It's not the time between sequals that breaks it. It's the effort put into it.

Often they're making the sequal with the thought of making a quick buck.

For Rambo and Rocky Balboa, you had Stallone (whether you thought the movies were good or not) actually putting care into his projects.

You know, for anyone not familiar with 'the biz', this would sound like the most moronic statement ever made, often satirized by the 'dumb salesman' who says that they'll give their product away for free and they'll make their profit through 'volume.'

And anyone writing articles in 'the biz' and doesn't use the term 'microtransactions' maybe *is* that proverbial dumb salesman.
It worked for that other superhero MMO based on a IP.

Will it work that well for the new sci fi one as claimed? I kinda doubt it. But, I think they'll get a sizable player base in there when they all go "Oooo...it's free and I love all things Star Wars as long as I dont have to pay a monthly sub"

I'd say that's only true because players have gotten to the "I'm entitled to everything free" mindset as well as the "The game has to have everything at the start now, even though all those other MMOs never did."

Plus there's the "If I can't solo my way to max level the game sucks" mentality. Mind you, it's a MMO, so teaming should be required.

Plus, to many players want to level to max level right away.

Look at the MMOs being brought out. If it took them a few months to get to max level, they'd say it's taking to long. If they get to max level in a month, they're asking for new content.

Hell, you see it here in CoH. "Okay I beat all the new content you just released, what's next?"

Or the even pathetically funnier "I played it all in Beta. So now it's all old. What's coming next?"

Sub only MMOs can work still, but it takes planning, and it takes a hook that will get enough players in who are willing to stay and play.

Basically MMO players arent interrested in MMOs. They're interrested in a chat room they can attack things in while they play. Or at least, the ones who've gotten into MMOs. I'm sure there's players who still enjoy the teaming.

I don't know about the numbers needed to make it useful but not OP, but it would be a good way to make boxing/kick into good powers to use even if they don't compare in damage to your primary/secondary attacks.
But Tough/Weave are really the sought after powers. All that does is say "Here get a bonus for taking Tough/Weave by taking a power you had to take anyways."

Even if it's something as simple as DDR.

You're basically giving a bonus for something they had to take anyways.

The synergy they were going for with the attacks could at least give people the idea of "Hmmm...maybe I'll use the attacks"

Sadly, it would just be an idea without decent damage to back them up though.
  6. Note: I didn't go about really trying to figure out all their body sliders and heights...sooo...it's mostly about the costumes.

Ms Liberty: She's a superhero! She should look the part! Updated the spandex with a lot of leather! Should note I'd have the Tight Sleek cover the forearms as where the gloves do not (Devs! Make that an option PLEASE!) I'd also giveher Statesman's cape! I just didn't put a cape on this outfit because none of the options match Statesman's cape.

Changed up the hair! The other is just dated!

She's the leader of the group. With Statesman's passing, I think she'd take up a bit of his style while mixing it with her own.

Mynx: I don't think she needed to get to much out there. Using the Organic Armor as a leather style armor I think suits her well. Also updated the hair. It was time for a change!

Swan: I'd replace the cape with her trademark swan cape. I was going more for newer better texture pieces overall, while keeping to her "show off the skin" look she's had this whole time. To many people I think try to cover up all the females because "OMG!" *rolleyes* But she thought it was time to add some color!

Valkyrie: I wanted to keep the technology armor vibe to her costume. She's a tech hero! Also wanted to keep to her standard yellow color. I did change the color of her hair, because there's such a thing as to much yellow.

Woodsman: He seemed like a plant/earth troller or dom. So I wanted to mix it up! Firefly aura. Organic armor does a good "vine" look imo. Then added in some earth element to it.

Luminary: I wanted to put her in a transition stage. An android slowly gaining upgraded features to look more human. So, flesh face and hands. I'm thinking she's possibly advanced a bit tech wise, so the tech is kinda finding it's way through the flesh covering as well...hence the circutry pattern on the hands and organic face.

Infernal: First off, I LOVE the Sinister outfit. So wanted to make use of that! Changed up his mask, because this one just screams binder of demons to me. Throw in glowing belt and boots for that "bind the demon spirits" vibe! Also changed up his tail to organic, as it kept the demon vibe while just looking better on him than the demon tail.

I think overall, he kept that demon feel to him.

Aurora: I liked the idea of her paying homage to Psyche! So I put my spin on it. While changing up her hair style. It needed an upgrade and I think that would could fit for her.

They saw that EVERYONE in beta was just taking tough (also aid self) and ignoring the rest of the power pool. They were worried it was going to be the next "must have" power like stamina used to be, just because it was an easy pick, which is why they changed it back. I have a lot of characters that I don't take tough/weave on, but if I could get tough right off the bat that would probably change.
Which is why turning Boxing and Kick into awesome attacks equal to what someone could get in their Primary or Secondary is a good idea!

