Thanks Werner. I see the problem I had. Forgot to turn off tactics (which had Guassion's in it).

Thugs though, 6-stacked leaderships on pets is just plain fun to think about. Not to mention their damage isn't exactly that far off of bots. Of course they have the suicidal pyro and I'm not to fond of the bruiser personally.

I fully intend to be tankerminding in this duo, so the bots forcefield would help a little, but its not all that hard to soft-cap two positions starting with nothing at all to work from, let alone the FFG. On the other hand, with a pair of thugs all maxed out with leaderships, just sitting back and telling the thugs to attack might work to...

    Bah. Hard to pick :P

All the talk of stacked leadership.

    Robots have stacked shields

So I would think, the best combo ??/Thermal & possibly ??/Traps.

Softcapped Defenses, Resistances, Heals, and Debuffs! The two of you would have it all

    Burn DPS...

...okay, so far, on the AVs I've gone up against (on teams), none of the AVs have ran out of the Burn patch.

    FP TF AVs
    Katie Hannon TF AV
    Sciricco AV in bank mission

All on teams, and even when the AV wasn't held/immobilized, the AV wasn't running out of the patch.

Now maybe my math is wrong...but Burn slotted with lvl 50 set of Obiliteration is 240 DPS (with no build up or firey embrace).

So my question is, is my math wrong?

And if it isn't, and you can keep Burn patch up every time it recharges, would you just add it's damage to your attack chains to figure out your DPS?

Either way, having fun with my Elec/Fire, just trying to figure out how I'm going to slot her, and what she might be capable of doing once done.
  4. Depends on the team.

Sounds like the team really didn't need the bubbles, so not a big deal.

    Hero Side PvP...

..what are some good builds hero side to use?

Is my Elec/Fire Scrapper going to work okay? Or should I be looking at different ATs/Builds?
  6. Ran the Manticore Taskforce last night. Dealt with the lvl 40's and moved on

All in all, it just took takes some teamwork and patience.
  7. I have to disagree. While I love CoH (going on 5 years now), I want more power options that fit my concepts.

I don't mind toggles, click powers or passives. I just want to beable to make a toon that fits my concept alot better.

The ability to shoot two pistols (range), adept at hand to hand (various elemental or telekinetic strikes/melee defense), and still bubble my team (buffs).

Still hoping for my assault/defense (self/buff/debuff) AT

So yeah, if you knew someone who had a mission like that you could get the weapons at level 2.
I ran some of those missions with him. Sadly, I got one mission short of getting the weapon skin activated, when some completed his mission on him. :/

Maybe try those tests with a build you haven't seen beat it?

Names mean something, and I view CoX's "unique name" system as a sort of creativity filter; if a name is taken, I haven't really taken enough time to let the concept gel in my head, and the name I'm trying for clearly is not the right one.
I meant to say, how do you know for sure?

That said. I love the name "Dark God". Tried it for my toon, got it. Made me smile.

Decided I'd make the same toon as a different AT as well. "Dark-God". Got it.

Then I wondered, and looked, "DarkGod" was taken.

Did that just make my name less unique?

Does that make the other names I have less unique? Noisemaker? Was suprised it wasn't taken when I got it when Sonic Blast/ powers were introduced.

Now I've rerolled the toon as Traps/Sonic Defender, as I like the concept for it more.

My point being, this isn't a name I got from a thesaurus. I wouldn't call it all that unique. For all I know, I could see it used in a comic tomorrow, then get genericed for it, because it is such a simplistic, comicbook sounding name.

Brand-X. I know, I'm not the first to use this one. But I got it without trying any other variations, when I snagged it (and many variations there of).

Though to the original poster, I do have a suggestion.

If he's adamant about not trying to see if the name is available on other servers, he might want to send the person with the name a tell, see if they are still using it. Or /friend the name, then keep an eye open for it, if it becomes available.

I also wonder if the name he wants to use isn't already copyrighted.

For instance, in a manga I read, there are characters named "Sword" "Lance" "Mace" ...these are also names used by people in CoH. Are they violating copyright using them or are these rare enough not to matter?

If the character were still "Blue Bunny", I'd be far less fond of her, perhaps to the point I never would have gotten her to 50.

So the impact this policy would have on me had it been implemented before, and should it be implemented in the future, is to rob me of the opportunity to come up with a name that means far more, both to me and to the character, than a generic name like "Blue Bunny".
While I'm not saying either way if I want CoH to go the way of CO.

And I admit, I understand where the OP is coming from. Even if many of the posters in this thread do not, or just don't want to.

Who's to say you wouldn't have been fond of Blue Bunny, if you did get that name?

The CO name feature also wouldn't rob you of creating a name like "Lapin Lazuli" at all. In fact, any name you did want to use, which wasn't copyrighted of course, you'd be able to.

I'd find that to be pretty damn immersion-breaking.
I can see that be immersion breaking. However, from what I saw of CO, I never once saw the same name used twice.

Not to say it didn't happen, just that I never saw it.

And even with that type of naming system, I saw names like "To Elite 4 U" o.O

"Sorry, Johnny" doesn't fit the reference. Honestly, some people...
And for others, seeing names such as...

