Complaining about graphics on a classic is like complaining about the font on a first edition book.
One of the reasons I like the original DMC. Gameplay and graphics I like, all wrapped in one game

Of course, I like CoH gamplay (generally) and graphics.

Some of us like playing those games.

Also, just because "demonizing NCSoft as an evil game killer" may not be accurate (mostly due to the extreme wording used there) it does not make the idea that CoH is an aged game not worth playing anymore, haha, true. So, the point is somewhat lost.

Just because some people don't enjoy an older game doesn't mean that those who do need to feel the same way.

And, again, this current game that we are talking about is not past its prime.
That, however, doesn't seem to be a popular way of thinking. Most gamers will look at an old game and say "It used to be fun, but now it shows it's age" rather than "YEAH! I still love playing this game!"

I always thought it'd be more interresting, if a text fight in Pocket D broke out, they got kicked out of the club, so it stuck with the lore.

It's almost like the first generation of MMOs is coming to an end, and a new one is just around the corner.

I don't think it'll be long before other "venerable titles" like EQ, DAoC and probably even WoW fall by the wayside to make way for the new boys. Once that happens all of what's happened here is likely to fall in to better perspective.
I'm not to sure it was all that great to begin with. At least NA side.

I know to many console gamers who look at computer gaming as "WTF?" Those who play facebook and cellphone games nonstop looking at, what I'll call more serious games, as "WTF?" And then those who do play computer games will look at some genres differently than others. Run around in tights as Batman or Spider-Man, oh hey, that's cool. Do it as your own creation and it's back to "WTF?" But be dressed in fantasy armor/robes (or lack there of) and it's okay.

I do think think there will be a place for PC MMOs, but I do think we're likely to see those not making a profit/not enough of one, to close down. If it's not making enough of one, they'll trim down the staff to boost profits, but less new content will come in, so players leave, lowering the profits again, untill it's just not worth the company's time and money to keep it going.

But at the same time, there is also no type of game that has MORE ego problems and flame wars.

The only exception to this rule seems to be RTS gaming on battle.net, but that's a culture of its very own.
Actually, with TERA, I found (but not totally) skill to be a bit more of a factor, with how it's combat works (you can move out of the way to dodge for instance), buuuut, gear and level still have a factor in it.

But when it's tab target and rely on RNG, like CoH does, yeah, less a skill factor.

Also, we had some of the dumbest PvP anyways. Duelers in open PvP zones crying when someone interrupted their duel proved this

Personally, I'm just comparing this to this. B&S is so silly I can't stop snickering at the shameless beefcake. I don't mind that you like that... I like a good laugh as much as the next guy. But c'mon.

(And no, from your post history I'm not expecting you to get the difference. But that doesn't mean the rest of us can't share a good laugh.)
Truthfully, if the walk looks fluid (think that's the word I'm looking for) I'm happy. Whether that be sexy or not. The walk in CO for instance, does not look fluid (again, I think that's the word I'm looking for ).

But that said, I find walk seems to be more for the RPers than the general game players, as the general game players want to get from point A to point B asap. And a lot of RPers, in my experience, lean in a certain direction.

There should be no "origins" as we know them in this game. And no power upgrade path should in any way be tied to lore. Make things clearly what they are and keep the lore open for the user to decide on. Did he get more accuracy because of a magic spell? cybernetic adjutment? mutation? alien gifted spandex? The game should not determine this by giving labels like "Insight Of The Grey"
Agreed. If a new superhero MMO ever comes out, I'd leave the origin of the character to the characters bio.

If my character is a mutant spliced with supernatural dna. Do I make that Mutant? Science? Natural? Magic? But she relied on reflexes, regeneration, and when not using weapons hand to hand. So, when she uses pistols, is that Tech?

I've heard it has a good storyline. That of course is objective.

I also see in it what people here have wanted.

    More detail? Yup.
    More character customization? Yup.
    Individual fingers? Yup.
    Moving hair? Yup.

