Have you seen some of the characters out there? I would say...no. Even reading the forums, you can see it.

Some people bought this game just for that, it being a game (with customization). Not because of the superhero aspect.

Which is one of the things annoying too...for me anyways...as I bought this game for the superhero aspect...not the...I want to play WoW/D&D in a different enviorment. :P You see them...the War Mace Drawf Fighters...or Dual Blade Drows...ect...ect...:P

This is what I would do.

I actually have my Claws/EA brute setup for this (not yet to lvl 35 for Talasorian Claws).

Claws works perfectly for this. Lacks the actual psy damage, but Focus and Shockwave are nice Telekinetic style attacks imo.

My problem with some sets taking more to make better is that not all of us have alot of INF to make some these sets work (ok we can make them work BETTER) And with the rate of the purple drops, I'm not sure if people would like building up the stash to make the set work. But these days it is easier to squeeze out more defense via set bonuses. You just have to plan accordingly I guess and Mids does help. I haven't played with mids enough, but I should. I should make a pre IO build and post IO build, but not purpled out builds. I don't have a purple set to my name. Just too darn expensive. And no one is trying to sponsor my toon. LOL!
You don't need purples. In fact, if all you're really worried about imo, is getting awesome defense, you don't need them at all.

Purples imo, are only good for one thing...wanting the insane DPS build. So then you need even MORE recharge.

But going just the survival route...purples aren't needed.

Now I admit, I sometimes plan for purple sets in my builds, but then I know how to substitute them with other sets (or even just Gen IOs), and just drop in the purple IO, if and when it drops for that toon.

On my DB/WP scrapper, I have 2 sets of purples planned in use, Hecatomb and Armegeddon (I believe that's the one...the PBAOE set), just for the +RCH, I need to run BF -> AV -> Repeat. Right now, I just have two of the IOs each on the build, and just go BF -> AV -> Power Slice -> Repeat. I do fine :P

I'm actually more worried about getting the last of the other sets I want (Id actually have them all now, if I wasn't going for specifically lvl 33 IOs...I have all the LotG I want, the Numina/Miracle unique...I'm actually trying to get half the Kinetic Combat set, and Numina (non unique) IOs, right now. ).
  4. Can't say I can get behind this one.

But I think I'm to settled in on what I would do to change it (and imo it does need to be changed).

    My thought for it's change...

Vigilance: Toggles don't drop/suppress when mezzed.

This would be useful both teamed and solo.

Yeah, you couldn't attack when mezed. You couldn't lay down new toggles either, if currently mezzed.

    HOWEVER!

If you already have your armor toggled on, or your toggle debuff going, and get mezzed, it's still going, and working to keep you (and your team) protected

Will some sets get more use of this inherent? Yes. After all TA doesn't have any toggle debuffs/buffs, but the defender could make use of power pool/epic pool, toggle buffs/self buffs, that won't drop.

The other day I was looking to create a new scrapper toon and I was a bit undecisive due to the nature of some power sets. I don't mean to seem like a whiner, but why are some powersets SEEM more doable than others? Like I see way more /sr /wp /inv and /SD running around than lets say a /FA or /DA. ElA is probably a running around more because it's fairly new. Or like why are more baddies more resistant to lethal and smashing while fire is one of the more less resisted attacks out there.

I could be wrong in the above mentioned statements, and I'm sorry if I am or sound totally n00bish or something. I'm just trying to get a better understanding of the choices we have.
Is CoX an even playing ground for the many different combination of toons we can create? Like are there just as many lethal resistant baddies as there are negative resistant? Do you guys get what I am saying? I mean, this wont make me stop playing CoX. I think this question kinda came about when I found my DB/Elec taking longer to chop down enemies my DM/Sr. And my DM is mostly single target.

    Ok, precautionary flame suit on.

    GO!
The reason you're going to see /WP, /SR, /INV, /Shields more often than others, is IOs.

These are the sets than can be softcapped easier than the others. Softcapped defenses is GREAT mitigation.

What I find however, is people make use of these sets, and think they can be just as great with just using SOs, and skipping some of the powers that make these sets even better.

    IE...The Fighting Pool.

Shields for example, really isn't all that, UNTILL, you get TOUGH/WEAVE and IOs going.

Ran with a lvl 50 Shield/ tanker, who kept faceplanting...wasn't IOed, didn't have Tough/Weave (or Aid Self in place of that).

Though that said, Shield Charge and AAO are just fun So, may not be all that survival wise without IOs and Tough/Weave, but oh, the pretty numbers you can put out makes up for it

This isn't to say I think everyone should min/max their toons, but they wonder why they aren't doing as good as some other similar tanker/scrapper, and begin to think the set is the sucky, that's why.