It can remain untouched, or replace a Primary/Secondary attack.

Yes it would be straight smashing damage (for some sets this really wouldn't matter), with an effect that's better if you took the other attacks in the set, but it'd be less of a "This is worthless" and more of a "This could be good if I'm willing to use it"

Would people still leave it unslotted and unused? Yup. Weapon Users for sure would. But it'd be a good option!

If they were up to that level of damage (use normal RCH/END formula and then maybe add a 10% increase to each...no idea...I'm sure some downside would have to be there), I'd likely use it on...

    Trollers
    MMs
    Fire Melee
    Dark Melee
    Energy Melee
    Super Strength
Kinetic Melee (less likely but a possibility)
Martial Arts (Depending how good it's DPS is)

Blaster not as likely. I prefere to stay at range, but if I was willing to go melee then possibly.

Corr/Defender not as likely. Range usually and when not attacking usually have buffs/debuffs to use.

Would all have a use for it? No. But a lot could have the real option to want to make heavy use of them.
  8. The more I look at the design pic of Penny the more I want all those as costume pieces!

Oh yes, better customization would of been a big plus as well. That's always a plus!
  10. I have no problem with there being enemy groups with a Kinetic user or multiple users.

Or a problem with any enemies being made with any of the carious powersets.

It seems to me that we don't want to mess with boxing and kick, because there's now synergy effects in Boxing and Kick that escalate up to the tier 5 attack, and there are people that like Boxing and Kick for various reasons. But it also seems to me that we don't have to mess with boxing and kick, because there's no reason we can't provide an alternate path to tough and weave by simply adding another power to Fighting that unlocks at 35 and acts as a prereq. This way we don't eliminate the prereq, but we don't require people to take an attack they don't need.

The question is what can we add to Fighting that is conceptually consistent, interesting enough to be useful, but not so powerful that it will be perceived as necessary? That's the idea I want to float. Assuming we add one more power to fighting to allow an alternate way to get to tough and weave, what do you all think about this power:

    Tempered Focus:

Passive: 50% Res(Hold, Sleep, Stun, Terrorize, Confuse), 15% Res(Defense), +50% runspeed (enhanceable), -50% runspeed (unenhanceable)
Fighting Synergy: Increases stun duration on Boxing, Increases Knockdown chance on Kick, and Cross Punch debuffs foe Strength(Hold, Stun, Sleep, Terrorize, Confuse, Immobilize, Endurance) by 30% for 6 seconds and has a 50% chance to debuff KB strength by 100% for 6 seconds.

    Power also grants:

Click: Mag+1(Confuse, Terrorize) for 15 seconds. 120s recharge.

The idea is to create a power that would appeal to players likely to be taking Fighting anyway, appealing enough to be interesting for players that were not thinking about it, but not so powerful that it would be a must take and force people into Fighting. So:

    1. If you are a squishy without mez protection, 50% mez resistance is interesting, but not mandatory.

    2. If you are taking Fighting to get Weave, DDR is probably interesting to you.

    3. Unless you're SR, in which case being able to periodically break Confuse and Terrorize is interesting to you.

    4. Tempered Focus has its own interesting synergy with Cross Punch: it causes Cross Punch to weaken the mez ability of anything it hits and has a chance to shut off the ability for the target to generate knockback. Which is not as interesting for melee with mez protection, but *very* interesting for a squishy wanting to mix it up in melee range. For the melee archetypes, I slipped in Endurance: the effect will also reduce the drain effects on targets it hits.

    5. The +50%run/-50%run is there to ensure the power is actually slottable for something. By default these two effects cancel each other out. But you could slot run in there and get increased run speed, since the negative buff is not enhanceable. Or you could ignore the power's slot if you don't want to run faster. And I'm inclined to allow it to be slottable with universal travel.

So is this too powerful? Too weak? Totally ridiculous? I've tried to find the line between "overpowered" and "worthless" and I hope I landed on "interesting for those that don't want Boxing or Kick." Did I get close?
I think this would just become the standard pick.

But it does make me think...

Boxing, Kick, and Cross Punch could all offer small passive bonuses when the power is selected.

    Boxing: +Slow Resist
    Kick: +DDR
Cross Punch: +50% Mez Resistance (to stack nicely with all those Mez Resist bonuses IO sets will be giving...this gives it a big jump).

The last may need to be moved up or down, no idea, but I'm thinking something really worth while here.

As someone who uses weapon sets a lot, I know. For me on most of my weapon set characters it would still be a waste of a power pick.

On some of the new power sets, like StJ, a waste.

But EM, SS, ELM, MA, DM...ect...ect These could be made into a not wasteful power.

