Range is odd, as it will only effect the range you can cast them at.
Personall I have mine 1 Acc 3 Damage 2 Recharge, but only because I allways find one imp gets blatted and I need to recast em to have a full set
[/ QUOTE ]
Not at all, in some instances I could cast the Imps in the middle of a spawn, therefore avoiding any aggro. A trick Ill/ controllers use with PA, which is one of the reasons it is so popular. -
I had the slots and ended up with
2 Acc 3 Dam 1 Range......... -
So - we have two ice/ice doms on the thread, a plant/thorns and me a fire/fire. Are you all on Defiant ?

I've long suspected that the endurance problem is specifically an Ice thing. I've yet to meet an Ice/Ice that doesn't complain about it. Some others do too but not with same regularity, and again others say they're fine.
[/ QUOTE ]
Possible, Ice is the only kind i've gotten past level 4 with.
I'm hoping things will look up a bit once I hit 32 and get my pet.
[/ QUOTE ]
The Imps for me @ 32 acted a a spring board, I can only hope, for you that Jack does the same. -

Do you have any suggestion with reagrds to the secondary. We would like to hear them ??
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, your Majesty, my suggestion is to "make it better". It could be just me not liking a few of the Thorn Assault powers. For one there's some delay switching back and forth between Plant and Thorns (none of the other sets have this delay I understand). A good attack like Impale has a long wind up animation which gets annoying and the other low level ranged attacks are not that great - a cone and a PBAoE. The damage is low and endurance cost fairly high. There are two more powers in Thorn I haven't tried yet so I'm looking forward to them, maybe then I'll be OK with it and happily go back to stabbing heroes with poison.
I've tried Fire at low level and it seems much faster at dishing out damage than Thorn which is fine, fire is supposed to be like that. So perhaps there's not much wrong with the secondaries, other than the fact that I keep hearing from other people who have tried Doms they aren't impressed with the secondaries either. I think this is partly because of the higher damage and faster pace of CoV - it's not that the Dom secondary is bad compared across CoV / CoH, it's more that it feels low in comparison to other villains.
[/ QUOTE ]
lol - ok I am just intrested in what suggestions you have to improve the Dom- Your problems are specific to the type of Dominator you play. The threads above show the difficulties of an Ice/Ice Dom. As a Fire/Fire Dom the damage is fine, excellent with the imps, but the amount of aggro I generate in a team leads me to solo most of the time, also my control elements are limited. I agree with you, some-how I also feel underpowered. Like most other Dominators, I suspect. Perhaps the answer lies in increasing the overall Accuracy, our holds are limited and damage is poor - but we can always hit 'em.

Trouble is the dominators power comes in 90 second bursts, where as over time the controller has a better average. The AoE holds are an example, a controller cant stack them anymore, a dominator is lucky to get a use once every other group.
[/ QUOTE ]
True, and this is what makes the Dominator the more powerful at control - a Controller does better 'on average' but the Dominator can be always at the point of exploding into something which doubles their control power and being much more effective at a crucial moment. It seems to me this works very well.
The problem with the Dominator for me is that there's just something wrong with the secondary and I'm not even sure it's a question of upping the damage on what's already there. It could be I don't have enough experience with more of the sets other than Thorn which is pretty awkard to use and has lacklustre AoE/Cone attacks.
Some Corruptors seem to have far worse Endurance problems than Dominators so I'm not sure Endurance is the issue.

[ QUOTE ]
This applies not only at a character level but also on a class level. Because make no mistake once the Controllers hit town, our PRIMARY will seem like an acorn to their oaks.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except we have Domination, which makes our control abilities much more powerful than any Controller when activated.
Sure, we do BUT for such a limited space of time. For the vast majority of the Mish. our holds e.t.c are lackluster at best.
[ QUOTE ]
It is our SECONARY that we will need to fall back on, and the combination of control / damage that only we can offer. This in some small way may ensure our survivability.
[/ QUOTE ]
It's the Dominator's control ability that is on offer, no (other) villain gives a toss about a Dominator's damage ability.
The Dominator's do - this is their forum, read some of the previous post's.
[ QUOTE ]
It seems that the set is all about Plant/Plant - no problems there, move along and nothing to see for the rest of us ..
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you mean Plant/Thorns. Thorn assault is pretty awkard to use, it's slow and the AoE & Cone attacks are weak. It does has a couple of late strong attacks post-34. In my limited experience it's outclassed by Energy and Fire for usability & damage. Plant is interesting, but, it's out-controlled by Ice and Mind and out-damaged by Fire.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is precisely the point, Plant/Thorns (many thanks for picking me up on that) seems to be well balanced . It is almost as if the Devs came up with the idea of this combination and hashed together an archetype around it -
[ QUOTE ]
The real crunch will be when hero villain crossover is enabled. What team would take a Dominator when they could have a Controller? For Dominators to survive in the long term they have to be sgnificantly more damaging than controllers, or Darwin will get them.
I'm not that worried though, I'm reasonably confident Dominators will get some love in issue 7.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree - My only hope is that the new power pools, that incidentally will be the same for all Villainous archetypes. Will contain one set, which in some way increases our level of survivability, through self heals and self buffs. This applies not only at a character level but also on a class level. Because make no mistake once the Controllers hit town, our PRIMARY will seem like an acorn to their oaks. It is our SECONARY that we will need to fall back on, and the combination of control / damage that only we can offer. This in some small way may ensure our survivability.
With regards to general replies, the consensus seems to suggest that an increase in damage output would increase or survivability, though it would appear that that a few need endurance. Some are happy with the way Domination works, some believe it needs to be tweaked. I think this suggests to me is that there is a great deal of imbalance between the Dominators them selves. Let alone between one archetype and another. It seems that the set is all about Plant/Plant - no problems there, move along and nothing to see for the rest of us .. -
My solution: increase base damage by 12.5% (before enhancments). Reduce the damage buff from domination from +75% to +50%.
[/ QUOTE ]
Sounds like a good soloution to ONE of the Dominators problems -
[ QUOTE ]
Yup, endurance is my only major gripe as well. Aggro thing is really a question of playstyle, it can be avoided and really there's no reason why the dom should take alpha. There are brutes and MM pets for that.
I don't pvp but I believe some love would be due there.
[/ QUOTE ]
- I just about seem to do ok on the endurance front. With regards to the agro. Must be a fire thing I entered a mish with three Brutes, a Mastermind and a Corrupter BAM, I was eating dirt within 30 seconds. -
Sure the not loosing the Dom bar during a trip to the hospital concept is a little hard to swallow, but are you actually DOA, or does some flicker of your powers still run through your body ??
-
First off let me just say that I have a 40th lvl fire/fire Dom. Who in all honesty I would have given up, HAD I not liked the character concept that much. The journey was quite painful. I have the debt and damage badges to prove it. Even now fully slotted with SOs after two respecs I face plant whilst soloing. In teams of 4 or more you can guarantee at least a short trip to the hospital a couple of times during a session.
IMO In order to make the class more viable I would:
1/ Increase the HPs Most of the time I figure your up to you neck in Sh*t.
2/ Amend the Dom bar so that it doesnt decrease with inactivity or death This would help in both PvE and PvP. Hell there is nothing worse than heading to the hospital just before the magic button lights up.
3/ In the power pools (40 50) I would include a self heal, self rez, self shield. The shield and the heal are must haves.
As I have said these are my opinions, but for what it is worth make the road more worth while rather that a very painful slog. -
I will be going with 2 Acc and 2 Holds. In the slow recycling holds I may put a recharge or two. I certainly wont be putting any damage in there. Thats what your secondaries are for.