Electric Armor is new, so it's going to see some play, but I expect to see that die down, when people realize it's not all that, even with the heal. They can be IOed out to become monsters like the others, but takes alot more work to do so, and even then, they're still seen as the weakest monster compared to the others.

FA and DA lacking knockback protection doesnt help their perception either...plus they're older sets, so they lack what the newer sets do.

Now after all that is said...

    Pick a combo..you're a scrapper...you've already won.

Hmmm...my Spines/WP Scrapper seems to always have a purple glow. My namesake/main always seems to have a pink glow, and my SS/WP Brute has the no FX option.

Is the glow as much as INV or FIRE ARMOR? No. But I see it all the time, when the toggles are on.

And it was meant to be low graphics. That's what people were wanting. A low graphic set.

Personally, the glow never bothered me, even on natural concept toons, as I thought of the glow more as "just showing the toggles are activated" rather than "my hero is ACTUALLY glowing"...but some people can't get past that, and needed a no FX option.

I'm glad we got it the no FX option, don't get me wrong. Now I just decide...yes, the glow is part of the character or no it isnt.
  7. Animation wise, I love Energy Melee.

The glowy fists, the attack animation for Barrage (one of my favorite melee animations in the game...love the 1 - 2 punch) and Total Focus...love it

The fact that TF took so long to work, wasn't so bad, when it's other attacks didn't take to long.

I wish Haymaker would get changed, just because it's the same animation as Air Superiority.

    Also love the WH animation.

I found the stun of EM to be plenty in the way of mitigation as well.

I never found it to be the best set, but I loved playing it, untill the ET animation change. That's what felt like the nerf to me.

TF getting a lower mag stun, no problem.

Having two attacks that felt to take forever, and ET's new animation looking ugly to me, and watching my attacks go SWOOSH on already dead mobs, just ruined it for me.

I'd have rather seen ET's damage reduced (and kept the -life effect to it), than get that new animation. I even suggested going that route when the changes were coming.

And even before the changes, the set never screamed "PvE god" to me. Yeah, it was a great set in PvP at the time, but PvE...it wasn't all that at all. :/
  8. ...and wow...that was long. :P
  9. My first 50...Justice-Girl (Victory Server) a Claws/Regen Scrapper. She wasn't my first toon. And it took me 2 1/2 years to get a 50.

Her story is that of being a project of the Crey. Using Ms. Liberty DNA and some guys (I forget if it was mentioned in her bio) to create an advanced Paragon Protector. She escaped, due to having a hero complex over what they tried to get her to do, more so when she found out she was the daughter of Ms. Liberty. There's the bio in a nut shell.

She was my alagram of Wolverine/Captain America/Ms. Liberty.

Second was...Legendary (Victory Server) a Katana/Regen Scrapper. He was a Deadpool homage. While his backstory and outfit where different, there was a hint of it to be seen (in both bio and outfit). Big fans of Deadpool could usually spot that he was a homage, but he wasn't made to be an exact copy, so he was in no danger of being genericed (tucked in pants, black outfit with dark red stripe, large boots, banded gloves, tactical belt and chest detail, spiked colar, bone face mask with triangle face design, with white surfer style hair...sorry no pics).

He was later transfered to Virtue as Time-Shift, for RP purposes as a villain to my main (and name sake).

Joybuzzer was my first 50 villain. Elec/Elec Brute. Oh how I hated playing her. THis was before Elec Armor's buff. She only got to 50, after VEATS were introduced, as she was my closest to 50 (sitting at lvl 32 or 35), on a double xp weekend. I played her all that weekend, just to get her to 50.

She was a homage to the Joker, with her battle cry being "I'm the clown princess of mayhem"

Now my namesake/main is Brand-X (original spelling). If you look at my list of 50's, most of those are her...she showed up right after Dual Blades/Willpower was introduced (anywhere from a few days to 2 weeks after they arrived).

Unlike my previously mentioned 50's. She wasn't a homage at all. She was based on a character I came up with for a comic/PnP RPG, ALONG time ago.

But even back then she wasn't 100% conceptualized, as she came into being with amnesia. I finally made her, as DB/WP seemed to be the closest I'd ever get to what I wanted to make when I bought this game (A Dual Pistol wielding, super reflex/regeneration mix user).

Her story is long, and a few times retconned RPly (and in one case acted like it just never happened...brushed on the rug), for many reasons.