I think some Doms could likely get use out of them as well.

Blasters, Corrs, Defenders I'm not sure about, I wouldnt think so on the Blasters, but I do think there's some MM's and Trollers who would find these powers worth using if they did good damage.

My MM didnt always stay at range (admittedly I was Dark Miasma).

Really, there is a good chance most would still skip using these abilities if they were put up to par of other melee attacks, but the option at least would be there to go "Hmmm...this is a really decent attack...and I could use it in place of X..." and then to help the devs with this "...and then fit in that power from the Sorcery Pool I was thinking of purchasing but didnt have room for all the powers..."

It stays an unslottable power for some, but a worthwhile pick for others. On my Blasters (which admittedly I don't play often), I might just make it a staple melee attack, and on my controllers it would allow for some concept options.
  15. Get rid of the faceplate, change the colors a bit and the outfit becomes awesom!

Even better would be a better looking face, but I won't ask for that to be changed.

Over all, I like Penny's outfit and wish it's pieces were available for me to use!

  17. As long as I get entertained by the movie I am okay with all of this!

With Ben Affleck directing, if the keep the script in the tone of Avengers, serious but not to serious with making it look like a comical parody of 60's superheroes, and a decent cast, the movie I think will be golden!

Even better, Affleck might be able to pull off some hidden cameos that would just be fun!

Marvel gets it's Stan Lee cameos, JLU can have it's Jersey Trilogy cameos!

"OMG! KEVEIN SMITH!" *LOL* "That's Jason right next to him!" \o/ "OH! OH! LOOK! Batman just busted up a robbery at the Quick Stop! Oh that Randal!" "Oooo...that was Matt Damon!"

Okay, I really doubt they'll do that, but would be awesome!
  18. I think GG's point was more that it wasn't a Joss project.

In his shows, even in comics he's written for, he's had freedom to kill off main/important/fan favorite characters.

Kill off Spike at the end of Buffy? Yeah! Let's do it!

"Kill" off Kitty Pride at the end of X-Men run? Yeah! Let's do it!

Kill off Wash at the end of Serenity? Yeah! Let's do it!

Killing off characters means this is serious!

With Avenger's Joss was kept under tighter control, in so much as if he did kill off any of those main Avengers, then their solo movie titles would suffer.

I've enjoyed almost everything Joss has done (okay Doll House left me unimpressed), which includes his Buffy: tVS movie (I quite enjoyed it), but he does have a tendency to kill off characters the fans don't want to see die.

In his own shows this isn't so bad. You feel for them. It's does add to the emotion.

In comics (that arent his Buffyverse) and this Marvel movie universe, it's a different story.

    I hated that too!

I was going for playing a jedi ahead of her thinking (like Luke basically) and then my dialogue ended up like that? *sigh*

Not being able to pick the race I wanted with the class I wanted untill I hit level 50 is what killed it for me.

I had the intention of making one character, no more, leveling it up and focusing on it. I didn't want to level and extra one just to get what I wanted. :/

But the pool still isn't gating it behind two copies of the same thing. It's not like it was before, where your choices were "help another player" or "help another player differently" between Aid Other and Stimulant. Right now, we have Aid Other and Injection, which IS an ally buff, but also works as an enemy debuff, as well. I am, in fact, given an option. If I want to take options that benefit me and I want Aid Self, I'm no longer forced to take a team-only power.

To my eyes, Aid Other and Stimulant were no different from Kick and Boxing - the same power twice over. Yes, their effects were different, but their mechanics were the same - stuff I do to help other people which doesn't help me. Since I don't want powers that don't help me in any way, that pool was more or less closed to me. This has changed, because now I have the choice between "a power which helps others" and "a power which helps others sometimes and me all the time." Now, I have a choice and now, I AM going to take those powers.
I go back to saying if they made Boxing and Kick reasonable attacks worth replacing one of your attacks in your Primary or Secondary, then having to take Boxing or Kick wouldn't be bad and then helpful to you.
  23. See! All the more reason to make it so the attacks are worth taking.

If a Scrapper can get a 50 DPS attack out of it instead of the under 40 DPS it currently gets now, those who take the fighting pool can at the very least decide "Okay...I can skip this attack in my Primary, that may be the better animation, and use this one instead."

It also gives a better attack to those who want a better attack than available to them, while having incentive to grab all of the fighting pool!
  24. They are changing my beloved Cyber Force, and I have no idea if it's for the better or not!

Before they were cybernetic mutants, now it seems to have lost the mutant aspect. Though, I believe at some point they turned either the cybernetics or the mutant aspect into alien interference?

Still...I have to check this out!

Wish I had the 2,500 to blow on it! I wonder if they'd let me get my own personal character in on it.
