If that's the case...TT will still do more damage.
  5. I'm rerolling my Sonic/EM blaster (with new concept) into a Traps/Sonic.

Which will make it my first ever /Sonic Defender.

What can I say, I love /Ice and keep hoping for /Fire.

    Anyway.

Do any of you brutes, scappers and tankers get aggravated by the fact that Cloak of Darkness makes your character not just stealthed, but GONE? Even with particles turned all the way up to 5,000 (which causes my laptop to crai teerz), my beautiful character becomes a blob of crud.

What gives? Five costume slots in a game that's at least 50% style, and one of my main defensive abilities renders me almost impossible to see on my own screen.

    Argh.
Not at all. I knew what CoD did BEFORE I made my Spines/DA.

Why get upset about something you knew was going to happen when you took the power

Recharge can be dealt with via proper slotting (I was using SOs).

I'm definitely going with this combo once we go live. It's very satisfying.
See, I found Elec Melee's damage and recharge not to be that great.

ST damage chain (with SOs) wasn't all that. And with just SOs, the AOEs didn't come up often either.

Now, when LR, TS, and JL where all ready to go, it was very nice, for AOE But again, when all attacks where slotted 2 ACC/3 DMG/1 RCH...I was always waiting on an attack to recharge.

And the single target damage wasn't "Oooo wow!" not that I was expecting it too, but I was hoping the attacks would recharge faster.

That said, I still love the set It's just in need of work imo.
  8. ...okay, so I was planning out my build for i16.

Trying to maximize Recharge & Defense set bonuses while staying in the concept (grrr...that concept part always hurts me getting the best out of stacking of recharge & defense)...

..So far, I have 32.8% Melee Defense, and 20.3% Ranged/AOE Defense with Weave and set bonuses.

It's the +RCH I'm lacking, and thus unable to pull off the better DPS vs AVs.

Then it got me thinking...maybe drop the AOE from Blaze? Or maybe, Burn could have uses for AVs.

Do AVs run from Burn like normal enemies do?

How much Defense would be enough?

I'm thinking, if I can use Blaze on alot of AVs, then it becomes more of a worry about just getting more Defense for the concept.

My plan for i16, is reroll my main as a Elec/Fire Scrapper. I decided on this for 3 reasons...1) Concept (could of went Fire/Elec, Fire/Fire, Elec/Elec or Elec/Fire) 2) I'm hoping it won't be a much used combo I know...probably a terrible reason to roll it, but hoping none the less. 3) It's become my goal to make that combo, based on concept, to something OMG UBER!

Will that last happen? Possibly not. But I'm going to try.

Never looked at the numbers on test, just played it and went by feel...

Electric Melee's single target damage feels weak stilll.

Then I looked at the numbers, Electric Melee for Scrappers does less damage than a brute at 65% Fury.

Do Criticals actually even this up? Or is ELM just set to be a weak ST set, with okay AOE?

I've seen this grouping for Darkness Mastery a few time and I am beginning to wonder if I'm somehow reading it wrong.
    • Torrent (cone knockback with a ToHitdebuff weak S/L damage...seriously S/L?!?)
    • Petrifying Gaze (ST hold)
    • Dark Blast (ST ranged neg. damage with ToHitdebuff)
    • Tenebrous Tentacles (cone immobilize with ToHitdebuff and moderate neg. damage DoT)
    • Nightfall (cone moderate neg. damage DoT with ToHitdebuff)

Why did Darkness Mastery need another cone? Another DoT cone at that? Dark Obliteration would have been a better choice, IMHO. Tar Patch or Dark Pit I would have understood being as I never believed they'd give up Darkest Night.

I still would like to see the option to skip Tier 1 and Tier 2 epics.
Agreed. SHadow Meld would of been more useful as well. The cone is lacking. :/

As for CoD. It's a stealth power, it'd obscure you costume pretty much anyways. Admittedly, if it was a bit more like Shadowfall, you'd see your costume a bit more.

Bit of a primadona attitude, yes, but there's really not much that people can do to combat that in a world where everyone wants to be the DPS.

Actually...my favorite Fire/Rad to play with, doesn't seem to need a tank to keep her standing in a 52 Boss farm.

Are you sure a tank is needed as much as you think?

Don't get me wrong, she's glad to have a tank/brute/scrapper to take the alpha and keep aggro off her, and make it even easier for her...but she can solo them on her own.

Though truthfully, her and I both find the LT maps faster and the bigger xp gain. But *shrug*...to each their own I guess.

Sitting there while everyone else does the work is leeching.

On the other hand, I SUSPECT that what they wanted to do was just show the team that the team's way wouldn't work. Since there were no more deaths after the kick, I believe the two would have found out that they were NOT as crucial as they thought they were. Either way, someone would have learned something, so I'd have wanted it to go on for another few minutes. But with the team asking for the tank to be kicked, I'd have probably gone with the team's wishes.

Off hand, it sounds to me like the tank and the fire/kin buddy are used to playing as a duo. They've developed their own strategy, don't need to communicate, and plow through everything extremely quickly with no deaths. As a result, they're probably very difficult to team with, because they expect everyone else to play just like them, can't imagine that teams can function in any other way, and have no tolerance for team deaths. I can understand where they're coming from, but I think they need to set that aside on a team.
Their no tolerance for team deaths would be the biggest problem imo.