One, she was a telepath. Now in comics and PnP RPGs, being a telepath is all fine and good. Having a telepath in CoH is just sucky. I never godmodded, but get called it a few times for even having a telepath toon, well it got old. :P My SG knew I never godmodded (and told me so), and I went back to her being a telepath for awhile, but it wasn't the same...you just get tired of it :P

Her story keeps evolving and changing much like a comic book superhero, untill I get something that I want to stick.

She's my prefered toon to RP with. As I like her personality. And how she's evolved. Even if I haven't found that mythical AT/Powerset Combo, that keeps me playing past lvl 50.

Not counting the versions that didnt make it to 50 (due to RP or other reasons) DB/WP -> WP/EM (EM was my go to for Psi Melee untill they ruined the set for me) -> ILL/RAD -> Fire/WP -> DM/SR -> Cold/Ice Defender (this is the one that has been brushed under the rug as never happening) -> Night Widow -> DB/SR -> and currently back to using her original DB/WP (waiting on Dual Pistols).

Ill/Rad version was RPed as Telepathy (she'd telepathically make enemies feel sick, slower, see things, not see things...ect...basically everything ILL/RAD can do). I don't pull alot of these out anymore, mainly because she can't do such things anymore.

In a nutshell, she was created to be a living weapon. She's was original a scientifically created human, magically imbued with the soul of a kitsune, but due to a recent RP, that never happened, basically losing the magical aspect to her (and the foxgirl aspect, that was waiting for the foxtail...so she could take a fox-girl form...I refused to give her that outfit untill we got foxtails)...and is strictly based in science now, with her ability to manipulate time (which she keeps usually to seeing things in bullet time, allowing for high defense/accuracy/ability to hit through things that normally couldn't be by her...daggers cutting through armor plating for example).

She is my main for IOing purposes.

Harlequinn is my lvl 50 Crab. Probability manipulator who was a klutz...but it always seemed to work out for her. Not only was she a klutz, but she wasn't the brightest due to her mutation. She'd become smart whenever her powers were neautralized, and on occaission showed surprising insight/knowledge, but it wasn't very often. Loved to play her, but the loss of who I RPed her with the most, made me lose interrest in still playing her.

American-Girl lvl 50 MA/Shield. Half alien, half human, all american hero! She originaly started out as Void-Girl a MA/INV (homage to supergirl...never said she was kryptonian in the bio, but there were obvious references for any one passingly familiar with Superman)...they genericed the name by accident when they genericed her outfit. I still contend the outfit was different enough not to warrant it, but, then someone snatched the name from me, before I could get the name back (I was told the name and outfit violated marvel copyright), someone snatched it up. I renamed her American-Girl, just wasnt the same, untill I totally redid her when Shields arrived.

Tessa Darkart, lvl 50 Fire/Thermal. She was a blind (could "see" through magical means, when she focused) demon hunter from Romania. She was alot of fun and I always wanted a Fire/Thermal, but the concept lost alot, when the friend I rolled her up with, decided she didn't want to play her toon anymore (my toons sibling). Much like quite a few of my 50's...she got to 50 just to get her to 50, as the RP on her died out.

Princess Relena, lvl 50 Dark/Ice/Psy. A catgirl faerie princess vampire (who went around with a McDonalds straw, that was magically enhanced to be indestructible)! She was alot of fun to RP! Alot of people enjoyed seeing her in action in RP. Sadly, alot of people also didn't like to see her in action in RP. She was psychotic. She wasn't even quite a hero.

She was the type to put Outcasts through a wood chipper. Rip off the arm of civilian when he accidently felt her up, when he was pushed into her, when people on the tram ran in fear of her. Sang songs as she killed badguys (to the beat of known nursery rhymes or musicals...like "Over the Rainbow" became "Under the Bloodmoon"...tell you now, it's not easy to make up new words to songs that sound like they can go with the original).

She was mostly a joke toon (obviously, as she was a catgirl faerie princess turned into a vampire)...a catgirl faerie, who lived in a hidden faerie village called Jasmine (named after Disney's Alladin's Jasmine), away from humankind, who was intrigued by the humans. She would sneak off and watch them. When she was spotted by a vampire. Her blood being addicting and yummy to ANYONE who drank it (her blood was basically a psychadelic drug to anyone who tasted it), she was embraced. However, her parents wouldn't let her back into the magical city, so she found herself stuck in human world. Slowly becoming insane untill she reached the point inwhich she was introduced. Oh, how I loved to play her, and stab villains with her straw.

Lastly, Spoilsport, my Spines/DA (currently rerolled as a Spines/WP)...12 yearold dimensional vortex. HE's actually the creation of a SG friend, who wanted her off screen boyfriend to see the light of day. So he isn't even my original. But as his name suggests, he's a pain in the @@@. Lots of fun to pull out now and again and just start making an annoyance with.
  10. I use it often. If I have a character with no toggles to keep on all the time (like my Elec/Thermal Corr), I'll even switch it on during missions.