    Blak Krozz
    371ta
    Dark Shadowy Guy
[insert name that can't isn't english and wouldn't likely be seen in a comic book here]
    Underwear Man
Underwear Girl (admitedly, I've only seen Underwear Man, and variations of said name...I have not seen an Underwear Girl)
    Underwear on the Outside Man
    ect...ect...

    is immersion breaking.

I figure Gen-13 is/was a teen rated comic. Rereading my collection of Gen13, I came along a line of Caitlin Fairchild saying "Why does this always happen to me?" in reference to her clothes always being almost totally ripped off.

So, I consider the character rated Teen.
  17. Okay...I'm lvling up my ELM/FIRE/BLAZE Scrapper. I'd like to get her ready for PvP.

What pool powers would I use? This is for Zone & Arena.

I was thinking the choices for Pool powers would likely be Super Speed, Fitness, Leadership and Concealment.

Or maybe Super Jump instead of one of the other Pool picks.

That said, I don't know what IO set bonuses to go for either.

    +RCH, +Defense, +HP?

Do I want the fighting pool?

Should I have a different build for Arena and Zone?

Clicking the link to "reference.com" and hitting 'thesaurus'.

You can do those things while sitting in the character generator. I have a stack - and I mean a stack - of dictionaries, foreign language as well as English, thesaurus, books on gods and goddesses, baby name books, hell even just turning my head to the left and seeing my CD collection can inspire a new good name that no one else has.

It really, really isn't that hard. And I suppose that lazy isn't the right word. Stubborn perhaps.

That still doesn't address what people want.

And I think you know this.

Does using a theasarus help? Yes.

I wanted the name Striptease for my WP/SS Tanker (power concept was...she got stronger the more her skin was exposed to the air).

The name was taken. Used a theasarus. She's now called Divest. I like the name, still not the one I originally had planned. Though when I thought up the concept, I figured it was taken anyways. So I wasn't worried.

Do I love the name? Why yes. I do.

But I never would of settled on a name like "I Strip For Justice" or "5triptease" or some such non-sense.

Those who suggest such names, I have to wonder, do you even read comics?

This is the reason alot of people want the one word names. Because that's usually what superhero comics are about?

And this isn't the 50/60s anymore. You won't see the use of "Hero Lass" or "Hero Lad" anymore

The use of a real name?

Yes. It's done. Off hand, I can think of "Jean Grey" or "Nick Fury" but that's really more of the exception than the rule, in superhero comics.

And just because someone else has thought of using the name, doesn't make it unoriginal. The concepts could be different.

Before there was ever an Image comics. I was writing stories, and PnP RPing about a superhero called "Backlash" ...now look. I can't even bring that character to CoH, because the name is trademarked.

And yes, to EVERYONE against the idea; I would like to PROPERLY balance things. In hindsight of posting, I don't think that a weapon should be doing 50% Cold damage, 50% Dark, etc.

I do, however, feels that it fills the thematic gap. Yes, you can easily say that it's just for people whose combat log is part of their concept, but I tend to disagree. I'm sure Thor would feel just silly if his mighty Hammer didn't clobber people and then zap 'em with lightning.

The point I'm trying to make is that being able to sort of 'tint' a powerset to your liking is the next step in customization. Would it take a ton of work? Probably, yes. I'll admit, this would be one helluva project. Would it be worth it? I can't really tell you yes or no. I'd like to see it happen, but I know not everyone shares this.
Eh, my idea was just an easy fix that allowed all set, no matter what set, get the elemental damage they may want for their concept.

Flaming Sword or Flaming Martial Art Punches/Kicks.

I'm all for anything that will give me more costumization of my character.

I still want a Assault/Defense+Buff/Debuff AT. This would really help me get the concepts I want to make.
  20. If I may suggest a different route to take this idea.

Step 1) Make those various weapon skins available for those weapons. Fire Broadsword/Katana/Dual Blades/Claws both as pure elemental type and a aura version.

Step 2) Create Common Easy to get, +Non Smashing/Lethal DAMAGE IO's.

They wouldn't be linked to any sets.

    They would give a 100% chance for +10 damage of a Non Smashing/Lethal type (Fire/Cold/Energy/Negative Energy/Toxic/Psi)

These IO's can be put into any ranged/melee attack power.

They would cause a graphical effect that is associated with the IO. Hit with the attack that has a Fire Damage IO in it, you will see flames hit the target for instance.

At only doing 10 damage, while they would be constant, the normal procs would net better DPS.

I just use 10 as a nice round number btw. Maybe 5? I'm sure some dmg powr would make out like a bandit at always +10 Damage to the attack to screw it up.

This new IO would then be useable by all ATs. This is why I say make it common, and not tied to a set. And thus all ATs can customize themselves even more.

You make it common, so you don't see them going for millions. Instead they go for a few thousand, as everyone will tend to get some sort of +DMG IO, they can trade off for the one they want.

Read a superhero comic. There just not that many (not saying there isnt any) Major healing type heroes.

Empathy is more the Iconic "group support" for MMOs. Not for Defenders though.

Besides that, I can agree with all of those.

For Defender...hmmm...Storm/Elec might just be it.

No. Fire Armor does have Immobilize Protection/Resist. It's just that it's in Burn.