Not that I encourage or try to have many team deaths.

But it's like when running an ITF, and people leave because the first 3 times didn't work on Romi, then the rest of the team gets it to work after they left.

Just took some time to get everything right.

That said, I still say anytime my teams haven't completed that TF (Id say I have a 99% success rate)...is because of people not being slotted even with normal SOs. :/

Personally, I wouldnt have kicked them, but then...I'm okay with the team strategy being "runamok"

This is all in my opinion so you know...

Electric Melee...it's a nice AOE set that lacks in the Single Target department. I say only nice for AOE, because it's real AOE attack is on a LONG recharge. But it does LOTS of damage when you do get to use it.

Thunderstrike is more like a heavy hitting single target attack with a little AOE damage thrown in (why it doesn't get to use regular melee IO sets, I don't know...as the added AOE is nothing more than a perk. Not a AOE in the since of Whirling Sword, that all targets get the same amount of damage done to them)

JL is a cone, not to hard to get at least 2 in the attack, imo. If not more.

Chain Induction is much like TS. Single Target attack with a form of AOE added into it. If it went back and forth like it did before, might not be to bad, but it won't jump back and forth between two targets anymore.

Do I love Electric Melee? YES! But I love flashy sets, so I'm GLAD the devs ported this set. It gives the elemental damage I've been wanting, without being tied to darkness or giving me elemental blades.

Electric Armor. Well, on my Brute, I wouldn't call it a tanker's choice. Not without serious IO set investment, and power pool picks.

The Heal for it will be nice for sure. As Aid Self was easily interrupted. Now we'll be getting a heal (if it goes through on test) that won't suffer from being interrupted.

What this will do imo, is free up the two powers from the Medicine Pool, so Electric Armor whatevers, can pick one other power to help shore up the defenses.

IMO, you don't really need KB resist IOs. Grounded will cover you enough. At least in PvE. While I do PvP, I have never PvPed with my Electric Armor (so it might very well be useful there).

I think you'll still want Tough/Weave on Electic Armor, and to try for some Defense set bonuses for Electric Armor.

This is all just going on theory from my playing an Electric/Electric Brute from lvl 1-50 on live.

I see the heal as being useful, and will help in the survival I'm sure, I just don't think it'll be as much as I would hope. :/ And therefore still see the need to IO out ELA whatevers towards survival.

Oh, and yes, Power Sink helps with survival. But it doesn't drain everything the first round. :/ Electric Melee helps with the draining, which helps with the survival, if you can stand long enough to hit the spawn twice with the PS.

The single target is nothing spectacular, because without IOs for +RCH, you're still waiting on Single Target attacks to recharge.

The AOE is great, you know, when it's ready...but LR isn't up every group. :/

The best ST DPS chain, which you go for when AV soloing (it would seem anyways) is 130 DPS...so it would lack against some resistant AVs.

Id just be happy to either have the recharge decreased so I don't wait on an atack to recharge or more damage so I hit alittle harder since I do have to wait.

I hope they change that. I don't want Tanker's Fire Epic. I want a new scrapper version of it.

More like a Brutes PPP. A blast at lvl 41. Not a hold or immobilize. I also want flashiness. Char and Ring of Fire isn't flashy.
  18. Still been trying to softcap to just S/L/E/N on a /WP build...and still have a high DPS attack chain...so far I think it's been only Fire/ that's been able to pull it off.

Of course, I'm shooting for 188 DPS So, it's all probably a waste of time...but it's what I continue to mess around with.

    My take on them...

Darkness Mastery is sucky! The graphics are just horrid! Soul Mastery redside looks alot better than the attacks Darkness Mastery gets.

Another problem with the Epics is...they don't give you want you want at lvl 41 (for some of us anyways).

Don't need a utility power...I want a ranged attack that looks cool and adds to the concept.

I want to shoot a blast of Darkness at someone. Not grab a place holder first, then grab the long range attack.

I'm not even looking for DPS greatness like Gloom. I just want "Oooo...so pretty"

I find it funny. Those who say the normal content is repetitive, I usually find to be the same people who run AE farms over and over.

Note: I'm not against AE farms or farming in general. Just saying...repetitiveness isn't what's keeping people from "official" content and a bunch of people looking for AE teams.
  21. I too fell victim to the difficulty slider. I was like oh yeah, this is what my character is.

I came into CoH at the beginning of i3 (I believe...it was the beginning of the WL event). So there I was trying to get from GC to AP. I didn't know about the tram system, so I made my way thru Perez Park. That didn't go smoothly the first few times.

So, I came in at i3. CoH however wasn't my first MMO. My first MMO was FFXI...for those of you who don't know, in FFXI you can't jump.

So there I was, running along, which allows me to run right into one of the fountains due to a little ramp on it.

However, there was no ramp out.

For 30 minutes, I'm running around in that fountain trying to find the way out, not asking anyone, because again I come from FFXI, which isn't a new player friendly MMO, when in frustration I hit the keyboard (and thus the spacebar).

"OMG! We can jump!" was all I thought. heh