    RPing. Check.

As for the walk on females. Alot of it comes down to how your female toon is made with the sliders.

Yeah, the walk looks like a sexy walk most of the time, but on some builds I've seen, it looks less sexier than usual.

Though I never thought it looked like a streetwalker walk.
  11. I'd rather they just fix the set.

It did one thing good before...quick burst damage.

It's not a DPS set. It's burst damage is wasted on teams, as it's animations are so long, that enemies wind up dead before you hit them.

It just needs fix. I love it's energy glowing fists. But the new ET animation is still ugly, I never cared about the stun nerf on TF. My complaint is the new animation for ET.

I said keep the old animation and just lower the damage, but :P nope.
  12. BrandX

    Character Bios

They all have bios, but how much the bio reveals varies.

For instance, I have one...when people find out without actually RPing, that the hero is really a guy, they treat him as such. So, I still keep that part of his story out of his bio, and thus his bio is rather small, because his bio would give it away.

And even still, it's happened where people will ask others OOCly, and then treat him as such :/

Except for a little after my three day banning of one toon's bio, I've never made a toon without one.

THis is why you have Defense and Resistance, and hopefully you're stacking it with Tough/Weave.

There's also Dark Melee and green inspirations you can use with WP for burst healing.

And the one target isn't all that bad for RTTC. Sure some are going to be hard...that's the point. And if well built, that won't even be a problem.
  14. Cross server...no. I've remade my name sake into different powersets, multiple times...depending on where her story went.

BrandX, Brand-X, Brand.X, Brand - X, I may have also used BrandX. But now I just usually rename a previous version and go with BrandX or Brand-X.

Currently she's back to her original DB/WP self, and have to respec her again, this time to get rid of Fire Blast, as she can't use that anymore.

I've also have my Butterfly-Girl as two seperate ATs on the same server, as he just didn't feel right as a BS/WP...but I got him up to a pretty decent level before I said "I really need to fix this somehow, it feels off"...now he's rerolled as a Dark/Sonic, and the powers fit him much better.

I'll probably just rename the BS/WP when I come up with a concept for it.
  15. For Teleportation, I'd do the Sudden Strike suggestion.

But I'd give it a few different attack animations, that trigger randomly.

Target Enemy, activate power, teleport to the enemy and do a Storm Kick, Haymaker, Barrage...ect.

It'd be fun to get the chance at a teleport attack power on more than just Shields and ELM.

Because it gave barely any def debuff resistance? He must hate alot of the Defense Power Sets then!

Trust me, get some IOs, buff up those hit points/regen/defense, and you most likely never notice the low defense debuff resistance.

In fact, I have a SS/WP brute, with my goal of the build is to see if it can stand up to the ITF as well as my WP/EM did (before I stripped it of it's IOs).

My WP/EM would just stand there and take all the romans had and laugh.
  17. Craft it. Then give it to your Willpower Scrapper or Tanker!
  18. I really don't think the hip hop element is that prevalent in Samurai Champloo. Not enough to distract you from it in any case.

It'd be more like...a few seconds in the beginning of the episode, then...yeah...where'd the hip hop element go?

At least for me anyways. But I don't hate hip hop per se, just more of, not my favorite, so maybe I just didnt notice it enough to see how prevalent it was.

Now, which AT has a power set that allows dodging and slick defensive moves? last I checked, it wasn't blasters. ( I'm not saying they have actual dodge graphics, but the idea behind the Power)

I admit, I wanted a DP/SR scrapper. I love the concept. It's not likely to happen and I get that and am willing ot deal with it.

But it's still a cool concept and I can still dream.
    This.

Yes, you can go the blaster route and IO out the toon, but that's just it. You have to IO it out.

However, instead of giving it to scrappers, I've actualy thought of a different idea.

Combine the new Dual Pistols with Martial Arts, for an assault set. Have the pistols not disappear when using the martial art powers.

Now. Dominators just recieved a new set.

But don't end it there, because quite frankly, some of us out there don't want a Control Set.

Make a new AT. Assault/Defense. High Damage/Low Hit Points.

Epics can be team buffs/debuff powers (possibly at MM levels), and a pets...maybe some self utility powers too or a hold and immobilize...basically epic powers that really round out the toon.

Now people can have the gunfu/sr scrapper they've wanted (I know when I bought this game 5 years ago, I was wanting something akin to Dual Pistols/WP Scrapper, as WP mixes SR and Regen concept nicely imo).