Lacks decency? That's more of just what people want to focus on.

Or am I mistaken, and those outfits are indecent?

For all the talk of "not the usual overweight american look to characters" on the CoH forums, I never saw that many who kept put the waist slider to max to get rid of the hourglass figure in game.

Oh sure, they're was plenty who put a bit on the mass (for a bigger look), but the curves stayed.

And breast slider set to minimum? Yeah, that wasn't popular either. Which really was a fun thing, as my main was set to minimum, and being an RPer, I did love those moments she could be all early years Jubilee, look around at other members of the SG and wonder why she lacked the most common of superpowers

As for CoH's shut down, I've come to think it was because the company did decide to realign how they do things.

Right or wrong, whether I agree with it or not, I get the feeling that NCSoft wants to only keep games that are staying profitable in their area, and then porting them over to the other markets.

I think that's the company's refocusing. Hopefully, with this refocusing, they don't think they need WoW numbers. Not with so many options, players being cheap (WTF? I can't play for free?) and fickle (I love this game! Ooooo...look! A new shiney!).

That said, I hope the company starts showing more customer/employee loyalty, but I hope that of all companies, which sadly has been on a decline for a long long time now, no matter the company (and why employee loyalty has taken a dive) or industry, when it comes to big companies.

As for things learned, I've learned players can be some of the most hypocrital people around. Okay, I knew that already, but it has been really reenforced seeing the comments some players have made about other games and seeing the posts they made in the past.

wait this idea is kind of ****** when you parse it out. I can see why they dropped it.
It's good when you're the writer and it's a book (comic or not) or movie. Gameplay wise, at least in an MMO, if we had that, people would just pick which of those was the easiest path.

Then of course they'd say the character was totally different from what they picked, but they picked that class for ease of leveling.

You know, I read that Glitch posting about that shut down and how their official response over it was mostly applauded for the way they handled it and from the looks of it, they always been in touch and more intune with the customer base. I just wonder why is companies with good service and communication skills usually end up being the smallest ones, with a small customer base, although tight, yet the cold hearted corporations that have "robots" hired for PR seem to rake in millions and in some cases billions? Shouldnt people be flocking to those companies with good customer services?
Good customer service doesn't mean a better product.

While I could see them seeing a marvel superhero mmo as a serious threat and a reason to shut CoH down, the fact that there is no known Marvel MMO coming, would suggest to me it wouldn't be a factor.

Unless they consider Marvel Heroes an MMO, when really it's just Diablo 3 with Marvel skins.

Hopefully they don't go to WoW in Space though, as we havethat with TOR.

I was getting wary of new games already. Now... I have no idea what to think. What variable is there that still CAN be trusted?
Have we gotten any information on the why's of CoH closing down?

That said, it was a worry about all MMOs before this.

Anti-NCSofters say "NCSoft is bad, and shuts down games! They are the Evil!"
Non-CoXers hear "A 10 year old game most people either never heard of or stopped playing is shutting down. In other, actually important, news, ME3 is letting you pay for new clothes!"

Right or wrong, I suspect that's going on more often than not.
It's exactly what's going on. It's no different than when other MMOs close down and we here didn't care.

"Such and such game is closing" "Eh it sucked." or "Eh it was F2P." or whatever

A bit of grind isn't bad.

In my experience, no grind has players leaving. Oh! Look! I'm max level! I'm gone! /o/

Grind doesn't have to be for leveling. Could be for gear (which doesnt have to be linked to costume).

And adding Asian art style is again, just my thought on what would go for mass appeal. If you don't think there have been comic book artists who don't have an asian art style (manga) influence, you obviously don't pay attention to superhero comics, as Adam Warren has a manga influence and draws/writes superhero comics.
  22. This gives them a what? 100% Close down rate of their games? Well now we know never to play their games!

Okay, sounds like the company is totally dead.