But they can also have Fiery Assault/Fire Armor AT! Or Ice Assault/Fire Armor! Or Energy Assault/Invulnerability...ect...ect...ect.

Seeing as how VEATS fall into this category nicely, and how you can trick out Dominators already to have Perma Mez Protection, good defense, and a armor...this really seems like a good idea for an AT imo.

The only reason I can see not to do it, is they may fear that everyone will be playing this AT, as it does the one thing the other ATs haven't been able to do yet...give a player exactly what I said before...a nice well rounded toon.

It's what I loved about the VEATS, and would love more about the Kheldians, if they didn't feel as well...kheldians I guess. :P
  20. If they ever give back options like that, I'd hope for some leg assessories too.

A dagger on each calf, attached on the boot. Big sword on the back. And pulling the dual pistols from side holsters! Sure, I can't use the daggers and swords with the pistols, but I could imagine it!

O.O But...then I'd beable to skip the self-rez concept powers in the sets! Even more so if I can choose between different animations for it!

    RotP
    RotP: Winter Edition
Flaming Fox version (I so want for my toon)
Normal WP/Regen version (just stand up slowly)
Empath version (a bit of a hover to it)

I'd be okay with that as the power!
  22. While I've beaten the Cavern of Transendance Trial without a stealther or TPer, I admit it is one of the hardest trials/tfs in the game.

But also one of my favorites. I used to run people through the Trial every day (before merits), just because I find it fun. I still do, but now I tend to skip the Hollows as the Hollows doesn't entertain me as much anymore, but I still love the trial (so I've picked it up in Oro).

But this seems to be another problem with the Trial (much like the Hess TF...another great TF)...not many people unlock it (not to mention even if I have beaten without the Stealth/TP...it's much easier, and makes for a happier team, to have it).

I'd say set it up for 5 glowies...redesign the map to look like a pentagram...and keep the enemies as is.

I've found with the right 3 people they can handle all the mobs in there without stealth/invis...it's when it gets down to 1-2 it becomes substantially harder to get the last person safely to a new spot (if no invis/tp are there).
  23. Foxtail, much like Dispari, I'd pay 9.99 for this costume option all by itself.

I'm not even picky about it being animated. I just want it to look better than the CO one. It just looks wrong at the connection point. :/

I'd like to see some Banded/Large Glove options as a fur looking option. Currently I use the tight option...which just isn't good enough! Think "Felicia" from Dark Stalkers style.

While I personally wouldn't likely use them (99.99% sure I wouldn't), I'd love better monstorous heads options, just so I can enjoy looking at the people who do use them

And who knows, maybe if the wolf heads looked better, I would (that's the .01% chance).

Clawed gloves that are usable with Large/Banded gloves would be nice.

And for the Mutant Booster Pack Power...I know what I would like. It would be EXTREMELY limited, but it would be the perfect time for it, imo...and quite possibly upset some users (but that's going to happen no matter what)...but...

CLAWS Powerset, restylized! Hand Claws Powerset. It'll be the same exact powers we get from the current claws set, but use fingernail claws animations.

When you respec/make a new toon, it'll ask which claws you want to use. If they don't have the pack, it'll be greyed out. TA DA! Perfect powerset for the mutant pack imo.
  24. Hmmm...my suggestions... if you want to help beginners with PvP...

Get some serious posters in the PvP forums to begin with.

I see people ask serious questions trying to get into PvP, to get alot of posters giving them some sort of flak. Whether it be..."U noob" to "roll this [insert jk AT powerset combo here]".

Now, I still believe the PvP in this game can be fixed. More than fixed even, made to be great in fact, but untill that time...people who ask questions trying to get a survivable build (whether it be for team or one on one), are only going to get turned off more by the fact that when asking for help, they're not getting any.
  25. I find the leveling curve perfect as it is now.

And if it's to fast, you can always turn off the xp gain, or pact with another toon that doesn't play to slow it down to a crawl, and still not turn it off.

If I want to really speed level a toon, I could level one to 50 in no time without PLing, just by going sewer team to TF team.

I've had more than a few toons who pretty much lvled their way from lvl 35-50 with ITFs. Seeing as how I LOVE this TF. I don't find it boring at all. For others, repeating that TF over and over is boring.

Me, I love it. Lots of enemies, with difficulty usually depending on the team make up.

My average time on an ITF would be about 90mins.

Only once have I done it in a time of under 60mins, and that was a 33min one with a randoim PuG, which is how I usually do most of the content in the game. PuGs!

Yeah, likely to have 1 or 2 friends on the team as well, but the rest of the team is people we've never met.
